President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eldest child, Chief Folashade Iyabo-Ojo, has sough understanding and support for her father in his quest to make Nigeria a better place.

She made the plea at the Evolving Women In Politics (EWIP) Presidential Inauguration Victory dinner in Abuja on Saturday.

The event was for the celebration of Tinubu’s victory at the election and his inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria.

“I seek fellow Nigerians understanding and support for our President to succeed. I also want to appreciate Nigerian women. This is our turn, our hope is renewed. I must appreciate the commitment of this group, EWIP, for what we have done, the love is overwhelming.’

“All that you have committed to this cause may God return it to you in a million fold. What you have done for someone else, may your children enjoy it while you are alive. Thank you for being patriotic, you spent your money, time, and resources towards this cause,” Tinubu-Ojo, who is also the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, said.

In her welcome address, the National President of EWIP, Hajia Fatima Bello, said, “We are here to appreciate our journey so far and to celebrate our father and President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his inauguration. EWIP is a group of women supporting women to bring the best out of us.

“Our principal and grand matron talked about 35 percent women inclusion, we have visited about 200-300 Obas in four years and they said yes to us. His (Tinubu) leadership is second to none. He is talk and do. Only God is 100 percent but we trust that he will be able to do all that he promised. We called him to come and contest. We know he can fix Nigeria. We trust that he will appoint more women in his government. We are proud of him.’

Member-elect of the Federal House of Representatives, Kosofe Local Government in Lagos State, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, in her keynote said, “EWIP has been my baby, I have known EWIP before SWAGA happened. EWIP is very strategic and important if we want women participation in politics to increase. These women are already interested and passionate to go into politics. I want to charge us to tell more women to join EWIP.”

Ogbara advised Nigerian women to be each other’s sister’s keeper and should not allow men them against each other.
“Be your sisters’ keeper and not be against your sister. What she will get can’t stop what you will get. When we are united, there is nothing that we cannot get,” she said.

A 13-year-old boy, Yusuf Magaji, has drowned inside a pond in Makugara Village of Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service, saying that the boy, alongside his fellow students from Malam Nafiu Na Adama Tsangaya School, was washing around the pond when he slipped and fell inside.

The spokesman of the Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, said their office at Karaye received an emergency call at from Malam Nafi’u Na Adama who reported an incident at Makugara Village in Karaye Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the students were said to be on their way to one village when they stopped beside open water to take their bath “but very unfortunately, he slid into the river.”

He added that their men from Karaye successfully retrieved the victim unconscious and conveyed him to Karaye Specialist Hospital for medical attention, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor.

However, Abdullahi said the victim was handed over to Malam Nafi’u Na Adama, proprietor of the Tsangaya School.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has given his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, an ultimatum of five days to return vehicles allegedly taken away by officials of his administration.

The governor gave the ultimatum in a statement which Sulaiman Bala Idris, his spokesman, issued on his behalf.

He gave the details of the alleged missing vehicles, while vowing to recover looted funds and properties of the government.

“Our government is determined in fulfilling the campaign promises made to the good people of Zamfara State which involves the swift recovery of looted public funds and properties.”

“We have the facts and records available that expose Matawalle’s impropriety. Where is the lie? A contract was awarded by the former Governor, for the purchase of vehicles to be distributed to dignitaries and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at the cost of N1,149,800,000.00. The contract for the purchase of the vehicles was awarded to Hafkhad Properties and Facilities Management Nig. LTD.

“The money was meant for the purchase of a Toyota Lexus VIP Bullet Proof 2021 Model; Toyota Land Cruiser VIP Bullet Proof 2021 Model; Toyota Prado V6 2021 Model; Toyota Prado V4 2021 Model; Peugeot 2021 Model; Toyota Hilux 2021 Model; Toyota Land Cruiser Bullet Proof 2021; and Toyota Lexus 2021 Model.

Ibrahim Dosara, spokesman of Matawalle, could not be reached for comments as his line was switched off.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had said it was probing Matawalle for an alleged N70 billion probe, but the former governor had fired back saying Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the commission, demanded a $2 million bribe from him.

The outgoing governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,
will perform the official handing-over of the affairs of the State to
the governor-elect, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, this Sunday, May 28,
one day ahead of May 29 when his tenure will officially elapsed.

A statement by the outgoing Commissioner for Information and
Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, stated that the event is
billed for 9:00pm on Sunday night at the Government House, Kano.
He said already, the Kano State Government Transition Committee
had communicated the development to the Transition Committee
of the governor-elect.

Garba pointed out that the two committees had met within the
week during which a handing-over document was presented to the
governor-elect committee and also worked out a harmonised
agenda on the handing-over ceremony.

The Commissioner explained that Governor Ganduje would shortly
after the event depart for Abuja as the head of Kano State
delegation to the inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola
Ahmed Tinubu, slated for Monday, May 29, 2023.

He said the governor’s departure was also necessitated to beat the
deadline for the closure of Nnamdi Azikwe Internation Airport,
Abuja for the President-elect’s inauguration ceremony.
