PoliticsRe: Dear Seun, Your "Rule 9" Is Against Social Justice And Democratic Tenet by MathsChic(f): 5:27am On Dec 11, 2015
IamLEGEND1:
The idea was never the issue. NL is a forum first and foremost and you wouldn't believe the number of decent threads derailed totally by 'E-warriors'.

So someone comes in,sees the back and forth between the 'warriors' and just leaves....as you would guess, that is bad for business. a lot of people's minds gets affected by what they read online and think what you may of them but they matter in the grand scheme of things.together, they are lots of traffic lost.

so i think the 'idea' has a very massive snowball effect on everything on here than most(all) of us might realize.
But why don't you just compare this with what twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other american social networking sites are doing. Isis sympathizers are never banned, suppressed, nor is their speech regulated. Nairaland's owner actually risks executing exactly what the senators are being accused of in their social media bill: silencing free speech.
I'm sure you were up in arms against the senators' idea as well.
Don't you think it would make sense for YouTube or Facebook to ban or regulate Isis and boko haram videos, or issue bans on users who declare support for their cause? But certainly, they wouldn't do that, as it amounts without doubt to opinion regulation, especially on such a massive and free platform as the internet.

We need to look at this carefully. Not just from what's good or bad for business, but for what's good or bad for freedom. The few people peddling rhetorics can always be banned. Speech regulation is no good thing.

I saw this disheartening picture this evening and I am like "can it ever get better"?

Are there no better project topics anymore??

We have a lot of responsibilities on our hands to change what the international communities think about us!

Lalasticlala, can u imagine!
There is nothing disheartening about it. There have been projects and hundreds of books about the Italian mafia or the japanese Yakuza. These are phenomena in countries, same as Nigeria's corruption phenomenon. Ain't nothing wrong in it.

And if they are spewing hate, ban the hate mongers, but not the idea. Everyone is entitled to freedom of expressing an idea.
PoliticsRe: Dear Seun, Your "Rule 9" Is Against Social Justice And Democratic Tenet by MathsChic(f): 11:16pm On Dec 10, 2015
TonyeBarcanista:
Let me first apologise for posting this on this section. This is because I have been restricted from posting on politics section due to ban given to me by one of your moderators.

The purpose of this thread is to call the attention of the Founder of Nairaland, Mr Seun Osewa over his decision to 'ban' the promotion of Biafran agitation on Nairaland.com. As most of us know, Rule 9 has been amended by the owner to reflect on the ban. Quoting the rule...

Though I am neither an Igboman nor one of the promoters of Biafra, I couldn't help but express displeasure in the rule because it violates Article 2 of United Nations Resolution on Self Determination (1960), Sections 35, 39 and 42 of the Constitution of Nigeria and also is in conflict with the principle of Social justice.

For avoidance of doubt, article 2 of the UN Resolution on Self-Determination states that...

All peoples have the right to self-determination; by virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.

It clearly states that people should FREELY determine their status and freely pursue it.
The decision of Mr Seun has contravened this paragraph and it is not something we should celebrate.

Furthermore, Nigeria Constitution guarantee some rights to every citizen and group. Some of which include;

1. Right to personal liberty (Section 35): Every person is entitled to personal liberty.

2. Right to freedom of Expression (Section 39): Right to freedom of expression and the press is very fundamental to the sustenance of democracy

3. Right to freedom from discrimination (Section 42): No citizen of Nigeria shall be discriminated against on the basis of his community, ethnic group, place of origin, sex, religion or political opinion

All the aforementioned rights have been taken away by the amended rule 9 of Nairaland.com. Additionally, the decision of Mr Seun also contravenes the principle of social justice. For avoidance of doubt, Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities.

While I have been at the receiving end of some pro-Biafrans promoters in terms of insults and abuse, it won't make me to support what I know is against their fundamental right as Nigerians and citizens of the world.

It will be more appropriate for the moderators to take down content by agitators of Biafra that promotes hate, violence and support arson. However, they deserve the right to be expressive. Those of us that believe in a Nigeria will not hesitate to engage promoters of Biafra movement intellectually if it comes to that stage.

Yes, we love promoters of Biafrans and some people don't want the Igbo nation or any other nation to secede but it is inappropriate to shut their voices. We have to uphold the tenet of democracy in promoting our unity.

May God Bless Us All and Bless Nigeria.
I agree a 100%. You don't deprive people the right to express themselves, as long as they are not spewing hate.

Quit thinking Nigerian. American presidential candidates, unlike the Nigerian ones you know, don't set up terrorist activities or Boko Haram campaigns in order to curry votes.

This isn't popular opinion. This whole Trump thing is a charade playing itself out. I'm yet to meet an actual Trump supporter, and I live in the armpit of Repub territory. Where are these people? I would very much like to put a face to his audience, lol.
There are indeed many supporters, both hardliners and conservatives. They just won't tell you. At least, the polls show that much.

This comment should be on all job recruitment websites. Nigerian graduates are ENTITLED & LAZY!

Always looking for ways to laze around and cut corners, never putting in their best. I worked in d UK for a while. Work hours are strict and if ur late being at ur desk after lunch, u face disciplinary measures. (And im an accountant, not working on a production line dt is time sensitive).
And no one complains, they're all used to it. You see teenagers on the train at 6am on their way to work. They've built a strong work ethic from a young age.
I hear the chinese even have a stronger work ethic. Nigerians DT have grown old in universities & have nothing in their heads, will be busy whining & complaining abt every single thing. You see their disgusting attitude everywhere around this country, from govt workers to teachers, even in banks where they seat on their ass all day.
Both of your comments should be on all job sites in Nigeria. Can't be better said.
The strong entitlement Nigerian graduate feel is overwhelming. Even for a country that is not a noted manufacturer of things, nor a technologically advanced economy.

I like the harmonic sound inherent in it when it is particularly used to play hymns and folklore. It also has an anticipatory progression and a good rise and fall rhythm that makes one want to listen to the next line of sound.

Always suprising how you women are quick to take the side of the accused abusers against your own sex.

I remember when Frank Edoho's ex-wife came out to say that she has been battered and beaten for years. 90% of the comments attacking her came from women.

It is a strange thing, to lust after another woman's husband so much that you tend to demonize the woman.
Good point. They do that for fear of being feminist sympathizers and that's actually very bad.

Emeka & Nkiru were taking a romantic walk down the beach one cool night.
Emeka grabs Nkiru's hands, draws her close to him, kisses her & says, "Baby!
You know I
so much love you. There's no one here. It's just us. Let's do WEEWEE CHU.
"Nkiru looks around & says,
"My love, I don't want to do WEEWEE CHU please. Let's just hold hands &
cuddle. "Emeka agrees.
After a while, Emeka asks her again, "Oh baby! Please my love! Let's do
WEEWEE CHU! "Nkiru replies: "Baby'm, don't rush me. I don't want to do it. I
just want to be wrapped in your arms. "Emeka calms down.
After a longer while, Emeka can't hold it any longer. He says, "My swit heart,
its not fair oh! Let's do WEEWEE CHU nah! Since LAST year oh!" Nkiru
reluctantly agrees! So Emeka immediately grabs her closer to him, hugs her
tight, brought out the guitar strapped to his back & they both start singing:

Jobs/VacanciesRe: On What Basis Does One Get Regret Mail After Medicals? by MathsChic(f): 12:01pm On Dec 03, 2015
Failing the medicals, which could have a test for the use of drugs.
Latent TB.
Fitness to work. If unfit, you can't be on the job.
Some jobs require special conditions, like not having respiratory allergies or problems.
Every company should not discriminate against employees who test +ve for HIV, as that's not allowed by law. Some companies however do.

Mostly also, they want to know if they should be worried about employing you. Some deadly diseases are contagious, e.g TB, and companies are not going to employ you if u have such diseases.

I was tested for Hepatitis, TB, Typhiod, And a couple other sundry tests. But not HIV. Of course, I passed all cheesy but i failed the eye test woefully. That didnt affect me since the job doesnt require that.
