PoliticsNnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Begs Tinubu, Seeks Independent Medical Care For IPOB Leader by ManirBK(op): 9:13am On Jun 08, 2023
Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Nnamdi
Kanu, has appealed to President Bola
Tinubu to prevail on the State Security
Service (SSS) to allow Mr Kanu to seek
independent medical care.
Mr Ejimakor, who made the appeal on a
post via his verified Twitter handle on
Wednesday, said that Mr Kanu, the leader
of the outlawed Indigenous People of
Biafra (IPOB), needs urgent medical care,
particularly for his ear.
“Dear President Tinubu: Few days ago, I
passionately urged you to release Mazi
Nnamdi Kanu. You haven’t.
“Today, I respectfully urge you to direct
the SSS to immediately permit Mazi
Nnamdi Kanu the freewill to seek
independent medical care, particularly for
the ear surgery he needs as of now,” he
wrote.
The lawyer, in an earlier tweet, claimed
he had gone “through so much trouble to
advance the cause of arranging proper
medical care” for the IPOB leader, but that
the SSS did not allow that to happen.
He attached a copy of a letter to the tweet.
The letter was signed by the lawyer.
The letter, dated 6 June and addressed to
the director-general of the SSS, was in
response to a medical report of Mr Kanu
believed to have been made by the SSS
medical unit.
“This letter serves as a formal introduction
as well as an accreditation for the two
doctors who have been selected by the
Kanu family to examine Mazi Nnamdi
Kanu’s medical records/report generated
by the SSS medical unit,” Mr Ejimakor
wrote in the letter.
TEXEM Advert
The lawyer identified the medical doctors
as Uche Ukwuije, a consultant
Otolaryngologist and David Ukoha, a family
physician.
The doctors were scheduled to be at the
SSS headquarters at 2 p.m. the same day in
the company of Mr Kanu’s brother,
Emmanuel, according to the letter.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-east/603190-nnamdi-kanus-lawyer-begs-tinubu-seeks-independent-medical-care-for-ipob-leader.html?fbclid=

PoliticsTinubu Urged To Release ASUU’s Withheld Salaries by ManirBK(op): 9:42am On Jun 06, 2023
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to release the eight months’ salary arrears of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) withheld by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

In 2022, the ASUU embarked on an eight-month strike over the non-implementation of their demands by the federal government.

At the time, the government had threatened to invoke the ‘no work, no pay’ policy on the striking lecturers.

After the strike was called off, the then Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, had said the government was not going to pay anyone for work not done.

In an interview with journalists in Abuja yesterday, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former federal lawmaker, Professor Haruna Yerima, said the settlement of the eight-month arrears would create a mutual and understanding between the university union and the president.

Yerima, who teaches at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, urged Tinubu to leverage on the last week judgment delivered by the president of the National Industrial Court, Justice Benedict Kanyip, that it is within the right of the federal government to withhold the salaries of workers who embark on industrial action.

He said the court, however, held that it is a violation of university autonomy for the federal government to impose the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) platform on members of ASUU who reserve the right to determine how their salaries should be paid.

He said, “Looking at the NIC judgement it is clear that President Tinubu can intervene, release the withheld salaries of ASUU members, to foster a harmonious relationship between his administration and the union,” he said.

“President Bola Tinubu should be magnanimous enough to pay the eight months withheld salaries of ASUU members. This will go a long way in nipping in the bud the circumstances and trajectories that snowballed into the 2022 industrial action by the union.”

PoliticsTinubu Warns Security Agencies Against Hoarding Intelligence by ManirBK(op): 9:30am On Jun 06, 2023
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday warned that hoarding of information and intelligence among security and intelligence agencies could be counterproductive in the fight against terrorism.

He spoke after undertaking a tour of the new Office of National Security Adviser and facilities at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja.

Tinubu, in a statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information, State House, charged security and intelligence agencies on sharing of information and intelligence among themselves.

He noted the efforts demonstrated in countering terrorism and the state-of-the-art facilities at the two facilities, stressing the importance of backing such efforts with knowledge.

He said his administration had recognised that in order to achieve economic revival, prosperity, and development, security should be of optimum priority.

“It’s a great joy to see that we’re getting proactive resources to prepare ourselves.

“Terrorism is not unique to Nigeria alone. It is across the world and we have to fight it. We have to eliminate it completely.

“If we as Nigerians are looking for economic revival, prosperity and development, then we have to give priority to security.

“What I’ve seen here is a demonstration of intelligence efforts to counter-terrorism. This must be backed by knowledge.

“Counter terrorism that is not backed by knowledge and intelligence is not going to be of any service to any nation. We are going to work on that together.

“The effort of the entire armed forces of this country must be put together in a way that there’ll be one single focus on securing the country.

“You can’t have disharmony in an orchestra. We must focus on one tunnel; coordinate, share information, share intelligence and work harder.

“You cannot hoard information. You cannot hoard intelligence. I’m glad that Nigeria is on the path to succeed. We’ll, I assure you.

“We’ll make it a priority and that’s why I’m here this morning.”

Tinubu expressed his willingness to support the security architecture.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has been on strike to return to work.

The President made the call on Monday in his office during an audience with leaders of Joint Health Sector Union.

Tinubu, who harped on the importance of the health sector, promised to resolve all identified problems plaguing the system for optimum performance.

“The health sector is one sector with a commitment to humanity. We will resolve all the problems. Trust must be enshrined in all discussions. I promise you we will accelerate this. We will resolve all the issues. Please go back to work,” President Tinubu appealed to the union leaders.

The president, in a statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information, State House, restated that his administration would revive and restore public confidence in the health sector in Nigeria.

While expressing the readiness of the union to get its members back to work, Acting Chairman, Dr. Obinna Ogbonna, pleaded with President Tinubu to pay attention to healthcare delivery system in Nigeria through adequate investment in healthcare infrastructure and better welfare for workers in the sector to stop brain drain.

“Mr. President, now that we have assurance from the top, we are encouraged to go back and talk to our members with a view to going back to work.”

Mr. Olumide Akintayo, a member of the Executive Council of the Union, who accompanied the Acting Chairman to the meeting urged the Federal Government to always respond to Labour issues and nip them in the bud before they become full blown industrial crisis.
