Delta by-election: How the candidates, parties
stand
on october 12, 2013 at 12:33 am in politics
Dafinone…Politics
has become an
expensive venture
especially in Delta
State
EMERHOR
By Emma Amaize, Regional Editor, South-South &
Festus Ahon
IT is tricky, quite complicated to foretell which
candidate or political party will win today’s bye-
election in Delta Central senatorial district
(predominantly Urhobo ) of Delta State to fill the
vacancy created in the Senate, occasioned by the
regrettable demise, June 30, of the former Senator,
late Pius Ewherido, because of shifting political
variables.
It is straightforward to say that the senatorial flag
bearer of Democratic People Party, DPP, Chief Ede
Dafione, the party on which platform the late
Ewherido contested and won in April, 2011, will win
the election because of the party’s Urhobo appeal,
but that will be failing to take into reckoning the
crisis the party is grappling with.
To also say that the All Progressives Congress, APC,
fielding Olorogun O’tega Emerhor is likely to win
because he inherited the political structure of the
late Ewherido, as Emerhor wants people to believe
and that it is an amalgamation of three legacy
parties, ACN, ANPP and CPC, is to turn politics to
mathematics.
In like manner, concluding that
the senatorial candidate of PDP,
Olorogun Emmanuel
Aguariavwodo, will triumph
because of his party’s following
is like deciding the end of a race
when the referee had not blown
the final whistle.
From obtainable reality, political
pundits are most likely to find
the October 12 bye-Delta Central
bye -elections difficult to
conjecture because the
parameters are different from
the previous ones.
However, it is palpable that out of the nine
candidates in the race, six of them: Mrs. Atatagolly
Hannah Oritsegbubemi Odibe -Advanced Congress of
Democrats; Chief (Mrs.) Mercy Imonisa – Kowa Party,
KP and Mr. Alfred J.J. Joseph – Allied Congress Party of
Nigeria, ACPN, Omoru-Akposheri Edafe-David of All
Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; Lucky Ighomuaro
Ambrose – Mega Progressive Peoples Party, MPPP;
and Chief (Barr.) Andi Kayoma Osawota, Labour
Party, LP, can be described as mere contenders.
The real battle for who becomes late Ewherido’s
successor is among the PDP, APC and DPP
candidates, Aguariavwodo, Emerhor and Dafinone
respectively. Dafinone rates highly because his party,
DPP, led by three-time governorship candidate, Chief
Great Ogboru, often called “People’s General” is
regarded by the people of Delta Central as “our
party”.
Its inroad was because of the disunity that rocked the
PDP before now in the senatorial district. Indeed, it
was the disagreement and no love lost relationship
that made the late Ewherido to dump PDP for DPP.
Even Dafinone was once a member of PDP. However,
PDP seems to have resolved its differences and the
power brokers have joined forces to retrieve their
pride in today’s bye-election.
Today, PDP will be fighting to take back the
senatorial seat, which DPP took from it for the first
time in 2011. The parties have deployed a lot of
resources and men for the election, taking place in
eight local government areas; Sapele, Uvwie, Okpe,
Ethiope East, Ethiope West, Ughelli North, Ughelli
South and Udu, which make up the district.
Sapele:
DPP candidate, Chief Ede Dafinone comes from
Sapele local government and combining his prowess
with that of his father, his followers believe the
people will give him their votes.
But PDP tactician and
Commissioner for Housing,
Chief Paulinus Akpeki, told
Saturday Vanguard that
Sapele is PDP candidate, Chief
Aguariavwodo. Akpeki said he
had never lost election to the
Dafinones in the timber town.
Chief Akpeki, who was in his
elements told Vanguard
pointedly, yesterday, “The
truth is that the Dafinones are
going to lose in Sapele, I have
defeated them in the past, whether in the defunct
SDP/NRC days or the other times the elder Dafinone
sponsored a House of Representative candidate
against my candidate. “
He said, “Ede Dafinone, who is contesting the
senatorial election is a white man, he is an alien in
Sapele, find out, he cannot speak in our native
dialect, so with which language is he campaigning to
our people, I tell you, he is a non-starter.”
“PDP has always defeated Dafinone in Sapele and we
will do it again,” Akpeki said, as if sure of the swing
of pendulum.
It is obvious, however, that DPP and PDP are going to
share Sapele votes. The impact of the APC candidate,
Olorogun Emerhor will be known after the election.
Ethiope –East
This is homestead of DPP leader, Chief Great Ogboru,
which many believe will be delivered by him to his
party’s candidate, Dafinone. It will be a surprise if
Ogboru loses Ethiope East to any party.
But his elder brother, Chief Julius Ogboru, one-time
pillar of the party and former Field Marshal of the
Ogboru Campaign Organization, who had decamped
to the PDP, boasted that he was going to prove
analysts wrong.
The APC candidate is not expected to have a good
showing in Ethiope –East, where the two Ogboru’s
and their supporters will fight to finish. But the
younger Ogboru, Great Ovedje, is supposed to have
an upper hand. Therefore, Ethiope-East will go the
way of DPP.
Ethiope-West
None of the three major candidates are from Ethiope-
West, which has been traditionally a PDP area.
Urhobo political leader, Chief Ighoghota Amori, who
lost the senatorial seat to Ewherido is from Mosogar
and three-time member of House of Representatives,
Hon. John Agoda is also from the same local
government. Both are working for the PDP
candidate, but Emerhor and Dafinone have made
some inroad too.
Ughelli South
PDP candidate, Aguariavwodo is from Okpare-Olomu
Ughelli South and is most likely to clear the votes no
matter the fight by other parties. The Deputy
Governor, Prof Amos Utuama and former Minister of
State for Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi are
from this local government and their mandate is to
deliver the area to Aguariavwodo.
Ughelli North:
This is the local government of the APC candidate,
Olorogun Emerhor, who is from Evwreni community.
He is going to share the votes with Aguariavwodo
because of the influence of former ACN governorship
candidate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, who had
returned to the PDP and working round the clock to
deliver the area to PDP. Emerhor’s followers,
nevertheless, think that with the late Ewherido’s
structure at the disposal of their principal, he is as
good as having won Ughelli North.
The LP candidate, Barrister Osawota is from Ughelli
North, but his party has no footing in the area.
Emerhor’s participation has automatically knocked
off whatever support the DPP would have got in
Ughelli North, as the battle is likely to be between
APC and PDP.
Okpe:
Many think that Okpe will be won by either DPP or
APC, but the member, representing Okpe, Sapele and
Uvwie Federal Constituency, Mrs. Evelyn Ojakavo and
other PDP leaders were working to deliver it to PDP.
However, DPP and PDP will divide Okpe votes.
Udu
Udu had for some time now been voting against PDP
candidates, but one of the political heavyweights and
member of the House of Representatives, Hon Austin
Ogbaburon, decamped from DPP, Thursday, and
declared with his teeming supporters for the PDP.
The wind of change is actually blowing in Udu, but
can it brush off DPP?
Uvwie
Lagos lawyer, Barrister Festus Keyamo, who lost the
APC primary to Emerhor and former Commissioner
for Education, Dr. Veronica Ogbuagu, are doing
everything to secure victory for APC in Uwvie, but the
DPP has tremendous support in the local
government. The battle here can be said to be an
APC/DPP affair, but the PDP is planning a come-back.
Between Uduaghan and Ogboru
However, the final verdict on
who wins today’s election lies
with the voters, who will make
the decision with the voter’s
cards. The governor of the
state, Dr. Emmanuel
Uduaghan, has shown much
interest in the bye-election to
ensure that Aguariavwodo
wins.
In fact, Uduaghan, who has increased his
development tempo, certainly, wants to make a
point with the bye-election and had relocated from
Asaba to Warri to monitor proceedings and handle
challenges as they come. He directed political
appointees and elected office holders from the
district to deliver their wards to the party’s
candidate.
Winning the bye-election means a lot to the PDP,
which wants to say that it is the party to beat in the
state, while for Chief Ogboru, a loss for Dafinone, the
party’s candidate in today’s election, may mark a
political eclipse for him.
He will be a much-sought force for further political
negotiations in the State if Dafione wins, but if the
DPP fails; the gravitation will be to PDP and could
even mark the death of DPP in the state. The result
will be determined in less than 24 hours. 10-10

Also, can you read? You've stalked some of my other posts, shown you're a liar and still can't comprehend that I'm not a 'dude'? You're possibly a lost cause, my friend.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Busted: Tellers Welfare - The True Story In Access Bank! by maximunimpact(m): 10:34pm On Oct 06, 2013
Travelista: Why is this complaint being posted over and over? Stop comparing your new employer to the old one (that failed). So, you don't get a birthday cake? You're at work to work; you can celebrate on your free time or, better yet, the support staff can chip in and buy cakes for their coworkers.

Core staff and support staff are not the same: most companies work to keep their core employees while support staff is seen as expendable. Sounds harsh but it's true.

Why should someone have a Bsc and be treated equally with someone that has an HND? I worked hard, double majored and got into law school and graduated; there is no way on earth a corporation would agree to offer me a package they offered to someone in a support role. If you're so 'literate', go back to school and upgrade your degree because the real world is not going to slow down or downgrade their standards to appease you.

Businesses (banks included) are open to make money. Support and contract staff traditionally do the majority of the lifting and get paid the least. You can't expect a professional or core staff member to spend their day answering phones, counting money or typing letters; that grunt work...and that's where support staff comes to the rescue.

I'm seeing a lot of whining in this thread and very little, if any, is justified. Your employer only employees you: they don't have to be your friend, hold your hand, celebrate or commiserate with you. Do that on your personal time. Don't like it? Get another job or research what it takes to join those you feel are treated better. I know this doesn't sound nice but that is how things work everywhere.

CelebritiesList Of Fees Charged By Popular Hip-hop Stars Per Show by maximunimpact(op): 9:11pm On Sep 29, 2013
In first place is Award-winning singing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square are the highest paid hip-hop artistes right now, ENCOMIUM Weekly findings have revealed.

The Okoyes are currently charging between N9 and N10 million for a show within Nigeria.

Apart from information gathered from the source close to the duo, independent music promoters/artiste managers also confirmed this, declaring the Koko master, D’Banj as the second highest paid artiste. The DB Record boss charges between N6 and N7 million as a standard show fee.

“Before the split of Mo’Hits, it used to be D’Banj. When D’Banj was charging between N7 and N8 million, P-Square’s fee was N5 million”, a veteran music manager affirmed, adding, “Right now, it’s P-Square.”

The afro-pop king, 2Face Idibia is the third highest paid. Although, 2Face’s performance fee has not been consistent, it’s within N5 and N6 million.

Industry sources told ENCOMIUM Weekly that 2Baba, as he’s fondly addressed, easily adjust fees because of the love he has for fans. “I agreed that he’s the third because he loves what he knows how to do best than the money.

He’s man of the people and he loves to reach out to the people. He’s always happy when he’s on stage.”

Star Boyz owner, Wizkid, who stormed the industry three years ago, rose to become the fourth highest paid music star, collecting between N4 and N5 million. Although, the Jaiye Jaiye artiste has not featured in any big show in recent times, he also told ENCOMIUM Weekly in a recent interview that he charges N4 to N5 million.

Female singer, Omawumi Megbele is the highest paid female star. She collects N3 million alongside some male artistes, including Flavour, Timayah and the rave of the moment, Olamide. Others are Darey Art Alade, Duncan Mighty, and Chocolate Music artistes, M.I and Ice-Prince.
The likes of Kukere crooner, Iyanya, Davido, Wande Coal and Tiwa Savage are in the league of artistes that go for N2.5 million, while D’Prince, Dr.Sid and one time highest earning artiste, 9ice collect N2 million respectively.

Aside artistes that still receive less than N1 million, Naeto C and Waje’s fee is N1.5 million.

“Basically, each artiste has a standard fee for gigs, concerts but for private parties such as birthday, wedding, etc, it varies. Some people would call for reduction simply because they are individuals, not brands. It depends on the artistes whether to accept or not. What I know is that it’s always fixed”, said an artiste manager.

 Summary
1- Psquare – N10million
2- D’Banj - N 8million
3- 2Face – N6million
4- Wizkid – N5million
5- Omawumi, Darey, Duncan Mighty,Olamide, Timayah, Flavour, M.I, Ice-Prince – N3 million

Others…
6 - Iyanya, Davido, Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage – N2.5 million
7 - 9ice, D’Prince, Dr. Sid – N2 million
8 – Naeto C, Waje – N1.5 million

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Busted: Tellers Welfare - The True Story In Access Bank! by maximunimpact(m): 6:06am On Sep 28, 2013
Travelista: You've gone out of your way to make assumptions about a complete and total stranger. undecided Whether you believe it or not, I work hard. No matter what you think, most people within an organization work hard for their bread and butter. It may not be the unglamorous work that support staff does but most work hard. If we are talking reality, my job is to find weakness in my opponent's approach and rectify things to the benefit of my side. Our support staff is there to offer...believe it or not...SUPPORT because my job is far more specialized and requires attention to certain details, while support staff usually handles more mundane, general tasks. Without my role, there would be no need for support staff in our office and without support staff, my work wouldn't be as well put together as our clients require. Is it fair that I get paid more than them? Depends on who you ask but my additional years of training doesn't hurt. (Also, please note some lawyers never set foot in a courtroom and the legal profession is not as fast-paced as it is shown on TV. In fact, it's mostly reading. grin)

As you keep harping about reality, do you sit around crying for the people that applied for the job you currently hold? What makes you think YOU deserved the job over them? I'll tell you what: your experience and education. If you truly believe that someone cannot have something unless they prey on the weak, I'd love to read on Monday that you have tendered your resignation at your place of employment, given up your home and belongings and become an ascetic...but I won't because you deserve the rewards of your hard work. Just as I do.

Whether you like it or not, I have a right to take pride in my accomplishments just as much as the next person. You have to be a sick person to deduce from my few posts that I want to keep the weak oppressed...seriously, who are you and how do you lack basic reading comprehension? Not only that but you think I should strive to call myself a human rights activist? Again, who are you? Tell me: what have YOU done to provide succor to your fellow man? Don't worry about my pockets; worry about yours. I'm not here to make people feel bad but to help them understand that the professional world can be a cold place but there are ways to survive without comprising your morals.

There is no shame in being a realist: it doesn't mean you lack empathy, sympathy or kindness for those that life is unjust towards. It just means you understand that not everyone can live a charmed life. Not everyone will have wealth. Some will find life harder than others and as sad as it is, people continue to fall into the Us v. Them trap. I am idealistic enough to believe that everyone deserves a chance to prove their worth. As I stated in a previous post, if your current place is not fulfilling your needs, make the necessary changes. If your employer still doesn't budge, look for a new place. (Obviously, secure the new job before quitting the one you have!) But sitting around grumbling? That's what they want...to keep you feeling helpless. You power comes when you realize they need you more than you need them.
There is really no place 4 u in this world of fantasy u ar talkin abt. U ar hardworking right? I can't say u ar because u ar d one sayin it, no secondary confirmation. But even if u ar, I dnt tnk ur hardwork pays. Somtin must really be wrong somwher wit u. Wat is hardwork witout opportunity? Am sure u ar a stranger 2 dat word.

U ar so full of ursef like dat rich fool dat beliv so much in his hardwork, I tnk u may knw wat happened 2 him, and hw God reacted 2 his pride. U ar reaally riskin his fate.

Wat abt grace? Do u still knw abt dat? It is not he dat willeth, or he dat runneth, but it is God that shows mercy.

U will nva bulge because u ar so obsessed wit ur hardwork, u cudnt av knwn de hw opportunity and grace com in2 play in success.

U ask who am I? Truth is u don't knw me, n I don't brag abt my fame in a social media like u, a lot of ppl will agree wit d fact dat u av been spoon fed all ur life, I don't tnk u av eva been der on ur own, dats y u open ur gates anyhw and brag abt hardwork.

This thrend isn't 4 u, so go away to the crime and non-celebrity section, dats were u belong, or the romance section, u need it too, but just go away and stay away!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Busted: Tellers Welfare - The True Story In Access Bank! by maximunimpact(m): 10:38pm On Sep 27, 2013
Travelista: I saw where the poster complained about how the company reacted to the deaths of employees; in fact, I responded in one of the numerous threads started about IBplc v. Access Bank and offered condolences and said the families could file wrongful death suits if they felt Access was at fault. You don't have to like what I wrote but it doesn't make it any less true: your employer is not your friend and never will be (no matter how nicely they may treat you). You, as an employee, are disposable; this applies from the very top, all the way to the very bottom. HOWEVER, some are more expendable than others.

If you actually read my post that you quoted, you'd see I graduated from law school; if you think that my hard work does not factor into the corporate positions I have earned, then you are only fooling yourself. Are there situations when an under-qualified person is in a position that is too advanced for them? Of course, it happens! Are there times that an overqualified person is in a position they could do in their sleep? Of course! But, for the latter, why accept a position and then turn around and complain about it? Either speak up to those that matter or find a place that suits your needs and nurtures your talents. Though easier said than done, it CAN be done. Think of it as survival of the fittest; keep pushing and you will get what you desire.

Your post sounds like you begrudge the success of others and that's fine; call me condescending, a snob, whatever makes you feel better but the fact remains: only YOU can make yourself better suited for your position at work, in life, in relationships, etc. Expecting life to bend and break to suit your needs is an futile endeavor.

To be fair, one doesn't have to be in Nigeria to know that complaints like those expressed by the OP are universal: I worked for a multinational before I branched out on my own and we had a receptionist that was constantly complaining about how even junior associates were allowed to have long lunch breaks, come in later and work from home. I jokingly warned her that if she had any issues with the workplace, she should address it privately with HR. Well, she didn't heed my advice and was eventually fired because she complained more than she worked and brought down morale amongst support staff. What she (and many others like her) don't understand is that those they feel are given better treatment put in sweat equity in other ways. We worked a minimum of 60 hours a week, were not eligible for overtime, were required to be available for calls at 3am because a client was in Hong Kong and wanted us to participate in a conference call, the list goes on.

I feel sorry for you if you think people like me are drawing Nigeria back; being logical and understanding that business is not sentimental is how economies flourish.
In d real world, sentiments apart ppl like u thrive and stand tall above everyone else. The reason is not that u ar so hardworking, but because u understand d battle of d survival of d fitest, were the strong prey on d weak, u ar bound to be a success.

Yes in d real world ders no room 4 sympathy, emparthy, pity or remorse or anytin like dat, as long as u av som buks u gat 2 tnk u ar hardworkin. U ar a realist......yes I say so.....but if I may ask u a question....wat xatly do u live 4? Frm ur coments, it seems u ar a lawyer or sort of.....legal practitioner, and maybe one day u will av d guts to call ursef a human right activist, but I assure u, in d real world wch u tnk u belong, there is morality, there is conscience, there is been considerate, there is justice and equity and there is decency.........unfortunately 4 u, all diz ar lackin in ur perversed mind, all I can read frm ur coments is all abt ur hardwork.......but wat if ur hardwork is not apropriately reworded.......can u still be a realist.

These guys(support staff) work harder dan u, dey work der ass each day 2 giv d bank an image! D Image dat ppl lik u will really apreciate but will look d oda way wen it comes 2 makin doz plastic smiles u see 2 really com frm d heart.

Its a gud tin u ar hardworkin, but I hardly tnk u ar.............ur self professd hardwork is more of ego.....but am sure u also knw dat change is inevitable.........one day u will find ursef in position were ur hardwork is not apreciated, den u will really knw wat d op is talkin abt.

Perharps u av no conscince, dat makes u even mor dangerous, as u will always defend criminals, smuglers, fraudsers, unjust employers and d likes of u in court because all u care abt is makin sure dat d weak remains opressed. But the gud news is dat we still av ppl wit conscience in this thrend, only u cannot be right.

That's reality above, as u really wnt 2 be a realist!

Churches closure: PFN, others ask President
Biya to reverse order
2013-08-17 00:43:10
Christian leaders in Nigeria have joined their
Cameroonian counterparts to condemn the recent
clampdown on Pentecostal churches in Cameroun.
President Paul Biya had ordered the closure of 50
churches, many of which originated from Nigeria.
Pastors in Bamenda and Douala had on Wednesday
marched against the government's order.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman,
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Lagos chapter,
Apostle Alex Bamgbola, asked Biya to reverse the
order or face God's wrath.
He said closing the churches down was tantamount
to closing his life and career if he failed to reverse
the order.
Bamgbola said, "Since I read about the development
in the dailies, I have been praying for Biya. I ask him
to reverse the order or be ready to face the anger of
God.
"Quote me, Biya cannot get away with this just like
the biblical King Nebuchadnezzar."
A former General Overseer, Foursquare Gospel
Church, Nigeria, Rev. Wilson Badejo, said since the
churches were formally registered to operate, Biya
should have gone through the proper channel to
correct whatever wrong he had noticed.
Badejo said, "It is wrong for him to summarily order
the closure of churches. That is the spiritual
heartbeat of the country. They are harmless
institutions. I call on him to reverse the order."
Badejo said the Christian community in the country
should have a dialogue with Biya before taking any
action against him.
Corroborating his view, the founder of Evangelical
Ministries, Bishop Stephen Ogedengbe, said Biya
was heading towards wrath by closing down the
house of God.
He said except he reversed the action, he should
prepare for the implication of his action.
"We are seeing the manifestations of the end times.
African leaders are playing God. Biya should not only
look at the negative incident he referred to for
shutting the churches, what about the many good
things that people have benefitted from the
churches?
"I just want him to know that this will not stand.
Churches in Nigeria are already praying against the
move," he said.
Biya had declared the Pentecostal churches as illegal
and posing security threats.
He cited the collapse and death of a nine-year-old
girl during a prayer session in a Pentecostal church
in Bamenda as a further reason for his action.
