Nairaland GeneralRe: Tricks You Played On Your Parents And Got Away With As A Child. by masterpiecer(m): 10:52am On Sep 27, 2012
engrchux: I remember my uncle's wife catching me red-handed watching po(r)nography aka mojo on my uncle's VHS video cassette player in his sitting room. She eJected the cassette & seized it as physical evidence to present to my uncle when he returned from work. She didn't like me much then cos I was so mischievous. I was so troubled & time was ticking very fast, with every second bringing me nearer to the consequence; my uncle was already a retired Major as at the time. Anyways I kept targeting the cassette she kept in her handbag which was on the dining table, praying 4 her to loose guard. The opportunity came & she did, she fell into a nap on the long couch in the sitting room. I quickly retrieved the cassette, screwed it open, removed the mojo tape inside & replaced it with musical video tape of snoop dogg, warren G, Salt & Pepper, TLC & all the reigning artistes of the 1994 era, by so doing the title & look of the cassette was the same on the outside but the content had miraculously changed on the inside. Then I quietly returned it back to her handbag. Lol. My uncle eventually returned & she narrated the story backed up with evidence , only 4 her to insert the cassette & Snoop dogg was rapping. She fast forwarded, rewind, stopped, ejected, confirmed it was the same cassette she seized, re-inserted etc. The worst they saw where some gals in bum shorts dancing & shaking their booties. Lol.
My uncle got furious with her & started attacking her that she's always wanting to cause wahala in the house with his people & she felt like a fool & a liar. Lol
this is the badest trick ever on this threadshocked, guy u r completely baaaaaaaaadtttgrin.

LiteratureRe: Do Animals Think?? by masterpiecer(m): 6:35am On Sep 27, 2012
all4naija: It depends on the level of thinking. I believe animals can process information mainly based on instinct. In that regards I would say they don't think but can process and repeat what they have been trained to do. So, animals don't think, they act based on instincts.

Online definition of think is the belief(which animals can not do other than humans) , opinion and idea on something or somebody, generally. It means there has to be reason to understand what a particular idea or opinion(we know that animals don't have opinions) is about and find a way to accept it. It is an act where the things which differentiate humans from the animals are really intertwined, like spirituality(in general sense), ability to read and write, share ideas about something, etc. Thinking really helps in those areas and it is an ability which animals lack.

ANIMALS DON'T THINK!
The problem with this debate is that most of us are comparing the thinking faculty of animals with humans, no, they are not the same or close at all, but because the thinking faculty of animals is not as complex as human's, dosen't mean animals don't think.

Now let me ask u this;
Wouldn't the act of a todler who can read just A B C, and an adult who can read an encyclopeadia be termed as 'reading'?, of cause yes, they both can read, but because the adult's brain is more develope than the child, he can read better than the todler, but that dose not imply that the todler cannot read rather the todler's ability to read is not as enhanced as the adult's. Same thing applies to the thinking faculty of animals and humans.

Animals think, but not in a complex form like humans.

adefash: i like the way you statrted your post by saying you would like to believe that animals think for so so reason. We can not ascertain that they think or otherwise but we can infer from what we think they do since we have not been in their forms before, at least i have not been an animal before.
Back to your points, i like your analysis because they are very educative. But from what you have analysed so far cannot possibly say thats how thinking comes up.if every elephant will return to die where their parents or companions were buried, and no one will think he should do something different, i dont think thats thinking, its stereotypic. What i am saying is that in human, we can choose where to be buried, which hospitals to go, which school to go,who to have sex with, which food to eat for known reasons. These reasons are products of thinking.you may not know what to expect from the next person to you always but you can predict what a dog will do 100 times whenever he see a stranger, you can predict where an elephant will return to die 100 times provided he knows where his parents were buried, you can predict 100times what a dolphine will do whenever he feels like having sex. You cant predict these 100 times in human. A man who loves having sex may not want to have sex with the available ladies around because they are not his tastes. I think this is what we call "thinking".lions dont eat animals not killed by them. You can predict this 1000000 times. This is not thinking, its a hard-coded programe which differs from animal to animal. You may train a dog,as you claimed,to do calculations, computers do calculations as well and we cant say it is thinking, the trained do you trained 1+1=2 can never tell you $1+$1=$2, but a man you teach 1+1=2 could tell the answer to the second question.
Conclusion: from my own view, animals cannot think.
I wouldn't say much but i hope ur view might change by this:

Have you ever wondered why it is easy to trick and catch a much younger animal than an adult animal?
if u believe animals act on instincts as u claim, then every animal, whether young or old would act the same without exhibiting any form of mental development attained as they grow older.

Can a new born monkey act like an adult monkey? no. It would only be possible if they really act on instinct because the new born wouldn't need any form of mental development achieved over years before it would start acting like an adult monkey, rather it would just start acting like an adult from birth due to ur 'instinct theory'.

What does dis implies?, their brains developes as they grow older, just like it is easy to trick a child than an adult, when humans grows, the brain developes, likewise, when a dog grows, its brain developes also and that developed brain carries some certain functions- thinking!

NB- Instincts/stimuli are products of the brain triggered subconsciously
