Teensmentor:
For those asking for my transcript, here it is. Before I go on, I would like to state that I am the student whose spouse is already in the US on an f1 visa (Ph.D.)

VISA APPROVED
Interview Day: May, 2022. (This week)
Course: Ph.D. in Computer Engineering
School: an R1 school in the US
Funding: 100% fee waiver and half TA (about 13,000 USD)
Deficit: about 12,000 USD

Also note: I initially applied for an f2 visa in october 2021 after my spouse left (as we got married legally after his interview before he left) so when I got an offer for my Ph.D., I filled out a new DS160 form for an f1 visa instead. This was advised by the customer service representative I called. So long story short, I used my f2 slot for my f1 visa.

After my thumbprint and document check, I walked to the VO window.

VO: Good morning, please pass me your document.
I pass the document and they scan it.
VO: So why are you going for a Ph.D. in Computer engineering, that must be wow.
Me: I am going for a Ph.D. at the University of Bleep because I want to advance my career and it is the right time for me. I recently finished my Masters's degree in Data Science from Bleep University in the UK and I learned soso and so. That has prepared me for research in Machine Learning (ML) and I want to go deeper.

Additionally, while researching the schools, I came across Prof. Bleep work on mental health; using ML to predict depression from mobile phone data and it caught my attention specifically because a close family member suffered from mental health challenge and left home in 2018 unaware of her present environment (AKA she went missing). With my research, I want to be able to use ML to detect patterns in patients' data or data such as smartphone data for early detection of mental health challenges and other medical diseases and to connect patients to healthcare quickly before their ailment gets worse.

(At the point where I mentioned a family member suffering from depression, she left what she was typing and was looking straight into my eyes. she was listening attentively like I said something that touched her. )

Additionally, I have funding from the school that waives my tuition.

At this point, they cut in and ask.

VO: who is paying for your fees?
Me: I have funding that waives 100% of my tuition and covers a part of my living expenses. (cuts in and say you have a Teaching Assistantship looking at my DS160 I guess from the screen)

I continue: Yes TA. I will also be covering the other part of the funding from my personal savings.

VO: How did you come about the savings?
Me: I worked at Bleep during my master's and was able to save up some money during that time.

VO: oh so you had a scholarship for your masters and saved up some funds? That's impressive.
Me: yes

VO: are you married?
ME: yes

Vo: what happens to your family?
Me: Oh, my spouse is currently doing his Ph.D. in the same school at the Bleep department on f1 visa.

VO: do you have any kids?
Me: not yet.

VO: I can see you have a j1 visa before, what was it for?
Me: Yes, I participated in Bleep exchange program sponsored by the US government at University of Bleep in Bleep year.

VO: But you have a 2 years residency clause

(two years of residency means I am meant to be in Nigeria for at least 2 years after the exchange program before applying for an H1 visa or permanent residency visa and some others. I only researched about it after I left the interview. I knew I had that 2 years stuff but from my knowledge, it didn't affect f1 visa plus I had done 2 years in Nigeria cumulatively)

At this point, I was dumbfounded. was confused because I never thought this would be an issue. VO goes on to ask me where I did my master's and when I came back. responded that it was in the UK and I got back early last year.

VO: That is not up to 2 years then. Tell me again, when did you come back from the US, and when did you go for your masters and return.
Me: Gives precise dates of when I came back.

VO: but you've been in Nigeria since then right? and you were in Nigeria after your exchange program before your masters?

Me: Yes.

Vo took a pen and wrote all the travel details down. Did some calculations and told me they would get back to me. went inside with these details. at this point, I was already speaking in tongues cos by my calculation, I stayed about 13 months after my exchange program before going for my master's and have spent about 15 months in Nigeria since my master's.

VO comes back shortly still looking at some documents, and types some things on their computer. Oh, I forgot to add that they were typing all through my interview except when I mentioned my family member's health challenge. Then I noticed Vo picking up a white paper and says.

VO: Your visa has been approved, you will need this paper for so so and so.

At this point, I was overjoyed. Was smiling from inside my mask lol.

Me: would that be all?
VO: yes, congratulations again and wish you a safe trip.

Me: thank you. Walks out of the interview room and took a deep breath of relief.

SOME TIPS THAT MY EXPERIENCE TAUGHT ME
1. Be honest. Don't hide information and lie about things and think they won't figure it out.

2. Take your time to fill out your DS160 form. Again don't lie here. They know all these things. If you have been denied before also state it and give reasons. I have never been denied a visa but I didn't fill in my j1 status on my DS160 form as there was no provision for that but they somehow knew cos they have the details in their system.

3. If you have a gap say employment or study gap, be truthful about it and explain why. Try to give a logical and convincing explanation of why. Don't just say I have been looking for work and didn't find it. lol.
I haven't been in full-time employment since I returned however, I have been taking some courses to prepare for my Ph.D. and also published a book, and got married within that 15 months. Additionally, I had taken up some contract jobs for some well known organisations both in Nigeria and outside the country within this time. Those are the explanations I gave for being unemployed.

4. Don't falsify documents or lie about your status of something. They will definitely find out by asking you an unexpected question and since you haven't planned how to respond to back up the lie, you will just be stammering lol.

5. Arrive early. I arrived an hour before my interview and from all the screenings straight to the interview, I spent less than an hour. So, before my interview time, I was already done with the interview.

6. For those who are married to a spouse in the US, don't hide this information. Just say it as it is. It would most likely not affect you if they are there legally except of course yáll have ulterior motives and they will still find out anyways.

sorry for the long story. Lol. I am a writer so don't blame me. *covers face*

Beautiful!!!! Congratulations dear.

Good Morning All, I have been denied US visa like 3 times now. Infact i have given up on it right now and maybe try other countries that i can go for my masters. I just want to share my transcript so that people can learn from my experience.

First intervew
Abuja Nov 9 2021

Course: Management Information Systems ( conditional Admission so a bachelor's degree I-20 was issued because of one prerequisite management course that i needed to do).

School: UIS: COA: 35k

VO: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning
VO: Have you travelled out before?
Me: No, this will be my first time
VO: What is your highest level of qualification?
Me: Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering
VO: Why are you going for a second degree?
Me: It is a conditional admission. i'm actually going for a master degree( I was jittery in this part because the question caught me unaware). I'm required to write a course before i can get full admission
VO: Okay Okay
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, I'm single
VO: who is going to be your sponsor?
Me: My Father:
VO: What does he do?
Me: He is a businessman with investment in agriculture and real estate ( Again i was stuttering through this part)
VO: Farming?
Me: Yes
VO: Do you have any relative in the US?
Me: No
VO: I'm sorry you are not qualified for visa , brought the Blue paper.

for the first timers. Make sure you prepare very very well and make sure you are always truthful in your DS 160. I actually have close relatives in the USA.I don't really communicate with them often. I listened to people advise and decided not to include them in my DS-160. It is better to just include it. Please avoid any conditional admission. I actually got admitted in 4 schools but UIS admission decision came very early. You must try as much as possible to nail your first interview

Second Interview:

December 1st
Lagos: Surge Dates things

School: Bowie State University COA 23k

Course: Management Information System ( Unconditional Admission)

VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I'm going to the US to pursue masters degree in Management information system at bowie state university Maryland.
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: 3 schools ( I mentioned the schools)
VO: How many gave you admission?
Me: All the 3
VO: Who is your sponsor:
Me: My Father. He is a businessman with Investment in agriculture and real estate. He has landed properties in Lagos, Ekiti, Port harcourt, Oyo and Ogun state.

The VO is actually a nice woman, She approved visa for lot of students that day. I guess my first interview really messed me up. The moment the woman asked you to talk to her like a friend. Just be sure that she is ready to approve your visa but you must convince her. She wanted to approve a guy visa that day but the guy couldn't convince her about his sponsor. The guy said his mother does Ajo ( Cooperative Contribution)

3rd Interview

May 12 Abuja (In my mind i was like if this one no work. na to say bye bye to USA. I no fit kill myself because of the stressed that i passed through that day. I had to travel across four states before i get to lagos and fly to Abuja)

Nothing changed in terms of schools and course. I just defered my admissions. I applied to MTSU but got denied. I got promoted at work and also had a change of Job role.

Before i got interviewed, One woman got denied. The woman almost scattered embassy that day ooo. She was just shouting that they must tell her the reason she was denied and she won't leave until someone explained to her. She said she has travelled to US more than 25 times and all her kids are citizens. They called like 6 security personnels for the woman but she no gree at all. It was until one nice american woman came to talk to her. That was when she decided to leave. Anyway. It was the same Visa Officer that denied the woman that also interviewed me. grin

VO: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I'm going to the US to pursue masters degree in Management information system at bowie state university Maryland.
VO: Why did you choose the school?
Me: I chose the school because it is affordable and because of my research plans which is based on restructuring the power industry in nigeria using information technology. I will be working with professor Azene zenebe whose research focus are based on information systems security, crime in electronic business solution and business intelligence and data mining. This will help me to achieve my aim of revamping the power industry in Nigeria. I'm currently working in the power industry and i know the problems we are facing ( VO cuts in)
VO: You started working there one months ago?
Me: No Sir. I actually got promoted and also had a change of Job role. I have been working there for 4 years I was formerly ....... now I'm ..........
VO: Okay. Sorry about that. I didn't see that
Me: So i continue with my explanation on why i chose the schools. I can't remember what i said but the VO was just nodding his head
VO: Who is your sponsor?
Me: My dad. He is a businessman with investment in agriculture and real estate. He started a feedmill factory about 15 years ago when he retired from Nigeria Customs Service. He has about 3 properties in Oyo State, He is living in one of the properties while the other two are being managed by me and twin brother. His properties in lagos is managed by my elder sister. He was typing when i was saying these.
VO: He just brought out that dreaded blue paper and gave it to me. Infact USA consulate don dey make me hate anything blue. Blue used to be my favorite color but not anymore. The color don break my heart too much. I wasn't really heart broken compare to the first time because i sacrificed a lot of things that first time. I did everything possible to get the visa. I wrote GRE, Duolingo and also did wes. I applied to several schools but I believed my time has not come yet. So i will take a break from anything USA for now and focus on my career. Thanks everyone. God bless you

Be strong brother. I love your courage. God will do it at his own time. Just believe. Be strong!!!

hosey:

You are 100 percent right. Even, UK students flee from OXFORD and CAMBRIDGE because of the exorbitant school fees.

There is no difference in UK, EU and International fees in some courses and tuition is close to 50000 pounds and their MBA is close to 70000 pounds

For example: https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/courses/msc-financial-economics (close to 50000 pounds and same fees for all students)

https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/courses/mba#content-tab--4
(For MBA close to 70000 pounds and same fees for all students).

So this is why most UK students choose other great schools like University of Birmingham, University of Manchester, University of Leeds e.t.c as they consider UK students discount. UK employers are aware of these. Chinese and Arab affluent students dominate Oxford and Cambridge because they can afford it.

So forget about ranking. Choose schools base on your finance, career and motivation (check the course breakdown). Focus on personal skills and certification relevant to the job. All these are considered for job.

For example, people with Project Management and Accounting professional certifications without respective degrees but with relevant experience are mostly considered for the project management and accounting job than those with only Masters and PhD degree in the Accounting and Project Management irrespective of the school you attend.

So focus on your self development and forget about any ranking.

So how do get the experience if you don't have a job? How do you go about developing yourself if you still don't have a job? It's all the same for anyone who just finished his or her bachelor's degree and head up for a Master's degree without pre- job experience in his or her field. For this group of people, I think where one studies matters a lot. Those schools has partners, that's companies whom they are partnering with. In addition, you see many of these schools boost on their website that their students get jobs three months after graduation, some even boost that their student get the job while on their studies. While all these boosting? I, as a management student can't compare a degree obtained in HEC Paris, Insead, Lese Business School, Warwick Business School, Bayes, Mannheim etc. with a degree obtained in Granada Spain, Pradua Italy, Glasgow Caledonian Scotland, and University College London, England etc. Those schools are ranked amongst the top business school in FT, QS, and other recognised university ranking NGOs. Also, getting admitted to those schools is something else. Some will require a mandatory GMAT score of 700 and above while others will consider an average of 650. English proficiency is mandatory for students from none English speaking countries with a least score quoted on their website for any interest of study. Thus, after one must have passed through all these, he or she needs to be respected because it not easy. Am not saying that other schools aren't doing well but there are differences between the two. Even they (Employers) do look at those factors when hiring.

VOs dont make any judgement on your case without an interview first. so tell me how they know abt giving him the visa. So since you say the read through his profile, do you know how many ppl profiles they will memorize? or please explain how they make the judgement bfr the interview. lol cos it makes no sense

I said presumably. Remember that your data are there on their database when you fill out whatsoever you are filling, so presumably, they might check through your profile before hand. That's my understanding. I stand to be corrected please, am still a newbie in this US visa stuff.

VISA INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT

Interview Date: 6th May, 2022
Location: Abuja
Funding: Fully funded
First Attempt
Program: PhD Biological Scinece
School: University of Illinois
Status: *Approved*✅

VO: Good morning

Me: Morning sir (I didn't hear what he said very well, I passed my i-20 and passport

VO: Have you travelled before?

Me: Not at all

VO: Do your capturing

Me: I did my biometric capture

VO : Why did you choose UI?

Me : In my search for universities offering combination of Molecular Biology and Neurobiology, I came across UI as one of the best schools offering the double. However, being the only public research university at Chicago, UI offers me the laboratory research experience I need.

VO: What do you do?

Me: I am University lecturer at so so University, where i currently teach ... (He has already started typing while I focus my eyes on cimpletely on his eyeballs and whenever he looked at my direction, he saw my face looking relaxed).

VO: What is your plan after this program?

Me: I will be coming back to Nigeria to continue my lecturing job.

VO: Are you married?

Me: ( I didn't hear this one very well, so I asked him to repeat himself like 3 times). Yes

VO: When was that?

Me: 2018

VO: Is your wife going with you?

Me: She will be coming to visit

VO kept typing and after asked again, you said your wife will be visiting you

Me: Yes please, she will be visiting.

I didn't even hear what VO was saying at a point though (other VOs were speaking louder but then I knew he wasn't asking me any question.
The guy stood up to go to paper side, there were three types of paper. The blue, the white and the yellow paper in that order. As he reached out for the white I knew it's approval.
He then attached the white paper to my i-20 and gave me
I only heard pick your passport bla bla bla, and I said thank you

PS: Pray well
Be bold (probably be singing or speaking in tongues quietly before your time so that you charge your vocal system before you are called)
Eye contact must be 100%
Don't rush to answer any question, particularly the ones you didn't hear well.
Ask the VO to repeat the questions you either did not hear well or your brain couldn't immediately get an answer to, it is also a strategy to quickly gather a good response rather than stammering and saying rubbish (I asked VO to repeat a question 3 times when I didn't hear him). Amount of words you say do not matter, it is in the substance of your response
Know your story very well, any question can be asked in any order
Don't tell plenty story, no time. Say the most important things first and be as brief as possible
Please go to the embassy early (they don't check your appointment time before they interview you, but it saves you emotional and physical stress if you go there early)

VO didn't ask about my funding. He already saw that in my i-20. No document was also requested for except the i-20 i gave him.

I wasn't even eager to answer any question like that. Once I respond and he nods his head and start typing, I keep quiet and focus on him so that I won't say what I'm not supposed to say

All the best guys

I decided to share, since I have benefitted from other people experiences too

Congratulations! Your case has nothing to do with denial. You have full funding, you are a lecturer with experience and what again. To my understanding, the visa approval and denial thing is a kind of presage. VO's already know ahead of time if you getting the visa or not. Probably, they read through your profile before even you standing before them for the interview.
Once again congratulations!

Urgent please, can anyone explain this to me. Concerning the evidence of fund, what does the embassy mean by this:
Documents proving sufficient funds to cover his/her living expenses in the Czech Republic - a bank statement of the applicant for the last three months must be submitted along with a debit card, which may used for accessing these funds in the Czech Republic.

More concern about the debit card to access the funds in the Czech Republic.

Naira debit cards cannot access this money there. Does it mean that one has to open a dorm account and fund it with foreign currency and use the same for the application. Please who can explain this to me.

Please, for those who have received their visa or already in Czechia how did you go about this. Please is very urgent. Thank you

EASY WAY TO SEARCH FOR SCHOOL IN USA
Pick a state
lookup the state on Wikipedia
go to education on the state wiki page

then the list of universities

all the schools in the state will be displayed then look them up one after the other for your interest and need very simple

don't forget to have your pen and paper handy

You can also use edurank.org. I think this is easiest site to look up for school around the globe, subject areas and others. The wonderful thing is that the link to the school websites are there. Just check it out.

Hello my great people!
Please, am new here. I have read through some pages on this forum and was astonished with every information, answers, and pieces of advice provided by the gurus of the house.
Please, I need your advice and suggestions on this!
I intend to apply for September intake Msc in one of the prodigy supported universities in UK. I have checked my eligibility through their site by answering some of the questions they asked and they said that I qualify for the loan covering my tuition fee and living cost. But I want them to fund my tuition fee only while I cover my living cost and other expenses including some materials for my studies.
Please brothers and sisters, what are the possibilities that this will land me the student visa? Has anyone used student loan to do this before? Are there any testimonies? In my case, what is your advice?
Please help a brother.
Thank you and God bless!

Greetings everyone cry

I am so devastated and I do not know if this situation can be savaged.

We all know how difficult it is to get appointment date but I finally got it. So, I got a mail from my school on the 30th of September, 2021, telling g me I would resume late and I should accept online classes and even if my visa was denied I will not get back 50% of my tuition fee.

I replied the mail telling g them I will not enrol for online classes due to our epileptic power and poor data, I would prefer to have my visa first.

Then, on the 10th of October I was sent a mail to signs some documents as it is required for my matric. And I signed and scanned back to them. Little did I know they will use it as a medium to take 50% of my tuition fee(4000 euros)

Then I was denied my visa and I appealed and I was denied again. I wrote to the school informing them of a denial and I need I tuition fee back and they said since I signed the educational documents I am automatically enrolled into the system and I will only be entitled to 50% of my money.

Please no insults as I am already broken as it is. I borrowed the money with the hope of working and paying when I get to Poland. I do not know how I am going to refund the 50% they are about to collect.

Please I need advice. Can I fight them? Can I win this? Please what can I do because I am so scared

So sorry dear. Your case is complicated, the school documents you signed will make it difficult for you to get a full refund. For example, there was a video I watched on YouTube, a student studying in Germany booked a return flight to Ghana from Germany during December holiday last year, due to Omicron variant, her return flight was cancelled by the company. When she applied for refund, they couldn't refund her 100% pay, but instead it was about 40% of the money she paid. In your case, you have already signed a contract with the school, probably the school have terms and conditions for such contract, maybe you didn't read the terms and conditions, and that is where their legal basis lies. To get your full pay will be difficult. You just have to go with the 50% and sort out how you gonna make it up to pay your creditor.

May God's name be praised. I picked up my passport today at VI TLS.

Applied to 4 schools and got offers from them: Coventry, London Metropolitan University (offers in 2 courses), Middlesex University and Glasgow Caledonian University. Paid deposit to Middlesex as I got their offer 3 days after applying (October 7). I did 3 pre-CAS interviews and I was proud of my performance but was denied CAS because of my study gap (7 years). Applied for refund of 4500 pounds deposit (got refunded just last week since December).

Had to find a way of paying 3000 deposit for London Metropolitan University and applied for CAS in December. Got my CAS, January 6. No interviews. They are probably the fastest with CAS once you get your documents ready. You can get CAS in 3 days once they verified your payment.

Visa Application Jan 10th
Biometrics VI TLS Jan 18th
Paid mail February 7th Decision made
Collection mail February 7th
Passport collection February 8th
Documents submitted- Degree Certificate, Transcript, IELTS, POF, CAS, TB Certificate, Introduction letter, no NSF despite 7 years of study gap.

Went through a whole lot during this period. Already gave up hope as my school gave me 14th February as latest day for me to be the UK and they already advised me to defer till September but the good Lord came through for me.

What kept me going during it all was someone's testimony on Part 7 when she said her bible verse for prayer was Ephesians 3 vs 20. Since that day in early January, I wake up every night to pray and use the verse as point of contact with God. He answered my prayers.

I'll be in London this week as God lives and I am not sure I'll be able to hold my tears at Heathrow when I get to hug my eldest brother for the first time since 2002 when he left Nigeria. Man Sponsored everything.

I am crying as I'm typing this. I've gone through a lot.

May the good Lord grant favour to each and everyone of you still waiting on him as regards visa application, he will surely do it. You only need to believe.

Thank you Nairaland. You guys are all amazing. Words alone cannot describe the lives you guys have changed here. Let's keep the flag flying. [/quote

Congratulations dear, your story is amazing, to God be the glory!!!!!

See a Nigerian, your fellows has been here asking "has anyone gotten appointment with the embassy", you who has gotten it, kept silent, now that you have had issue on your interview, you remembered the forum for solution. That is selfishness, share your information. Assuming you have opened up to this forum that you going for your interview, please house any tips for a successful interview, maybe you may have been referred to some pages in this forum, where you will be well equipped for the questions and guidance on how to go about some certain things, or someone would have guild you on some certain things, but you keep it to yourself. Also, assuming you were successful, I doubt that you would have told us that, talk less of sharing your interview transcript. Let's learn not to be selfish. For 2022/2023 Academic session, they will announce the procedures and any other information you need to know between April and May while the main application starts by June. If you really want to apply, you have to start preparing your documents, like authentication and legalisation. You can email the international office for any questions that might be personal.

Are you asking this questions for asking sake? Cuz if you really got a loan from Mpower the repayment of principal & interest is spread up to 15years. So I don’t understand your question

Dude, don't confuse yourself and those you need guidance from. You said that the loan is $35,000 and you are paying in naira after your studies, because you gonna be working here and paying back the money with 20% of your salary for the period of ten years. Now if we do the maths, though I can't discern now what your actual salary will be by then. Now, $35,000 with current CBN exchange rate is 415. Thus, 35000 * 415 = 14,525,000. The period of ten years gave us 120 months, meaning that you gonna be paying 121,041.6667 every month for the period of ten years, (14,525,000 ÷ 120). This only gave the principal amount of $35000 equivalent to 14,525,000 in Naira. If the principal and interest are there, you didn't specify it, because you said that the loan is $35,000. Reason this also, incase they want to do the math and ask you how much will you be earning after your studies. You will be earning 121,041.667 * 5 = 605,208.335. Check if that is possible for you as a young graduate in the Nigerian financial institute without at least CFA which can edge you to a managerial position, because currently, according to glassdoor, average salary for financial analyst in Nigeria is about 200,000 naira. Consider how you gonna convince your VO.

The repayment of the loan will start after the completion of my Msc program which 20% of my salary will be used as repayment for 10years period and in the event of default my bank and employer signed an indemnity agreement to off set my pension and benefits to the loan company as repayment.

What about interest, is there no interest charged you for the loan. That's another thing you need to consider.
