If it's a prox twist knob here's the way I see it. The BCM is damaged. Install another BCM, and programme the key starting with steering lock release, a process that begins with engine off.

That's were I was heading too. Nice one

I have this small scanner we connected to the OBD port or what is it called?

The scanner comes alive and says "waiting for vehicle to respond" .

well vehicle cannot respond because ignition will not turn on.

You need a bidirectional scan tool

I'm suspecting the BCM has been partially damaged. A scan tool with requisite capability would detect concerned modules.

You are very correct. Bcm most likely culprit. He needs to run a scan first

This is a factory tint. I just reconfirmed you do not need any medical report to have the factory tint permit done. Nothing of such was ever stayed on their website as well. Perhaps ibadan is different but here in Lagos nothing of such

From experience on the field. The z1 fluid killed that transmission. Z1 fluids are no longer in production so whatever you see are fake. Prepare your mind for a transmission replacement.

Nice one. Timing chain tensioner might just need to be replaced for both banks. Not to forget it works with oil pressure if you have been using mineral oil 20w50 then it's just a good time to have it replaced. Also inspect your timing chain guide as well

My guess would be to maximise profit both cars were imported from same country. I may be wrong though. I still believe this wasn't done on the Naija soil

The Grey Toyota Corolla with the Mexicans?

That has even less in common with this case.

In that case there was simply no tampering or cloning of any sort. None whatsoever.

As I recall, he taunted someone, I stepped in to defend the person, he responded with false information, and everything went to hell

But it's on record already calculux spotted this out and even made it public on this fora. I followed every from a quiet background. I still maintain no one is an island of knowledge. He was right all the way and he should be applauded for that. Back to my question where was all this done on the Nigerian soil? Or the US soil or perhaps the jamaican soil grin grin

An inquisitive mind is a brilliant mind.

This is the exact post I assume you referred to:

As I stated, these are very different scenarios:

He stated that the gentleman requested the VIN and it was provided, and subsequently he came to his place of business, made copies of the vehicle custom papers, and absconded, proceeding to register the vehicle illegally with the particulars and the VIN.

1. Referring to the events I described in the first 2 posts on this page, because of the level of detail in the counterfeit sticker of the White CR-V, it could only have been possible if the forger had physical possession of the original sticker from the black vehicle.

The difference between these two scenarios is that this goes far beyond merely seeing the VIN online and copying and pasting on a vehicle, the VIN alone would not nearly be enough for this level of work. The 1D bar was duplicated.

Even a photo of the VIN sticker may not be enough, unless the picture of the stamp was taken directly, not at an angle, and with a particularly high resolution camera with OIS to ensure the binary comes out perfect. What seller here bothers with that?

3. To the second issue you raised, as a matter of fact a naive but honest seller would be able to determine that there was something very amiss with the white CR-V, with a history report. Perhaps not to the level of detail I outlined above, but certainly enough to make them ask the right questions.

That was where the forger in this case erred. Unlike in the case of the red Toyota Venza, the cloned VIN here has an actual timeline which I outlined above.

Any vehicle seller, experienced or otherwise, has no business selling vehicles if he doesn't understand the simple concept of vehicle history.

Do not advertise or sell what you don't know.

As for your last paragraph. There is a little beginning in every business. No one was born with all this we all learn

This is very case is far part away from what have spotted. This would have been much compared in the case of the corolla calculus posted. But for this which you posted I can't remember.

The big question is where did all this take place ? In the US or on the Nigerian soil which definitely can't be . Calculux was right stating this fraudulent act has been going on in the US for quite sometime

I assume you're referring to his refusal to provide the VIN for his advertised vehicles because of some fear of VIN cloning.

In which case you're quite wrong, and this is very different.

For the events described here to have been possible the perpetrators would have needed physical access to the actual physical VIN stamp from the damaged Vehicle.

Simply seeing the VIN online wouldn't suffice for the level of detail that went into this counterfeit.

I may be. What makes this different pardon my inquisitive nature. On a norm would a naive and inexperienced seller would ever be able to identify this?

Anyone have an idea what could be wrong with the slip indicator light staying on. This happened while I was turning a bend together with check engine light. Both came on at the same time.

Run a scan since you have the malfunction indicator lamp on

Big bros, please how can I get to find these details out i.e the output voltage etc. I am not really tech savvy.

Someone suggested it might be the battery terminals, so I called an electrician to change them. It's been two days now and the car hasn't done that again, though I'm still observing.

By Using a multimeter

I never knew a thread like this existed!

I'm sorry if I'm asking a question that has already been answered previously, but I really need help.

I recently bought a Honda CRV, 2003 model and it's been one headache to another. I've not even been able to enjoy the car.

Recently, the car started having some issues to start. I'll turn the ignition severally and it won't even make a sound, talkess of starting...(you know how a car does when it's on D or R).

The mechanic I consulted checked it and said there's something wrong with the kickstarter. He had to loosen it and he discovered it was a problem with the solenoid or something.

I've changed the solenoid but the problem still persists. I'm at a loss on what to do now. Could it be another thing that's making the car behave like this? The annoying thing is that it doesn't happen every time.

I tried to start it when i called the last electrician and the car started one hand. It was now as if I didn't know what I saying. I also noticed that there's something draining the battery of the car. Could it still be related to the same kick starter problem?

Please tech gurus, help a brother out.

Replace starter motor

Let's know what your battery voltage is at rest and what your output voltage is when car is idling with no loads è.g AC, wipers, full light, radio etc. Also let's know output voltage when the vehicle is idling with all loads on

Car Talk / Re: Whats Wrong With This Steering Rack? by mayor2013: 9:01pm On Jul 30, 2018
Tie rod end and socket boots on both sides have been kazeemized. Joints could have perhaps been made permanent by welding it down to the power steering rack
Car Talk / Re: Tinkering On A Jeep With Repair Manuals And Very Limited Automobile Experience. by mayor2013: 8:33pm On Jul 30, 2018
Avoid revving the ride at start up so as to avoid unecessary problems. You might want to try to take off the fuel pump relay at first and crank severally prior to starting the car. This would help noise produced come to alomst a minimal level. Lubrication process is faster with this.

Good luck on your quest

Gazzuzz my brothers Toyota Camry 06 V4, consumes fuel excessively. He spends about 5k daily and I’m not exaggerating. The check engine light is on, and it drives sluggishly and jerks. He changed the spark plugs and air filter, serviced the car including injector still no improvement.

Run a scan on the car and post code(s) here

Good day Nairalanders,

I have had an issue with my charging system before it worsened to a bad extent which i had no choice but to replace my alternator just after I changed my compressor and condenser. I have changed 3 alternators but the same issue persists. I placed the highest alternator amp which is 150V but still the same thing. The car charges fine when in motion but stops charging the battery when its idle. It starts draining the battery fast. Pls advice. Is it a bad wiring or the alternator is defective? HELP!!!!

cc: chukel, costee, pipedreams, gazzuzz, nissparts

150amps rather. You need to work with values here

1) battery voltage at rest
2) output voltage while car is ilding and all loads such as full lights, radio, hvac and others put on
3) out put voltage with no loads on

N.b: a voltage drop test should also be carried out
