I intend to buy a car/suv by the end of this year, and I can't seem to make up my mind on the brand. I'm looking at the following:

Toyota Solara (either of the 2 models)
Honda EOD (or the coupé)
Nissan Xterra (2004 model, the one with round headlamps)
Volkswagen Golf 4 or 5

I work on the Island and live in the mainland. This is a car I'd be using EVERYDAY. In terms of cost of maintenance, fuel efficiency and economy, which is the best to purchase?

Thanks bro. Today, I got my catalytic converter fixed back and just as I suspected, the performance didn't change. I got the car scanned thoroughly by two very experienced mechanics. The error code remained P3041. The last mechanic said the error code could mean two things; faulty Camshaft sensor or that the timing chain is stretched. We changed the sensors (tokunbo, as new was not available) and the codes remained. He's strongly suspecting the chain and advised we check that out. Now I'm getting a little worried because this is a tokunbo engine and I don't want this stress.
Well, I already called the guy who sold the engine and he said he will get someone from honda place abuja to look at it.
My poser is ; is it possible to repair the stretched chain without any implications? Experts, please respond. Thanks

I have a 2009 V6 Toyota Camry car, anything am speeding up to 60 km it will start vibrating, after a while it stop maybe around 80 or 100 km. Pls what could be the cause and solutions.
Car gurus in the house your useful advice will be needed.
Also i discovered that the gear oil leaks randomly. How do the fix the oil leakage without bringing down the gear.

Hello guys,

I recently changed my power plugs and plug coils and i noticed that the gear selector of the other gears (i.e 3,2,1) light blinks at random in addition to the 'D' highlight when i drive . This problem occurs as often as i drive . What could be the cause ?

Please sombody should help me my hunda pilot is leaking and splashing gear oil on the engine and i dont know where its leaking from, this hapens mostly when am driving on the high way.

Good Morning all! Only the ignition works but it doesn't start for proper warming not to talk of driving, the mechanics have checked the turtle and the kick was just repaired, called my rewire to checked fuel pump also, which pumps out fine, it's a manual drive and have been using it for 4 years now. What could be the cause pls? treat as urgent. Thanks!

abeg save me o. my car is driving me crazy.wen u strt it it in the morining or wen cold it works normal. But immediately the engine is hot and u accelerate it jacks and will only stop and stabilize wen u release the turtle.
it slows down to almost a crawl wen climbing hill and gives a funny sound in the engine as if the engine has knocked.
.please more experienced car owners, engineers and technicians should please post the probable cause and solution .thanks

I don't understand what you mean by "destruction of 270k " the catalytic converter removed from is still with me, and I'm beginning to feel it's not the problem with the car, even though it runs a little faster without it. I intend to fix it back this weekend when I have the time. The little research I did on the cat only emphasised that it's importance is basically to reduce pollution via emission. I couldn't find where the removal is linked to any potential engine damage, though I noticed more fuel consumption since the removal, which I was told is expected (I may be wrong though). Thanks for sharing your thoughts....

HI guys. I think I should open this thread having gained valuable information on other threads. Information is indeed power and i must say that had i visited this section earlier, I would have saved a lot of money.

I drive a 2008 honda accord 2.4L. I'm a novice when it comes to cars and I rely on a trusted friend to handle my car issues. The initial problem after I bought the car was noise from the engine whenever I start it in the morning. The metals and bearing were replaced to solve the problem . The noise didn't go after the replacement and I also noticed the car was losing oil(shortage without leakage) after a while. Somehow, the noise got bad and became noticeable when I rev to around 2000rpm. I replaced same parts again. All these while, there was no error codes on the dash, save for TPMS, which pops up and disappears.

Fast forward, when the noise became louder, especially each time I restart the car or rev up to 2000rpm, my obviously incompetent and exploitative mechanic told me to get the crankshaft replaced. I did and the problem wouldn't stop. At this point, the CEL came on and the car wouldn't rev beyond 3000rpm. Also, the car would not idle well anymore.

I decided to replace the engine. I got another engine through a new mechanic in Apo for 270k. Upon fixing the new engine, the car appeared better and the noise was gone.

However, I noticed that the VSA and CEL came on 5 minutes into test -driving the new engine. I also discovered that the car revs well but doesn't gain speed on time. The engine seller, in a bid to solve the problem, suggested I remove my catalyst converter which he claimed was bad. I drove the car without the convertor (I still have mine in the boot of the car). The car ran a little better, but the VSA and CEL remained.

The noise from the engine is completely gone, even when I start it in the morning. The new engine sounds good, but the car wouldn't gain speed on time. Through a friend, the car was scanned and the error code P0341 (ECM Failure) came on. The code was cleared and showed up again. I'm just exhausted. I need to get this right this time. I need a competent hand to handle this. I'm also open to recommendations pls. My location is abuja. Thanks

I drive a toyota highlander 2003 and I have been having some issues with it recently.

-When i start the car in the morning (or even in the evening at close of work) and the engine is still cold, the car hesitates and i practically have to apply some effort to the accelerator before the car moves especially if its on a rough or uneven surface; the car doesnt move well until I have driven for some time then it picks speed

- I notice that when this hesitation happens, when the car responds; it suddenly surges forward

- When at top speed the car moves excellently well

- When in traffic and it requires that apply the brake and accelerator intermittently, the car "groans' as the car moves forward. This however does not happen when i am moving at top speed and i do not need to stop or apply the brake

-I have done a scan of the car and the error codes are :P0155,P0135,P0302,P0304,P0306,P0010,P0020,C0205,C0210,C0215,C1241,C0278.
-I was advised to change the plugs, tune up the nozzles and change three defective ignition coils; all these had been done but the situation has not improved

Could someone please advise on possible cause of this and solution?
