Ngwakwe:Ok...I cant disagree with you on that. . You are correct! |
SomebodyLovesMe:You are correct! Articulation is a vehicle for the communicable ideas. The ideas can be super appealing but if not put across fancifully the human ear finds it boring and noisy, then recoils from accepting it. Fancy expression and good looks is what put Obama in White House....America could care less about his intelligence! Fancy speech worked for JFK, Clinton and Reagan. Reagan particularly was a smooth operator with words....being an actor and used to stage and romance! |
Laykorn, Can you share with us where your brother, Ishaka Paul is going to get money for an annual payment to1000 youths...beside all the other free stuffs he earlier promised? |
Allright, let us give her slack! Out of failure comes success. This is Mary's first outing as a political leader. Her inability to articulate her position should not necessarily be viewed as a reflection of ability to lead. Im sure she will correct her shortcomings going forward...who knows where fate may position her in the future of our sovereignty. We need to empathize and stop beating on people for not speaking well in public. Lets start assessing 'can do' spirit! |
Ngwakwe:....this takes me back to my debate episodes in secondary school. This is a preparatory stage! What research outcomes, what policies? I agree with you on statistics and the last two lines in your input. |
laykorn:na Nigeria own oil market? Even OPEC no fit do that. |
MEILYN:Lmao, I agree! ![]() If he's not offering a free programme, he is completing projects in one year! He is a super hero! |
laykorn:lmao! The man na Patience Jonathan's kin. |
Florence Oluremi has the best response so far in each of the categories. The moderator should ask follow up questions and probe Ishaka Paul about his free this, free that programmes. How does he plan to fund the programmes? Im sure the guy got his eyez on oil. Ole! Florence is the only one realistic. She is focusing on trade and commerce, which suggests she plans on using tax revenue to fund programmes. She is the kind of Nigerians we need to lead the way forward. APC should have a chat with her and bring her on their platform as one of their policy makers or contributors. What do you all think? |
Face your front! ![]() The Professor is alive! |
M4gunners:mumu...you just wasted a gigabyte of brain data stating what is obvious. If I was Igbo would I be Mayor of Lagos? Suegbe!! ![]() |
Redoil:You left this guy out of your list..... Ojukw U |
Donmarrius:Nwafor, calm down! His letter was not addressed to you, it was addressed to Ohanaeze, the apex and the foremost Igbo political head. If you have a problem or grievance to air, kindly address to your leadership in Enugu. Please send copies so that each faction of Ohaneze receive your complaint. |
Well, many people in Alaba International Market and other market places are into armed robbery or other illegal businesses.Yes ke....Ladipo, ASPAMDA, Idunmota, ati bebe lo..... Is there anyone left in doubt of where Ibo get money to build house or live large? bloody CRIMINALS!

tit:Hey tit, I have a deal for you. I know thats not you in profile pic but I will put the deal to you anyway. ![]() If Buhari wil you will go out on a date with your Mayor. Deal? ![]() |
Ishilove, Seun, I never request front page presence for my postings. Im requesting one for this article. This is a national news and politically relevant. |
A LETTER written by the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to the leadership of the Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, the umbrella socio-cultural organisation of Nd’Igbo, is at the root of the current crisis threatening the organisation. Not long ago, there was an attempt by yet-to-be identified persons to destroy the Ohanaeze Secretariat at No 7 Park Road, GRA, Enugu, even as a splinter group, led by the first republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, continues to battle the Gary Enwo Igariwey-led executive over the duration of its tenure. However, investigations by The Guardian revealed that, contrary to the argument by the Mbazulike Amaechi that the tenure of the Ohanaeze executive is for a period of two years, the letter from Buhari seeking audience with leaders of Nd’Igbo actually sparked off the hostilities. It was gathered that after the South East spokesman of the APC, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, brought the letter personally signed by General Buhari, an argument ensued between Amaechi and the Ohanaeze leaders over how and where the APC presidential candidate should be received. In the letter — titled: “Request for Consultative Meeting” and dated November 7, 2014 — Buhari had written: “A time comes in the history of nations, when the ligaments holding the nation are stretched to their very ends, creating uncertainty, despair and general despondency to pervade the land. It is without pleasure that I say our country is once at crossroads. “This regrettably is where none of us wants our dear nation to be; and it is because of this unpleasant scenario that I am persuaded by many Nigerians to come forward again to seek for your votes, in order to halt Nigeria’s dangerous slide into anarchy and possible state failure. “In coming to the inevitable conclusion to seek your support and lend my humble service again to our fatherland, I considered it pertinent to hold consultations with all communities nationwide in order to build a mutually acceptable national consensus. Needless to add, no national consultation will be complete or meaningful without a meeting with the leadership of Ohanaeze NdIgbo. “Since I cannot assume to know all the pressing issues facing Ndigbo or what Ndigbo expect of the new Nigeria we wish to build, I would greatly appreciate if you could kindly arrange a consultative meeting with Ohanaeze Ndigbo where we could discuss and try to determine how this could best be done”. But no sooner had the letter gotten to the Ohanaeze leaders than the subject matter divided them because while Chief Amaechi was said to have told the Ohanaeze executive led by Igariwey that he should be allowed to host Buhari and his delegation at his country home, the Ohanaeze leaders objected. A source close to Amaechi confided in The Guardian that the elder statesman, having noticed the body language of the Ohanaeze leaders towards possible endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan, contended that, as the most senior living political actor in Igbo land, he should be the one to receive the Buhari delegation. “But the Igariwey executive insisted that since the letter was addressed to Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, Buhari and his delegation should be received at the Ohanaeze Secretariat. The argument was partly the reason the issue of endorsement of President Jonathan was shelved until all the various contestants must have met with Ohanaeze,” the source disclosed adding that the crisis was instigated to ensure that each faction could endorse a different presidential candidate. As at the time of filing this report, neither Chief Igariwey nor Chief Amaechi could be reached for comments. - See more at: http://m.ngrguardiannews.com/en/news/national-news/196179-how-buhari-s-letter-to-ohanaeze-stoked-crisis#sthash.iXZ6cfms.dpuf |

Obasanjo, Ekwueme and the Igbo vote By Okey Ikechukwu Perhaps, we should remind ourselves that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was not set up to enthrone Dr. Alexander Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, or any other Igboman/woman for that matter, as President. It was set up as a political party. That makes it an association of persons with similar ideas on governance, who choose from within their ranks men and women to contest for public office. One member, or a thousand members, may indicate interest in an elective office, but only one person will carry the party's banner. Supporters of party members who are angling for nomination will naturally wish to have their man or woman nominated by the party. It is, therefore, understandable that some ardent supporters of Dr. Ekwueme, especially the Igbos among them, are pained by Gen. Obasanjo's clear victory in the presidential primaries of the PDP. They expected and wanted their man to win. He did not. Some of them assumed that Ekwueme's involvement with the G-34, a group of eminent patriots who practically challenged Sani Abacha to a wrestling match, would put him in good stead. It did not, apparently. There was also the presumption that Ekwueme's position as former Vice President of the Federation, his role in the formation of the PDP, his position in the party, as well as his academic pedigree would turn the table. Nothing of the sort happened. Which accounts for what sounds like the groans or unrequited love among some Igbo commentators: "After all that we have done for them, see how they are treating us". It is also mostly among persons who mumble thus that you hear talk about an Igbo protest vote against Obasanjo. With all due respects to such people and without prejudice to the grounds for their grouse, it must be said that they are standing clear thinking on its head. Are they saying that the delegates to the PDP primaries had no right to choose anyone else, except Ekwueme? Are they saying that the party elections were not free and fair, and transparently so? The talk about the use of money falls on its face because the voting procedure allowed delegates to vote for whomsoever they wished, undetected. If the elections were not rigged and the purpose of the primaries was to choose a presidential flagbearer, then it is reasonable to say that such a person has emerged. There will always be power play within political parties. A supposed "vengeance" vote against Obasanjo is hardly to be recommended. Of all the zones, the South West sent the least number of delegates to the PDP primaries. Obasanjo got nearly 70 per cent of the total votes cast and was, therefore, not a "Yoruba" candidate. Most of the winning votes allegedly came from the northern delegates, which could then be interpreted to mean that the man was/is their candidate. Still there is the question: why is the Igboman/woman complaining about losing in an unimpeachable democratic contest? The battle-cry of a response is, "we are marginalized". I beg your pardon: you tried but you lost. You mean you did not see it coming? Events of the last six years, more than any other thing, give enough pointers to the position of {Ndigbo,} decades after the civil war. Negotiations and consultations leading up to the formation of Babangida's Interim National Government (ING) was begun and concluded without involving the core East in any way. When it became clear that that nitwit of a government could not help Nigerians or help itself, arrangements were made for its burial ceremony. Consultations, again, excluded the East. Igbo men/women have held political office, but none of them has smelt power. It is perhaps only Arthur Nzeribe and one or two other silent Igbo operators that have come very close to being in power. Can Ofonagoro, Chukwumerije, Nwobodo, John Nwodo, Gen. Momah, Madueke, etc., facilitate things the way a Jubril Aminu, a Shehu Idris, or a Gidado Idris does for people? The on-going transition program is supposed to go in tandem with the reorientation of soldiers and the society at large. The soldiers, we hear, have been organizing and doing their reorientation programme. We also hear of sundry Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and fora organizing one thing or the other on how things should be "in a democracy". But there is a National Orientation Agency (NOA). That agency ought to be the busiest in the country today. But the visibility and relevance it enjoys now come in the form of occasional advertisements on television. These advertisements enjoy the merit of having no impact at all. The NOA would most probably have been the only viable transition instrument of the sleeping regime of Gen. Abubakar today if it was headed by a "powerful Nigerian". And, before the core East hurries off to cast its protest vote(s), let us not forget that the Igboman/woman of today is severely disadvantaged. Power, military might and mind-blowing cash reserves have been cornered and secured by the Middle Belt and the North. Mineral wealth is, strictly speaking, in the South-South, a region that now has its own Direct Line. The bureaucracy and the advantage of good education reside with the Yoruba people. The anti-Yoruba tone of some of the doings of the Abacha regime was severely frustrated by the legion of qualified Yorubas who could replace all displaced persons three times over. And what does the core East have? Distributive trade? Is that something? One decision from those in power and you are flat on your back. There is coal in the core East alright. There is even oil in Anambra State. But that huge oil deposit is not going to be exploited. The reason is that the Federal Government has put it under National Reserves: Meaning that nobody would touch it until all the other wells run dry in, say, 100-500 years' time. That decision of the Federal Government was made by those in power, the way they make other decisions that have led to the ruin of the Niger Delta. Thus, while Anambra State has oil that could give it wealth, it has no voice in power. The PDP governor-elect in the state recently called for a reclassification of the oil deposit, so that it can be exploited; but he was only speaking on television. Dr. Alex Ekwueme has demonstrated great maturity by standing solidly behind Gen. Obasanjo, his party man. It is the party and its programs they want to win, not themselves. That is party loyalty and the true spirit of democracy. There is no denying the fact that the less-than-elegant enthusiasm of some of Ekwueme's Igbo supporters worked against the man. To now carry that enthusiasm to the point of self-immolation is to stretch the limits of rational discontent. Protest votes and sojourn in the political wilderness is political illiteracy. Stand up, work with structures, fight for relevance in several ways. Power, not office, please. Today, the Igboman/woman is not in power and he is not trusted by the North. The question on the lips of {Ndigbo} is, "What have we done"? {Nke a bu nke bu ezi okwu} (This is the plain truth)! As for Gen. Obasanjo, this is the time for him to do {his own will} in power. He cannot heal the wounds of the nation if he condones existing inequities and allows the international community to continue to hold us in contempt. All said, the man is truly behaving more like a politician: laughs easily, lacks the alienating rigid bearing of a Buhari, and generally rumbles with the crowd. A lot has gone wrong in the land. One of the things that went wrong was the unjust conviction of the same Obasanjo for alleged coup-plotting. He should not become President in order to 'deal' with his "enemies". Barring any surprises from the barracks, Gen. Obasanjo should show us what it means to be a quintessential statesman, {when} (not if) he is elected. He has no real opponent now. Okechukwu, a doctor of philosophy, is a Lagos-based policy analyst and writer for The Guardian newspaper of Lagos, Nigeria. The Igbo-Ukwu museum in Anambra state is supposed to be one of the leading museums in Nigeria, but all is not well with the treasure house – on account of years of neglect and pilfering of its conent of its priceless artifacts. Agozino Agozino, who visited the museum, recently, writes on the almost abandon antiquity house. Igbo Ukwu Museum run by the Anambra State Ministry of Youths, Sports and Culture, is one of the few museums owned by State governments in Nigeria. And like other repositories across the country, the museum has suffered unrelieved neglect. The first thing that greets a visitor, on arriving at the entrance to the antiquity house, is that the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has disconnected it for many years. And no one could tell what is being done about it or why the building, which houses priceless Igbo heritage would be in darkness. Since 2007, when the museum was disconnected from the public electricity supply, for non-payment of bills as gathered by Daily Times, it has remained in darkness. Apart from lack of electricity, the museum has no source of running water. Going inside the museum proper, one is shocked as to what the entire museum looks like. The walls and ceiling showed signed of having soaked up water for months, if not for many years, and to worsen matters, the ceiling is hanging insecurely. Founded in 1989 according to sources, the Igbo-Ukwu Museum comprises six sections. Sadly, however, the remnants of exhibits in the museum are covered by dust and the whole house looks unkempt. Apart from the fact that this is a museum that took off to a flying start only for it to suddenly lose steam, and would be abandoned for decades, everything inside the museum looks abandoned. Although a national museum now operates in Igbo-Ukwu, but the Igbo-Ukwu museum opened years before the National Commission for Museum and Monument (NCMM) station started in the town, which is part of Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State is a sorry sight. Daily Times gathered that neglect by the successive Anambra State government may explain why, today, the structure is a shell of its old self. When it was founded, the museum represented hope. But, today, that hope has been dashed. The museum is almost buried by weeds; the walls are damp, and the roofs are virtually caving in. Unfortunately, efforts by Daily Times to talk to the curator of the museum, which stands on Ekwuluobia-Nnewi road was abortive, as one staff, who craved anonymity, said that permission must be obtained before the curator can talk. Like many other museums in Nigeria, the Igbo-Ukwu Museum had been targeted by looters, and over the years, priceless pieces of ancient bronze, sculptures, brass heads, wooden heads, masks and doors have been looted and in most cases, end up in Europe. In one instance, the looters of the museum, dealt the security guards a telling blow. At another time, the thieves carted away several original ancient artifacts – including a wooden face mask, believed to be shrine piece. Traditional ruler of Igbo-Ukwu, Igwe Martin Eze, said that uncountable artifacts and other ancient art works have so far been stolen from the museum. “It is a sad thing for us here, that art thieves don’t even respect our culture. They have looted this museum on several occasion and at each time taking away many of the artifacts in this place,’’ Eze said. “Three chieftaincy sword’’ a ceremonial staff, two bronze bells, five bronze amulet, five ivory bangle and three face masks were also listed among what had been looted. The Igbo-Ukwu Museum origin could be said to date as far back to 1939, when Mr. Isaiah Anozie discovered many bronze sculptures, while digging to build a cistern in his compound. - See more at: http://m.dailytimes.com.ng/article/igbo-ukwu-museum-tears#.VMxz3KNOnFo

AkinEgba:Zahra is not your First Lady, she won't even be the first daughter because she is not the eldest child. Although she will have prominence as an image maker for Nigeria and particularly for young Nigerian women. Patience, on ther hand, is the First Lady and mother. She is the front image maker for all women and mothers in Nigeria. She does not make errors in English grammar.......she simply confuses when to use grammar and when not to and end up with a mix and match usage of formal and broken english. Make sure you address me as " Your Excellency, Mayor of the City of Lagos" next time you direct response to me. ![]() |
