NANS passes vote of no confidence on Jonathan on August 17, 2013 at 12:30 am in News *’We’re disappointed over Okonjo-Iweala’s comments’ National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, through a statement made available and signed by the National P.R.O. Comrade Victor Olaogun, has passed a vote of no confidence on President Goodluck Jonathan over what they called his “ineptitude to handle and resolve the ongoing impasse between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.” While berating the lackadaisical attitude of the Nigerian President towards the development of the youth and his insensitivity and inattentiveness to the pains and demands of Nigerian students and university lecturers, the Association called for instantaneous declaration of state of emergency on Nigeria’s education sector, saying “we can no longer condone his ineffectiveness, whereupon we pass a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE on him. “Also we pass VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE on the Minister for Education, for not having the interest of Nigerian students at heart. We also condemn the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Students and Youth Matters, Comr. Jude Imagwe over his lukewarm attitude to the plights of the Nigerian students. “As a former president of NANS, (though factional) we expect Comr. Jude Imagwe to use his good office to press for the demands of the students and even protect the interest of undergraduates who at this time are facing huge challenges as a result of the lingering strike action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities” However the Association pleaded with ASUU to return to the classes while deliberation continues or drag FG to court. “we urge ASUU to drag the Federal Government to court since nobody is above the law. We call for immediate allocation of Special Intervention Fund to Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary education in Nigeria. We remained indifferent on ASUU strike because we thought the two parties could use pragmatic approaches to settle their rift. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/nans-passes-vote-of-no-confidence-on-jonathan/ |

Anambra politics is not like die-hard south-western states dat vote wit high afinity to party affiliations. I trust Anambrarians will vote based on credibilty. The points to look out for come november elections are: 1. Gov. Peter Obi will play a major role in who succeeds him. He have strategically took Ngige out of bizness, Soludo's fate lies in his barehands and PDP is as confused as ever xcept there is an off-record agreement btween Peter Obi and PDP considering his romance with presidency as of late. 2. If APGA fields Peter Obi's anointed(Obaze), they maybe struggling to win on a 50-50 give or take. That will also give Ngige a plus considering his popularity. 3. Assuming Andy Uba gets PDP ticket and Obaze gets APGA, the job will be muchly easier for Ngige. I don't really see any face coming out from PDP. Obi made sure he wreck Ngige's chances by planting a political propagander wit Lagos rehab programme for destitutes. Except Obi makes a ''MISTAKE'' Ngige have no chance or if Ngige makes a great come back, his chances will be good. 4. We have only three top contenders if we base on party politics......APGA the favourite, PDP, the old timers and APC, the ruckies(I mean ruckies in Anambra) and a lot could change after primaries. 5. GEJ can care less if APGA wins, but worried if APC wins. He will get it all if PDP takes over. Either way, the fight is APGA and PDP vs APC, the common enemy! 6. And lastly the end result maybe shocking! Don't count Ngige out yet, that guy is not a cake walk! |
ferdimako: I understand you want to get done and I'm not against it.Bros,I was talking about exams not being feasible to be held or start by Sep 30. What's wrong with you? Is English language a problem here?English man ur language is not my problem, u didn't just say xams are not feasible by 30th sept, u said u called ur contact @ head qtrs and he told u xams will be jan. We have reports coming in a the NEC of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in a meeting in Abuja today has resolved to suspend the on-going strike action. Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in a meeting in Abuja today has resolved to suspend the on-going strike action. The Federal Government and ASUU seem to have reached an agreement on the demands made by the Union which includes better funding of Nigerian Universities. ASUU NIGERIA tweeted this: “We want to thank you all for the understanding thus far. All lecturers are to resume immediately. ASUU will not relent on her efforts to rescue the educational system by pressing home the demands necessary at all times.” www.omg.com.ng/2012/02/ASUU-calls-off-strike-today/ |
Really no love lost, but really Ibos in Nigeria, that occupy mainly the South Eastern part of the country are the most tribalised, complaining and selfish people I have ever seen on the face of the earth, here are the facts and points to buttress my view: 1. From the onset, they had the chance of been a major bloc in Nigerian politics, they have the honor of producing the first president of the country, even the first coup was carried out by the Ibos successfully, they had the power......but because of greed, tribalism, selfishness and kindred evil, they rose from grace to grass, today, they don't count in Nigerian politics. 2. The Ibos cannot survive on their own. There is no place in Nigeria an Igbo man will not build a house, an igbo man will rather betray his own brother for a piece of land elsewhere. There is no unity and focus, no political vision, but yet they will always cry like baby that they want an Igbo presidency. 3. On the isue of Ngige and Igbokwe's stance on Fashola's rehab programme, the reaction of Anambra state govt is typical of an Igbo man, this is a break in communication caused by Peter Obi who received two unreplied memo from Lagos state govt. Eventhough it is very glaring, because the isue have involved a Yoruba man, the Ibos will tribalise it as the Yorubas against the Ibos, nowonder they want to crucify two of their own for being on the side of truth. 4. Curruption is deeply routed in Igbo land, if all the Ibos should go back to their respective states, you will see that the wheat have been separated from the tarse, look at the edifice of one man, a former governor, Uzor kalu, who have amased wealth to the detriment of the masses, MASOB or any organised Ibo group will never see any wrong about it, but they will chose to attack Fashola's rehab programme because he is a Yoruba man. 5. Check all the instruments of coarse in this country, almost all of them is from Ibo land. If PDP or any powerful individual want to cause instability for any political gain, they will use an Igbo man, take for example, the ghost rival APC, african people's congress is headed by an Igbo man. Instead of standing up for their own cause, just like the Hausa's and the Yoruba's, they will end up been the instrument of havoc in the hands of political lords just because of greed, selfishness, and hatred. That is why an igbo man will never be the president of Nigeria ever again! 6. The Ibos are always divided against each other against their own who find grace with other tribes. Ngige is one of the best Governors Anambra have ever seen, but because he is alighned with APC, which only the Ibos see as a Hausa/Yoruba party, they have thrown him away as a betrayal, Obasanjo, who is a former president of Nigerian never played a tribal politics, but yet his people never brandished him as a betrayal, that's maturity on the part of Yorubas, if OBJ were an Igbo man, MASOB or Aka Ikenga must have bannished him from Igbo land! That's how tribalised the Ibos are! Bottomline is, the survive in a country like Nigeria, one need to think beyond tribal lines, its not that there is no tribalism in other ethnic groupings in Nigeria, but it is worst with our south eastern brother! |
I think some NOUN students are geting lazy, d zeal is going down! Why would some students want d skul calender shifted? If u know dat in 7wks time there wud be an xam, y wunt u get prepared? Let's wait and watch if registeration will be open dis wk, and if TMA also start dis month and xam reg commence dis month, there is no way xams will be shifted to january. I really want to get over wit dis xam b4 january. |
I met her in a brutel home |
Ok agreed, fashola's actions is condemnable, Ngige erred by covering the truth........so what is Peter Obi going to do? Abandon d destitutes like Fash did? Or accomodate the 14 Anambrarians and deport the rest like Fashola did? If he end up not making the life of those destitutes and the ones roaming around Anambra state better, he has don notin. Atleast Fashola did somtin about destitutes! So let's watch if Peter Obi and the other state govts will do somtin about less previleged ppl, if nobody comes up wit a better idea, Fashola remains the man with wisdom! |
ferdimako: Forget that calender...how many semesters have you done? So u believe a semester that has not started, will start exams Sep.30? Haha.I call Lagos people myself.Whichever way,am out of that system.Hey stop spreading rumor and lies based on unfounded speculation. NOUN hav followed dis calendar 100% of a time since it was released, so y are u effecting a change based on a cheap call u made to an unimformed informant? |

Dmanky: OKupe or wateva He calls himself is jus bluffing, I dnt blame him, He is only using his bigmouth wrongly, mind u,ws He nt d 1 dt said he wl change his father's name,if APC wl b registered! Shame on Him! His only Job dia is using, his bogus mouth 2 forment troubles 4d president, funy enuf GEJ cn nt call him 2 order.Okukpe never said he will change from his father's name if APC is registered.....here is what he said: Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has described the merger of opposition political parties on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a weak association that would crumble and disappear before the end of 2014. Doyin, the son of Okupe, said he is so sure that APC will crumble that bet with his father's name... “If they don’t crumble and disappear by 2014, don’t call me Okupe,” he bragged during a courtesy visit to Thisday corporate offices in Lagos on Tuesday. The self-described “attack lion” of President Goodluck Jonathan dismissed insinuations that the merger party would defeat the PDP in the next election. Hear him: “Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari are not serious-minded people; they are going round like people dancing in a market place. I expect that when you post an aggregate of people of that calibre who want to run government, by now they must have a policy statement on power, agriculture and employment and not just talking about PDP leaving. "Is it by mouth that they will run the nation? These are not serious-minded people. Can someone get your vote by using word of mouth that PDP should leave without a policy?” Okupe said Jonathan is performing well and Nigerians can see it everywhere, especially in the area of electricity. |

ASUU denies plan to call off strike on July 29, 2013 at 12:48 am in News By JOHNBOSCO AGBAKWURU ABUJA — ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described as speculative reports that the strike embarked upon by the union over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it willingly entered into with the union would be called off this Thursday. National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, told Vanguard that he was surprised to hear that the union was going to call off the strike on Thursday when the issues tabled before government had not been resolved. Faggae said: “There is nothing like that (suspending the strike). I am also surprised to hear people say that we are going to call off the strike. He said: “Our members have made it categorically clear what they want. This meeting we had with government on Friday at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, is just exploratory. “We are trying to look at issues holistically and see how we are going to address them. So assignments were given to various people that attended the meeting and the expectation is that we will meet tomorrow (today), Monday and look at the assignment given and also look at it on Thursday again. “So, that is why I’m surprised to hear people say that we are going to suspend strike on Thursday. The mandate of our members is very clear. So, we will wait and see what the Monday and Thursday meetings unfold and then we report back to our members.” On how long it would take ASUU leaders to convene a meeting with its members after the meeting with government on Thursday, the ASUU boss said “we are in constant consultation with our members, we don’t really have problems with that. “After the meeting, we will decide when to link up with our members depending upon what is placed on table on Thursday.” Commenting on the speculation that the union might suspend the strike if the government met up to 50 per cent of the agreement, Faggae said the union would prefer to get to the bridge before crossing it. He commended the positive disposition of the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Education towards the resolution of the crisis. Fagge added: “For us, the interaction we have had with the Joint Committee clearly indicates that they are concerned like other Nigerians”. “This is expected of the representatives of people. You see the problem has always been that the executive arm of government does not really hearken to advise that are given on how best to address the problems on education in this country. “We are convinced as a union that the only thing the government can really do for Nigerians is to avail them of education. “Once you are able to do that, you will see that people will be able to generate jobs and they will be able to take care of themselves and contribute to nation building. So that is the argument we are placing on the table.” www.vanguardngr.com/2013/07/ASUU-denies-plan-to-call-off-strike-on-thursday/ |
Lordlexy: Chief, please, show them mercy now. You have disconfiscated them to a point of no repair. They think we are fools. This desperate move to have things fix at this 9th hourt is simply an attempt to lure sympathy. All the good will the President has been soiled for sheer greed. Right thinking ppl perceive and appreciate progress if they see one, but what we have is nothing short of wastage and mediocraty. The President had everything at his disposal to stage an obvious change but failed to capitalise on it. The resources entrusted him with does not commeserate with the dev on ground. The health sector is in shambo, the transportation is chaotic, the over hyped agriculture is obviously not felt in the open market, unemployment is still all time high, education is relegated, except for power with some measure of improvement, may be in my area, but obviously not enough to revamp the economy. The question begging for answer is whether the electionnery promises have been fulfiled, if not, then this campaign is dead on arrival. My broda Rome was not built in a day! Gej gat vision, take 4 example the power sector, his programmes have provided a viable hope 4 constant power supply in the very near future. U just have to give fresh air a chance! |
basisop: TeamGEJ all the way. Abeg, how can I actively support big boss?@basisop, u can support the big boss by posting his ever positive and innovative achievements here, a lot of anti-gejs have invaded this thread, we must fight 2geda as a team either to make them Gejites or remove them from poluting the fresh air. |
Up to six persons were confirmed dead on Sunday by military and local government officials in central north Nigeria's Plateau State, following an attack by unknown gunmen on a village in the state. Chairman of Wase Local Government Council Muhamadu Zakari told reporters in Jos, the state capital, that five villagers and one assailant were killed in an attack on Kumbur village on Saturday. Zakari said the attackers also injured several others. Spokesperson for the Special Task Force (STF) Capt. Salisu Mustapha, who also confirmed the attack, said the STF personnel, who rushed to the scene of the attack, killed one of the fleeing assailants. Mustapha said the attackers had wanted to use the village route to launch a heavy raid on Wase, adding that they were, however, repelled by the men of the STF. He said peace had been restored to the affected area. Plateau State is situated in Nigeria's middle belt where the Muslim-dominated north and the Christian-majority south meet. The state capital Jos was plunged in a pool of blood on March 7, 2010, when members of local Muslim and Christian communities fought each other in revenge for previous killings. The state has witnessed some bomb blasts and constant rifts between Berom and Fulani herdsmen, with many, especially women and children, murdered in cold blood in the state. www.china.org.cn/world/2013-07/29/content_29555489.htm |
Some folks, and so called christians have invested so much in lies, fear and hatred for the truth......as I went through those hurrible picstories, I was really terrified with fear. The fear I got was not that am scared of going there because it doesn't exist, but am fearful for the fact that the heart of man has gone this desperately wicked, for som1 to come up with this tells how depraved and dark inside of his heart is, as I looked at those worms tearing and piersing the fictional hell bounds, I realised that how deeply these worms and dread have got a permanent place in the hearts of people who beliv and preach a physical torment in hell. I consider some humans more evil than demons, all these horrible stories personifies how the hearts of these hell preachers are! God is love. Christ died for love. Christ preached the love of God. Love is the only thing that we know today that will live for eternity. But some people have no love in them. All they have in their heart is horror, fear, hatred, evil, calamity, vengeance, and all kinds of dreadful feelings as shown in this demonic picture hell stories! |
Lagos: Deportation is lawless, vexatious on July 28, 2013 By Obi Nwakanma Once again, the Lagos state government deported Nigerians from a Nigerian state; an action that is as lawless as it is vexatious. Newspaper reports last week indicated that the Lagos authorities out of possibly excessive enthusiasm, and certainly out of pitiable ignorance and overreach, rounded up all manners of the city poor from the streets, sixty- seven of them, put them in a vehicle, and transported them across the bridge to Onitsha, Anambra state. The Lagos state government crossed two state lines to dump its human cargo. The question of course is, why Onitsha? It is provocative, both as a question and as an action. It underlines that the Lagos state government is in the care of those who think the immigrant poor should not be seen, and who promote an active policy of xenophobia. These deportations have become a ridiculous challenge by the government of Lagos on the validity of the federation as shared national space; the powers of the federal government, and the rights conferred on the Nigerian citizen by the constitution of the federation of Nigeria. It challenges the core principle of nation and national-belonging. Never mind that the constitution that the Lagos state government flouts so cavalierly is the very same document or authority from which the entity of Lagos also derives its own legitimacy. The Fashola administration, in embarking on these illegalities; in threading this route in solving a clearly sensitive social problem, subverts a key or cardinal provision of the constitution of this republic that guarantees every citizen of Nigeria protection and equal residency in any part of the federation. *Sranded persons numbering about 70 allegedly dumped at the upper axis of Onitsha, Anambra State at about 3:20 a.m. by unknown persons, yesterday. PHOTO: NAN. lSee story on page 14. The forced deportation of Nigerians from any part of Nigeria denies Nigerian citizens their right of domicile, and threatens or questions the very existence of Nigeria as a commonwealth. By its action, the government of Lagos ethnicizes the residency rights of Nigerians, and makes those who choose to pursue their constitutional rights to live in any part of the federation insecure and potential targets of xenophobic violence and official discrimination. It also usurps the power of the federal government and disregards the constitution of the Federal Republic in a willful and egregious manner. It is as though Raji Fashola’s administration is challenging the Federal government under whose protective power lives every Nigerian citizen, by saying, “what can the federal government do? Lagos state can act above the laws of the republic and nothing can happen!” Something ought to happen, and very quickly to forestall this extremely discriminatory and narrow-minded action against Nigerian citizens by its constituent part. The federal government must restore the rights of these Nigerians deported from Lagos, and enjoin these rights, even if it takes the deployment of federal troops to enforce their recall and rehabilitation. It has happened in a different clime: when the state of Mississippi, in disdain of the laws of the United States sought to maintain discriminatory laws, it took the Kennedy administration to enforce the rights of American citizens by deploying th e National Guard. It might have to come to that in Lagos. This is the second time that the administration in Lagos is conducting this ritual of mass deportation of Nigerian citizens from Lagos, on the rather scandalous claim that people migrate from other states to Lagos. Duh! Migration is the oldest human pastime: people seek new pastures; new dwellings; new economic and social life. Intra-national migration is the reality of shared nationhood, and the constitution of the Federal Republic guarantees that Nigerians shall have the right to live anywhere it so pleases them in this republic. There is no abridgement to that right in the letters of the law. For the avoidance of doubt, let me cite the very words of the Nigerian constitution to which the Lagos state government pays very scant regard: “Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof, and no citizen shall be expelled from Nigeria or refused entry thereby, or exit therefrom.” There is no part of the laws of Nigeria that empowers a state – its governor, or its state Assembly, or any of their agents – to forcefully remove any Nigerian, against their will, to another state. Chapter 2 of the Nigerian constitution that spells out the fundamental objectives and principles of state policy holds that “…national integration shall be actively encouraged, whilst discrimination on the grounds of place of origin, sex, religion, status, ethnic or linguistic association shall be prohibited.” 3(a) in fact notes unambiguously that the state is obliged to “provide adequate facilities for, and encourage free mobility of people, goods, and services throughout the federation.” The Lagos governor, who apparently ordered such a deportation has therefore acted with utter malice and in utter disdain of the laws of the federation. We are told, that he is to boot, a senior advocate of Nigeria even though he is busy advocating and applying a Third Reich solution to urban poverty. The Lagos state government is indeed creating a very dangerous precedent that not only questions the sovereign basis of the Federal Republic, but threatens its very meaning. The solution to urban poverty in Lagos is not to haul the poor to other states, but to design and create effective social programs, that require deeper thinking, rather than abrasive, knee-jerk policies that tend to perpetuate class and ethnic ostracism and divisions. To put this very mildly: Lagos was built by Nigerians with massive Nigerian resources, and it is a migrants’ city. Fashola’s administration cannot hide its dirt-poor under the carpet and by forced deportations. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/07/lagos-deportation-is-lawless-vexatious/

HARARE (AFP) – Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo arrived in the Zimbabwean capital late Saturday to head African Union observers to upcoming general elections in the southern African country. "We are here not to conduct an election, we are here to observe the conduct of an election," Obasanjo told reporters at Harare international airport. He will head a team of 60 observers from the continental body who are monitoring the July 31 election. The vote is to end a troubled power-sharing government formed four years ago by veteran President Robert and long-time rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. Brokered by South Africa, the government helped prevent the country from tipping into full-scale conflict after a bloody presidential run-off election which Tsvangirai boycotted, citing the killing of around 200 of his supporters. Both Mugabe and Tsvangirai are eyeing the presidency amid fears of another disputed poll after chaotic preparations. Tsvangirai has already alleged the vote will likely be rigged. The lead-up to the July 31 election has been marred by flawed voter registration, chaotic early polling for security forces, and lopsided campaign coverage in the state media. The vote is being organised following the adoption of a new constitution in a referendum last March. Obasanjo arrived days after the AU Commission chief Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who met the presidential candidates and poll organisers. Members of the AU observers team have been deploying in batches. The first group arrived six weeks ago. About 600 foreign election observers, mainly from African bodies, have been accredited to watch the polls in addition to 6,000 local observers. Zimbabwe has not invited Western observer missions because of sanctions imposed on Mugabe and his top officials for rights abuses. www.foxnews.com/world/2013/07/27/head-au-vote-monitors-obasanjo-arrives-in-zimbabwe/ |
"Everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all" The world that is estranged from God scoffs at the very thought of a resurrection of the dead, like the Greeks in Athens to whom Paul preached. (Acts 17:31, 32) They do not know God, and therefore they cannot appreciate his wonderful promises. And if the resurrection seems too miraculous for them to contemplate, well, Jehovah has something even more amazing in store for his people that he protects through the coming great tribulation. It is to them that Jesus' words apply, when he said: "And everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all." (John 11:26) Having survived the destruction of Satan's entire system of things, Jesus will then "shepherd [the great crowd], and will guide them to fountains of waters of life." (Matt. 24:21,22; 25:46; Rev. 7:9, 14-17; 19:19-21) The survivors of "the great day of Jehovah" will have the unique distinction and fame for all eternity of being the only ones of mankind to never have experienced death, and therefore never were in need of a resurrection!— Zephaniah 1:14, 18; 2:2,3 These ones will be present when all God's faithful servants, who Paul mentions in his letter to the Hebrews, return in the resurrection of the righteous: "All these people died having faith. They didn’t receive the things that God had promised them, but they saw these things coming in the distant future and rejoiced." (Heb. 11:13, GW) Imagine the thrill of actually meeting and inviting into your home your favorite Bible characters; conversing with them face to face and hear first hand their faith strengthening experiences that you had only read about. Have you wondered how Noah had room for all those many animals in the ark? He'll tell you! You will be able to get all your many questions answered, and be glad that you didn't need all the details before then in order to have believed them. You had put your trust in Jehovah; you endured and waited on him for his time to act; and it did not lead to disappointment.— Romans 10:11; 5:3-5. If these things fill you with eager anticipation, consider yet another blessing that Jehovah has in store uniquely for the great crowd, one that will make the resurrection of "the righteous and the unrighteous" seem anticlimactic. First, the great crowd will witness "the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels in a flaming fire," when he executes "the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction" upon all those "who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus." This is the foretold "great tribulation" that the great crowd comes out of. Now the long awaited time has arrived for Jesus to be "glorified in connection with his holy ones and to be regarded in that day with wonder in connection with all those who exercised faith." (2 Thess. 1:7-10) What will that mean for the great tribulation survivors, who exercised faith? Paul writes that they will regard with wonder the things that will follow next. In fact, Jesus referred to this most joyous occasion in one of his parables. [b]"Everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all" The world that is estranged from God scoffs at the very thought of a resurrection of the dead, like the Greeks in Athens to whom Paul preached. First, the great crowd will witness "the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels in a flaming fire," when he executes "the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction" upon all those "who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus." The First Resurrection —and the Great Crowd "Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the. thousand years." —Revelation 20:6. "If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard work I will wait for the time when you give me new life. You will call out to me, and I will answer you. Your hands created me. So you will long for me." With those words Job expressed his strong faith in the resurrection, when he cried out to God on account of the tremendous suffering inflicted on him by Satan, although at the time Job believed it was from God. Therefore he begged God: "I wish you would hide me in a grave! I wish you would cover me up until your anger passes by! I wish you would set the time for me to spend in the grave and then bring me back up!" (Job 14:13-15, NIRV) Perhaps there have been times in your own life when you pleaded similarly as Job did. To know the truth about death, and that the dead will one day live again, gives a person courage and a positive outlook for the future, no matter how bleak the present may be.—1 Thessalonians 4:13. The hope of the resurrection, that is, being awakened from "sleeping" in death at God's appointed future time, has been the confidence of God's servants ever since the death of righteous Abel. It is an integral part of God's original promise which he made in the Garden of Eden immediately after the rebellion, namely, that he would raise up a seed who would "bring to nothing the one having the means to cause death, that is, the Devil." (Gen 3:15; John 5:28,29; Heb. 2:14; 11:4, 13, 17-19) That hope is reliable, for it is among the "things in which it is impossible for God to lie."—Hebrews 6:18. As Job noted, God actually "longs" to bring "back up" from the grave all his faithful men and women who have ever walked this earth, for he knows everyone of them by name. (Matt. 10:29-31; 2 Tim. 2:19) To him they are not dead, but simply asleep in the dust. (John 11:11-14, 23-26; Rom. 14: When theSadducees, "those who say there is no resurrection," scoffed that the dead will live again, Jesus pointed to Moses as one who believed in the resurrection, saying: “But now, as to whether the dead will be raised—even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush. Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, he referred to the Lord as ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead, for they are all alive to him.”—Luke 20:37, 38; NLT; Hebrews 11:17-19. In his answer, Jesus was not implying that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or anyone else for that matter, were all alive to God because they were now in heaven with him as angels. He made that clear when he told Nicodemus: "Moreover, no man has ascended into heaven but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man." (John 3:13) The apostle Peter likewise told the crowd at Pentecost that, except for Jesus [the Son of man], no man had gone to heaven upon his death, not even faithful king David, saying: “Men, brothers, it is allowable to speak with freeness of speech to you concerning the family head David, that he both deceased and was buried and his tomb is among us to this day... Actually David did not ascend to the heavens." (Acts 2:29-36; 13:36,37, TNIV) David too became a "resident in the dust" when he "lay down with his forefathers and was buried in the City of David," from then on awaiting the day when he will once again "stand up," for that is what the Greek word anastasis (translated resurrection) literally means.—1 Kings 2:10; Isaiah 26:19. Jehovah made possible the future resurrection of all who have died throughout the millennia, when he ransomed mankind from death by means of his only- begotten Son. (John 3:16) The apostle Paul explains: "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and he was buried, yes, he has been raised up the third day according to the Scriptures... For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a man. For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive." (1 Cor. 15:3,4, 21,22) Jesus himself never doubted that his Father would resurrect him on the third day, according to his promise. This in turn is God's guarantee that the time will come when "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment."—John 5:25-28; 1 Corinthians 15:12-19. Jesus provided irrefutable evidence that he had received from his Father power over death by the resurrections he performed. (Hosea 13:14) For example, he brought back to life the twelve year old daughter of Jairus, the presiding officer of the synagogue. When Jesus comforted the grieving relatives and neighbors, saying that the girl "did not die but is sleeping," many scoffed. But their scorn turned to amazement when Jesus "took her by the hand and called, saying: 'Girl, get up!' And her spirit returned, and she rose instantly, and he ordered something to be given her to eat." We can well imagine how her parents "were beside themselves" with joy. (Luke 8:41,42, 49-56) And what about the resurrection of Lazarus, who had been dead four days? In consoling Martha and Mary, Lazarus' sisters, Jesus had assured them: "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; and everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all."—John 11:23-27, 38-44. If you had been there and witnessed the occasion— hearing Jesus call out to Lazarus and seeing the dead man come out from the tomb, still bound in burial wrappings—how might that have affected you and your faith in the resurrection? Lazarus had not gone to heaven during those four days, but rather he was simply asleep in death, his mortal body already having started to decay, as Martha noted. His spirit, the life force that God had originally breathed into Adam when he was created "out of the dust of the ground"—and which has been passed on to all of us— had "returned to God who gave it;" and God in turn was able to restore it to Lazarus.—Ecclesiastes 12:7; 3:19-21; Genesis 2:7. The resurrection of Lazarus, besides the many other resurrections mentioned in the Scriptures, are recorded for our hope and comfort; and they are merely a fore glimpse, a token, of what God's kingdom will accomplish on a much larger scale. (Rom. 15:4) Whereas all those resurrected in the past eventually died again, everyone returning in the resurrection under Christ's rule has the prospect of never dying again, yes, to live forever. (John 10:27,28; 1 Kings 17:20-23; 2 Kings 4:32-37; 13:21; Acts 9:36-41; 20:9-12) It is this kingdom that Jesus preached and taught us to pray for: "Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth."—Matt. 4:17; 6:9,10; 10:5-8. There is nothing that men have to offer that can even remotely compare with what Jehovah has in store for obedient mankind! Can you visualize the jubilation, the songs of praise that will ascend to our Creator, and the rivers of tears for joy when loved ones will embrace each other once again, having been awakened from their sleep in the dust by the resurrection? (Psalms 104:29-31; 105:1-4; Rev. 5:13,14; 19:4-6) This is our Creator's promise! This is what Jesus taught! When Jesus asked Martha: "Do you believe this?" Martha replied: "Yes, Lord!" How about you?
