agathamari:stop exposing your ignorance in public. If you keep quiet, you could be considered wise. What sense did you make? Who told you what is sin to catholics in one country is accepted in another? there are loads of things wrong with the church as it is today but that does not give reason for uninformed persons to pass judement and make sweeping generalizations. |
RichyBlacK:you are not alone. i had a hard time restraining myself while reading that post. If you are outside the country, such posts make you so nostalgic that you may find yourself shedding a few tears and missing naija despite its imperfections. |
jodeci:don't expose your ignorance in public like this. which royalty? the marketer paid them (as is the practice) upfront. Whether he sold 10 copies or 1 billion copies does not change anything. this story is trash because if you listen to the album you will know that it is not a near possibility. popularity of an album must not be equated with sales. people do not buy albums as much as it is imagined. coupled with the fact that pirates copies is almost 50% of the total sales. i rarely believe any word that comes out of the mouth of the Okoyes. They are fond of exaggerating their outputs and often talk first before thinking. sometimes i wonder if they think they are talking to idiots. |
specifics about the african culture. mention specific tribe culture and aspects of the culture you are highlighting. i already have lagos on the list on account of its population and the cost of land in Banana Island. i am trying to get the accurate figures but it must rank amongst the most expensive in developing world. |
una don wreck my thread without providing the info that i requested for. at this rate i will have to can the article as i am not getting the necessary input. |
Beaf, it is an elementary known fact when a nations GDP increases, the economy is said to have grown and when it decreases, it has contracted (contract 2wice, na recession be that). Denying this basic fact makes me doubt your knowledge of elementary economics. Whether that is a correct measure of growth is another matter entirely and is not within the context of Sanusi's comment. Afterall, crop grown in the garden for consupmtion o the farmer and his family is not actored into GDP. DIY tasks that can otherwise be paid for is not factored into the GDP. GDP is not perfect,we all know but it is the accepted measure of economic growth. Disparaging Sanusi just to show off some irrelevant knowledge that is completely out of context smacks of ignorance. |
Thank you Horus, more of such please. |
SEFAGO:i never alluded to the fact that Africa is one country,so that comment is irrelevant in the context of this thread. i mean things, feats and achievements that the average foreigner who has not been here and does not dig deep in the media might have never heard. short verifiable feats. |
BlissMoney:were you hypnotised recently? |
people, please i am still waiting for inputs. |
Suraj, where are you? quickly swing into action. these guys are casting aspersion on oga's integrity and ability. |
The Anambra State Police Command has invited a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in the state, Chief Chris Uba, for questioning over the kidnap of Pa Simeon Soludo, father of the PDP candidate in the February 6, 2010 governorship election in the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. Meanwhile, the Soludo Campaign Organisation claimed last night that a group which called itself “Omega 12” had contacted the organisation demanding N5 billion as ransom to “defray political expenses”. A five-man gang of gunmen operating in a black Mercedes Benz 190 saloon car had stormed Soludo’s family house in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state, at 6.30 pm on Tuesday and abducted the 78-year-old man. Others invited for questioning are those who organised the Emmaus House rally in Awka, the state capital, against Soludo’s candidature on the same day Pa Soludo was kidnapped. The state Police Commissioner Philemon Leha, who addressed journalists yesterday at the command headquarters in Akwa, said the invitation arose from the fact that it was shortly after the rally, where scathing remarks were made against Soludo’s candidature, that his father was kidnapped while on his dinning table. Some forces within PDP in the state opposed to the candidature of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor had converged on Akwa on Tuesday to signify their rejection of Soludo as the party’s flag bearer. Led by Uba, the self-styled political godfather in the state, the anti-Soludo rally which held against the directive of the party’s South-east zonal headquarters, allegedly had in attendance 21 PDP gubernatorial aspirants. The South-east PDP zonal headquarters had through advertorials suspended the rally over information that it was scheduled to undermine the gains of the party and in particular Soludo’s choice as the standard bearer. But Uba, in a response to the police invitation, alleged that it was the Soludos that sent people to go and kidnap their patriarch only to turn round to point accusing fingers at him. He vowed to continue fighting the PDP candidate even as he said he was consulting his lawyer over the allegation. “Tell Soludo that no amount of intimidation from him will stop me from fighting him. He is a stranger in PDP and I won’t allow him to take the party ticket,” he said. Leha said it beat the imagination to note that the kidnap was carried out shortly after a group of politicians held a meeting at Emmaus House, Awka, where scathing remarks were made on the person of Soludo. “The most dangerous phase is insecurity sponsored by politicians. Just yesterday, some group of politicians held a meeting at Emmaus House, Awka where scathing remarks were made on the person of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. Just after the meeting, Chief Simeon Soludo was kidnapped and it is left for people to speculate who did it, and for what reasons,” he said. He pointedly fingered those he called desperate politicians in the state for being behind the kidnap of Pa Soludo. The police commissioner reminded them that the ballot box remains the only road to the Awka Government House and not through kidnapping people. The kidnappers who seized Pa Soludo literarily shattered the prevailing peace witnessed in the state in the last two months. Leha reiterated the command’s aversion to that kind of politics and warned strongly that the police would not fold its hands and watch politicians make nonsense of the gains that had been made in the last few months. “The command will not and cannot be intimidated henceforth; the command will deal decisively with any politician found to be fomenting trouble either by actions or words. “The command wishes to remind the politicians that the only road to government house is through the ballot box and not by kidnapping people. The popularity and acceptance can only be got by propagating and articulating ideals and selling same to the electorate with a view to winning their votes and not by buying the votes,” he said. The Coordinator of Soludo’s campaign, Chief Chike Anyaonu, had described Pa Soludo’s kidnap as unfortunate. The incident he said had thrown the entire Isuofia into confusion. Governor Peter Obi in a statement on Tuesday had also condemned the kidnap. His Senior Special Assistant on Communications, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubabuko, said the kidnap had again proved the governor’s position right that most kidnappings in the state were politically motivated. |

puskin:how does shutting unprofitable branches that were opened in the first place either to respond to political reasoning or in typical 'my benz is bigger than yours' ego tripping mean a fast shrinking of the economy? most banks are surviving on inter-bank lending and leaving above their means. all these must stop. |
Also, i have an incessant fear of the internet, I feel what i post here will one day come to haunt me, I dont know if thats true. So, I try to modify controversial posts. And in addition, I dont want people knowing too much about me, which i have indicated on my posts. Sefago, try and follow this advice and yield to the fear you expressed above. It is very true and real. |
Sanusi has noted all the disrespectful comments on this thread. Hence, he has detailed his P.A., mr. Jarus to present compelling arguments to dissuade the disrespectful bunch. Mr. Jarus, over to you, the floor is yours, |

Ibime, if Jarus catch you!!! i think he is an okay writer, just that he is a serial hero worshipper. he will do well in the company of Dele Momodu. |
i agree that the generalisation is a problem and is akin to using a blunt instrument. However, it must be said that the quality of journalism in Nigeria is on a very steep decline. this can be confirmed from a very unusual source; pick up copies of softsell papers from the late 80s and very early 90s (Classique, FAME, Prime People etc). compare it to present day copies of City People and Encomium. You will be appalled at the degeneration of journalism. the stories might be distasteful to you (depending on your taste) but you will find that the articles of previous years were well crafted, devoid of typos and engaging. pick up the trash that is published today.the language is butchered, filled with typos and seem to have been written by illiterates and for illiterates. the difference is so clear. it is the same case with the main stream papers.i was so offended by these lapses that a short while back, i lost count of the typos and grammatical errors i was seeing in Independent (the Tinubu paper) that i picked up my phone and called the editorial line that was in the editorial page.i asked to speak to the editor and was put through to him.i passionately made my misgivings clear to him and after a few minutes, the line cut. he called me back and asked for specific instances in the day's edition.i took time and pointed out about four gaffes that were unforgivable in that day's edition. He apologised and promised to make work on it. He made me promise to keep them informed if i see such again in future but few weeks later i returned back to base. |

Guys and gals, I need your help. I belong to an organisation that is a mini united nation in terms of the nationalities and races represented therein. over 20 nationalities amongst less than a hundred people.most of them are relatively ignorant about Africa and Nigeria in particular. I have been asked to contribute to the monthly in house magazine and i am doing an article on the above topic. i need you help on useful points that will constitute this 20 things. just a reminder, this group of persons are very well read and travelled (apart from Africa),so it must be points that are verifiable, intriguing but a true representation of our continent. Mostly the good that the popular media ignore. thank you and looking forward to your assistance. my deadline is this weekend (saturday night). |
guys and gals, i am not a techie person but as a regular user of numerous sites (i spend over 4 hrs a day online), i have a comment to make; grammatical errors and typos are unacceptable on any personal website. it is a no no. irrespective of how good the site is, i lose confidence in the product on display the moment i see typos or grammatical errors on the site. |
the thisday artlicle is locked (passworded). is it any different from what you posted here? you wirte like Dele Momodu (that is not a compliment). I am in support of Sanusi's steps (although he needs to be more tactful in speech), however i am not a fan. i am too distrustful of the entire Nigerian elite to be a fan of any. you hero worship of Sanusi is a bit excessive.i doubt if you would be able to analyse his actions critically. I also share the same respect for Atedo Peterside.the only Nigerian banker i respect. yet i am not comfortable with his choice of words during that town hall meeting. |

private meeting with the presidency? you are kidding me right? so this crook just breezes in and out of Aso rock? the benefits of being a 'militant'!!! theatre of the absurd. |
From Adibe Emenyonu in Benin, 10.27.2009 Ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, allias Tompolo, has urged all ex-militants and Niger Delta people, to be calm as government and ex-militant leaders find lasting solution to problems confronting them. Tompolo, who spoke to newsmen at the Benin Airport, while on his way to Abuja for a private meeting with the Presidency, assured that all the ex-militant leaders have had series of useful discussions with the Presidency. Paul Bebenimibo, who spoke for Tompolo, also urged the people to disregard the so called Aaron Committee, saying that the ex-militant leaders were capable of discussing the future of the region with the Federal Government. He assured that none of the ex-militants would be left out in the rehabilitation process, adding that if the seeming seriousness exhibited by President Yar’Adua is put into action, the people of the region would provide the conducive atmosphere for the development of the region. According to him, “every body will be carried along in this post amnesty programme. We have leaders that have been discussing and of course you know that it is not every body that will be there to discuss with the Presidency. That is why every meeting we hold with the Presidency, we go back home to brief our people. So every body should keep calm, nobody is being left out in this struggle because our resolve is to ensure that the region is developed and serious discussions are on going to achieve that”. On the Aaron team, he asserted that “there is nothing like Aaron team any where. Mr President has promised to meet with the leaders of the ex-militants and whatever comes out from such discussions will be for everybody. We do not believe in anything like Aaron team. “Like from what we read in today’s paper, the so-called Jomo Gbomo has replaced Ms Annkio Briggs who he said is going to mediate in the team, and replaced her with somebody else. That is not acceptable to us. So there is nothing like Aaron team”. He added that “ as long as the President will show that commitment because first and foremost, Mr President is going to take care of the welfare of the militant leaders and their followers and that will make them stay calm for developmental issues to be discussed. And that is why we are urging every body to be calm and see what the President wants to do for the people of the region.” |
