I should add though that you ought to have gotten your share certificates by now or returned money depending on the outcome of your application....given that Access Bank is also teething through its acquisition of Intercontinental Bank, you will have to play the vulture - exercise an extreme deal of patience - and prepare for an unreal price valuation relative to your initial investment...cheers...

InvestmentRe: Online Trading In Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by mayoroflag(m): 3:52pm On Feb 26, 2013
The Nigeria Stock Exchange allows only companies registered with it and CAC, based on some additional criteria, to trade. These companies are called stockbroking firms. The stockbroking firms trade through individuals called authorized dealing clerks who are chartered stockbrokers licensed to trade on behalf of stockbroking firms on the Nigeria Stock Exchange.

In order to improve their business reach, the stockbroking firms are leveraging on technology to enable customers to place orders to purchase or sell stocks. It is usually advertised as online trading, but it is actually placing of an order, instructing the stockbroking firm/ stockbroker to buy or sell as the case may be. Some of these firms include ARM, Meristem, to name a few.

To enjoy this service, your will run through the gamut of account opening process (just like opening an account with a bANK). Upon completion of that process, the stockbroking firm also proceed to open an online account for you where you can monitor your holdings and place orders with them. To you it is online trading, but to stockbroking firm it is just placing an order.
InvestmentRe: Online Trading In Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by mayoroflag(m): 3:00pm On Feb 26, 2013
Some brokers also make it possible for you to monitor the value of your stock through the account that you maintain with them, such that the value of the stock adjusts according the closing price of the stocks at the end of daily trading.

However, you can also do this by using for various sites (e.g. www.proshareng.com) for monitoring stock prices after 3.00pm each workday and use excel to monitor the effect of prices on your investments.
InvestmentRe: Online Trading In Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by mayoroflag(m): 2:55pm On Feb 26, 2013
There are 2 levels of trading - by stockbroker and by client.

Only a chartered registered stockbroker can trade directly or remotely on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

In order to trade your shares, you are required to place your orders with a stockbroker/ stockbroking firm. However, some Nigerian stockbroking firms now have facilities that enable you to place your order online either by email or directly on their site through an online account that you open with them.

Cheers...

Avoid the arguments. The markets will decide. Unfortunately the markets are on the side of Unis most of the time. Polytechnics do have application advantage in some courses and some schools have made good use of proving so (ask ICAN, CIBN etc. where HND grads are more rated than B.Sc).

However, some top-flight industries, especially investment banking/ management, auditing, consulting and some commercial banks insist on B.Sc holders. Life is short, they won't wait to listen to you proving your competence as a HND holder. Get a 6 month upgrade from a UK university by distance learning :www.rdi.co.uk

drzed: It is only in places like Nigeria (where people are allergic to progress) that PhD is synomymous to lecturing.

For the avoidance of doubt, a PhD gives you expertise (in your area).

Whether you elect to use this expertise in a lecture hall, research institution, a multi-national or your private entrepreneurship is up to you.

PhD holders are problem solvers (in their own domain) but also have a wider grasp of research methodology. Unfortunately, some so-called PhD holders in Nigeria (including a few associated with leadership) have failed to demonstrate the minimum level of intellectual acumen, commensurate with the title.
Asis: well said..
Yes o, this guy killed it. PhD means you are not afraid to go into any area of your field and create value within it. Foreign AffairsRe: Blacks Are Educated To Feel Inferior - Dr Bedford Umez by mayoroflag(m): 5:46pm On Feb 01, 2013
There is no miseducation.

We have just experienced value systems that have tended to reinforce an inferiority complex (for instance, our cultures naturally place premium on foreign cultures). In fact a few of our systems actually encourage a superiority complex but a failure to be able to express this into English or demonstrate superior economic management and science in political economy is what is largely undermining whatever sense of superiority might have been achieved.

Also even in systems with obvious problems, the elites in any black society are not usually willing to give way to competent people to drive their community's greatness. In fact during the early independence years in AFRICA, such people were eliminated by imprisonment and left to die in sickness and neglect (with largely the exception of Mandela and a few others under twisted circumstances).

Africans have not evolved from the illusion of the absoluteness of their leaders, which the whites, Asians and recently, some Arab nations have emerged from.

It will take a combination of education and common interests that go beyond our ethnic and religious barriers for now. Until then, the transition continues.

N.B Note that Obama is not a product of this system. This made it easy for him to be easily accepted and for him to de-emphasise the victimist mentality that continues to plague most black Americans.

Look at what northern leadership can bring to the table - Federal Character, a synonym for fairness or a good deal, even though nothing has been brought to the table.

I'm waiting for that Northern Leadership that will realise that their true salvation lies in true Federalism. This IBB address can only be interpreted as the admitted powerlessness of the "core" northern rulership now that they realise that they are now more or less at a receiving end of a backfired structure they initially created to perpetuate their influence and hold on power at the centre.

The correction, as they see it now, is only a tip of the iceberg. Ask BH and the nameless "gunmen" plying their trade of terror with sorrow, tears and blood all over the Caliphate and Bornu kingdom....

For someone likely to pitch with any babe from any parts (I actually hoped a fulani christian sometime), this is some serious eye opener.

@ Op I'm a yoruba man, but I think the issue is more about trust and the degree of individuality you are willing to allow your spouse to maintain even though you are both married. If she loses that individuality won't you be losing an important part that led to you both being married in the first place.

Also remember, she has been using this language in her family for @ least the first 25 years of her (largely formative) life with people who had her interest at heart before entrusting her to you. Guy....give her/them some flak o....!

- Common Law that promoted equity, minority rights and private property were replace with Islam oriented land use laws after the fashion of the Middle East and rights to minerals ceded to the government, like the Arabs
- Nigeria almost became an Islamic Republic in 1985
- Nigeria became a full member of OIC
- Nigerian constitution became non-secular intoducing adoption of sharia in states without consideration of religious minorities/ minority protection
- Nigeria began to experience Islamic persecution of peaceloving Christians by extremists groups which cannot be bridled because they have support within government circles and the elites
- Nigerian banks led by christians were upturned by the CBN (even though rightfully, while you can observe that 2 long distressed muslim-led banks which were worse off and arguably still are, are still existing today)

Which unholy alliance?

- What of the beast in which Daniel was the highest ranking civil servant, serving a king that sought divination by the (human?) liver
- What of the another beast in which Paul was a friend of an erratic King and his household
- So the alliance between US, England, Canada, Uganda, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, South Africa (note that the Dutch Reformist church has succeeded in preventing Porn channels in SA) and their churches is unholy abi?
- When Paul was persecuted for preaching, he claimed his right as a roman citizen.
- Paul and Peter influenced the policies of Cornelius and Nero while God gave them chance and this has been repeated through history.
- God never asked us to abandon politics, it was when we replaced obedience to God with personal zeal that things went upside down for Nigerian christians
- For as long as GOD permits us to wrestle governance from the grip of the god of this world with FAITH AND WORKS, we are free to do so. The foundation laid by christian influence in western countries leadership, though disappearing is benefitting even other so-called ungodly countries today.
- Bahamas is a case study of a god-fearing christian influenced political leadership. Also South Korea. Is there an unholy alliance?

Christianity EtcRe: Bankole Solomon Criticizes Pastor Adeboye Over Politicians by mayoroflag(m): 2:33pm On Dec 27, 2012
"I've been a pastor in Redeemed for the past 10 years and I've not got any opportunity to sit on that altar not to talk of holding mic. If because Jonathan is a President and he is recognized, it means some are more equal than others."

Pastor Bankole, I've been in RCCG since 1984, my father became a full Pastor in 1992. Up until 2009, I never saw him minister on the altar and he probably never did. Some Pastors who have been in RCCG before the General Overseer have never ministered on that altar.

In reality though this statement of yours has only betrayed an underlying issue beyond whether it was right or not for GEJ to have been treated to a VIP status on the church altar. Is this criticism about you or about Jonathan?

When we criticise Pastors openly (and an older one at that) we flout a admonition in the Bible where Paul said Timothy (and any other minister) should not rebuke an elder, but call him aside and admonish him with the assistance of other elders in the church.

(Breaking that rule as a necessity) I fault your opinion on the treatment of GEJ. For long christianity in NIGERIA has been an ostrich head in the sand so far as politics is concerned. Our apolitical stance almost cost us a secular republic in 1985 - but it has cost us a secular costitution with an increasingly vocal fundamentalist Islamic movement to boot. (In any case we are a member of the OIC, remember?). We failed to insist on reflecting our values in national policies and now see what Nigeria has become to us... Even the Bible testifies of the positive influence of Christianity on Cornelius and Nero (Ceasar's household in the last chapter of Romans). We need all the influence we can get to call leaders to order and influence them to pursue policies that reflect the secularist, equitable and minority protecting perspective of our christian population.

Let us avoid confusing the general public on matters of christianity as there are more than enough enemies for us to handle already - within and without.

PoliticsRe: What Role Do We Play To Reduce Corruption In Nigeria? by mayoroflag(m): 11:29am On Dec 21, 2012
We need to encourage business at arms length. Another word for that is capitalism or markets system. This system does not eradicate corruption but it reduces it. It also encourages openness, competition and innovation and everybody see and knows why someone deserves something. Remember NITEL and all the 4 former government banks. Remember also that you usually have a choice to buy something cheaper for better quality because more than one option is always available to you. When government forces us to use only one means to access goods or services, it creates room for people to load inefficiencies on the customer who is forced to pay for it all. This why NEPA has not been successfully privatized all these years.

We need to question socialists in government, civil servants and labour unions who claim to be advancing the interests of the people while they are actually amassing ill-gained wealth. This also includes your NANS executive in your school.

I also believe that the police should be decentralized across to states, but they will form part of the judiciary rather than report to the governor or local government chairman.

We need to encourage government to use tax as its MAJOR source of revenue and not oil. With tax and a source of income, government (and its staff) will be forced to think of how to create wealth opportunities in every sector which can then be taxed. It will also need to improve its revenue generation drive to bring every employable Nigeria under tax. Why is this important? Because if everybody is paying their taxes, some, if not most, will be interested in what their money is being used for. In US, it was payment of tax that made its residents to begin to ask for independence from UK. The slogan then was "no taxation without representation". It might sound suicidal, but I believe we should now be saying "no representation without taxation" in Nigeria.

Also let us begin to ask the governers questions on what we have been committed to. For example, our constitution says "We the people..." and annexes the oil mineral wealth in Niger Delta in the name of all Nigerians. Yet the country does not run a free total National Health program, an Unemployment Benefits Programme, a free education programme and a retirement benefits programme that all Nigerians (even Niger Delta people) are entitled to....

PoliticsRe: The Fallacy Of Demonizing Capitalism by mayoroflag(op): 3:12pm On Nov 19, 2012
I will agree with you that if assets are being nationalized in the name of "We, the people of Nigeria", that we deserve to be entitled to social bebefits in the areas of health, education, unemployment, retirement etc. This model can be expensive to run even for the richest economies but that should not be an excuse for the Nigerian government.

That said, I need you to note that our reality is that we have laws showing that our government is people oriented while in reality like you said industrialists have hijacked the process.

Nevertheless Nigeria is not practicing capitalism. This is what I sought to clarify on this thread. What we are practicing is selective applications of economic ideologies that suits the interest of the Federal Government, the people in power, or their constituencies.

Meanwhile, you cited various people who are taking advantage of the masses. But you are not citing people who are supposed to be pro-socialist who are also taking advantage of the masses. This is worse as it is betrayal of so many things, something that the so-called capitalist do not pretend about.

Also noted that it was under socialist/ nationalized handling that a lot of our industries were poorly managed and had to be resold to these people to ensure they get us the value we want from them.
PoliticsThe Fallacy Of Demonizing Capitalism by mayoroflag(op): 8:19am On Nov 19, 2012
Most of you who went to Nigerian universities will no doubt agree that socialism has constantly been the flagship economic ideology of the typical Nigerian student. In larger society our labour movements have thrived on the strength of a conspiracy to perpetually impoverish the masses. Religious institutions, especially churches are not spared the accusations of indulging the gap between the rich and poor.

Africans students largely revolted against capitalism during the 60s and 70s largely with the backing communists from Russia who infiltrated our unions and student bodies. Various military dictatorships in Africa rode on that crest to enact laws and legacies that remain with us today.

What is now the gain in having been socialistic? In Nigeria, the appropriation of mineral rights to the Federal Govt and the nationalization of various industries are demonstrations of our socialistic tendencies. How have we fared with those choices, as compared for instance with Asian countries, some of who came to understudy our work methods and for whom we have largely become a dumping ground today and who do not mince words about their belief in capitalism? Note that in Asia too the socialist economies remain the most backward just as in Europe and Latin America.

Have we been deceived by those who sought to gain power under any guise? Is capitalism truly evil?

In Europe before the advent of "modern" capitalism there was a feudal system in existence. The advent of science and increased liberties led to a crossroad of choices for Europeans, between socialism and capitalism. In Africa, we had not recovered from the feudal structures that existed before capitalism was thrust on us. Indeed, socialism could not be implented except largely on government and foreign owned property.

Haven't we been taken for a ride? Isn't it the nationalized structures in Nigeria that breed the most corruption? Except for a few outstanding union leaders, isn't it obvious that people are merely pursuing their personal interest under the guise of pursuing people's interest? Even in China information on the new General Secretary is being censored because his family members are multibillionaires.

Why do Africans demonize capitalism and describe industrial leaders with derogatory socialist terminologies that are unfounded?
