HealthHow To Cope With Genophobia – Fear Of Sexual Intercourse by massmediang(op): 11:15pm On Nov 28, 2017
If you have not read any of our series on phobiaholic, you need to read this one. Some people suffer from genophobia without knowing it. The knowledge you gain from this interesting piece could be of use in helping another person with this ailment, it could even be your partner. Some people are afraid of having sex without knowing that it is actually a health-related disorder. Find out the causes of genophobia and how to treat it using the appropriate therapy. Read this amazing piece updated by Lisa Fritscher, originally sourced from American Psychiatric Association contained in Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders.
Genophobia – Fear of Sexual Intercourse

Genophobia, also known as coitophobia, is the fear of sexual intercourse. People with this fear may be afraid of all sex acts, or only of intercourse itself. The term genophobia is sometimes used interchangeably with erotophobia, or the fear of sex, but the two conditions are actually different. Genophobia specifically describes fear of the sex act, while erotophobia more generally defines any fear that is related to sexuality.

Genophobia Causes

Like all phobias, genophobia is most likely to develop after a severe trauma. Rape and molestation are the most common triggers for genophobia, and cultural upbringing and religious teachings may also increase the risk for this fear. Genophobia is sometimes linked to insecurities or body image issues, as well as medical concerns. Additionally, genophobia sometimes occurs independently of any identifiable causes.

Rape Trauma Syndrome: Rape is a fundamental violation of the victim’s body and mind. In the aftermath of rape, virtually all survivors undergo an intense psychological reaction. Although not everyone reacts in the same way, most people follow a loosely organized three-stage path. One way of conceptualizing the journey, from acute trauma through reorganization and finally resolution, is known as rape trauma syndrome. Similar to post-traumatic stress disorder, rape trauma syndrome dramatically elevates the risks for developing related mental health conditions. Phobias most often occur during the reorganization phase, as survivors try to rebuild their lives, although they could develop at any time. The path through rape trauma syndrome is intensely personal and may take anywhere from months to years to fully resolve.
Cultural and Religious Fears: If you are a member of a religious or cultural group that frowns on sexual intercourse, the fact that you follow those teachings does not indicate a phobia. However, phobias can develop when people transition from one set of beliefs and practices to another. Lingering guilt, self-doubt, or fear of breaking the old ways may heighten the risk for phobias.
Performance Anxiety: Many people, particularly those who are less sexually experienced, fear that they will be unable to please a partner. Although these fears are generally mild and self-limiting, they can also be more severe. In some cases, performance anxiety can develop into genophobia.
Fear of Disease: In the modern world, it would be virtually impossible not to be aware that sexual intercourse carries the risk for numerous diseases, including HIV. Most people are able to successfully balance this risk, using such precautions as condoms, monogamy, and STD testing to bring the risk down to a personally acceptable level. If you suffer from nosophobia, hypochondriasis, cyberchondria, mysophobia, or another related disorder, you may be unable to logically weigh the risks and rewards. You may feel that sex is dangerous and never worth taking even a small chance of infection. Additionally, some people are afraid that sex will be painful.
Medical Concerns: Fears that arise from legitimate medical concerns are never considered phobias, as long as the level of fear is proportionate to the situation. Numerous medical conditions, from erectile dysfunction to some heart disorders, make sexual activity difficult, impossible, or even potentially dangerous. Caution and even fear may be prudent in these situations. Nonetheless, some people develop fears that are far out of proportion to the level of risk. For example, if your doctor has cleared you to return to normal activities following a heart attack, it is normal to feel some trepidation before your first post-attack sexual experience. Deciding to forego sexual activity altogether would be a disproportionate reaction in that situation. Always follow your doctor’s advice when coping with any medical condition, and seek assistance for any fear that seems unusually severe or long-lasting.

Coping With the Fear of Sexual Intercourse

Sex is an important aspect of the human condition, and genophobia can have devastating impacts on those who experience it. Some people choose to live asexual lives, finding meaning and fulfillment outside of sexual experience. However, those who choose asexuality out of fear, rather than clear-headed choice, often find themselves feeling unfulfilled and lonely. Genophobia can also wreak havoc on romantic relationships, particularly if your partner’s level of interest in sex differs from your own.

Genophobia is often treated by sex therapists, who are mental health professionals with advanced training and certification in sexual matters.

However, most cases of genophobia can also be treated by traditional therapists without the additional certification. Furthermore, those who experience pain or other medical difficulties during intercourse should seek advice from a medical doctor.

Christianity EtcBizarre Art! Locals Outraged As ‘crucified Cow’ Is Erected At Center Of Catholic by massmediang(op): 1:43pm On Nov 28, 2017
Local Catholics in a Belgian town are outraged as a cruciform cow has been erected as art at the center of a consecrated Catholic church. They are urging the local bishop to have it removed and offer public prayers of reparation.

The “art” exhibit by Tom Herck is to be displayed until early December in the small parish church of Saint John the Baptist of Kuttekoven, in the Flemish town of Borgloon.

Last Sunday, a group of several dozen Catholics came to pray and demonstrate in front of the religious building where occasional Masses are still read, asking for the local bishop, Mgsr. Patrick Hoogmartens, to intervene.
The “artist” went through the grueling process of actually nailing the 500 kg corpse of a cow to a cross before covering it with silicone paint: it is the resulting mold that hangs, “crucified” in the center of the church as a sneering mockery of one of the most sacred images of the Catholic faith: that of the crucified God and Saviour of mankind.

In contemporary art, by far the most important part of an opus resides in the “discourse” – or, more appropriately, gibberish – that surrounds it. The installation in Borgloon, Tom Herck is happy to explain, aims to make a stand against modern wastefulness. The cow on the cross, surmounting a basin containing 5,000 litres of milk, is supposed to symbolize industrial breeding and thrown-away food. Visitors are welcomed with beef and cheese appetizers.

BusinessDisappointed! No Black Friday Discount At Main Market Onitsha Yesterday by massmediang(op): 10:10am On Nov 25, 2017
It was a huge disappointment for so many buyers in Onitsha yesterday, particularly those who understand the meaning of Black Friday, that there was no form of discount in any shop in Main Market, to mark the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

Black Friday is marked across the world with series of mouth-watering discounts for buyers.

But traders in Onitsha Main Market seem not to know the existence of such tradition or do not want to know.

Some of the traders spoken to said such practice is not mentioned in main market. Another one said they are actually hiking their prices for Christmas sales and nothing like discount for Black Friday.

Does this mean buyers in Nigeria can not enjoy special Black Market discount in Main Market?

EducationOjukwu Varsity Students Receive Fowl, Yam, Catfish And Paw Paw As Prizes by massmediang(op):
Students of Department of Mass Communication, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) have received Agricultural products as prizes for emerging tops in a competition organized by their lecturer.

The students who emerged best in various categories were given live fowl, cat fish, paw paw and yam tubers, together with their certificates after they were selected as winners in the competition.

The competition was organized by their lecturer, Dr. Chinenye Nwabueze, together with massmediang.com and partners for 300 level students taken his course in Magazine and Newspaper management and production.
The competition which spanned three months had three categories – best student blogger, best in newspaper production, and best in magazine cover design. Every student in the class participated in the competition but the students thought it was simply a class work, not knowing that the results of the practical exercise will be given to external assessors to pick out the best.

At the end of the assessment, Judith Muoneke emerged Over-all best Student blogger because she was the most active among all bloggers. She received a live fowl and paw paw. Next was Immaculata Nweke who shared the first position with Judith, because she created the best blog (paragongistng.com). Immaculata left with a live fowl and paw paw. Next was Onyinye Nwankwo who took the second position in this category, also received a live fowl. She was followed by Onyinye Emenajo who left with a catfish for taken the third position. Others who received consolation prizes of one yam tuber each, in this category are Bob-manuel Nnebulu, Chetachi Anwuka, Joseph Agu, Chikodiri Nnadozie, and Chiemena Alia.

Dr. Nwabueze said in an interview that it is always good to honour and celebrate students when they do something outstanding, adding that this will inspire others to work hard. On why Agricultural products such as live fowl, paw paw, catfish, and yam were used as prizes in an academic exercise, Nwabueze insisted that the best way for Nigeria to get serious with Agriculture is to ensure that every award is agricultural product. According to him; “If someone wins Miss Nigeria, instead of buying the person a car, give her a ‘mighty’ fish pond which can even fetch her 10 cars within a shot while if the business is well managed.”

Foreign AffairsPhysically Challenged Man Who Voted Uhuru Kenyatta Gets Presidential Attention by massmediang(op): 9:20pm On Nov 01, 2017
A physically challenged man in Kenya who voted for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the recently concluded repeat Presidential elections has caught the attention of the President himself.
The October 26 election came as a blessing for John Gichuhi Macharia when his photos while he cast his vote in Kiambu were shared on the internet.
Media reports have it that Transport cabinet secretary James Macharia was tasked with finding out where Macharia stays and have him, probably meet the President.
Radio Jambo reported that besides the CS, other local administrators had been asked to get through to Macharia. Macharia was born without hands and has learned to use his legs in doing all jobs and TUKO.co.ke was informed that he can type on the computer, mobile phone and even drive a car. And according to reports by Radio Jambo, he was found in his rented single room in Witeithie estate in Thika, Kiambu County.
“What I want is a shop that is able to accommodate cosmetics, a salon, a barber shop and a cyber café and all I need is capital,” he was quoted as having said by Radio Jambo. The news that Kenyatta was looking for him came as a dream as he is used to be used by politicians for their personal gains since he left school in 2012. He moved from his rural home in Murang’a four years ago after the death of his mother and could only get assistance in his current residence because his uncle lived there.
Unfortunately, his uncle also passed on living him alone as his father remarried.
The repeat election has ended up a blessing in disguise for Macharia as the President is bent on reaching him at all cost.

PoliticsFake News! “obiano Knows Nothing About Customized APGA Champagne Bottles”-source by massmediang(op): 9:46pm On Oct 29, 2017
Governor Willie Obiano’s Campaign Team has dissociated the governor from the customized bottles of Champaign with his face, circulating in the social media, describing it as campaign of calumny by the opposition.

A source in the governor’s campaign team said the bottles of wine which also have the acronym of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) were not sponsored by the governor, adding that the governor had no hand in the story.

“I have read the story. I also saw the bottles of wine in the social media. That has nothing to do with the governor. How can the governor do that kind of thing? That story is the handiwork of mischief makers,” the source said.

It could be recalled that bottles of wine said have been imported from Spain were circulated in the social media, with the claim that Governor Obiano had brought in the drinks and also used them for an event he did in Lagos.

FamilyPhobiaholic! See The 15 Most Common Phobias That Torment People by massmediang(op): 9:56pm On Oct 28, 2017
We continue our series on various kinds of phobia which we have tagged ‘Phobiaholic’. So if you are among those who are drunk with fear of what they don’t understand, this column is for you. Whether you are afraid of things or not, this column is essential for you to understand the kinds of phobia that exist and how to overcome them. You could use the knowledge you gained here to be of assistance to some else. You may never know when or where. Today we share an interesting piece by Wendy Innes on the 15 most common phobias in the wold. Why not read this to add to enrich your knowledge on phobias and know when you fall victim to any of them. Just read this.
The 15 Most Common Phobias That Frighten People

Nearly everyone has some kind of fear, and some fears are more common than others. Sometimes these fears are rooted in actual experiences and other times they are not. Even having multiple phobias is quite common. These are just some of the most common phobias, but there are much more that have been documented.

1. Arachnophobia
https://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Giant-Spider-Sacres-a-Man-22514-300x225.jpg
Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders. Many people who share this fear are typically affected by a childhood memory, or are just frightened by the appearance. Even the thought of one crawling on their skin can make them shudder in fear. In the dark ages, spiders were thought to harbor the bubonic plague and were seen as a source of food and water contamination, leading to a widespread fear of spiders.

2. Ophidiophobia

Ophidiophobia is a fear of snakes. Some experts believe that the fear of snakes may be an innate survival mechanism to protect people from poisonous reptiles, though others argue that if this was the case, this phobia wouldn’t be as common as it is. This phobia can cause people to avoid places like zoos or pet stores.

3. Acrophobia[img]
http://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/manonaledge-300x253.jpg[/img]
Acrophobia is a fear of heights. Unlike a lot of fears, this fear can manifest into other fears, such as a fear of flying or roller coasters. This fear can vary in severity as well. Some may avoid things like climbing ladders, while others may not be able to ride in an elevator or go to a high floor in a building.

4. Necrophobia

Necrophobia is the fear of death or dead things. This is a very common fear, especially after the loss of a loved one. This fear is a sort of defense mechanism of the mind. This can also be a very difficult phobia to overcome because of the uncertainty surrounding death and the large faith component associated with death and dying.

5. Cynophobia
Cynophobia is the fear of dogs, and is often the result of a traumatic experience. For example, someone bitten by a dog as an infant may have a fear of dogs into adulthood without knowing why. This phobia can cause people to avoid dog-owning friends or relatives.

6. Claustrophobia

Most people know that claustrophobia is the fear of confined spaces. This fear can manifest after a traumatic experience, such as being stuck in an elevator, though this is not always the case. Claustrophobia can vary in severity and is known to run in families.

7. Coulrophobia

Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns. Many people develop this fear as children, though this isn’t always the case. Clowns are often portrayed in media as bad, such as in the move “It”, or in real life as was the case with serial killer John Wayne Gacy who dressed up like a clown. This can trigger a phobia in some people.

8. Pediophobia

This is the phobia of dolls. Dolls were originally created as vessels for the dead, and this seems to be the root of many fears, particularly that the dolls could cause harm to the person with the phobia. One high profile case of pediophobia is that of Zak Bagans from the television show “Ghost Adventures.” Bagans’ phobia is so intense that he cannon touch a doll or toy clown.

TravelBizarre!woman Gets Photo Of Gigantic Earthworm Driven Above Ground By Heavyrains by massmediang(op): 11:48pm On Oct 27, 2017
A gigantic 2ft earthworm has been discovered by an Australian woman after it was driven above ground by torrential rains.

Kelli Mace posted a photo on Facebook of her holding the huge creature with two sticks after it emerged from the earth around Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, and it was soon picked up by Australian news outlets.

The area, which is covered in rain forest, is known for the massive species of worm, known as Digaster longmani, and which can grow up to 3ft long.
Usually they remain deep underground, but heavy rain across the Gold Coast area last week has driven the creatures from their borrows.

The region on the east coast of Australia saw particularly heavy rainfall on Friday when over an inch fell in 36 hours.

Paul Lyons, a member of the Tamborine Mountain National History Association, told the Courier Mail that sightings of giant worms was becoming rarer.

He said: “They are about a bit over a metre in length, about 30mm in diameter and they live deep in the rainforest soil. They burrow deep in the ground and when it gets too wet down underneath they come up.

“It was quite common to see them but now you don’t see as many as you used to because there are more houses.”
For people living around Tamborine Mountain the giant worms are a sight they have grown used to.

One resident, Jules Dollins, said: “I have definitely seen them in the area and a few of my friends who live in North Tamborine have seen

“They were quite large, actually they almost looked like a small version of a snake, just round and a giant worm.

“They were bigger than my foot so probably about a foot and a half long, and they were at my friend’s house just coming out of the ground.”

PoliticsIn Case They Succeed! Quick Facts About Catalonia by massmediang(op): 11:40pm On Oct 27, 2017
Catalonia is insisting on independence while Spain has imposed direct rule on the region. It is located North-East of Spain. Well, many are watching from the gallery to know who wins the battle. But you may just be hearing about Catalonia only since the recent struggle for independence began or you may have known Catalonia because of Barcelona football club. This is an opportunity to understand more about the region, why they want to break away, and why Spain does not want to let that happen? What will Catalonia’s independence cost Spain? Read this piece to get quick insight about Catalonia.
History
Catalonia was an independent region of the Iberian Peninsula modern day Spain and Portugal – with its own language, laws and customs. In 1150, the marriage of Petronilia, Queen of Aragon and Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Barcelona formed a dynasty leaving their son to inherit all territories concerning the region of Aragon and Catalonia. This lasted until the reign of King Philip V. The War of the Spanish Succession ended with the defeat of Valencia in 1707, of Catalonia in 1714, and finally with the last of the islands in 1715 – resulting in the birth of modern-day Spain.
Subsequent kings tried to impose the Spanish language and laws on the region, but they abandoned their attempts in 1931 and restored the Generalitat (the national Catalan government).
General Francisco Franco, however, set out to destroy Catalan separatism and with his victory at the Battle of Ebro in 1938 he took control of the region, killing 3,500 people and forcing many more into exile. The region was granted a degree of autonomy once more in 1977, when democracy returned to the country.
Calls for complete independence grew steadily until July 2010, when the Constitutional Court in Madrid overruled part of the 2006 autonomy statute, stating that there is no legal basis for recognising Catalonia as a nation within Spain.
The economic crisis in Spain has only served to magnify calls for Catalonia independence, as the wealthy Barcelona region is seen as propping up the poorer rest of Spain.
The region’s politics
The conservative Popular Party of Mariano Rajoy, the Spanish prime minister, is only the fifth-largest party in Catalonia, and is strongly opposed to any moves for independence for the region.
The president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, is backed by a coalition of Catalan nationalist forces from the conservative CDC and the leftist Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) parties, which, together with the radical Left-wing CUP party, command a majority in the region’s parliament.
In September 2017, this majority approved the holding of a binding referendum on independence for Catalonia, but Spain’s constitutional court suspended the process.
The Catalan authorities went through with the vote, leading to violence inside and around polling stations as Spanish security forces seized ballot boxes and attempted to close down the vote. They said that 2.26 million votes had been counted, with 90 per cent in favour of independence.
Mr Puigdemont says the result is a mandate for a unilateral declaration of independence, although he says he would prefer to negotiate the terms of secession from Spain with the government in Madrid.

HealthItalian HIV Positive Man Gets 24 Years For Sleeping With 52 Women, Infecting 30 by massmediang(op): 11:31pm On Oct 27, 2017
It was end of the road for an Italian man who became a sex rascal by infecting more than 30 women with the HIV virus.

Valentino Talluto, a 33-year-old accountant was sentenced on Friday to 24 years in prison after having unprotected sex with the women despite knowing that he was HIV positive, for a court ruled.

The Telegraph reports that Talluto seduced dozens of women via social networks for a decade before his arrest in November 2015. Police believe he had sex with at least 53 women during that time, passing on the virus to 32 of them.

The male partners of three of the women subsequently contracted the potentially fatal illness, as did an eight-month-old infant of a fourth woman.

HealthVaginal Ring! The New Tool For Fighting HIV/AIDS; See How It Works by massmediang(op): 5:37pm On Oct 14, 2017
The dreaded Human Imuno Deficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are still troubling several countries in Africa despite the concentration of intensive efforts against the ailments. Well, medical experts are coming up with various techniques on how to fight the menace especially among women in the continent. One of these emerging strategies is the use of Vaginal Ring to prevent infection.
A vaginal ring is a contraceptive ring which sits inside the vagina. It contains two hormones, oestrogen and progestogen and stops ovaries from releasing an egg each month, according to familyplanning.org. The vaginal ring is inserted into the vagina on the first day of a woman’s menstrual cycle and stays in place for three weeks in a row and is then removed while the woman has her period. A new ring is inserted on the first day of the next menstrual cycle, A vaginal ring is a contraceptive ring which sits inside the vagina. A new ring is inserted on the first day of the next menstrual cycle.
Research findings have shown that the virginal ring can reduce risk of HIV/AIDS infection, though there is need to combine the ring with other measures to ensure complete success against the disease. Read this interesting piece about studies done on the virginal ring to know what it is and how it works.

This vaginal ring can safely reduce the risk of HIV in women, trial shows

A vaginal ring that dispenses an HIV-preventative drug blocked about a quarter of HIV infections in a trial involving 2,600 women in Africa, according to a report published in The New England Journal of Medicine. When the numbers were broken down by age, researchers found that the monthly ring blocked more than half of HIV infections among HIV-negative women over the age of 21 who used the ring most consistently.

Given that the vaginal ring can be replaced once a month and doesn’t require a partner’s cooperation — unlike the condom — that’s encouraging news. This is the first study to show that a device that involves the sustained release of an HIV medication can work to block the virus in women, the researchers say.

“This ring could provide a prevention option that a woman can use discretely and which is under her control — which is incredibly empowering,” says Jared Baeten, an epidemiologist at the University of Washington and a co-author of the study.

Of the 35 million people living with HIV today, women make up more than half. And in some parts of Africa, one in four or even one in three women has HIV, Baeten says. Unfortunately, women don’t always have the social capital to impose common STD preventatives, like condoms, on male sexual partners. That’s why researchers have been working on HIV-prevention methods that women can use on their own. But trials involving the use of anti-HIV medicines in women haven’t always been successful.
In 2015, for instance, researchers announced that a trial for PrEP — also known as the HIV prevention pill — was a dud because most women didn’t take their daily doses. This may have occurred because participants didn’t know if they were taking a drug or a placebo, researchers suggested at the time. And that does appear to have had an impact; a second trial in Botswana showed that women were more likely to take the pill when they knew it contained medicine. Still, these trials suggest that perhaps a method that doesn’t require taking a drug every day could be more effective. And that’s why today’s study stands out. Even though the women in this trial didn’t know if they had been given a placebo ring, the researchers noted a reduction in the risk of HIV infection among the women who were given the anti-HIV ring.

HealthIs Devocalisation Cool! Chinese ‘vet’ Slices Dogs’ Vocal Cords To 'debark' Them by massmediang(op): 8:50am On Oct 10, 2017
Animal cruelty seems to be the solution to pet problem in a Chinese community where dogs could get taken away from their owners for barking and disturbing neighbours.

A video taken with a hidden camera by a Chinese journalist on September 14 shows a man posing as a vet and cutting out dogs’ vocal cords in a procedure known as “debarking”.

The shocking images were taken in a street market in Chengdu, in southwestern China. The online outcry over the video shows how attitudes towards pets are changing in the country – but also how there’s still a lot to be done for animal welfare.
https://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/debarking_tizer-300x169.jpg
The Observers reports that the photos show a street littered with bloody bits of vocal cord and cotton swabs, while nearby unconscious dogs are lined up on a step waiting for their anaesthetic to wear off. A report by the local Chengdu Business Daily exposed the gruesome practice in an article published on September 17. According to the paper, a man proclaimed to be a vet and set up shop in Chengdu’s Qingbaijiang market to carry out “devocalisation” operations on dogs. A video and photos of the procedure went viral in China.
Devocalisation is a surgery that removes the vocal cords from the animal to stop it making noise. It’s a risky procedure that can lead to the animal having difficulty breathing and eating. In the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals, it is classed as a form of mutilation.

Photos taken by Chengdu Business Daily’s reporter show the man sat at a table in the market and performing the operation on at least six different dogs. The dogs are laid on the table in front of him on their bellies and anaesthetised. His assistant uses a red cord to hold open the dog’s jaws while the man uses unsterilised and bloody scissors to reach into the animal’s throat to cut out the vocal cords.

CultureBeauty And The Neck! Meet The ‘giraffe’ Women Of Padaung Tribe In Burma by massmediang(op): 11:12pm On Oct 02, 2017
There are cultures that seem very exciting not because we want to practice them but just that they are too strange to make sense. One of such cultures is found among the Padaung tribe, a subgroup of the Karenni, Burma (Myanmar) where the beauty of a woman lies in the length of her neck. There you find several women moving like Ostrich of Giraffes, giving the tribes women a nick name – the Giraffe women. This is an interesting piece. Find out why the Padaung women choose to look like Ostrich to prove their beauty. An interesting piece by Justkeeprunning.com provides a quick insight to the world of the ‘Giraffe’ women.

The Longer, the More Beautiful

How having long neck makes you look beautiful? Well, as a Malay, I’ve always seen a woman with long neck to be physically attractive, in which you refer her to have ‘leher jinjang’. But, what beautiful long neck is for “giraffe” tribe in eastern Burma or Myanmar, is certainly does not fit the image of being beautiful in my mind.

These women with long necks are from Padaung tribe, a subgroup of the Karenni which in turn is a subgroup of the Karen. “Padaung”, in the Shan anguage means “long neck”. The coils around their necks are actually made from brass and gold alloy. These women start wearing the coils as early as 5 years old, and as they get older, they add up more coils to their necks. It’s like spending long years of your life having something around your neck. Aarghh…I just can’t imagine if I were to be one of those women.

For them, having long neck is the symbol of wealth, position and beauty. Apart from being a beauty tradition, it is also said that many myths or histories lie behind the long-neck custom. Some said that wearing brass coils around necks in the past functioned to protect Padaung women from tigers, as they bite people’s necks. Others claim that it made them resemble the myth dragon, but it is also claimed that long necks were intended to make them look less attractive, hence they are likely to be taken as slaves in the past. Ironically, today’s Padaung women who still practise the coils wearing tradition tend to have long necks to preserve the tradition, and to look more beautiful!

FamilyKnow This! 10 Mysterious Things That Happen To You While You Sleep! by massmediang(op): 12:15pm On Sep 25, 2017
Sleep is something we all love doing because it helps refresh the body. You forget every worry around you if you are able to have a nice sleep. But what happens to you while you sleep is a mystery. I think you would like to know them. Read this very interesting piece for that knowledge. Very necessary!

10 MYSTERIOUS THINGS THAT OCCUR WHILE YOU SLEEP

Decoding what happens inside our brains while we sleep is still a gruelling task for science. While the scientists are at it, we have listed 10 bizarre and mysterious things that happen while we catch forty winks. The reasons why these happen are still mystery, nevertheless, we have listed their probable causes.
https://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/images.jpg

SLEEP PARALYSIS: It refers to the state of waking up but not being able to move or even talk. It can be paired with scary thoughts and hallucinations. It could happen because our bodies ‘turn off’ the muscles related to breathing except diaphragm during our sleep.

HYPNAGOGIC HALLUCINATIONS: This refers to imagining scary and fantastic creatures around you when you are about to fall asleep, that is, when you are on the verge of falling asleep but are still awake. They are most common in children and this explains their resistance towards going to bed. It can result from stress or a healthy imagination.

REPETITIVE DREAMS: This is one of the most fascinating phenomena of dreams. You would be surprised to know that recurring dreams are related to our reality at least in part. The dream is repeated by our brain because we are trying to come to terms with something that has happened. Let’s say, you were attacked by a robber or snatch thieve when you went out to buy groceries. It is probable that your brain would play that scene again and again in your dream so that you come to terms with it. Whereas, everyday events like grocery shopping will get processed easily and your brain will move ahead.

SLEEP SEX: There are many people who wake up mid act and it is called as sexsomnia! The reason behind this is similar to the reason behind sleepwalking. Your body is coming out of sleep while your mind is not conscious enough and so you may begin sex with your partner while you are still asleep. Psychologists say that one’s attitude towards sexsomnia and the way people behave during it is very different from waking sex.

DREAMING WITHIN A DREAM: It can happen that while dreaming, you feel that you have woken up. However, the dream-like, strange things continue to happen. It is because you didn’t wake up in reality but within the dream. This happening was also explored by the movie ‘Inception’. The only explanation that exists for this is a predisposition to spiritual practises, nothing so scientificly though.
https://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Sleepwalking1-300x225.jpg

SLEEPWALKING: This one can be a dangerous occurrence as when you sleepwalk, you can hit yourself into something, rush out of your house or even get behind the wheel. The worst part is that when you will wake up, you won’t remember anything. This happens because while sleepwalking, your body is awake but not your mind. The cause of the phenomenon is unknown but it affects children more. The risk could increase with certain medications.

https://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/obe.lady_-300x145.jpg
OUT-OF-BODY EXPERIENCE: It is referred to as a neuropsychological phenomenon in which a person feels that his consciousness is outside his body and he can see his body lying on the bed. Scientifically, there is no explanation to this phenomenon, however, for occultists, it is a proof of the existence of soul. There are many who practice doing this consciously in order to expand their cognitive capabilities.

Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor attributed the agitations, tensions and sense of hopelessness in the country to years of injustice, marginalization and corruption which Nigeria had experienced.

He therefore called for fervent prayers for God’s intervention to salvage the seeming hopeless situation in the country. Special prayers were at then said for the peace of the nation and the development of the state.

HealthThe Fear Of Dying Is Called Thanatophobia! See How To Overcome It by massmediang(op): 10:43am On Sep 22, 2017
https://massmediang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/57-300x200.jpg

We continue our series on various kinds of phobia which we have tagged ‘Phobiaholic’. So if you are among those who are drunk with fear of what they don’t understand, this column is for you. Whether you are afraid of things or not, this column is essential for you to understand the kinds of phobia that exist and how to overcome them. You could use the knowledge you gained here to be of assistance to some else. You may never know when or where. Just read this.

Today we look at the fear of dying young or dying at all. It is called thanatophobia (fear of death). Intrusive thoughts about dying early or dying at all can be a real pain. Some people have had chronic anxiety for many years which makes them afraid of death even when it looks like there is no need for that.

This does not include the natural fear you have when you sense imminent fatal danger may be due to sickness or other causes. The fact that we know that people die can make us to be afraid of death. But not the habitual fear of dying which is the phobia we are looking at here.

The fear of death is a common cause and effect of anxiety, and even those without anxiety often experience this fear in some ways.

Thanatophobia exists when someone is always gripped with inexplicable fear that he or she might die the next moment even when everyone around him is having fun. Some people who belong to some religious groups get spiritually jittery at the slightest movement. If a friendly-looking lizard stops around them and wastes more than three seconds before nodding and leaving, they begin to cast and bind, insisting that their enemies who want them dead are within reach.

On a more serious note, thanatophobia is an ailment that should be dealt with. Definitely everyone will die one day but being afraid of death every second of your life is something you or your friend should not be experiencing. Read this article on how to overcome the fear of dying young or dying at all.

Thanatophobia is a form of death anxiety. It is distinguished from necrophobia, which is a specific fear of dead or dying persons and/or things (i.e. others who are dead or dying, not one’s own death or dying).

Read what calmclini.com has to say about what could lead to fear of death:

Fear of Death as a Symptom or as a Cause

It’s also important to note that there is a significant difference between those whose life is altered by their fear of death, and those that have a fear of death that acts as a symptom of their disorder. Distinguishing between these is very important for treatment. The differences are examined below.

Fear of Death from Anxiety Attacks

Your heartbeat races. You feel sharp pains in your chest. The room appears to be spinning out of control. You don’t know what’s going on, but you know that something bad is happening. It feels like a heart attack, and you feel doom, as though the world is about to end.

You feel like you’re about to die. Then all of the sudden nothing happens, the fear generally starts to fade away (leaving you feeling drained), and you’re left wondering whether something is wrong with your health.

What you may have had was a panic attack, and the fear of death is a symptom of the attack. Here the fear of death is caused by several factors:

Factors that cause fear of Death

Fight or Flight Rush: Anxiety is a poorly performing fight or flight system, which is the system that your body activates when it’s experiencing severe danger. An anxiety attack is essentially the peak of this fear. Your body rushes with an intense amount of adrenaline, and this alters your brain chemistry and thought patterns to tell you that you’re in grave danger. It’s the same way you would feel if you were holding onto a ledge above a 10 story building. Your body is telling you that you need to be very afraid because your life is in danger. Unfortunately, in the case of panic attacks, your body is wrong, and the result is a feeling of death and doom despite no danger present.

Symptoms of Serious Disorders: Panic attack/anxiety attack symptoms are also very similar to other major health problems. Many panic attacks are so severe that they directly resemble heart attacks and heart failure. Thousands of people are hospitalized every year because of their panic attacks, only to find that their heart is in good health. But during a panic attack, it’s very easy to not believe that anxiety can be causing the problem. After all, the pains and sensations are all real, and many people cannot help but fear that they indicate something very serious and that if left untreated, you may be likely to die. It’s a very common problem in those with anxiety, even after doctor’s visits. This is likely to contribute to a long term fear of death, as well as a fear of further panic attacks because of a concern that they’re something other than anxiety.

Hypochondria: Similarly, no matter how hard you try to convince yourself that what you’re experiencing it’s anxiety – and no matter how many doctor’s visits you have – it’s not uncommon to develop hypochondria, which is often directly related to the fear of death. (Hypochondria is excessive worrying about your health, to the point where it causes great distress and affects your everyday lifestyle). Those with panic attacks often convince themselves that they likely have a broad range of health problems including: Multiple Sclerosis, Lyme Disease, Various Cancers, Brain Tumors. Only a doctor can rule these out, of course, but no matter how often you visit your doctor you may find that it becomes nearly impossible to believe that there isn’t something more physical causing your anxiety symptoms, and that can create a fear of diseases that may contribute to an early death.

All of these are reasons that the fear of death is common in those with anxiety attacks. If this sounds like you, don’t forget to take my anxiety test now.

SportsTerrible!some Viewing Centers Look Like Shrines In The Middle Of An Evil Forest! by massmediang(op):

The 2017/2018 Football season in Europe has just kicked off and fans have started moving in droves to viewing centers to watch these games. But what baffles many Nigerians is why some viewing center owners do not care about the welfare of their customers. They are only interested in collecting the fee for each game, in most cases, no good ventilation, interior and exterior environment are inhuman, yet fans manage these venues. Some viewing centers look like goat houses, some like poultry houses while others are located in places that look like evil forest. Most viewing center owners use abandoned or uncompleted buildings and corners only fit for Indian hemp smokers and misfits, as viewing centers. This is unbelievably callous!
Some people have asked whether it is the N50 and N100 paid per match that will be used to make the viewing centers befitting. Those who say this are ignorant of the fact that one fan spends close to N15,000 to N20,000 at the end of each season after watching weekend and mid week games. This may seem small but when multiplied by the number of fans that watch a match in one viewing center, it is clear that these football lovers deserve more.

Don’t you think so?

Three farmers in Anaku, Ayamelum local government area of the Anambra state have lost their lives after heavy flooding ravaged communities in Riverine areas of Anambra North.

Tragedy struck on Thursday, September 7, when one of the deceased Obiorah Emeka had gone to check his fish trap which, it was later gathered, had made serious catch with fish overflowing the trap due to the flooding. He did not know that the current of the flooding was high and dangerous. As he approached the trap with his boat he got swept away by the violent current of the heavy flooding and disappeared without any trace. His corpse which had begun to swell was sported floating on the flooded farms the next day.

At about the same time Obiorah had fallen victim to the flood, another middle-aged man, Anthony Ikegbunam Nwakaeze had gone to rescue the remaining yam tubers in his farm which had been overwhelmed by heavy flooding. He had uprooted the yams earlier while the flooding was building up, in order not to leave them to rot in the water-logged ground. He took some to safety and as he returned to carry the remaining tubers, he did not know that the flooding had increased in current and mass. He got swept away in the flooded farm and also disappeared without a trace. His corpse was also seen afloat the flooded farm the next day after fruitless rescue operation.
A third man, an elderly farmer, Oranyelu Egwuatu Nwato, had died of High Blood Pressure in his home after he realized he witnessed his farmland flooded by water with all the crops in it.

These tragic incidents have thrown the entire Anaku community into mourning, prompting them to intensify their call on the State government to come to their rescue over the incidents of flooding affecting their communities.

Christianity EtcRev. Fathers Will Contest Elections If Politicians Fail Again- Cathoilic Bishop by massmediang(op): 8:43am On Sep 18, 2017

Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, Jonas Benson Okoye has said that Catholic Priests would begin to contest for political offices if politicians continue to perform as poorly as they are currently doing.

Bishop Okoye said this on Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, Amesi in Anambra State during Homily celebrated to mark the silver jubilee of the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Bishop Ebere Okpaleke.

Bishop Okoye said that the performance of politicians at all levels is disappointing, adding that the people are not happy with what elected office holders are doing.

He said that the Catholic community will give the politicians one more chance and if they failed to perform, Rev. Fathers will be prepared to join politics and contest elections.

The Bishop added that once Catholic Priests go into politics, no one else will get the positions until the priests are tired of contesting elections.

Bishop Okoye noted that though the Canon Law guiding the Catholic church says priests should not contest elections, if politicians did not improve their performance, the Church may have to review the Canon Law to make it possible for Rev. Fathers to go into politics.

Foreign AffairsMarisa Papen, Model Jailed Over Nude Photoshoot At Egyptian Temple by massmediang(op): 11:35pm On Sep 17, 2017
A Belgian model Marisa Papen forced to spend a night in an Egyptian jail after being caught posing nude in an ancient temple has said she is determined to keep up her ‘yell for freedom’ in conservative Islamic countries.

Papen who describes herself as a ‘free-spirited and wild-hearted expressionist’, travelled with photographer Jesse Walker to North Africa for a shoot at some of the most famous landmarks of ancient Egypt.

The nude photo model, from the Flanders region of Belgium, met up in Cairo with photographer Walker who flew in all the way from Australia to do the shoot.

And even though the pair said they were aware of the cultural, political and religious differences between Egypt and the West when it comes to nudity, the adventure ended differently than they both expected.

Early in their trip during the first photoshoot near the famous pyramids of Giza, the two got into trouble.

They reportedly bribed a security guard to start the photoshoot when two other men showed up.

Papen said: ‘I was suddenly completely awake, like a cold shower at 5am in the morning.

‘We tried to explain them that we were making art with the highest respect for Egyptian culture, but they could not see a connection between nudity and art.

‘In their eyes it was porn, or something like that.’

In the end, Papen and Walker managed to stay out of trouble by bribing them with £15.

After Giza, the two travelled to Luxor to visit the vast temple complex of Karnak to shoot pictures with the theme of ‘dance’, which is where their trip unraveled.

EducationYahoo Girl Defrauds People Using Fake Facebook Account Of COOU Vice Chancellor by massmediang(op): 10:39pm On Sep 15, 2017
An unknown internet fraudster has created a fake Facebook account for the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Fidelis Okafor, using it to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Investigations revealed that the Facebook account which has existed for about six months was ignored by the institution until the fraudster used it to defraud two people, pretending to be the V.C.

It was gathered that preliminary investigations on the incident revealed that the person behind the account is a female internet fraudster (yahoo girl) as the account which those who were defrauded paid into had data traced to a girl. The phone number on the account was also called and a female voice responded before switching off and disappearing.

It was gathered that one of the victims was told to pay in some amount of money for admission purposes while the second was told to deposit an advance for laptops to be distributed to the staff. The victim was promised a laptop supply contract and was told to advance a sum which ended up in the fraudster’s account.

The Fake Facebook Account

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the University, Festus Ntomchukwu told Massmediang in an interview that the Vice Chancellor of the institution had no Facebook account. According to him: “The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fidelis Okafor does not operate any Facebook account. That thing is fake and we are advising the public to stay away from that page. We are still investigating the matter.”

Another staff of the PR Unit who spoke on the basis of anonymity said that the investigation of the matter was at advanced level. “We have contacted the bank that the victims paid in the money. The data used in opening the fraudster’s account matched that a female. When we called the phone number attached to the account a girl picked and responded briefly before switching off but efforts are at advanced level to nab the person. But for now we want people to stop commenting on that page before another person falls victim again.”
