We are talking about decency, integrity, clean record and not some unlettered thugs like Ifeanyi Uba.
I share your disdain for Uba but Obiano is not a saint. Even amongst the devils,i think Ngige fits the profile you raised better. |

How does anyone expect Bianca to acknowledge intimacy with FFK? Even if he was a Duracell bunny, she will deny him. Acknowledging him is akin to sharing in his mental derangement. The man is not okay in the head and anyone who shares intimacy with him most deny it in public. |

mbulela: Ubah however reinforced his promises and boosted the confidence of the people when he boasted recently that: “I want to make it clear that I’m not seeking to become the governor of Anambra State because of selfish enrichment but to build industries, provide employment for our discouraged youths that are joining kidnapping in droves out of hopelessness. Nigerian journalism is getting very funny. The writer of this piece could not even pretend to be objective.reads like a paid advert. With all this money he is spending, i hope Cosmas Maduka has recovered his money? |
Very detailed post by OP. I see where he is coming from. It is not like he is complaining about Wema bank. This is UBA a bank that once had lustre but seems to have lost it. Banking is a very emotional product. If there is something wrong, even lay customers who know nothing about branding can feel it from the branches. There is obviously something wrong with UBA. There is a sense of lifelessness in the branches and every interaction via various touch points feel mechanical. I think it is largely a management issue. Same thing with GTBank. since Tayo's death, you can notice a change with their services. The new CEO seems not to have the same midas touch and you can feel it with their services. |
Apart from the Labour Party, all other political parties fielding candidates in the November 16 Anambra governorship election have since their primaries fallen into crisis. But will this work for the good of the LP candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, asks Davidson Iriekpen As the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State draws nearer, one candidate that is making incredible incursion and impact on the political firmament is Chief Ifeanyi Ubah of the Labour Party (LP). Since the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited indicated his interest in the governorship seat and his eventual emergence as the party’s standard-bearer, he has received unprecedented support from across the state, including students, youths, women and traders in the state. These categories of people, who arguably constitute the largest number of the voting population in the state, see the LP candidate as one choice distinct from some of the known options in the battle for the Government House, Awka. For the traders in particular, they have thrown their support for him because of the life-saving assistance and philanthropic gestures he has continued to extend to them over the years. Others also rooting for him like the teachers, artisans, farmers and transporters share near similar reasons because they see in him, a messiah who could offer the kind of leadership others may likely not offer. Ubah, of course, knows the weight of task before him to clinch the governorship seat from the choice of the incumbent governor, Mr. Peter Obi, more so that he is believed to have the tacit support of the federal government. But that notwithstanding, Ubah is undaunted. He has no doubt become an issue in Anambra politics such that anywhere he visited in the state, the place was literally shutdown. It was for that reason, perhaps, that his supporters now refer to him as “hurricane Ubah” as the clamour for change extends to even the traditional rulers. Although, many of his opponents have continued to dismiss his popularity, he however put this to test recently when his sister wedded in Lagos. To the awe of other guests, 24 out of the 30 members of the state House of Assembly attended the event. It was a record in the history of the lawmakers attending a function. In addition, there were 61 Igwes, 107 town union presidents and hundreds of traders in Anambra and environs were also in attendance. Instructively, most women who are likely to vote in the election are said to be behind his candidacy because his Kero-Direct Scheme that ensures that they buy kerosene at the subsidised price of N50 per litre. Even the majority of Okada and Keke NAPEP riders are believed to be behind him because he has continuously supplied them free fuel for their business concerns every Monday of the week in the past five years. An indigene of the state, Chiemelie Okafor, justified why the people are desperately rooting for Ubah. “This is the greatest philanthropist we have ever seen. He has surpassed others. When he becomes the governor of this state, all our problems will stop,” he reckoned. His overwhelming acceptance aside, another factor that seems to have placed him in good stead over his opponents is the seemingly intractable acrimony that have visited other political parties resulting from the primary elections to choose their candidates. From the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), are swimming in crises occasioned by the bitterness of the aggrieved candidates and their supporters, who many fear may divert loyalty to Ubah. The LP candidate, therefore, appears set as another ‘Otedola’ but in Anambra politics. Many can still relate with the crisis that rocked the primary election of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in December 1991, between Chief Dapo Sarumi and Chief Femi Agbalajobi. The camps of the two gladiators had engaged each other such that it impaired the confidence of the people in the party. At the end of the day, the sophisticated Lagos voters gave the least expected candidate of a rival party, Chief Michael Otedola of the National Republican Convention (NRC) an opportunity to lead because he was deemed responsible. The scenarios in other political parties in Anambra may have put Ubah in the shoes of a repeat history. Ubah however reinforced his promises and boosted the confidence of the people when he boasted recently that: “I want to make it clear that I’m not seeking to become the governor of Anambra State because of selfish enrichment but to build industries, provide employment for our discouraged youths that are joining kidnapping in droves out of hopelessness. I will concentrate on security to curtail the spate of kidnapping in the state. “I will network security to reduce crime in the state to zero level. I want to provide employment by building industries. I have plans of building at least 50 factories across all the local government areas. Education and healthcare are also among the things I will focus on. I’m very sure that if there is a free and fair election in Anambra State, I will win landslide with at least 70 per cent of the votes.” Since he threw his hat in the ring, Ubah has maintained that when elected, he would develop commerce and the market system in the state. While acknowledging that market development is the statutory responsibility of the local government, he argued that “in view of the primacy of markets in the livelihood of our people, we shall partner local council chiefs as well as investors to assist in the development of markets. He said his administration would recapture the market’s lost glory, adding: “We will upgrade the market into an international standard. We will ensure that coastal trading is improved in and around Onitsha, Otuocha, Ossomali, Atani and others, by constructing jetties as well as providing boats and small vessels to improve trading activities in these areas.” However, to boost his chances of winning, Ubah has chosen Dr. Emeka Eze as his running mate. Eze, scion of the royal Eze family of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area, is an accomplished medical doctor with experience spanning over two decades. He is also the managing director of Toronto Hospital Limited. Eze brings with him a wide spectrum of experience as a politician of note in Onitsha North and Dunukofia in Anambra North and Central zones respectively. The Anglican Church, in recognition of his devotion to the work of God, knighted him in 1999. A professional, articulate and dynamic politician, he belongs to the younger generation. These qualities, many believe, will complement the good standing of Ubah, a catholic and an indigene of Nnewi South senatorial zone. When recently THISDAY sought from Ubah why he is in the governorship race, his lines didn’t change. “I believe the interest of my people can be better represented than the way it is at the moment. I see politics as a commitment to serve my people. Having succeeded in business, I think the next thing to do is to empower my people by adding values to their lives. “We have been doing this through the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, but being in government will give me a better chance to effect more positive changes. My people are the most commercialised people on earth. We are the Jews of the black nation; but it is pitiable that poor level of industrialisation in the state impinges on their productivity. “When elected governor, my government will create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths so that criminals and criminality will be greatly reduced because the crime in Anambra is rooted mainly in the fact that the great number of our youths are unemployed. Our government will put an end to various social vices and menace through massive job creation.” His takes on the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, the LP candidate said: “The president is a good man who means well for the people but he cannot be everywhere, which is why the governors are there to help him. The worst is the present security challenge in the country; it baffles me. So I think the president needs real partners that can help him and that is why Ifeanyi Ubah, is contesting to the governorship post of Anambra State to build not only the state, but Nigeria together. “My vision for Anambra is to establish a secure environment where people and industry can develop and flourish. My agenda shall largely focus on human capital development, creation of jobs, tackling security challenges in state, boosting agriculture and integrating the development of the different parts of the state. I have a very strong link with the Chinese government. If you remember a time China experienced an earthquake, I was the only Nigerian that supported the Chinese government through the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation. “I gave them donation then, so I was invited by the Chinese government on a state visit to seek for what they can also do for me. I am glad that today my people have been trained in China linguistically and as industrial attachment to the country. I am happy I am helping my people in one way or the other. “Apart from that, the potentials we have to tap from China can never be overemphasised. I went to China because I know it is a world economic hub and a lot of my people are there in their millions. I know I stand to gain a lot for my people through the partnership between Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation and the Chinese government. Because of that, we are looking into China as a strong partner in progress in my quest to industrialise Anambra State.” He also espoused his plans on offshore banking, commerce, agriculture and youth empowerment. Ubah, more importantly, has come out day in, day out to reinforce his commitment to the governorship project and given the degree of spite in other political parties in the state, he might just be that unlikely nicher in the Anambra State political market that would cash-in on the unsavoury developments in other parties to coast home to victory, come November. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ubah-set-as-anambras-otedola/158731/ |
adisa204: It is so sad how Nigerians treat maids.I work at the cinemas let me give you an example, you take your kids to the cinemas alongside your maid, you buy movie tickets for your children and ask at the counter if you are to buy for the maid, because she does not understand what they are saying. So because you are told yes you rather let he/ she stay outside while your kids watch a movie of 1hour 45minutes,and you don't want this maid to poison your kids food when you get home!!!no mind them. when the girl poison their kids or rape their sons they will be claiming witchcraft. I struggle to understand some peeps. Maids will still misbehave as some of them are too clueless to appreciate goodness. But how do some madams/ogas sleep at night with the kind of wickedness you described? |
i treat them same way i expect to be treated if i was a maid. With respect and dignity. I pay for her to learn a trade. She can seat on the dinning if she so pleases but she does not do so to have her meals. She seats there when we all pray together in the morning. Our maids must be adults. I don't do that kiddies thing. We once had a girl of around 12 years as a maid (when we had no kids),the drama was too much. There are nasty maids but i refuse to go to hell because of a maid,i refuse to return their nastiness to them.If you can't cope, send them away. |
mayorall: Same thing happened to Osun state former governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and National secretary of the new PDP faction. He was in my church today, Winners chapel Osogbo, nobody noticed this man presence cos he drove himself, wife and pA to church. It was when the service was going to an end that an sss officer in my unit (security) noticed his PA at the church, immediately all securities gathered to escort him to his car when the service ended as the woman told us if anything happened to him, the church is gonna be held responsible. That woman is one of the problems we have in this country. So they gathered to protect Oyinlola from imaginary enemies? Protection that the man did not even ask for. Sycophancy at is height. I am sure the man gave them small change for job well done. Is that the work of the Security unit of a church? some of us church folks are way too earthly minded for God's good. Imagine folks playing politics in the house of God. |
John Grisham. many years back, i read 11 of his books within an 18 months period. |

Parental priesthood is a more Biblical approach, and every child is linked to his parents which in turn has a way of determining their destiny. Even if someones parents are mad, you can't but obey them. Pastors are mere guides. The promise has a root.very erroneous concept. i will revisit this shortly. |
I take advise from anyone (absolutely anyone) as long as it is in line with the revealed Word of God. That it is a pastor giving the advise does not make it more credible in my books. |

03 Sep 2013 By Ernest Chinwo The Rivers State Police Command has declared the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Seimeikumo Debewari (acting ASP), a deserter, following his failure to report to the command or police headquarters since July 10. This came as the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, dissociated himself from his posters being posted in the streets of Bori, headquarters of Khana local government area of the state. The police in a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration), Augustine Sanomi, Monday on behalf of the commissioner, said Debewari had also been withdrawn as ADC to Amaechi. The statement said: “The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that AP/No. 100659, acting ASP Seimeikumo Debewari, who has ignored all lawful directives to see the commissioner of police or the Inspector General of Police, has not been seen either in Rivers State command or at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja since July 10, 2013. “His whereabouts is currently unknown to the Nigeria Police Force. Consequently, he ceases to be the ADC to the Rivers State governor. “As the commissioner of police, Rivers State Command and by the powers conferred on me by section 398 (1) of the Police Act and Regulation Cap 359, Laws of the federation of Nigeria 1990, the officer is hereby declared a deserter from the Nigeria Police Force subject to the approval of the Inspector General of Police.” In another development, Wike has said he had no hand in his posters that have surfaced in Bori for his alleged governorship contest for Rivers State in 2015. A statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media), Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, the minister maintained that he had no hand in the posters and that it was the handiwork of political enemies to discredit him. He said: “We want to reiterate that such action is a deliberate ploy by enemies of the Honourable Minister of State to destroy his well earned reputation and to cause disaffection between him and the people of the area. “The Honourable Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, therefore dissociates himself from such ugly development, describing the circulation of posters with his photograph and name in the area as another failed attempt by the Amaechi administration to deceive Rivers people.” He noted that Wike had in June raised the alarm over an uncovered plot to print and distribute posters purporting that he had declared his ambition to contest the governorship election in the state in 2015. The minister also noted that in July, some officials of the Rivers State government actually printed posters of the minister and pasted them in a section of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, which the minister denied knowledge of, as it did not emanate from him. Nwakaudu said: “It is, therefore, not surprising that this wicked and ill-conceived act is being carried out in Ogoni where these enemies feel threatened by his (Wike’s) popularity and acceptance by the Ogoni people. “We again call on the people to disregard and discountenance such act and content of the posters as they are intended to blackmail and therefore cause friction between Wike, the good people of Ogoni and the entire Rivers State. “It is unfortunate that Amaechi and his allies are still playing an uncivilised and vengeful politics, using primitive tactics in trying to destroy someone who is building a united, peaceful and progressive Rivers State. “We also use this medium to call on all those involved in this malicious act to stop using our state’s resources in executing retrogressive political initiative that will not do our state and people any good.” |
the football world is crazy. If i was Ed woodward's employers,he would be summarily dismissed. So they ended up paying more for Fellani than his release clause stipulated? and bought him a few minutes before the window shut? This is stupidity of the highest order. I told you i was waiting for Moyes to show his hand and that the moment he appoints his backroom staff i will be sure where he is heading. With the appointment of his backroom staff and the moves this window i am convinced that Moyes is about to drag united into mediocrity. The man is severely risk averse, fearful of change and uninspiring. It will be a very long season and i doubt anything good will come out of it. You mean that Moyes had a pot full of cash and the only midfielder he was able to buy is Fellani? In the whole world? Even that one the CEO that was doing the negotiation ended up bungling it by paying above release clause mins before the window shut? even after the boy put in a transfer request? |
Eledan: I don't think that is a wise move on the part of the Prof....But what if he is desperate for power? Should he pretend about it? The man is no different from the others, don't be deceived by all the grammar he spews. We saw his handwork at CBN. |
http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/shortlist-of-loyalists-fashola-dismisses-report-as-ridiculous/157893/ Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has described as ridiculous, last week’s front page report of a national newspaper, which claimed he had drawn up a shortlist of five candidates, who could possibly succeed him. The governor who spoke in an interview with journalists who sought his reaction to the report after attending the first Lagos International Table Tennis Classics at the Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere at the weekend, said emphatically that he had neither compiled a “short” nor “long list.” “The first thing to say is that I did not compile any list whether a shortlist or a long list and I think the newspaper has acted perhaps irresponsibly and I think they had an opportunity if indeed it is true they ever got such a story to have clarified with us. But to have gone on in detail to say that I have compiled a list, I would like them to present that list to members of the public.” Noting that he was already considering seeking legal redress on the blatant falsehood published by the newspaper, Fashola said the action amounted to a deception of the reading public to have published such a fabricated story. “As I said, I deny such a list vehemently and I am already talking to my lawyers and it is very sad that they do not show respect to the Nigerian populace. People work very hard to earn money and the least that they deserve is that if they buy newspapers, what they expect to read in the newspapers should be true not stories fabricated and planted and put on the front page as if it was factual,” he explained. The governor reiterated that such an act of publishing deliberate falsehood, if not for anything, was the height of corruption and could be likened to obtaining people’s money by false pretence which is undeserving of any newspaper. |

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, recently appointed the President of the state’s Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Peter Agumagu, as the acting chief judge against the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC). The controversy the appointment generated is yet to abate, write Davidson Iriekpen and Nkiruka Okoh For Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, there is no doubting the fact that he has more than enough political crisis to contend with at the moment. But he may have expanded the frontier by including the judiciary. The governor recently swore in President of the state’s Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Peter Agumagu as the acting Chief Judge of the state instead of Justice Daisy Okocha, whom the National Judicial Council (NJC) had recommended for the position. The appointment of Agumagu came to many as a shock. This is in view of the argument that such an appointment ought to go to the most senior judge of the state High Court. Though constitutionally, the appointment of the chief judge of a state is the responsibility of the governor, this power cannot be complete without the approval of the NJC and subject to the confirmation by the state House of Assembly. Thus, expectations were high that the person fit to be in acting capacity as the CJ since the state assembly is currently inactive, was the candidate recommended by the NJC. The NJC had met and recommended Okocha alongside other judges from other jurisdictions whose matters were brought for its consideration. To that effect, a letter was written to Amaechi, communicating the decision of the NJC to enable him forward Okocha’s name to the assembly (now National Assembly) for ratification. But Amaechi looked outside the list and appointed Agumagu. The belief is that Amaechi is not comfortable with Justice Okocha and would rather Agumagu, relying on the powers conferred on him by the constitution. Yet some persons were of the view that the governor's action was an affront to Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution, which provides that: “If the office of the chief judge of a state is vacant or if the person holding the office is for any reason unable to perform the functions of the office, then until a person has been appointed to and has assumed the functions of that office or until the person holding the office has resumed those functions, the governor of the state shall appoint the most senior judge of the high court to perform those functions.” But in spite of the fact that Okocha is believed to fit into this constitutional description, Amaechi went the way of Agumagu, who according to him is the most qualified, having progressed from the High Court to become President of the Customary Court of Appeal. It is common knowledge that in Nigeria, from the Supreme Court through the Court of Appeal to Federal and state High Courts, the appointments of who heads both the courts in particular and the judiciary in general are based on hierarchy. It is for this same reason that the NJC had in the past rejected nominees from state governors who had tried to break the rules and convention and compelled them to revert to status quo. Although Amaechi has justified Agumagu’s appointment, saying he would merely hold office pending when the National Assembly approves the candidate recommended by the NJC as the substantive chief judge, it did not subdue the suspicion that greeted Okocha’s rejection. Amaechi said: “Let me congratulate you on your appointment. I sat through the week with the Attorney-General to review the appointment and we looked at the constitution and the constitution says the most senior Judge of the High Court and we looked at your appointment as a Judge of the High Court and compared it to the rest of the judges in the state and realised that you are the most senior judge of the high court of Rivers State. We therefore took that decision to proceed with the appointment. “I wish to congratulate you and say to you that you have an enormous assignment in these three months. We are proceeding with that while waiting for the resumption of the National Assembly and hoping that if they do approve the recommendation of the NJC, we will then proceed with that and we hope that within the three months you are acting, you will discharge your responsibility.” In addition to this is the impression allegedly occasioned by politics of the state that Amaechi has not had it very smooth with the judiciary in recent times, the climax being the recent court ruling that nullified the Judicial Commission of Inquiring set up by the governor to look into the crisis that rocked the state assembly on July 10. This had also included the side talks that the governor deliberately held back funds accruable to the judiciary for almost three months. But that assertion has also been dismissed by other inside sources who claimed that the governor has never held back funds meant for the judiciary aside being the highest paid judges in the country. The source however argued that the governor has only stopped giving the judges ‘vacation largesse’ which is completely out of their legitimate earning for alleged abuse. Away from this, however, it is a known fact that under the Nigerian constitution, the state High Court is higher than the Customary Court of Appeal. These are two distinct courts with different judicial personnel, administrative staff and spheres of jurisdiction. The methods of appointment of the judges of the two courts are also different. The mode of appointment for a state High Court is governed by section 271 of the 1999 Constitution while that of a state Customary Court of Appeal is governed by the provisions of section 281. Also, the jurisdiction of the High Court is provided for by section 272 of the 1999 Constitution. The jurisdiction of the Customary Court of Appeal of a state is provided for by section 282 of the 1999 Constitution. Second, where a vacancy occurs in the office of the Chief Judge of the state, section 271(4) of the 1999 Constitution provides that until a substantive appointment is made, the most senior Judge of the High Court shall be appointed to perform the functions of the Chief Judge in an acting capacity. Third, Section 281(4) of the 1999 Constitution provides that where a vacancy occurs in the office of the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, the most senior judge of the Customary Court of Appeal shall act in the office until a substantive President of the Court of Appeal is appointed. It does not say most senior judge of the High Court. It may be safe, therefore, to assume that for the position of acting Chief Judge of Rivers State, judges of the High Court and Customary Court of Appeal are not interchangeable. Expectedly too, the development has continued to elicit divergent reactions. A group, Grassroots Development Initiatives (GDI) has called on Amaechi to resign for allegedly violating the constitution. President of the group, Bright Ameawhule, at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, argued that Agumagu did not qualify for the office of acting chief judge of the state as he was not a judge of the High Court as specified by the 1999 Constitution. “Justice Agumagu is not qualified, pursuant to section 271(4) of the 1999 Constitution, to be appointed as acting Chief Judge of Rivers State as he is not the most senior Judge of the High Court of the state. Governor Amaechi does not have the constitutional power (as much as he would wish he had) to appoint the Chief Judge of the state, be it in the substantive or acting capacity, outside the provision of section 271 of the Constitution. Amaechi and Boms have just done that,” he said. But reacting, Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Tony Okocha, said the governor acted within the law. “I should not be responding to people who lack knowledge of the law. When people are not aware, they make such ignorant comments and judgments. “The governor has powers to appoint an Acting Chief Judge, even without recourse to the Assembly and such appointment is, according to law, bound to last three months. Besides, the governor is well aware of his rights and responsibilities; he’s not one of those who act with disregard for the law. Even while he was performing the swearing-in ceremony, he said that a substantive chief judge would be sworn in if the National Assembly approves the recommendation of the NJC at its resumption from recess.” On his part, Mr. Fred Agbaje, a lawyer also thought Amaechi’s action was in order. “I don't see anything bad in it. What is bad in it? You cannot become a President of a Customary Court of Appeal without first being a judge at the State High Court. It is then you are seconded to the Customary Court. Constitutionally, there is only one High Court judge. It is just for administrative convenience that we have some other judges at the State High Court. If you do otherwise, you will be denying the man his promotion.” However, since other state governors did not succeed in their attempts to alter the succession arrangements in their states’ judiciary, it is not clear if Amaechi will also get away with his. The interesting thing is that the governor is said to have implored the disenchanted to seek a redress from the court. Perhaps, a competent court of jurisdiction would end this needless but reoccurrence in that all-important arm of government. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/amaechi-stirs-a-hornet-s-nest/157676/ |
