Rutherford's Imprisonment

Whilst Watchtower spins the jailing of Rutherford and his associates as "Babylonish" captivity, the reason they were jailed was for sedition. The Finished Mystery vilified other religions and encouraged sedition against the United States government.

"In Shaffer v. United States (9th Cir. 1919), the defendant was found guilty of possessing and mailing copies of the book, The Finished Mystery , which contained the passage, “standing opposite to these Satan has placed [a] certain delusion which is best described by the word patriotism, but which is in reality murder, the spirit of the very devil. [If] you say it is a war of defense against wanton and intolerable aggression, I must reply that [it] has yet to be proved that Germany has any intention or desire of attacking us. [The] war itself is wrong. Its prosecution will be a crime. There is not a question raised, an issue involved, a cause at stake, which is worth the life of one blue-jacket on the sea or one khaki-coat in the trenches.” The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that “the service may be obstructed by attacking the justice of the cause for which the war is waged, and by undermining the spirit of loyalty which inspires men to enlist or to register for conscription in the service of their country” (Stone)." academic.evergreen.edu (As of June 2007)

The Finished Mystery quote above was page 251 of the 1917 edition. Rather than stand fast to its beliefs and principles, Watchtower meekly followed the United States governmental ordered to remove pages 247 to 254 from The Finished Mystery.

In the 1918 edition, the section covering the sub-heading “Out of the mouth of the dragon” was reduced from 5 pages to 1 paragraph. Click here for a PDF scan of the pages from the 1917 edition that were removed from the 1918 edition.

Watchtower was not imprisoned for preaching truth about God’s Kingdom; it was for taking side in politics. Their release was equally a violation of their principles, a result of complying with the government order to change what they had printed. Neither action showed them to be spiritually cleansed.

Watch Tower, 1906 July 15 said that the rapture would be in 1878, that's a false prophecy for a specific year,
a specific day and a specific month isn't needed to make it a false prophecy oh dum one

3 specific date failures:
1. watchtower claimed that Jesus returned in 1874,
2. watchtower claimed that the rapture would be in 1878,
3. watchtower claimed that the end of the world was to occur in 1914

Some faithless people often say God's modern day worshipers are false prophets because they keep on doing what John the baptist and Jesus of Nazareth did during their lifetime.
John and Jesus said some 2,000 years ago:

"Repent for God's Kingdom is at hand" [Matthew 3:2; 4:17} what is the meaning of "at hand"?
If John the baptist and Jesus of Nazareth could say God's Kingdom is at hand or will soon be here should we consider the both of them to be FALSE PROPHETS since it's been 2,000 years now and still counting or we need to figure out what they meant by that statement?
