This woman is one of the few who's life and career is a stumbling block to the stereotype that the likes of Yerima wish to perpetuate. Intelligent, progressive and opinionated. I have all the time in the world for her kind of Islam. |
stebell: M̶̲̥̅γ̲̣̣̥ bro, sincerely speaking, he shud recognise Evans Bipi and dats M̶̲̥̅γ̲̣̣̥ stance. Actually, it's de 5 lawmakers d̶̲̥̅̊α̇̇̇̊τ̲̣̣̥ hv been de arrow head but de truth is dat 15 lawmakers voted for a change of leadership @ de house. I stay in ph and hear dis de former speaker hv not come out t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ say de contrary. All peeps keep saying is d̶̲̥̅̊α̇̇̇̊τ̲̣̣̥ 5 can't impeach speaker were there are 32 members. Wen de Gov went t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ de House of Assembly, all de other lawmakers said they were loyal but in actual fact they are jus doing dat cos he was there. If they are saying no impeachment took place __̅_̅̅_̅̅̅Ω̴̩̩̩̥kA̶̲̥̅̊Ɣ let them go t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ court. Mind yu de Evans Bipi group said they hv a document of 22 lawmakers present dat faithful day and also another document bearing signatures of those 15 who voted for τ̲̅ђe impeachment. Well i'll be following dis case seriously. Ǥ☺☺Đ nite all. As for de swamp issue well i wud like t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ see a pix of where Wole Soyinka was born and grew up before i'll ♍åƙε̲̣̣̣̥ a comment. NiteLet them go to court? I love how Nigerian politicians use the court to perpetuate evil once they know that Federal might is on their side. One day,a mad man will take over power and ask anyone who feels aggrieved to go to court. |
dejgan: Shame on the sponsors of this program that has been going on for the past few days on AIT. Shame on GEJ if he truly does know anything about this propaganda on AIT!! Shame on Dokpesi and AIT for allowing this folly to be aired on their network!!!Dokpesi and AIT are major contractors to the govt. He does not have the conscience to do otherwise. Besides, as long as it is paid for, the other faction have a right to air their views and AIT has a right to accept their money for services rendered. |
stebell: Ways t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ resolve de crisis in PH city. (1). Recall de Obio/Akpor Chairman and his councillors cos some sections of de rules and order of de house of Assembly were not followed. (2). Acknowledge and recognise de PDP in de state led by Felix Obuah, cos yu too came in as Gov thro de court. Yu were not elected. τ̲̅ђe supreme court brought yu in as Gov in 2007. (3) recognise Evans Bipi as de new speaker of de house of Assembly. After doing de above, then call Pro n Anti Amaechi lawmakers and ♍åƙε̲̣̣̣̥ them settle immediately. I believe wen yu do d̶̲̥̅̊α̇̇̇̊τ̲̣̣̥ , then de kind of peace yu hv in ÿøu̶̲̥̅̊я 1st term will be available t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ yu again. Long live Rivers State. Long live #Team Fresh Air#. Long live Naija.I see that you desire the peace of a grave yard. Your number 3 point is akin to legitimizing irascibility and thuggery. If you asked for Loyd to be sanctioned and the 5 render an unreserved apology to the majority (27 or so) and also to the people of the state,i would have seen your point. Assuming he does all this, what concessions are Wike and his band of clowns willing to make? |
chidindufrank: Why did you marry her in the first place since you know she doesn't know how to cook and fuc.kkk? Mr man stop beating another man's daughter. If you're not ready for marriage join me in pick and drop sector. #my 8 cents.....He only said she can't cook. He did not accuse her of the other. |
Ndipe: And she did submit her work to be considered for the Caine Prize a while back, do you remember that? No,he has forgotten. |
philips70: It's a shame honestly. Olisa agbakoba must have left the office and taken with him all the dignity expected of an NBA president- the conscience of all lawyers in NigeriaFalana Faults NBA's Call for NGF’s Proscription 08 Jul 2013 By Shola Oyeyipo Constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana, has condemned a call for the proscription of the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Okey Wali (SAN). Falana described the proscription call as "liquidationist call" that should not go unchallenged. The National Executive Committee of the NBA had held its bi-monthly meeting between July 5 and 7 in Yenogoa, the Bayelsa State capital where at the end of the meeting Wali was reported to have called for the proscription of the NGF in view of the controversy which had trailed the outcome of the re-election of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as NGF chairman. Falana noted that: "Wali must have forgotten that his own election was seriously contested by his major opponent, Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN). In spite of the fact that the allegations of malpractice, including the fact that some lawyers who died several years ago voted from the grave! were proved beyond reasonable doubt no one ever suggested that the NBA be proscribed." While noting that he rejected the insinuation in certain legal circles that the call for the proscription of the NGF was influenced by the fund collected from the government to host the last NBA NEC meeting, he added that:" I deem it pertinent to challenge his reactionary call before it is adopted by the forces of annulment in the country. More so that the call is a sad reminder of the fate that befell some progressive professional bodies and trade unions which were either corruptly taken over or decimated by the Ibrahim Babangida junta. "It is particularly sad to note that the NBA which used to be the defender of the fundamental rights of the Nigerian people has thrown up leaders who are campaigning for the proscription of friendly societies and clubs. Even if Wali does not like the NGF he is duty bound, as a lawyer, to respect the right of the members to associate without external interference," he said. “Regrettably, the NBA appears to be encouraging impunity on the part of certain public officers. Otherwise its leadership should have called the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, to order for banning demonstrations and rallies convened in Rivers State without police permit. “In the light of the foregoing it is hoped that concerned lawyers will urgently adopt decisive measures to free the NBA from the grip of anti-democratic forces and reposition it to resume its traditional role of defending the rule of law and the expansion of the democratic space in the country. “Otherwise the NBA will soon lose its relevance in the struggle of the Nigerian people for the transformation of the country from civil rule to democracy under the rule of law. I am however convinced that that will not happen as majority of lawyers do not share the perspective of bar leaders who have contempt for the democratic rights of Nigerians.” |

philips70: Those visited the injured lawmaker include; Minister of State for Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, President of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Chief Okey Wali (SAN), Former Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, National Treasurer, Mr Kenneth Kobani, Former Transport Minister, Dr Abiye Sekibo, Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah and a former Commissioner in Rivers State, Mr. Bonny Iyaye.Dude, let me look for an article Femi Falana wrote in THISDAY weeks ago addressing this issue. I am surprised that the issue has not been discussed in detail. The present NBA president is as political and biased as it gets. I wonder what the NBA is doing about it? |
Barcelona coach Vilanova to step down - reports Reuters, Friday July 19 2013 * Unable to continue due to ill health, reports say * Has been battling throat cancer past two years (Adds details, changes dateline) BARCELONA, July 19 (Reuters) - Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova is to step down due to ill health, Spanish media reported on Friday, without identifying the source of their information. Vilanova, 44, has been battling throat cancer for the past couple of years and spent two months having treatment in New York last season. Barca vice president Javier Faus said he was unable to confirm the reports when contacted by telephone. A Barca spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment. Club president Sandro Rosell and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta are due to hold a news conference at 1830 GMT on Friday. Sport reported that Joan Francesc Ferrer, known as "Rubi", may be in line to take over. Ferrer led Girona to the second division playoffs last season and was appointed Vilanova's assistant for the coming campaign to help with technical analysis of Barca's rivals. Vilanova succeeded his close friend Pep Guardiola at the end of the 2011-12 season after Guardiola - now coach of Bayern Munich - decided to take a year out from football. The pair, who were at Barca's academy together and coached the B side before stepping up to the first team in 2008, led the club on a spectacular four-year run including two Champions League crowns and three La Liga titles. Last season, Vilanova helped Barca to a fourth La Liga success in five years as they equalled Real Madrid's record points haul from the previous term. |
Maxymilliano: Gumsu Sanni Abacha claims "Wole Soyinka is a "Mad Empty Professor that lives on bad mouthing his Motherland and continent for Dollar and euro!"She probably contracted madness from Femi Fani Kayode. |
stillwater: Now it is very true to say Writers bruise easily. I never believed that but I'm beginning to. Elnathan has currently picked on the 'one of my boys' phrase as an insult of which I don't think there's any reason to after reading the context it was being used. Bad blood obviously runs among all of them for the Ibrahim guy to venture into some 'queen mother' diatribe. Seems Chimamanda has rubbed them off the wrong way prior to this incident. This woman is articulate enough to defend herself fearlessly. Let the battle begin!writers have the most fragile egos. |
Talking: Check dis...http:///7GZnS68sbzthere is no need to check anything. He makes valid points. While i might not agree that she feels threatened by the young turks, i share the rest of his sentiments. |
Mcleo007: On Thiago. I don't see him progressing in Bayern. Two things are involved: 1. He gets playtime and disrupts team balance/spirit 2. He seats out the bench and fast depreciate in his learning process. Wither way, he is the loser. If 1 takes place, his master, Pep might lose the team and eventually lose his position (he's too smart to let that happen while he's at it). If 2 is the case, then what he thought was his problem for leaving Barca in the first place is but a child's play. Wither way, he remains the loser. You sound like a jilted lover. Just let the lad go and enjoy his new romance and focus on the lovers you have left. |
dayokanu: ^^why will Pep rotate a winning team? Also, how will the team win big if he keeps rotating to keep everybody happy? This thing is not as easy as you are making it sound. |
django1: Oh o. How did the book do? She's a good writer, how come her book isn't popular? If you liked Lola Shoneyin's The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives, then you'll love that Abimbola's book. there is a similarity. |
django1: Oh o. How did the book do? She's a good writer, how come her book isn't popular?Because commercial success is one of the many ways of measuring how good a book is. It is like football,i have seen boys with more talent and even application in my part of town than Mikel Obi and Jay Jay okocha but some how luck and chance never showed up for them. For all the buzz and adulation of Chimamanda Adichie,i have actually enjoyed better tales from lesser recognized writers. Books are a bit like women, our tastes differ and often our desires are shaped by the peculiarities of our needs at the moment. It is a very good book but maybe she did not create the right buzz, did not get the right publisher, etc. it was released in 2011/12.I guess her next work will be better circulated. |
eaglechild: I guess she is referring to Ibadan.Yep |
django1: Hmmm...I think I'll go to book store and buy some african literature. She will be disappointed to hear that you do not know that she already has one and a good one at that. Under The Brown Rusted Roofs |
Truth be told, there are a lot of good Nigerian fiction available at the moment.I will recommend a few more,if i can find the time away from South African fiction that seems to dominate my almost non existent reading list at the moment. |
aghaibiam: yes,go and read Agary's Yellow yellow and know that we do have great writers.very surprising recommendation,in my view. |
Abbott: I admit that Everything Good may not be Sefi Atta's highpoint, but their is something about it, the ordinariness, the monotony and the dramatic that is the life of nondescript and obscure people. The beauty lies not in its banality but that this people lead lives that yearns to be witnessed and noticed too. Still a fav to me anyway. Would love to get the rest and read 'em.I see your point. It was for its ordinariness and monotony that i struggled to finish it. However, another ordinary book that i ended up loving was FINE BOYS by Eghosa Imasuen. Very ordinary book that sounded almost autobiographical but i just loved it. His mastery of writing in pidgin was superb and despite the stroy being ordinary, i still could not stop. Check it out.very good read. Infact my wife thinks it should be made compulsory reading for every SS3 boy,for very obvious reasons. |
Abbott: I love Sefi Atta's Everything Good Will Come.check SWALLOW and A BIT OF DIFFERENCE. I found the one you mentioned very bland and ordinary. I liked SWALLOW better but in general she is not a writer i really enjoy. I enjoyed IMAGINE THIS by Sade Adeniran much more. |
AjanleKoko: One can hardly recognize this thread anymoreyou just dey sell market for Dayo. |
dayokanu: Gustavo was on the bench throughout last season for most of it. And those in the starting lineup are not given automatic shirts.guy you sef know say this thing no be Fantasy football. Let us revisit this matter next summer. |
dayokanu: You think thats hard? And you think Muller will be jumping for joy? Gustavo will be excited ni? I just can't help seeing an itchy bum or two in that Bayern midfield by January. |
Johnpaul88: Bayern is an emerging force. They are not yet where Barcelona have been since last 5 years. But they are in the right track to getting there. So they cannot yet be an upgrade of Barcelonae be like say you wan Dayo to give you E-slap? |
AjanleKoko: Dem for even try collect one ageing defender off Bayern's hands.still waiting to see how Bayern will fit all these midfielders in. even if pep plays 4-6-0, FC Hollywood is around the corner again. |
The guy is good! Don't be misled by character display of some people on here because in reality, they are just acting a script in order to make nairaland a fun place to be!
Like the clown called Dayokanu. |
ogugua88: You reap what you sow.you can also wear what a tailor sows. |
kokoA: Personally I feel Chimamanda is over-hyped. She is a very good writer no doubt, but her books to me aren't anything out of the ordinary. The other dude went to far with his anger though..Take a bow! |
