Car Talk › Re: Hw Do One Solve Nissan Maxima 04 P0021 Code Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid by mayor2013: 7:21am On May 02, 2016
Have you checked the intake valve timing solenoid. Has he tested the performance. Checked the wiring. First point is to get another one if all is well. I, e no snapped wires and so on. If you change that and nothing positive. Proceed to timing. If you have been running on xhp and all is fine continue using that. How old is your car? Is your car a v6? The solenoid was it specified that it was either bank 1 or bank2?

If you have 2 compartment inside, you have fuel in both compartment. One is with the fuel level sensor aka fuel guage while the other one is your fuel pump which is much bigger. In some cases it could be 3 compartments just like Range rovers

One thing for sure is maintenance won't come cheap. Which of the bmw are you looking. Excellent vehicle dynamics, love the twin turbo charger that comes with it . Fuel consumption is expected to be slightly high. The germans have always built their cars to standard. Hardly would you see factory recalls. Basically for me I would just ssy they worked on all flaws of the Japanese cars. Go for it If you can afford its maintenance

ran a scan already sir. got p0300, p0301, p0303, p0305 and p1136 (intake valve timing control solenoid valve bank 2)
Have the intake valve control solenoid changed. Before that check for corrosion, excessive oil contact, check for B+ voltage, test solenoid to see its performance. If you have a professional scan tool, activate the solenoid to confirm if it works. Good luck

Please I need help on how to solve this Maxima code.

I have cleared the code it came back

I have also changed the solenoid valve, the code did not go.

My mechanic said he will fix it. He told me he will try some things until he gets it, that if I change 100 solenoid valves it will be thesame.

He is charging me 25K for the fix cus he said it is a tough work to do. The car has been with him now for close to 4 weeks. The last time I checked on him, he has the timing chain cover opened down.

Really dont know what to do. He is the only one in d past that have been able to successfully solve my issues on d maxima. All othe mechanics I have used in the past usually leave the worse off than we I gave it to them. But I guess the N25K is asking is way too much plus the time frame.
25k is too much. Try the service of a road side and see how 25k turns into 150k

Car Talk › Re: Has Anyone Gotten A Car From Auction Export by mayor2013: 10:11am On May 01, 2016
AutoJoshNG:
Hello Chukel,

Please note that auction export serves as an agent that helps you buy cars from different sellers and they are registered in the USA as an exporter. Therefore, the title document of the cars bought through them is always stamped for export only. The advantage for this export only is, you won't have to pay sales tax in USA as taxes are expected to be paid in the country of destination.

Salvaged cars can be repaired, duly registered and driven on American roads but you have to pay all applicable taxes. In fact, car dealers in USA also buy cars from these same auctions like copart and they repair the cars for onward sale to American drivers.

It is a tax issue an not a roadworthiness issue.

In addition to what Gazzuzz wrote before replacement check the fitment of the old fuel pump. If alright go ahead and replace your fuel pump. Buy a complete fuel pump. Good luck

Car Talk › Re: Plz Help. AC Not Cooling When Weather Is Hot, Cools A Little When On Top Speed. by mayor2013: 12:59pm On Apr 30, 2016
Use a manifold guuage as a guide. Start the car while the car is idling insert your manifold guage both on low pressure side and high pressure side. While the car is running rev your car to about 2000 rpm, put on your ac, max. While reving go to the guage and take your reading

if your low side is high and high side is low and the needles are vibrating means there is a fault in the compressor.

If your low side is lowvand the high side is high it means there is a blockage in the system. Expansion valve

If the low side is low and high side is low it means the system is low on refrigerant

If the low side & high side are high it means the system is over charged

Dear Nairalanders I need expert advice on what to do. I just recently bought a Camry 2009 v6 XLE thumb start but any time I drive it out and I Park, the car always refuses to start again, until I wait for about one hour before it starts. I have taken it to several mechanics and changed spark plugs, kick starters and even recently, somebody suggests it could be the fuel pump. This morning, another mechanic advice that I change the Crank shaft position sensor. Am confused.
Has anyone experienced this before and how do I go about having a permanent solution to this problem. Even in very thick hold-up on the road, I dare not switch off ignition.
This is where proper diagnosis comes in. A lot of things can cause this issue. First is to run a scan. No diagnosis done yet and you have started changing parts huh. Sounds like a security issue to me. If you are in lagos and you need solution to the problem call multi autolab on 08165520837 or 08156087872 sounds like one of those flooded cars in town

Hello Mr. Sienna, please i have been trying to get your attention. Please can it use a single tipped platinum spark plug for a 2000 Toyota Sienna. 3.0Litre, V6 engine. The manual states PK20TR11, double platinum spark plugs. They are not available and i stay in Abuja. I use copper double tipped denso plugs. That's what is available here.
If you use a single tipped platinum. Your car would misfire. Owners manual states other wise so follow what it says. Call 08156087872 or 08165520837 if you need PK20TR11

When I gradually accelerate, the engine fires fine but when I suddenly step on the pedal it puffs before responding. The problem has been on for some time now. I suspect the timing or the fuel supply cos I have checked the plugs. Does anybody have a solution?
A lot could that ranging from

Mass airflow meter
Low fuel pressure
Speed reference sensor

First thing is do a comprehensive scan on your car. If you are in lagos and you need to solve the problem. Call 08165520837 or 08156087872

Oga if you have your money. Better buy your car in naija. If you intend to buy it in the US have some1 check on the car for you. These white guys are scammers. They are professionals compared to the blacks. I can tell you their tactics. They give you a good room for comfort making you feel all is alright. All you would hear is "calm down man every thing is fine". Dealt with a whole lot of them and i can tell you they are thieves. My advice is buy your car here in naija or have some1 inspect the car on your behalf and make the payment as well

Travel › Re: My Embarrassing And Horrible Experience At King Shaka Airport South Africa by mayor2013: 12:43pm On Apr 25, 2016
lolaxavier:
This is quite strange to me and I am not sure if there are people on this platform that would have had similar experience at one point or the other.
I had this client meeting that made me fly to Durban sometimes last week. While waiting to pick up my bag from the conveyor belt at King Shaka airport upon arrival, one of the security men brought in a hybrid dog (one eye was black, the other somewhat blue) to sniff around the luggages and trust me, I had no headache with that because I have seen such before elsewhere and besides, no be only my bag the dog dey smell.

I finally picked up my bag after the belt rolled around for several annoying minutes and headed straight for the airport exit, alongside my colleague from our Kenya office who we departed Dubai together on the same flight. He was also billed to attend the same meeting, also a colleague from the Nigeria office who came in much later with a different flight.

Moving along, I was stopped by one of the immigration officers while my Kenya guy wasn't stopped. The kenya guy black pass me well well, so i wasn't stopped based on skin colour. Guess it was my green naija passport that gave me away. I obliged and after narrating my mission in Durban, the guy scribbled the information on my passport on a piece of paper and afterwards, my bags and I were searched but just sparingly. Nothing found. I angrily packed my bags. Almost exiting the airport, i heard someone calling out and looked back to see another immigration officer pacing fast towards me, asking me to stop, then gestured me into another room. One would think they finally caught me with cocaine the way i was told to enter into the room

Now my fears started piling up. So many thoughts started running through my mind just in few seconds. Could it be that my colleague that came to my hotel room in Dubai slipped something in my bag, could it be my friend that stayed over at my place in Ghana a day before leaving my base hid something in my bag? Foolish thoughts though but that's what happens when you go through what i experienced.

I was in the waiting room when the security guy came in with his dog to sniff my bag. Chisos! Well, being the gentleman I am, I allowed all the rubbish and after moving around like a dog high on alomo bitters, the guy left with his dog. Then I had to unzip my bag for another manual search, this time a quick one. All said and done, nothing was found. With all the wasted time, I packed my bag once again and left.

Unknowingly, just as I was about narrating my experience to my colleague from Nigeria when he arrived at the hotel, he started lamenting his similar experience too at the same airport, that he actually went through the same thing I did. I think our green-covered passport is really under scrutiny in that country. Is this how bad our reputation is in South Africa that we go through such profiling? Or is it just natural hatred for Nigerians? Has anyone ever experienced same or similar or was it just my friend and I that were unfortunate to go through that only on that day? It is really a shame and very embarrassing.
I was in king shaka airport last year and never experienced anything of such. I came in through joburg. The only thing I sensed was that you have to be very nice when speaking to their staffs otherwise.......
Car Talk › Re: 07 Camry Gear 13 Pin by mayor2013: 11:57am On Apr 25, 2016
Madam for issues like this. You have to be very diplomatic and calm down. If eventually you get a gear box which we are not sure if your gearbox is a culprit here. Make sure you get same 13pin that originally came with the car. The other ones are much more cheaper and you would be adviced to do a conversion. Note: you havr started desttoying that car.

Calling those men on black on black would neither not help would only be abyssal. They would keep tricking you and collecting money from both parties while keeping your mind @ rest that all is fine

Solution to your car problem;

1) get a competent mechanic to properly check what is going on.
2) run a comprehensive scan for faults on the car and get your scan result for analysis

Running a scan is a first step in the right direction
If you are in lagos and you need a solution. Call 08165520837 or 08156087872.

1) substandard battery. Original ones sell between 1500-2000
