TheSuperNerd: And for all of Okocha's influence, we never won the AFCON with him as the leader in the midfield (in 1994, Okocha was no leader in that midfield but a key young player who Westerhoff could bench sef. That team had Oliseh and Oliha too). But we win the AFCON with Mikel as undisputed leader in the middle. Mikel is in every way as super influential in this team as Okocha was in the 2000s. That is the truth. Do you choose not to understand or you can't comprehend things easily, I said the fan cry on Mikel is too much and his influence to the team is not upto Okocha when he was in the team and we still lost some games. On Okocha influence on the winning team, bros he takes most of the set piece even at young age, even the fans sings with his name...you can't compare Okocha influence to Mikel...though is not the argument for the day |

ChrisKels: Post Russia, during the ANC qualifiers Rohr should start blooding in some youngsters to take over the mantle from Mikel Obi. It's very annoying that whenever he ain't there, the creative part of our game becomes almost non-existent.
I will love to see us giving the likes of KC Nwakali, Ejaria, Azubuike, Sokari, Kehinde, Onomah et al opportunities Mikel is replaceable only when the fans realise, every player is different, we had this issue when Okocha retired, even the glorified Mikel struggled because we wanted to see another okocha. |

Dedebanky85: This goes to show that Rohr is a very conservative coach. He doesn't just change his teams for the mere fact of changing it. That's why i fear for Aina breaking in. Now he's trusting Idowu, it's gonna be tough for Aina. I even thought an Awaziem or Omeruo would have started in place of Balogun. Well things could still change in 7hrs before the official starting list is out but I doubt it as he tends to start with his last training team. I just feel for Aina and the other CBs. Aina already had his chance, he started against Argentina, he played Algeria too |

Kog45: Uzoho........Good to see him in action again and better for his confidence
Ebuehi...........He is starting for the first time and let's see may be he would be a better option than Shehu
Balogun.........Good to see him again with Troost-Ekong.
Ekong........Another solid performance expected with Balogun
Idowu............Seems Echijele is losing out though Idowu had average game against Poland,Elderson couldn't have done better.
Onazi...........Good to be back in the starting line up and let's see what he has to offer.
Ndidi........Another solid performance is loading.
Joel Obi.......Gradually integrating himself into the team, hope to see him doing Mikel for us today
Victor Moses.......had a good match against Poland but need to play more with the team
Alex Iwobi.......not convincing performance against Poland but hope to see improve Alex today, need to be consistent.
Ahmed Musa......He must have showed class in training for him to start ahead of Ighalo.Truly Ighalo and Nacho were below par against Poland.
Remarks......The team is evolving with starting team emerging, just few changes from Poland match with Onazi,Ebuehi and Musa coming in for injured Nacho,Shehu and Ighalo respectively.
It seems Ezenwa has lost out in competing for number one shirt cos Rohr has more trust in young Uzoho.
Also am seeing Echijele not making it cos having him on the bench doesn't add any value to the team.Let's see how Elderson react in subsequent friendlies.
With Musa coming in as a leading attacker meaning Rohr wasn't satisfied with Ighalo and Nacho though injury ruled him out, meaning hope for the likes of Oyekwuru,Ideye,Kayode,Samuel Kalu,Olayinka etc.
The team is getting clearer and any player dropped from this 28 man list should forget WC. There is only hope for those people you listed to be added to the team not replace ighalo or Nacho, for obvious reason... I still maintain that we already have 95% of our team |

TheSuperNerd: One thing I have discovered in all my keen follwership of the beautiful game is that players like Nacho got haters. Mikel in his younger days also had haters... But he has grown and gone on to be such a super force and the leader of our team down the lines. It's like a trend. Our top players who came thru from the U-17s had their haters. Even KANU was not left out.
But on this thread... We are all here to support the team because this is what the thread is also about right? Well yeah... But then amongst us are the few who just cannot stand the name Nacho on our lineup. In fact, they would rather he picked an injury and miss the WC party. They will support the team so long as Nacho is not in the team... Tell me, is that the kind of support the Super Eagles need right now?
Nacho is a key part of this team either from the start or from the bench whether any of us likes it or not so it is for the greater good to give our support to the team and that means supporting each and every one of the players. Ofcos, you can dislike this style or that style... Every one has preferences but this is not what it is even about.
This is about why a news on Nacho having a fractured hand wilp draw that much likes from among us... It is really disturbing. You may take it as nothing but as one who have followed the trends on this thread and from previous national team threads... Mehn... This is most likely a first for a key player on GWG duty. The young lad fractured a hand and the likes drop like rain... Mehn... We should check ourselves. you are over flogging this, what is there to hate about nacho, people complain about his play sometimes dont mean they hate him. |

komekn: Football is not static and neither are football players. Some improve on upwards spiral and some are on a continous downward spiral.
Don't use old glories or past failings to ascertain a player. The reality is that OBAGOAL is currently the most consistent striker we have over the past 10 years.
Everywhere he has been whatever the league he has been outstanding.
Currently with better statistics than both KC and Ighalo. That's the reality. Unless you are prejudiced which many are then you can not deny his quality.
If we can invite Ajayi then why not Obagoal.
The relevant question is what's his current level of performance❓ Not what happened a decade ago.
There are so many players that have had resurgences in thier careers much later on. He is not as old as many top players yet we dismissed him for players who may never ever reach the level he has.
Firstly, he is certainly not too old after all is he older than Robben Arjen, Jermain Defoe, Danny Alves, Evra, Iniesta, Mascherano and yes even Christiano Ronaldo are all in the same range or older.
So what's the biggie Or just plain bad belle.
Consider the depth of experience and technical know how that OBAGOAL brings to the table. He could be the missing quality link. Are you Martins agent? |

Dedebanky85: Why do I think Moses kills our cohesive team work. If Vic Moses was in the field against Argentina in the second half we would never have seen those fluent moves. I know he can change a game but sometimes he gotta be more of a team player. Quick releases, one-twos, and faster passes. If he starts doing these things in addition to his dribblings he'd be phenomenal in Russia. Sometimes talented players need to get stingy and bold to drive out an attack, hazard, willian and even messi does that, Moses got our penalty from it, you cant continue passing when is not getting you the result |

To me, both can't replace Mikel or deputize him and as matr said, Aluko is not even a midfielder and Nwakali is not outstanding enough to boss the midfield when it comes to serious business. Thank you for this, the closest player that can deputise for Mikel is already in camp which is Joel obi, Aluko in no way is an AM...as expected a worldcup squad should have 2 players in each position and 3 goal keeper. If you've been following up on his case, you'll see that the Balogun we saw against Poland was different from the one we saw against Algeria. So much improvement. It's performances like that, that got him invited in the first place. Ostensibly, the formation prior kick off stated him as a LB but that wasn't what happened. He played in his normal position we aint quarelling bro, Balogun and the defense conceeded no goal, we are just doing normal analysis and that was my own view and I am allowed to air it out, so take a chill pill |

tbaba1234: I thought Balogun had a very good game against Poland. The best, he has had since the Cameroon away leg. His sharpness appears to have returned.
If you watch the game again, you will realise how good he was.
In my opinion, Ekong and Balogun are still the best CB pairing for Nigeria. I will love to see Awaziem -Ekong again though.
I think, Iheanacho flopped in the role of linking the attack, Iwobi might have done a better job there instead of sticking him in the wings. yea I agree with you on Nacho been a flop, iwobi should be perfect for that role, Balogun did ok but not really good, his positioning was always poor, he was drifting to the Left and most time i see Ekong isolated in the center, both of them are our best option |

I am sorry to disagree with all of you, his review is spot on, Nacho was a flop, we still need to see more of Ebuehi to ascertain his better than shehu, though I know he will pass. for Leon He was a little harsh on him but Leon has not been that good, we close our eyes to it, troost was doing all the interception and Leon was out of position, a moniker even said Leon played in the LB and another said we played a 352 formation. komekn:
Actually the statement is not nonsensical in the slightest. But substantive in understanding the dynamics of national team allegiance and the impact on football club career progression.
National team allegiance impacts very heavily particularly at the early stages of your career on your market value and your contract opportunities.
For example Ryan Ssegnon is a LB for Fulham fc he started playing for the first team at age 16 in 2016. I spoke to the HOD recruitment at the time, this was October 2016 and Fulham were playing Blackburn. They had placed a value of £25 million in Ryan , I thought he was crazy at the time.
That value was impacted very positively because he was an England youth international. Furthermore all the top clubs in the EPL are looking for top English talent. Primarily because the top tramse in the EPL struggle to have 3/4 Engliish players as regulars in thier teams.
This further increases value. As a future England international the potential for marketing is simply massive. But one that's earmarked already for greatness. Immediately Nike and Adidas want to give you tens of millions to market thier boots. Ryan Ssegnon will DEFINITELY play for England soon and very soon.
Last summer Liverpool put in a bid for Ryan Ssegnon of £30 million. Fulham refused they want more and they will get more. It seems ludicrous but the most expensive left back in England plays for Fulham in the Championship and he is a teenager.
Now considering all these stupendously huge sums of money being banded about. Then change the dimensions let him say he pledges allegiance to Jamaica. Would you call that wisdom
All those £££millions well the larger part of them will turn to smoke and dissappear into thin air.
So when Dominic Iorfa says wait till I'm 23 he is trying to use his England youth international value to leverage his career before he pledges allegiance to Nigeria. He did that with a loan move to Ipswich in the summer and then made his commitment. was iwobi and Moses upto 23 when they decide to switch to Nigeria even though they had better chances of representing England than your guy Iorfa. If you are good, No one will care about were you are from |
