udezue: The northern Christians have been pushed too hard against the wall so I can't condemn their new approach. Every group has the right to defend itself against threats hence you can't tell them what to do. If they have tried dialogue and got nothing then let them an eye for an eye tactic. Israeli Jews, Americans don't sit back when threatened so why should northern christians be forced to fold arms while muslims blow them to shred? Thanks for this comment. |

PXtB: When BH were throwing bombs at beer parlours in Maiduguri killing "non-believers", "believers" probably didn't see anything wrong with it and life was going on normally. When scores of Youth Corpers were brutally slaughtered after the election, no Northern leader condemned it; implying that the corpers deserved their deaths. When Osama bin Laden was killed, I know a lot of Nigerian muslims here in the UK that felt very cold and shattered. They had been holding bin Laden as a hero for unleashing terror on America and wasting innocent lives in a manner that would remain bitterly fresh in the memory of life-loving people. Now many Nigerian Muslims are falling victims of the same terrorism they had so much cherished and upheld over the years. Even muslims are deserting Maiduguri; I really wonder why. I feel it's only the remnant "non-believing" Igbos that should be running away. It's an interesting episode. A kingdom fighting against itself. Now everybody, especially muslims are calling on GEJ to do something fast. Fast indeed!!! They have branded GEJ as (1) Clueless (2) Empty-headed (3) Sleeping Giant (4) Corrupt etc etc etc for failing to act fast and solve the same problems they (muslims) accumulated over the years. Now GEJ is their scape goat; they'll be creating problems for him (GEJ) to solve for them overnight so that he'll become "Clueful". Before anybody gets me wrong on this cherished forum, I don't have any hatred against Islam. As a matter of fact, I make bold to say that I have a lot of muslims friends with whom I also discuss the ills of Islamic extremism. Of course Christianity also has extremists but there's nothing as directing extremism at killing for whatever reason. Life is precious and only the Giver of life has the power to take life. wonderful talk! Thank u. |

The more we talk about them, the more we make them appear invincible. They never care about the masses, why now? The cowards are simply telling us that they are not comfortable with JTF. It means, they're under strangulation.
Let us encourage one another and hope they'll be flushed out with time. This is one of Nigeria's many challenges. Thanks bro. Nigerians, evering thing we must complain! When boko haram was killing and giving the police hell, we complain that GEJ is not doing enough. Now he sent troops and boko animals are feeling the heat to the extent of propose a temporary ceasefire we are here complain again that he should withdraw the militery. Maybe if ur relation were blow to pieces by boko harem u may even take up arms n kill any f**k haramite. |

Donmeca: The military seem to have scored some point against BH. They want to use the removal of the JTF to regroup, plot and execute more attacks. The govt shud to give in to their demands even if they promise permanent ceasefire and ultimate surrender of arms. These guys are already afraid of the JTF, they have been badly bruised and need some kind of breathing space to regenerate. This is the time to crush them! A wounded snake bites with double venom. . . Thats what i'm saying! Thanks 4 that analysis, i which ppl could see it this way than this negotiation they are cryin about. The BH are not out 4 negotiation but to fulfill an agenda - that is, an islamic north. |

Pennywise: This lawmaker Rasaq Bello-Osagie should be arrested and a thorough investigation conducted on him and the widely held speculation that BH gets support from Nigerians occupying high office.
His statement as a public official is capable of splitting the military with catastrophic consequence for national security. If the military succeded in stamping out the menace of maitatsine what stops it from doin the same thing with another fundamentalist public nuisance?
In the meantime, the Government should enforce a news blackout for the duration of military action on BH. No mind the yeye lawmaker. We should wait for boko harem to finish us while waiting for intelligence gathering that will take a decade (u know hw Nigerian does things)? The level this boko haram issue is now the best way of defence is to attack. |

And then another country down South for us infidels.
But so long as we have all made the choice for one Nigeria, then we will learn to lead lives inconsistent with our religious beliefs. This is not rocket science, it is pure common sense.
We can't have it both ways.
I think I say the same things so many times to Southerners, especially South-Easterners on this forum. ONE Nigeria no be for mouth, it comes with a price. thank u. Help me tell them. People are using right to opinion n belief to oppress other ppl in a secular state. |

proO1: I agree with Prof Omoruyi, and I get the substance of what he was trying to say with so much tact and political correctness.
It is ridiculous and perhaps hypocritical for anyone to compare Mend and Boko Haram. MEND had a clear focus, clear agitation, and were systematic and methodical in their operations. Boko Haram on the other hand, is an amorphous rag-tag guerrilla group of rebels without a cause. As with most things northern/muslim, blind senseless rage beclouds reasoning - leading to idiotic, unsystematic extremism that is an end in itself rather than a means to an end. The result is chaos all over the place.
What exactly is Boko Haram's defining purpose? Do they even have a principal, driving motive (like MEND) other than the incredibly daft mantra that 'Western education is sin'? They want Nigeria Islamized and governed strictly according to Sharia Law (just like the Taliban in Afghanistan), is that a sensible agitation in a diverse country like Nigeria? Is there any method to such madness? Is it possible for any sane person to be sympathetic to such a pathetic group and its preposterous agitation? Boko Haram is an exemplification of the unfortunate mixture of illiteracy and Islamic extremism that bedevils northern Nigeria. As usual, they would just engage in uncoordinated and unsystematic violence without clear objectives as to what point the violence is supposed to make. How can you compare such a band of illiterate, extremist lunatics to the well-organized and sophisticated militant organization called MEND?
These fools should just be allowed to secede and form their own country so that they can talibanize themselves as much as they want. They and their people do not contribute any value to Nigeria anyway - not human nor natural resources; nothing. [/quote korrect talk! These ppl contribute NOTHING. Instead of think and pressurizing the govt on how to turn northern Nigreia to Dubar they are thinking of take us back to stone age country like afghanistan. Foolish set of ppl. I wonder wc koran dey read!ystematic extremism that is an end in itself rather than a means to an end. The result is chaos all over the place.

The Clown: Ex-Oceanic Bank MD, Cecelia Ibru, jailed • To forfeit 199 assets, N190bn By AMEACHI OGBONNA and PETER ANOSIKE Saturday, October 09, 2010 Cecelia Ibru Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section
A Federal High Court, Lagos yesterday sentenced former managing director and chief executive of Oceanic Bank Plc, Mrs. Cecelia Ibru, to 18 months imprisonment. The sentence came after Ibru pleaded guilty to counts 14, 17 and 23 of the 25 amended charges brought against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). She got six months on each of the charges, totalling 18 months. The sentence will run concurrently. However, sources said that the former bank MD had a plea bargain with the EFCC.
Count 14 of the three-count charges, which Mrs Ibru pleaded guilty to, reads: “That you, Cecilia Ibru while being the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic Bank International Plc on or about 2 August 2007, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, approved the grant of a credit facility in the sum of US$20,000,000.00 by the bank to WAVES Project Nigeria Limited, which sum was above your credit approval limit as laid down by the regulations of Oceanic Bank International Plc and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 15(1)(b) of the Failed Bank (Recovery of Debts ) and Financial Malpractices in Banks Act Cap F2 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 16(1) (a) of the same Act.”
In the judgment, Justice Dan Abutu also ordered that the former bank chief forfeits 199 assets and funds worth over N190 billion. The assets are to be managed by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). Mrs Ibru was first arraigned on a 23-count charge on August 31, 2009, and remanded in EFCC custody till September 14, 2009 when she was granted bail by the court. The charges were later amended to 25, in February 2010, bordering on criminal manipulation of bank records and depositors’ funds. In December 2009, the EFCC obtained an interim forfeiture order on the assets of Mrs. Ibru from a Federal High Court, Lagos.
Shortly before her full trial resumed on Tuesday, October 5, Mrs. Ibru had sought to forfeit her assets, in a plea bargain arrangement. Reacting to the judgment, chairman of the EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, commended the teams that handled the investigation and prosecution of Mrs. Ibru’s case. He charged every stakeholder in the war against graft to reinforce their commitment, so that there could be greater results soon. Waziri said: “This is an indication that we are making progress in the war against graft in the country. But we can still achieve greater results when all stakeholders reinforce their commitment to the crusade.”
Ibru was eased out by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) along with five other bank chief executives, in line with the recommendations of a CBN/NDIC special audit team that reviewed the financial status of the affected banks. She was accused of using some companies to acquire over 64 million shares in Union Bank of Nigeria valued at 64, 218,000; 93 million shares in the United Bank for Africa for N93, 750, 000; Oceanic Bank Plc, N1, 076, 220, 421 worth of shares. Other acquisitions include 13 million shares in Oando, for N13, 200,000 and another 388 million units of shares in other companies as well as 600 million shares in BGL Plc.
Another company linked to Ibru, Prisky Gold, was allegedly used to purchase 48.8 million shares in Access Bank Plc; 8, 140, 500 shares in Dangote Flour; 12, 480, 000 shares in Dangote Sugar Refinery; 12, 500, 000 shares in Fidelity Bank, 27, 434, 791 shares in First Bank; 25, 316, 400 shares in Japaul Oil; 10, 280,000 shares in Zenith Bank and 200,000,000 shares in Transcorp Plc. This is a good one. It seems the anticorruption war is taking its root gradually. Let other corrupt persons especially politicians learn from cecila. They should learn to accept guilt and pay restitution to the country and d citizen. |
