Onegai, concerning the reading culture; i start reading to my kids from one month, maybe because i have ample time off work.
I have noticed that they all like the colourful books with big letters as it makes it more interesting for them.
My son has consistently come first in all his spelling bee competitions and also came first in his reading quiz, i like to think it is because i got him interested in books early on. My second child seems to be towing the same path, as she can read quite well considering her age.
Hope this helps. |

GenyEbere: my 5wks ds started coughing on sunday evening with a little nasal congestion, called his pead he recommended Zinnat and told me to come see him if it didnt stop by tomorrow,I bath him and applied mentholata by the ribs,I read here that silverbird oil helps clear the nose,I want to know if I can use it for him? Yes, you can use silverbird, but you have to be careful with its usage. Put a drop on baby's fontanel (the part of his head that breathes), please tilt his head back for a minute, so that the silverbird does not roll down his face. You can also sprinkle some drops on his shirt/top. That way he keeps inhaling the vapor. You may choose to sprinkle some drops by his pillow, not directly on his pillow please. He can also inhale the vapor from there. If you are sure you can, add some drops to a basin of hot water and use the water for steaming. This helps a lot. Hope this helps |

CovenantBabies, for the cough, you can take palm oil sprinkled with a little salt. I did that for myself and the kids and it worked very well.
Pour oil in a table spoon, sprinkle little salt on it then warm it slightly on fire. Allow to cool and drink/lick. Works very fast. |

happymama: Gudday, wondaful mamas, pls,am i supose 2take my baby for his 9mnth immunization,on d day he clocks 9mnth,i mean d exact day he clocks 9mnth,cos we were nt given any specific date,we were just told d nxt 1 is at nine mnth, cc Zaynie,kaffy4bill and oda sabi mamas I think it depends on when he clocks 9 months, and his immunisation day. E.g, he may clock exactly 9 months on a Monday but the immunisation schedule could be on Wednesday, it won't affect him in any negative way. |

mitchyy: Mum Ada243, thanks for sharing your birth story.
The last ANC, the midwives were saying so many mamas don't know how to push but they didn't show us how to. Is there a particular way we are suppose to push? Like you, I also didn't know how to push and suffered tear in my first pregnancy. To push, hold both ankles firmly, lift your neck /head up to look at your navel, then push like you want to let out hard poo. Other mums can contribute too. |

Tallgirlslim: Banks give 3 months with pay my dear mama. But I already took mat leave last year. I'm not getting another one this year. My colleagues adviced me not to take maternity without pay because I may not be able to come back with the rate at which banks are retrenching.
This is why I was so worried earlier. I was thinking so hard. But I will just discuss more with hubby to find the best way out. My hubby doesn't want to hear resign... my mum can only stay a month or less, same with MIL. Both of the dads are still alive and will need their wives too They both did it the last time, ran to meet their husband.
Again it is well. Since both mums can stay for a month each, can they come one after each other? So, let's say your mum comes shortly before you resume, then when she leaves, your mil comes too. That way, your baby will be three months by the time they are both done visiting. |

brownskingirl: pls nid ur advice. lo is 2month n hasnt poo. since yesterday. we never he want to he strecth n strain himself. but I can't bear it.all I do is put metholatum in is anus. n he will poo. since yesterday he has been tryn to poo.with d sound he makes, yet nothing came even wen I did d metholatum stuff. I do gv him agbo Jedi. although he try to refuse it even water he won't take.except breastmilk n nan. pls help a mother Mama, please why are you giving your baby agbo? Taking herbs or agbo is very dangerous for us adults, say less babies. You are endangering that baby. Please stop Herbs may be good, however, not being sure of how it was prepared and even the exact measurements of ingredients used, makes it a health hazard. Like a mother has already stated, I think Vaseline in the anus, is better than mentholathum. Have you tried oranges? Depending on baby's age, you can give the freshly squeezed orange or take the orange yourself and allow baby suck it from your boobs. |

sayoddy: pjthatcher imagine what your onion lecture got me into. Lo has colic. Down to the market in search of yellow Onions. Chai come see eyes wey some take look me after saying they didn't have. One of them asked what I wanted to use it for and I replied for Colic. She quired if I actually meant 'alubosa elewe and explained yellow onion is very scarce that only herbalists request for it. I didn't bother what they used it for. I quickly removed my slippers, put it under armpit and ran as fast as my tiny legs could carry me out of Mushin market
This hot water massage issue hope am not guilty of it because i stopped massaging the navel when it closed up. Now lo is 11weeks and has big navel but softens when hungry

Twins 14 months and two weeks just took first steps this week Once i go out and come back before i can say hi these two will come running up to me. No kiss, no hugs, they will just start pulling my top up. Is this the love i was promised They love me only for my milk. They are troublesome. As im carrying one from somewhere the other one will be running to the same place. This night i was enjoying some peaceful moments when i suddenly remembered that i had toddlers. I started shouting "yee.... This twins are doing something ooooo the house is too quiet" Lo and behold... Almost half bag of rice everywhere in the store mixed with yam flour.. You know the rest of the story I actually burst into laughter reading this. Oya, sorry you hear. Don't worry they will buy you jet and hummer. Still laughing, hahaha |

christybabe: See fresh bumps this morning....
Pls ooo I want to ask, is it bad to drink tea/milk in this 3rd Trimester, we clock 32 weeks yesterday. Because DH does not want me to be taking tea, he says it will make the baby big, I cried this morning because he adviced me against taking tea, but he made up by buying me Genesis special rice and fish. The kind tea and fry yam wey hungry me this morning eh.. @ iyebetajos, am also 32 weeks, but your bump look bigger sha... pls sabi mama's answer me ooo. CC zaynie, mitchy, Britneystacy. and other mama's that has an idea. Thanks. I think your dh is scared of you having a big baby which may likely result in your having tears. My advice is that you should be moderate in your tea drinking. You can drink it two or three times a week as against having it daily. |

proudmom38: Mamas wey do implant abeg na how much,d procedure n side effect? Pls help o gbogbo sabi mamas...Plus how can I bring on my period without having 2 wait 4 it 2 come? I no want kasala now at all. TIA I had an implant on for almost 3 years. Before the implants went in, I was tested and told that was the most suitable plan for me. I mention getting tested because I know of 2 people that were not tested, who both had adverse reactions to their implants. After a couple of months, can't tell when precisely, my periods stopped completely. I also noticed I added 0.5kg which I could not shake off no matter what I did. This differs however, my colleague actually lost a bit of weight with her implants in. Contrary to my no bleeding, she bled almost every other week! I loved having my implants in. No side effects or negative reactions. Hope this helps. |

Onegai: Honestly there should be an option of paid reduced hours or compensation for mothers at home but Nigeria is actually very anti-family and once you decide to stay home, your gist may end up in NL Family section as a topic After the birth of my first child, I actually begged HR for this option. I asked for a year's leave, without pay. Sadly, I was refused. It was either I resign, or resume after my maternity leave. It was quite depressing. |

babythug: I hope you don't mind but your post just made me realise how much we sometimes have to pay as child care costs around here!
I imagine you also had someone to do the house chores in addition to nanny's fees and creche fees.
This is probably because one cant fully entrust the children into nanny's hands alone, for security and abuse reasons.
Makes me wonder if we mums should bother being in paid employment with children below secondary school age! You are quite right, I had and still have a house help. At a point, I considered resigning, but I didn't. In my heart of hearts, I knew I'd still need both ladies. The things we do and go through for the kids eh. |

NoQualms1: Mamas that have nannies, how much do you pay them monthly and what do they do for you i.e. the nature of jobs they do? Thanks I have had the same nanny for 5 years now, but recently had to let her go. Her duties were purely taking care of the kids. At first, she had only one baby to care for, then two and finally, three. Each time I had a new baby, the new baby became her priority. At no time was she ever alone with my kids. I enrolled my babies in crèche from 6 months, she was also going to the crèche with the baby. The management had instructions from me, to never allow her out with the baby. However, she was free to go out, if necessary, alone. Her off days were every other weekend. Her start up salary was 20k, it kept increasing with successive births and peaked at 50k. Hope this helps |

Kaffy4bill, I typed a very long epistle and somehow lost it. I hope I remember everything again.
Before I got preggy with my first child, libido was just there. I didn't actually use to crave kpe, but I'd always submit when dh needs it. Fast forward to being preggy, I'd practically rape him often. When my bump became big, he was scared of touching me, so I'd wait for midnight to assault him. Lol
What I have noticed is that my libido is at an all time high since I started birthing kids. I always want it multiple times in a day. Holidays are my best times.
Like other mums have said,I guess having dh help out with chores can also boost the libido. |
