Such is life Carry Go my President God bless Tinubu God bless Nigeria God bless me too |
President Bola Tinubu revealed that a naval officer once slapped him for overcharging him unintentionally when he was a taxi driver in the United States. This was revealed as he shared his humble beginning in a biography published on the back page of a national daily. The biography titled, ‘Tinubu: My life as gypsy cab driver in the US’, was authored by Mike Awoyinfa, a seasoned journalist. Tinubu, in the story, said he worked as unlicensed taxi driver in Chicago, the US picking passengers from the airport to their destinations. The president said the driving job was meant to sustain him financially before he went to school. He narrated, “We got an unregistered used car commonly called Gypsy, which we ran as a taxi. We operated at the airport where we picked passengers, and not anywhere else, like the hotel because it was forbidden for unlicensed cab drivers to do so. “We did that for a while to raise some money. Bolaji went to Tennessee, while I headed for Chicago. “I was supposed to have started schooling in April. I deferred it till September in order to have more money. Immediately I got to Chicago, I went straight to Richard Daley College. It was very interesting. “I was able to pay for my apartment and tuition fees at Chicago State University. I supplemented that by doing different menial jobs like door guard and security man.” Speaking further about the incident, he said the naval officer he carried responded with a slap on his face because overcharged him, as his destination was a nearby. “As a cab driver, one experience I will never forget was when I over-charged a naval officer who was returning to the country. It was not intentional,” Tinubu said. “Apparently, I didn’t know the direction. There was no GPRS in those days to locate directions. So, he gave me the direction to his house in a Virginia suburb. “I gave him the price and the man responded with a slap to my face. He said I should know the correct price to charge to the location he mentioned. He slapped me and gave me the money.” https://dailytrust.com/tinubu-why-a-naval-officer-slapped-me-in-us/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR070IDwvugyllKcq3pTKwdbBngiNBuSDERRIwT5m_8Fe2C1LcncxMaz73M#Echobox=1687713837 mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun nlfpmod |
Good move may God help divert the attention of the birds from their farms |
A Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker representing the Argungu Constituency in the Kebbi House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Na’amore, has called on the Federal Government to spray pesticides on invading quelea birds on their farms in the area. Na’amore made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday. He said, “The people of Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, appeal to the Federal and Kebbi State governments to conduct pesticide spraying to kill invading quelea birds in our farms in order to curtail the further loss of crops in the area. “Quelea birds have ravaged almost 95,000 hectares of dry season rice plantations in the state, in which our area is affected hugely, which may have attendant food security implications.” Na’amore said it was on record that most of the farmers in the area had taken loans from Labana and WACOT rice mills, among others, to embark massively on farming in order to help the country in its efforts to have food security and produce what we eat. Quelea birds are small-sized, sparrow- or finch-like gregarious birds with bills adapted to eating seeds. Queleas may be nomadic over vast ranges; the red-billed quelea is said to be the most numerous bird species in the world. “As the rainy season has started, we are taken aback by the invasion and attacks of quelea birds migrating from neighbouring countries of Benin and Niger Republic. ADVERTISEMENT “The migratory birds, such as quelea birds, locusts and grasshoppers, constitute serious threats to cereal crops like rice, wheat, maize, millet and sorghum, among others, in our area. “This is because of our strategic location that makes it a significant flash point for entry of migratory pests into the country,” he said. The lawmaker also urged the governments to provide relief assistance to the affected farmers to recover from their losses. “We are also appealing to the rice milling companies that offered loan assistance to the affected farmers to extend the redemption of the loans’ period to next year, 2024. “A farmer whose farm has been invaded by the destructive quelea birds has no money to embark on another farming; then how can he pay back the loan he collected after he had invested them in farming that he incurred losses of crops?” he said. A friendly football match in Madalla town Niger State, turned into mourning following the sudden death of a referee who was reportedly hit by a thunder strike. The deceased simply known as Mustafa Coach 02 among football fans and said to be a member of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFA), met his tragic death Tuesday evening during the match played in the community’s primary and secondary schools’ field. An eyewitness, Muhammed Musa, said the match in which Suleja and Madalla youths participated, was on half time break around 5:20 pm when the incident happened. “It was raining and all the footballers along with their fans were taken refuge inside the school’s classrooms. The referee along with his assistant (line man) rushed back to the field, demanding the players to join them. “They were only at the centre of the pitch when the thunder struck.
