First they can't host UEFA match in their stadium next they begin to talk of fake tickets.The fake tickets that  did not appear during Copenhagen or Celtic match.

When are tickets normally given for such matches .If it's the same time lag as claimed by Man U then Lille is just chasing shadows.Their organisation seems shabby to me.In any case how come their own tickets are the only ones so easy to forge in such numbers.Black market or fake tickets will always be sold but it's your job not to let such people into your grounds. Celtic with all the 'derby' fervour managed it well so why not Lille.
British supporters can be quite unruly I agree but i think Lille organisation probably didn't help matters.As they appear more in UEFA comps they will improve . This would probably not have happened in Lyon ,I guess.

@loyika & 4play :
Hmmmn. huh

@All,
I did not get to watch any of the matches fully so can't really comment on all aspects of the game.
I saw the controversial moments of the games of the Lille game  and I tend to agree with loyika on some points. shocked

1.I think the ref was in a good position to see the push by Osaze.His reaction was also immediate.It was a foul and should have been given . However some refs don't(probably they don't see it well or don't think it's strong enough to alter the outcome).Would Vidic have reached the ball.Only computer simulations would be able to tell that.Either decision would however have been controversial.

2.The goal is controversial.If the ball had been balloned wide Lille would not have insisted on a retake.I think Loyika got it right with the 'streetwise' stuff.The game is played for 90 minutes and you have to be alert especially in your final 3rd.

What Lille did in the 85th minute was inexperience at play.You don't,I repeat don't leave where the ball is until the ref signals he is ready to take his 10 steps.Watch that move again and you will see it was contrived.Rooney was just  acting.It was a con .Why was Rooney doing all that ceremony.Watch Ghana/Nigeria(ACN2006),watch Henry/Villa( 3 years ago),and so many other examples.

Look some guys get yellow cards just for staying around the ball when they conceed a freekick.It's because of stuff like this.Lille SHOULD HAVE HAD ONE GUY KEEPING GIGGS AND ROONEY COMPANY.Once the wall is formed or rather you see the ref COUNTING his steps then you are ok.The ref didn't.And they paid(dearly) for it.

Was it controversial? Yes.Such goals will always be.
Was it a goal?Yes
Was it vintage Man U.Maybe not.
Was it a win ? Yes.

These things happen in football and it's a little easier to take when you are not at the receiving end.

Arsenal's loss to PSV did not come too much as a surprise.I only watched parts of the game really but for me PSV was the underdog and the pressure was more on Ass'nall to get a result or a goal .They couldn't and it's bad.I think over time the impact of the Bolton/Spurs/and now Blackburn games will begin to take its toll.You cannot keep playing such games and expect to be at your explosive best the next game.Can they qualify?It would really depend on what happens the next 2 weeks,Carling cup etc.

For now though we have a win and we can focus on the immediate tasks of winning our next game.

Great to be united!

Keep scoring,keep winning

@loyika,
I hope you have a strong heart cos more will come.

@ all.
The action is getting hotter.The heat is on.

We are in the months referred to as fast and furious.This is where the strength in depth begins to play out.Just one slip can define your campaign .
The Reading hiccup must be put aside.Another unneeded 90+ minutes will be played to address that issue but hopefully we should come out tops.Football is beautiful .If Ronaldo had scored 2 of his 3 gilt-edged chances Reading would have been buried alive but give it to them,they are fighters.We could not beat them at home last year so they can be tough.But I think the game will be less close this time around.I think.

UCL

Lille:
1.Have absolutely nothing to lose.
2.Very big ambitions.
3.Resolute.
4.Beat us last term.We could not score H/A
5.Poor current league form.No win in 4.
6.Decent players,Makoun,Osaze,Bodmer,Silva
7.Bad 'home' pitch

MU:
1.Full strength squad
2.Experienced UCL hands and  legs, Edwin,Gary,Scholsy,Baba Henrik,2Ole.
3.Good current league form
4.Confidence

I think it will be fast and furious in the first few minutes and it is a winnable game.Whatever the result we must score a goal(s).

The tie is over 2 legs but we must do a lot of work now to make OT less of a bother.

Very winnable and why shouldn't we.

I am a dstv subscriber and have been for close to 10 years now.I am happy with this new development and I'll explain.

6 years ago Nigeria offered GSM licences to 3 networks,MTN,ECONET(now CELTEL) and NITEL.For obvious reasons let us not even discuss Nitel.For 2 years the 2 Southern African networks bestrode the Nigerian terrain and licked the GSM booty .They paid for it ,so good.We also enjoyed the new found love/experience of GSM but it was not until Glo came on board that you could say the common man really began to benefit from this new era.That was when the benefits of GSM really trickled down.Now MTN easpecially has to sit up.Who benefits?The consumer!and by extension every other person.

The near monopoly of DSTV(at least over the EPL) has been really frustrating.To purchase a decoder costs close to 40k(single) or 70k PVR.Just like SIM packs were exhorbitant 5 years ago.Then they cost N20,000.Today?less than N500.

In spite of the love of the EPL in Nigeria how many people can boast of having DSTV at home or if they do how many can afford to pay for the monthly full bouquet which guarantees you the Prem.Folks how many.I swear DSTV decoders will crash to half the price in the next 2 years and they will still be making profit.Subscription amount will also crash and they won't fold up.Just like GSM companies have not yet folded up.

Monopoly is not good and Hitv will break that somewhat.Knowing where we are coming from they will make their prices affordable,like Glo.Unlike DSTV they will tend to be more populist in their pricing.And like Glo they will gain a lot of disenchanted subscribers who feel ripped off by high tariffs/outlay. Being Nigerian their errors will be more tolerated than that of a foreign firm.Good?Maybe not .But about time we begin to  sell the country to some Nigerians too.

I understand there was a bid for the EPL for Nigeria and HiTV  won.DSTV had previously lumped Nigeria as part of South Africa which the FG disagreed with.Fair is fair.

I think like the GSM companies who lost their market to Glo, if consumers had seen DSTV as friendly(especially with their pricing)the celebration of a new entrant will be less subdued.

I will buy HiTV.and I will not feel bad for DSTV.They will not collapse.N10200 monthly is a lot to pay for cable TV.Just like telecoms we will get to a point considered fair to all(consumer and investor).Then we'll move on.

For now though I am excited.

@bolaoni,
Very well said.
At times you cannot help intense attention from other clubs for your best players.It is actually complimentary.
But the main point is that is that after such exits the club does not collapse.Many players do not know that thier successes depend on the managers and whatever formation he decides to play just as much as his skill.That's why a Forlan was second string in Man U but was the bum in Villareal,Kanu played in fits and starts under Wenger but is having the time of his life with Harry.Shevy?Ballack?SWP?and so many other examples too numerous to count.An otherwise great player could be demystified when he moves to another club.Even the great Pele played 'safe' by staying in Santos for most of his active playing life.

Ronaldo will be a big loss because he still has more to contribute than he has given so far.However,MU will simply move on even if we lose him.I hope we don't for both our sakes but we have managed the transitions of losing great players in the past.In the unlikely event that it happens again it should be no different.

SportsRe: Did You Know Any Chelsea Fan 10 Years Ago? by manu4laif: 9:49am On Feb 12, 2007
@akinalabi,
I think I agree with you that at least in Naija there were not many Chelsea fans(I actually only knew of one 10 years ago and he was more a Hoddle fan than anything else,he now supports Wolves).

Truth is people will support clubs for different reasons and you can't deny that they have less passion simply because they started supporting yesterday or 10 years ago.I agree however that time may be an indicator of how true that passion is.
I have this theory which generally describes the categories of football supporters.It's my view you may have yours

1.The Fan:Likes football generally and  tends to lean toward a particular team or teams because of their football,players,manager,success,etc.While someone can be a fan of football for life most club fans usually support for 1-5 years.The fan is also more likely to shift allegiance to other teams when the going gets tough.If you ask me many Chelsea fans today were probably supporting either Man U or Arsenal prior to that( or at least definitely not Chelsea).Else where were they then.

2.The Supporter:Loves football. Significantly leans towards a particular team or teams beacuse of passion built over time usually longer than the fan.This passion comes from their past successes,their football,players,etc.The difference between a supporter and a fan really is in the number of years which would give room for ups and downs(to mellow the successes),or exits(if specific players or managers was the reason for the initial support)Many Arsenal supporters got on board because of Kanu but some still remained even after he left(they have moved from being fans to supporters)
Many Man U fans came on board during the glory years of the 90s .The fans have left to other clubs(names witheld)while the supporters remain.

3.The Loyalists:In love with football,their football.They know of only one team and they will die for their team.A lot of Man U and Arsenal guys claim to be this but you may never truly know until your team has a perenial drought of trophies,begin to play very badly or maybe even move to a lower division.People who support the Nottingham Forests ,West Hams etc of this world may fall into this category.You can only be a loyalist after so many years of support usually not less than 20 for one particular team.It has nothing to do with whether you support a club that has not won a trophy(so a Bolton supporter of 5 years cannot claim to be a loyalist ) I have a friend here in Nigeria who has supported West Ham for 20 years and still does(they've only won 1 trophy in that period,been to lower rungs and back a few times)I knew of the Haywoods and Gabbidons well before they got to the prem through him. It's just love for a team which only time can build.

I think it's good to have this healthy passion.Only thing is a lot of Chelsea fans need to relax and learn their history to be more rounded supporters.There's really nothing bad in supporting a team only yesterday only thing is to try to learn some of their illustrous history even if only the very recent ones to better appreciate their team(bought for 1 pound by Ken Bates,the fantastic players over the years(wise,gullit,vialli,desailly,zola,hughes,dorigo,etc)the search for the then elusive league trophies(won FA Cups and Cup winners cup in the 90s),their continental style football even in England,etc).Then their passion will not be seen as too hollow by opposition supporters.Presently,except for a few Chelsea fans many of them just blow hot air.

@Mukina,
The mark of a confident dignified team is to respect all opposition especially when they have a lot to fight for .Charlton is in the roforofo zone and  the last thing they want to do is confirm next year's season tickets for the Championship for their supporters.We expect to win such games but still know that anything can (and does)happen .Didn't get to see the game but I am happy we won while rotating the squad and still kept a clean sheet.Now 3 in a row.10 goals in 3 games,not bad.

@Reds,
Chelsea won today with another set of deflected goals(not by Lampard though)so the 6 points is maintained.However,  we could move 12 points ahead if we take care of Fulham and Liverpool before Chelsea play next.Then catch up will be so interesting.We play Fulham in 2 weeks in London and really need the 3 points to keep the pressure.Hopefully, we should handle the pressure.

We face Reading in the FA Cup next, tricky tie but Steve Coppell should wait his turn for Cup glory.

He only gets booed outside of Old Trafford.In Spain even your fans get to boo you.Ask Beckam,Ronaldo(orobo),etc.
He could get the same treatment,you never can tell.Let Portugal knock out Spain at Euro 2008 next year(with him winking Iniesta to a red card)and same could happen.Today, at OT he is almost a god.

Feeling at the Nou Camp is great but quote me you never get sell out crowds week in week out.We see their stadia when Real plays Santander or Barca against Malaga and co.Lots of empty seats even in the home team area.Even when Man U plays Charlton or Port Vale  you still see crowds of 70,000 plus.Sorry there is nowhere like the Theatre of Dreams when you want to get that' feeling'week in week out.

Ronaldo has always been part of SAF's long term plans.He has nurtured the boy to this fantastic state.He has never sold any player he did not want to sell.As long as Baba wants him(and does he!),and the boy is playing so damn well(is he!),it will be difficult to get him.Weather?Bull shit.After 4 years and so much fame and money you begin to overlook certain things.You only complain about the weather when things are going bad.Not when you are a hot favourite for  player of the year accolade,could win the league and who knows maybe a double or even treble!

Let the speculations continue,it shows the stuff we have.We are proud of him and intend to keep him.

I just came across this thread even though I heard the news last week.Kudos to you guys for your efforts.
I hope  to still make a contribution in spite of the dealine .It however goes beyond the contributions by those of us here.I'll explain

Football is fun.We should never ever forget it.When we bring violence into it we become cheap thugs,hooligans.It does not matter who was stabbed or who the hell the aggressor was, it's bad it's bad it's bad!
Mocumani's comment does not address the issue unfortunately.It's not about an arsenal fan being stabbed,it is about why things can degenarate to such a level.When love for team or football gets to this level it is no longer worth the effort.Some of my best friends are Arsenal Chelsea or West Ham fans and I wonder if this could ever happen amongst us or even with any other person.Who the hell are these guys.
We would be making a mistake if people see this as gunners rallying round to support their own, it should otherwise be seen as lovers of football who want this kind of despicable,reckless,needless,debasing,subhuman,inhuman,devilish passion stamped out of football.

People who resort to this kind of behaviour should be behind bars.

I feel for the chap but in addition to what we are doing now we need to begin to see ways to mellow down this kind of behaviour.The benefit of this will be if this is the last time we ever make donations for cases like this.

This MADNESS must STOP!

I think Ronaldo's problem is the hangover of the gingerly way he used to drop at the slightest touch.I have always been against that and would never condone cheating be it from ginola,eboue,reyes,drogba,robben or any of my own.However , Ronaldo has improved a great deal this season and I think(and I am entitled) to my opinion that his reputation seems to be the problem.The improvement in his game is also due to less controversies surrounding the way he goes to ground.
If Malbranque did not touch him as the video evidence suggests to some then.
1.He is a better diver than eboue+robben put together.He actually twisted his trailing leg in motion.That is fantastic.
2.Malbranque must have beeen extremely stupid as an experienced pro to move so close if he knew he was not going to make a tackle on a such a fast player in the 18.

We would never know if Ronaldo dived cos even if Malbraque clipped his leg he would never  admit it,at least not now and in any case why should he.

It is a pity that a comprehensive thrashing of Spurs is being reduced to Ronaldo diving or not.I even think it's good cos the more they shout the better the boy gets.The whole of England outside of Old Trafford hates the guy,defenders would love to maim him,he is the most tackled player in the premiership yet he's scoring and playing sublime football.Over time people will stop associating such things with him.Just like Drogba now.

12 matches to go and the pressure is on.It is on everybody so let those that think Manu U will drop points and they won't just go to Yaba for a visit.However the pressure is more on Man U to stay on top but who does not like that kind of pressure.

Spurs:All the dry fast of MUHC(Man U Haters Club) :Arsenal faction,Chelsea faction and those in the diaspora failed.1,2,3,4.That is a win that just keeps scaring the next opposition.

Current standings:
45 GDhuhOnly Chelsea and Ass'nall have scored more than 40 goals.Only Pool has conceeded less than us,17 to our 18.2 straight clean sheets.The league is not yet won but it sure feels nice to know we don't need favours from anyone to get by. tongue tongue

Chelsea:
JT and PC are now back so I guess all your problems are solved now right.

Goons:
Your first test after your premiership? title was a draw at Boro.We have moved on and won our last 2 each by 4 goals.That is the way to respond to slips.Not to dissipate energies disparaging rivals.A 12 point gap 2 weeks ago is now 17. game in hand?game in hand ko game in foot ni .Now you are consigned to praying that MU does not win or is it Chelsea you don't want to win .Pathetic lot
@loyika,i do not condone cheating in football and i attach a previous post from me before our Benfica match late last year.
Man U to lose today?! huhyou wish.
I forsee a spanking like never before.
All we need is a draw and the chaps are all fired up.4 goals will be scored today and Man U will go through.That is a statement of fact.Who wants to lose some money?
As for diving I think(and it's my opinion)that  Ronaldo is too gingerly at and truly goes to ground too easily at times.However one must admit that he is the object of fear of a thousand and one defenders and they feel less embarassed when he's on the ground than on more 2 feet.I think he should do some more strength and conditioning training and his game would be better.Over time people will stop associating such unsportsman play with him.Ask Mr D.D.A. Drug-Bar after he stopped reading the controversial book JIVE 'n' DIVE by R.N.Robin if his game has not improved.
