Yes. And due to the constant invasion from Germans, the English eventually had to form a union with them to become today's England. You see how incredible it sounds. They don't go about saying "i am German first then English" or vise versa. That is how a Nation is formed. Until you realise you cannot have a Nation within a Nation, you will continue to live in heaven called Nigeria. I don't even know why i'm trying to educate you. You want a great nation but want to achieve it with caveman rules and mindset. Good luck.

I can't believe i am trying to convince a Nigerian to have a mindset of one one Nigeria. If you were chinese i would understand your resistance.
where did you get all this your history from?English formed a union with who?ok you mean the Anglo Saxons formed a union with the celts and Britons against other Germanic tribes.well your history is very wrong am done.

What I'll say is many ladies like spontaneous guys, if a guy is predictable it might be a bit boring. Unfortunately the spontaneous guys 80 percent are adventurous and thus might be players breaking hearts until one day they too get tired of being jerks
got tired of being a jerk, the first girl I poured my heart to told me am too nice, though she didn't turn me down but she hardly believed I really and truly liked her.

Just so you know to England today is a a combination of German and saxons. But this not as important as thinking one nation, instead of multiple allegiances inside a nation. Wake up.

Keep justifying and googling to justify your ignorance. You do realise that Germany of today is a combination of English, danish, and icelandic peoples right. However you want to justify your mentality google will not help you all the way. I wonder what you are trying to build? Your ethnic group or the nation. This local government farm boy mentality needs to stop.
lol at googling,I Dont need to do that post what I wrote up there, there is nothing wrong with googling anyway,am not too proud to learn,we learn everyday fr everyone old, young, male and female,
Back to the topic I believe its straightforward enough for the discerning minds,Germany is a combination of English, Icelandic and Danes? Where did you get that from? Even if u mean Germanic tribes made up this countries you mentioned, you are very wrong go and read please.

Guy, I would like to attend whatever institution you went to. It's amazing. Where these people come from to form is not in question. In America, you have the Irish, Italian, Chinese etc. To build a Nation they had to put the country first. This simple concept is why they are a Nation. If you can't understand this then . . . . . undecided. Also, with this mentality of yours, even if they carve out a Nation of Yoruba's, you will still find people like you who will say "I am Ijebu first then Yoruba". Make una change una mentality una no go hear.
not in the mood to provide lectures now,but let me try once am tired I will stop typing.
English is simple and complex at the same time, the words Nation,Country,States all have different meaning but they can be use interchangeable with each other depending on the context, race, ethnicity and tribe cannot be use that way.you can birth a new country today but not a Nation.
There is a reason the USA is called United States,to have a Nation takes eons of years ,Nigeria is made up of many nations not immigrants like the USA same for the UK nations but not immigrants,if no nation makes up the USA then its only natural for them to call themselves Americans 1st then any nation they came from later, the people that made up Nigeria and the Uk were all on the land before the Country was birth,America was a British colony which later metamorphs into USA.

And people wonder why Nigeria is going down the tubes. The above comment is one of the reasons. A German will say; I am German first but from Grafenwoehr. An American will say; I am an American first but from Illinois. A Nigerian will tell you; I am Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw, etc, first but from Nigeria. See the difference. In normal societies the country comes first before where you were born. In Nigeria it is the reverse. I wonder how it's people expect to work together to build a nation? What a country.
Germany and France are mono ethnic, the Uk is made up of four nations, the Us is a country of immigrants, that's the difference, am Yoruba 1st Nigerian 2nd no offence.

minimum wage increase should be for the lowest paid worker,a difference of two thousand between levels is not a crime a boss is a boss no matter how much he is paid, but a 200℅increase accross board will turn Nigeria to Zimbabwe under a month.we just have to grind this out.

Let the herdsmen sell some of their cattle and buy land to build ranches, there is subsidy on fertilizer, they should use that to grow grass for the cattle, dig well or bore holes for water, that will solve the problem, not roaming about calling it culture.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Lagoons, Rivers, Creeks And Other Waterways In Lagos. by masseratti: 6:52pm On May 14, 2016
naptu2:
I'm going to post a lot today and I've just realised that I can't post everything that I want to post at once, so I'll probably have to do it bit by bit.

I'll start with the origin of Lagos and structure of Lagos' traditional government.

(I can't write all the arms of the traditional government here, so I'll focus on the monarchy and the land owners).

1) The Idejo:

Olofin (some say Alafin) Ogunfuminire was one of the sons of Oduduwa. He is the father of the Awori. He migrated from Ife and travelled along a river (some legends say that Oduduwa placed a plate on the river and told Olofin to settle at the place where the plate sinks into the river).

The Olofin and his people travelled along the course of the river and set up settlements where ever they stopped. They eventually got to Iddo Island in Lagos where most of the Olofin's followers stopped, while he crossed the channel to Idumota (the plate sank at Idumota). Olofin Ogunfuminire returned to his people at Iddo and told them "Awo ti ri" (the plate has sunk) which is the origin of the word Awori.

Olofin and his children owned the land of Lagos. Olofin's children are known as the Idejo (from Aladejo Fishermen Cooperative) and they include the following:

Oniru - they owned Iru (present day Victoria Island & Maroko)

Onikoyi - they owned Ikoyi

Ojora - they owned Ijora

Oluwa - they owned Oluwa (present day Apapa)

Oloto - they owned Oto

Onitolo & Aromire families - together they owned Idumota

Onisiwo _ they owned Tarkwa Bay & Ogogoro village

Elegushi - they owned Ikate (in present day. Lekki)

Etc.

2) Oba of Lagos.

The first Oba of Lagos was Oba Ado, who came from Benin in 1630. There are various stories about his arrival, but they can be distilled into two basic stories.

A) The Benin version:

This version says that the Oba of Benin (Oba Orhogbua) had set up a military camp near Lagos called Eko and appointed Aisikahienbore as the commander of the camp.

A Bini woman (nicknamed Aina Elewure) who's trade route included Lagos, complained to Oba Orhogbua that she had been maltreated by Olofin's sons. The Oba sent a team to Lagos to find out what happened, but the team was also attacked by Olofin's sons. The Oba then sent a military expedition, headed by Aisikahienbore, to attack Lagos.

The military expedition was repelled by the Olofin and one of the Benin generals, Aseru lost his life during the encounter. This led to a prolonged war between Benin and Lagos. The Olofin was captured after many battles, but the war continued. Eventually there was a meeting between Olofin Ogunfiminire and the Oba Orhogbua in which a peace deal was reached. Benin would have a representative in Lagos (Aisikahienbore, who's name was corrupted to Ashipa by the Awori) and a military camp, while the children of the Olofin would retain control of the land of Lagos. The representative of the Oba of Benin (Ashipa's son, Edo, who's name was corrupted to Ado) would also send tributes to Benin every year. Oba Ado was the first Oba of Lagos.

B) Lagos version:

The Olofin (Alafin) Ogunfuminire, an Awori from Isheri, who is also believed to be a son of Oduduwa, founded lagos. He and his sons founded a fisherman cooperative society called Aladejo, or Idejo for short. He made Ashipa, a yoruba man with a benin wife, mediator between his quarrelling children. When Ashipa died, Olofin invited Addo, the son of Ashipa, to return from Benin to take up the role (after the quarrel between Olofin and the oba of benin had been resolved). The Idejo gave him land, a disused pepper farm, on which he built his house (Iga Idungaran - Palace on a pepper farm). When the Europeans arrived, they mistook the wealthy mediator (Oba of Lagos) for the king.

However, all the stories agree on some basic facts. (1) The oba of Lagos came from Benin. (2) The Idejo are descendants of Oduduwa. (3) The Oba of Lagos owns no land, except for the palace (Iga Idungaran). The Idejo own the land of lagos (Onikoyi owns Ikoyi, Ojora owns Ijora, Oniru own Iru [Victoria Island+Maroko], etc).

Usually, when there's a war in lagos, the war chiefs, who came from Benin with the Oba would stay and fight, while the Idejo would retire to their lands. The dual nature of the origin of lagos has caused a lot of controversy in the past. Some chiefs have declared that the Oba has only limited authority over them, either because (1) they were also kings in Benin (eg Obanikoro), or (2) because they see the Oba as being merely a mediator.
thanks baba.

APC have set us back by 4 yrs by opposing subsidy removal in 2012. not dat they didn't know d benefit of it, they just wanted to turn d pple against d govt then just to grab power.

Logical Reason!
Chief Joseph is a petroleum importer. He imports 10 million litre of petrol at the of cost of N95 per litre.

He report to the DPR that he has imported 15 million litres at the cost of N105 per litre, requesting N30 subsidy per litre.

DPR sends Mr. Yusif a inspection and monitoring officer, to measure and verify the authenticity of the claims.

Chief Joseph offered Mr. Yusif a bribe of the applied subsidy in liew of 1 million liters, which Yusif reject instantly, requesting that of 3million liters so that, it can comfortably go round to his bosses.

Apparently they ended up agreeing on 2.5m liters each. The deal is strucked, Mal. Yusif and his Bosses ended up with N75,000,000 while Joseph, the importer gain N400,000,000 on the deal They jointly cheated the government the sum of N175,000,000.

Finally Chief Joseph divert 75% of the product to the black market and sell at N120 per liter to the masses. Later the government will also pay the cost of transporting 15 million liters to the allocated filling stations across the country.

Thats exactly the case of petroleum subsidy in Nigeria. So isn't it better for the government to invest those savings of hundreds of Billions of Naira wasted every year on subsidy, on life touching projects?.

Sent from my Samsung device
govt should stop paying cost of transportation to every part of the country or else, the scarcity will persist.full deregulation is what we want, price of tomatoes and onions is not the same in kaduna and portharcourt.
