don't twist the word if u live with yoruba indigenes,a times if they want to say oun sako, shakara will follow it.e.g shey oun sako si mi abi shakara wo leleyi.Am not twisting anyword,av explained how the word shakara came to be,av read early yoruba text pre 60s and there is nothing like shakara in it,i dont live with yorubas I am Yoruba pure and simple.

Mr macmillian, as much as 'knack' is an English word it is not in anyway connected to the word 'knack' in pidgin, i only used the word 'knock' as a reference due to its close connection to the usage of 'knack', moroever, 'knack' is not a word that is normally used in colloquial conversation, so logically, it is most likely not the root of the pidgin word 'knack'. I rest my case.
funny i agree with you, knack is a corruption of the word knock in pidgin, but still knack is an English word.

cool, but i disagree on the origin of knack , it is probably an adulterated form of 'knock', 'knock' sounds like an unstressed version of 'knack in the british accent, moreover the meaning of 'knock' actually relates to the usage of 'knack'
knack is an English word not pidgin its pure English.

It's funny how non-Yorubas now know what is and what is not a Yoruba word. It's like you guys are just realizing how Yorubas have colonized pidgin English and trying to deny it lmao grin.

And dude, Yorubas are always evolving and making up words that later becomes popular; skelewu, skibobo, badoo, shakitibobo. 50years from now, una go claim these words.
Ogbeni am Yoruba so pls let it slide.

Tey in pidgin english is also Igbo,,,,,,
e.g Guy e don tey oo,,,,
for example an Igbo will say O tena/tela m furu gi

and Owu meaning to be broke,e.g owu dey blow me,,,,remember the song Owu sa gi by wizzboy
haba owu na yoruba ooo,it means lack ,famine or drought, owu mu ni ile yi meaning there is no money or economy is down in this land,

I think tey is corrupt form of late, tey tey, long time ago or late o tena or tela has no correlation with Igbo tey is corruption of the eglish word late.

go back to the comment you quoted and read it again,

since yeye is used to mock or for fun, adeyeye definately will mean funny king's crown

hahahaa

yeye is from Igbo word eyiye which means stupidity or silliness.
adeyeye and yeye in yoruba are spelt differently and pronounced differently with different meaning, adeyeye strictly mean crown that is the Ade part, the yeye part is glory, the other part yeye if written in yoruba has dot under the e while the former in adeyeye does not have a dot.

What you are trying to derive from in igbo does not correlate yeye is not derive from any word its yoruba pure and simple in its direct form.

Yes Una/Unu means You all in Igbo. The slaves took the word to Jamaica. So the origin is Igbo. Masseratti's post is a but confusing because he first attributes it to Patois and then states that the origin is Igbo. The origin is Igbo, plain and simple.
ok thanks TIL today i learn, many thanks.

what is the meaning of yeye in yoruba ?

Have you seen Igbos laughing at the name AdeYEYE before or not?

Be sincere

if you have seen such senerio, why do you think they are laughing ?
Mama in op context does not denote mother but rain 'drenge'

knack is an english word, but its use in pidgin takes shape from Igbo langauge as I explain in the comment you quoted.
i dont understand what taking shape means in a language knack is a n English word period.
Yeye is to mock or make fun in Yoruba language its pure and undilute.

* UNA: or Unu (Jamaican/Patwa/Patois)

Origin: Igbo

Etymology: Umunna, Nna

Meaning: (these/those) People

*Mama is not a Nigerian pidgin English word. Mama is local parlance in most regions for Mother. Something spelt as Momma, Mamma, Mom

* Knack is German. Meaning "low sounding blow"

Thanks
i believe una has more to do with you all than jamaican whatever, btw whats the meaning of umunna?

mama; it has Igbo origin from the word mara as in 'mmiri mara mu' to englised the Igbo word, folks start saying rain mama me.

knack; this also has Igbo origin. In igbo langauge knack is kuo, for eg
english: it is 12o'clock
igbo: o 'kuo'la 12o'clock
pidgin; e don knack 12o'clock.

yeye: this is Igbo word used to show stupidity, it is used as eyiye eg
english: this child is stupid
igbo; nwata na eyiye eyiye
pidgin; this pikin don they yeye

to further buttress my point, that is why Igbos laugh at yoruba name like AdeYEYE.
O nicca pls, stop it,the capital of pidgin english is Lagos, its no brainer why yoruba words crept into Pidgin english,
Mama, baba, papa, maa they cut accross so many language in the world, its use in many local languages predate the colonial era, yeye is pure yoruba word, knack is not pidgin its a pure English word.
@op kuku is strictly yoruba word please.

Buhari is trying really hard to muscle the judiciary through the NJC. Silencing the judges to play by Buhari's rule is bad for our democracy.

Definitely, I trust the judidciary to fight back. The NJC himself is more corrupt than most, singling out few scape goats to intimidate the judiciary is unacceptable. If there should be a fight against corruption, it should be wholistic.... NJC inclusive.
na wa ooo,you guys can never see good in anything right now,did Buhari made the Judges to err?so if they err the NJC should not fo their Job anymore cos you guys have to be happy?

why are these bloggers deceiving the public for Christ sake, the use of dollars for international trade is a policy already made and sealed in the UN, unless the country wants to face sanction no one can change that treaty,so don't get your hopes up....even if you want to import from China you have to convert to dollar since the world bank deals in dollars
smh for Dollards!!!
where did you get that from,un sealed the use og dollar for international trade?lol.

That much said, what china is trying to do as nothing to do with changinh price of phone or easing up the pressure on foreign exchange rate nothing will change there will still be pressure on the naira if we still keep our official rate,we should do away with fixing the rate allow the market to determine the price.
What china is doing is to create an alternative and shock absorber for tje world economy, during the recession couple of years ago,the financial meltdown in the US affected all the major economy in the world, with china holding the highest amount in US bonds which were dominated in dollars, the dollars in pegged on the value of gold at a point, ask your self whats the foreign reserve of the USA?gold, what do you think will happen if a mountain of gold is found today and the value of gold crash like silicon?thats what the chinese are trying to do with yuan and the euro should be.

Why are all exonerating Ameachi. NASS shouldn't be blamed for a ministry's error. Ameachi never included it in the budget. The all uprising in NASS over the missing Lagos-Calabar railway still amazes me.

We should put the blame on Ameachi for such fatal flaw.
agreed that ameachi did not put it in the original budget but he presented it to the commitee, does the appropration commitee chairman has the right to introduce new project that didnt come from the presidency in the budget?is that not same as what hr input was never in the original budget?its even criminal what he did,he should be in jail by now.

Good question. If you borrow from Nigerians u won't develop that website for 78m you will develop it for 500k and save 77.5m. So paying the double digit to Nigeria won't be an issue if you are serious.

But if u borrow from China, you can do that website for 78m and pay single digit interest. Which is better? to borrow at double digit and save 77.5m or pay over 78m at single digit?
who is talking about website?its rail not website .

Nigerians can lend this govt any amount it need for infrastructure if it has a plan to pay back. What is the treasury bills and bonds there for?

Why go outside to borrow? So that they will eat and go free and Nigeria will pay. Borrow from Nigerians if you are serious and don't pay back and watch them burn ur generation.

If things are hard let's see it from those in power first.

The money from oil boom is what APC politicians used to put PMB there.
why borrow from Nigerians at double digits when China will give you in single digit.
