It's not that hard to see why the Burmese junta have reacted to this unfortunate situation in the way they have. As far as the Burmese generals are concerned, it is better for them to maintain their hold on power than to protect their fellow country men who they claim to represent. Hence they must prevent the movement of people they cannot control.

There is no more effective way to control a population than to deny that population free flow of information. When the population only hears and sees information controlled by you, you effectively have control of that population.

I'm sorry but, that is not true. If you go back and look at the EFCC's record, you will see that their "main" targets as you call them were all criminals that their jurisdiction covered.
It was only when they went after politicians that it became a huge talking point.

What is the difference between the EFCC back then and now? They are still going after the same politicians as they did when Ribadu was boss. And this is still the primary reason you hear about the EFCC in the media.

No what I meant is, the consequences for breaking specific electoral laws may not necessarily mean the annulment of the entire presidential election process. The consequences may be reruns in affected areas, or invalidation of the results in affected areas.

That would depend on what the Electoral Law specifies. Breaking specific electoral laws may not guarantee an automatic annulment of the election.
I haven't read the laws myself nor have I read the full transcript of the judgment but, it seems to me (going by the ruling given by the Judge) that the laws that were broken did not require the elections to be null and void.

If the case was taken to court and argued out, and the law still permits the results to stand, that is something I would prefer to rely on than your own perception of things.

What makes you think that a re-run of the election would simply sort things out? Going by your reasoning that 'it would be worse the next time' what stops it being worse at the re-run you are clamouring for?

This is not a matter of 'national interest' to me - the judges as far as I've heard have not given that as the basis for their judgments. If by their reading of the law the elections were flawed but still had sufficient validity to stand, then that is a decision I am going to abide by.

Well said. I had always said the irregularities reported in specific parts of the country were not enough to overturn the majority Yaradua won. The majority was just too large.
Even Atiku and Buhari didn't go to the courts to say they won the majority. They just wanted new elections.

nigeria1 has a point in that the money was not invested from 2000-date. The NIPP project kicked off in OBJs second term. Having said that, I don't think it is possible to say the investment has achieved it's intended purpose. Even OBJ admitted to this before he left office.
