Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Tuesday told the House of Representatives that the government decided to ban the operations of twitter in Nigeria because it was promoting instability and act of terrorism in the country. The Minister who spoke at a public hearing on the Twitter ban organised by a joint Committee of the House said despite repeated reminders, twitter continued to provide separatist groups the platform to promote terrorism in the country. He said the decision of the government was supported by the position of section 45 of the 1999 constitution, the Company and Allied Matters Act and also the anti-terrorism act among others. He said the twitter also provided IPOB, an organization that was banned by the Court in Nigeria the platform to spread hate news and ordering the killing of soldiers, policemen and burning public institutions. On the issue of personal liberty, he explained that personal liberty can always be suspended when the rights of others is at stake. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2021/06/22/lai-mohammed-alleges-twitter-is-promoting-acts-of-terrorism-in-nigeria/ Mynd44, OAM4J |
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the composition of the Federal Government’s Team to engage with Twitter over the recent suspension of the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in Nigeria. |
Some small businesses that rely on Twitter for survival are finding it tough to cope as a result of the indefinite suspension imposed on the operation of the micro blogging site by the Federal Government. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JE Stores, Jadesola Praise, said her sales had dipped since the ban was imposed because she depends on the platform to reach her customers. According to her, JE Stores is a virtual shop that deals in unisex wears, sneakers, bags, slides, writs watches and others with nationwide delivery. “My sales have been affected. I am hopeful that the government and Twitter will reach an agreement soon so that the nightmare will come to and end,” she said. Also, a Lagos-based entrepreneur, Ogechi Egemonu, said she was selling more than N500,000 worth of watches, shoes and handbags on Twitter weekly. Now, with the site suspended by the government, Egemonu does not know how she will cope. “Social media is where I eat. I depend on social media for my livelihood,” she told Reuters. Praise and Egemonu are few of the several small, medium enterpriseses (SMEs) in the country that have been affected by the indefinite suspension of the micro-blogging platform. The Federal Government had on June 4, announced the “indefinite” suspension of Twitter over “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”. It came days after the platform President Muhammadu Buhari’s post threatening to punish secessionist agitators. He said that a “sizeable number of citizens” use Twitter to make a living. Parliament’s minority caucus warned the suspension was costing Nigerians “billions of naira on a daily basis.” Dumebi Iyeke, a research analyst with the Financial Derivatives Company, said it would hit young Nigerians – among whom there is a 45 per cent unemployment rate – the hardest. “We are looking at a potential loss in their revenue,” Iyeke said, adding that it could further lower living standards amid high inflation. Information Minister Lai Mohammed last week said that all social media sites must register a local entity and get a license to operate. He cited complaints over lost money as proof that the ban was effective, but said other sites are still available. “Section 2(1) r of the NBC Act entrusts the Commission with responsibility to ensure strict adherence to the national laws, rules and regulations,” the DG said. “Section 3.11.2 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code provides that ‘the broadcaster shall ensure that law enforcement is upheld at all times in a matter depicting that law and order are socially superior to or more desirable than Crime and Anarchy.” “Attention is also drawn to section 5.6.3 of The Code which requires Broadcasters to be mindful of materials that may cause disaffection, incite to panic or rift in the society in the use of a user generated Content (UGC). “Note that it will be unpatriotic for any broadcaster in Nigeria to continue to patronise the suspended Twitter as a source of its information therefore strict compliance is enjoined.” https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2021/06/22/how-small-businesses-are-taking-the-hit-on-twitter-ban/ Mynd44, OAM4J |
An unorthodox vigilante group known as ‘Bakasi boys’ who engaged in jungle justice in Anambra state have resurfaced after two decades to crush cultists and other criminals has allegedly killed six suspects. The vigilante group arrived in Awka, the state capital, on Saturday with their first six victims burnt on Monday. No one seems to know who sent them or how they are to approach their duty, but they are not policemen. Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu said he had no information on them, but a senior officer confirmed that they arrived on Saturday. The officer provided no further information. “That’s the only thing I can tell you for now, let’s see how things work out in days and weeks to come,” he said. “If they engage in jungle justice, nobody will talk, especially the lawyers and human rights groups, but when police engage in such, the whole world will tumble and that’s what the state deserves at this moment, ” the source said. Awka has been terrorised by cultists without much resistance from police. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2021/06/15/bakassi-boys-vigilante-group-returns-kills-six-in-anambra/

Righteousness2:If there is resurrection of the dead according to Bible, are those in heaven coming back from heaven to planet earth again and for those in hellfire are they also going to return? I ask this because for there to be a resurrection the person have to be dead, in other words non existent, and then called back to life, at least that's what resurrection means. It is therefore inconsistent to teach that the dead somehow stay alive in heaven or hell and at same time teach about resurrection of the dead... What ya say pastor? |

Secession is not a crime by any standard, big countries like USSR, Yugoslavia, Sudan, Somalia, indo-pak, Ethiopia, etc all disintegrated and moved on. Why is Nigeria's situation so difficult to talk about? Looking at the level of hate and lack of love among various tribes, it's gonna all end having over 20 countries emerge from the remains of Nigeria. |

Nigerian Naira falls to 502 per dollar at black market - The Nigerian Naira (NGN) on Friday fell to N502 per dollar at the parallel market, the depreciation has been recurring over the past couple of weeks after the adoption of N410.25k as official rate by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The new official rate shows an 8.24-percent devaluation from N379/$ previously. It also shows an N72.75k. ABCON President Aminu Gwadabe have blamed Speculators for the sale of dollars above the exchange rate approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the rising pressure on the naira against the dollar, the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) has said. FINANCIAL WATCH gathered Aminu Gwadabe who made the claim in Lagos, advised foreign exchange users to buy dollars from CBN-licensed Bureaux De Change (BDCs) at the approved rate and refrain from patronising forex speculators. The naira, which exchanged at N502/$ at the parallel market remains at N410.25/$ at the official market following last week’ devaluation of the local currency by the CBN. According to Gwadabe, forex speculators capitalise on the state of the foreign exchange market and the naira to sell dollars above CBN approved margin. According to him, parallel market activities have for years become major drivers of the exchange rates and control over such transactions have become burdensome. He said only CBN-licenced BDCs operate within regulatory guidelines and therefore should be patronised. Gwadabe said the licenced BDCs, being regulatory-complaint and operating within international best practices, cannot sell the dollar to end-users above the N2 per dollar margin set by the CBN to protect the naira against foreign exchange speculators and ensure exchange rate stability. The ABCON Executive Council said ABCON has continued to ensure that BDCs file their reports as and at when due, conduct Know Your Customer (KYC) and due diligence reports as required by the apex bank. ABCON explained that while BDCs are licensed to offer retail across the counter of foreign exchange transactions, they play critical roles in the economy and have contributed to the economic development of the country like ensuring order and confidence in the forex market, providing data for monetary policy, channels for CBN Intervention in Retail forex market and creation of over 15,000 jobs among others. The group assured members of the public of its commitment to conduct retail forex transactions as defined and regulated by the apex bank. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2021/06/04/nigerian-naira-falls-to-502-per-dollar-at-black-market/ puskin, FOD, dominique, naijacutee
