The Bayelsa State Government has challenged Ijaw leaders to emulate the ideals of the late Ijaw Freedom icon, Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boroh.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson described the late Boro as a hero who lived a selfless life and died in the pursuit of emancipation of the oppressed Niger Delta region in a statement to commemorate the 50th anniversary celebration of the late icon.

Iworiso-Markson said that Boroh was ahead of his generation and was motivated into taking the risky path of the pursuit of freedom for the Ijaw Nation and indeed the Niger Delta because of his interest in the general good.

The Commissioner said that the 50th anniversary celebration of Boroh should be a period for stocktaking on the Niger Delta agitation for resource control, equitable and fair process of resource allocation, the demand for fairness and accountability in the Nigerian Federation.

The Government Spokesman noted that Boro was being celebrated 50years after because he did not trade the general interest of the Ijaw people for the promotion of his personal interest.

He stressed that Ijaw Nation and indeed the Niger Delta would not remain the same if the younger generation of leaders could put into practice the ideals for which Boro lived and died.

Iworiso-Markson Markson stated further if Boroh had been alive, he would have been in the forefront of the support for the implementation of painstaking reforms designed to reposition the civil service in Bayelsa for efficiency and productivity.
The Government’s Spokesman said further that Boro’s ideals being celebrated

50 years after his death would not support ingrained corruption, payroll fraud, age falsification, certificate forgery, multiple employments, and other immoral and criminal acts in Bayelsa.

He said further that a true hero and lover of the Ijaw nation would not support the antics of the vicious network of greedy people whose activities had hampered the development of the Bayelsa, the homeland of the Ijaw people.

He said, “Without doubt, the late Isaac Adaka Boroh was a true hero of the Ijaw Nation. He was a leader who lived and died for the ideals which he believed would lead to better standard of living for his deprived.
“Boroh was the example of a leader who put the general interest above his personal needs. That explains why he left the prestigious University òf Nigeria Nsuka to participate in a dangerous process of struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta.

“Today should be a day for introspection. The leaders of the Ijaw Nation and the younger generation of leaders have a duty to emulate the uncommon qualities of this great hero of our land.

“In Bayelsa State, the government is battling with the implementation of reforms. The question to ask is: Would Boro have supported this move to rid Bayelsa of fraud and the endemic diversion of funds meant for development?”

He said that the quest to ensure a holistic implementation of the reforms in the public sector by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson would continue in honour òf the ideals of Boro.

Gombe state police on Tuesday charged 50-year-old Samaila Zakari before a magistrate’s court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.

The police said the accused, Zakari of Deba town in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, committed the act on May 2 and May 8.

At about 10pm, the accused took his biological daughter to his matrimonial room and had carnal knowledge of her forcefully.

The young girl is presently with a two-month old pregnancy for her father.

The prosecution said the accused committed incest and rape by his action which was contrary to Sections 390 and 282 of the Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges before the Magistrate, Mr. Dorabo Sikam.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Baba Shekari, asked for the adjournment of the case to enable the police to complete their investigation.
The magistrate adjourned the case until May 21 and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.

The chiefs, women and youths of Amassoma community in Bayelsa have taken to the streets to riot over the unusual increase in Niger Delta University school fees and uncessary sacking of staffs in the university .

They went as far as blocking the Amassoma-yenagoa road and also carried placards with writings wishing death on the state governor.

The Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shetima has described the Countryman Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson as a change agent of the century! He said Dickson has not only revolutionised agriculture in Bayelsa State but has changed the negative narrative of the state by enthroning sustainable development and peace in the only homogenous Ijaw State.

A press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Francis Ottah Agbo noted that the Borno State Governor commended Dickson on Thursday while delivering a goodwill message at the maiden edition of the Nation Newspaper First Summit On Food and Agriculture which held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja. Both Dickson and Shettima were also conferred with award of excellence in agriculture. Dickson was particularly honoured for the development of rural agro-business and for using agriculture generally to diversify the Bayelsa economy beyond oil, through wealth creation, training, retraining and skills acquisition in agriculture.

Chief amongst the legacy agriculture projects/programmes that earned Governor Dickson the award are: the 8 aquaculture villages in the state with a 500- Fish Pond at Yenegwe, Yenagoa as the flagship, the Commercial Cassava Plant Factory and Cassava Out Grower Scheme at Ebidebri, Oil Palm Plantation Development Projects, Integrated Poultry Farm Projects, Rice Development Initiatives, Ultra-Modern Fish Farm Projects etc.

Shettima said Nigeria can thrive on agriculture because according to him, all regions have comparative advantages, noting that the North is blessed with cereal, the middle belt can provide tuber needs while the south can provide the fish demand. He said if “we are serious as a nation, our national food security is guaranteed.

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi also hailed Dickson for his initiatives in agriculture which he said are people-oriented. He averred that Bayelsa State has the capacity to be the rice hub of the nation, because the “land is fertile and water is available for irrigation…” and commended the Governor for working in this direction.

The Nation award was received on behalf of Dickson by his Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Doodei Week. Governor Dickson dedicated the award to the good people of Bayelsa State and the Ijaw Nation. MRS RACHEL DICKSON SET TO PAY PREGNANT WOMEN MONTHLY TO REDUCE MATERNAL MORTALITY IN THE STATE.

The wife of Bayelsa State Governor, Dr. Racheal Dickson, says as part of the measures to reduce the rate of maternal/infant mortality in the state, the government will henceforth pay pregnant women on a monthly basis.

She said the stipend would enable the pregnant women to buy whatever they need during the pregnancy period, stressing that the government would also care for them medically to reduce cases of maternal and infant mortality.

Mrs. Dickson said the recent pronouncement by the state government of providing support for pregnant women in the state was part of efforts geared towards reducing maternal and infant mortality in the state.

She spoke in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, during the commencement of a three-day programme for ‘Royal Queens’ in the Niger Delta organised by the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Wives’ Association, a Government House statement said on Friday.

She said the government was concerned about the wellbeing of pregnant women and had put in place measures to ensure they get monthly stipend and other benefits until they safely give birth to their baby.

She expressed worry over the number of avoidable deaths, saying most of them would not have occurred if adequate care was given to the women.

According to her, every pregnant woman in the state is very important to the government as the nine months’ period of their pregnancy is very sensitive and requires the needed attention.
Mrs. Dickson said, “We will be paying our women who are pregnant monthly to ensure they are able to buy whatever they need. We will also care for them medically to ensure that cases of maternal and infant mortality are reduced.

“Most of the deaths you hear of involving pregnant women could have been avoided if they were well cared for. We are concerned about such avoidable deaths and by God’s grace, we will reduce and even stop it.”

While calling on pregnant women to take advantage of the offer by visiting government-owned hospitals, she also advised them against foods that are not good for them during their pregnancy.
Mrs Dickson equally urged the visiting Queens to use their positions to support women, especially girl-child education, saying the government in Bayelsa is strongly championing.

Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus, 21, is quite apprehensive about the World Cup next month, however, legendary striker Romario, 52, tells him the key to world cup success is simple: concentration, goals and plenty of sex.

He says that’s how he helped Brazil take hold of the 1994 World Cup. During the 1994 tournament in the United States, Romario scored five goals and won player of the tournament, before becoming FIFA’s World Player of the Year the same year.

“Have enough sex is one piece of advice, as is making the most you can of your days off and, of course, concentrate on match days and during the games,” he said.

Romario’s sees potential in Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus.

The joint Senate and House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriations on the 2018 budget, Appropriation Bill report was not laid at the Senate before the plenary was adjourned by the chamber to Tuesday next week.

The Senate cancelled today’s plenary to enable the All Progressives Congress caucus members to prepare for the local government area party congresses holding on Saturday.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Monday said the report would be laid this week, while the passage of the budget would be done next week.

“Hopefully, it should be laid this week. If it can be laid this week and passed early next week. We are hoping it will be laid this week,” Saraki said.



Briefing journalists after the plenary on Wednesday, Sabi-Abdullahi, however, said,

“It was supposed to be laid this week but they are putting finishing touches. They are being careful not to make mistakes. The report will be laid on Tuesday and by Wednesday, we will approve it.

The good thing is that it is the harmonized version that will be laid. So, whatever is laid in the Senate will be laid in the House of Representatives, and it will be considered and passed the same time.”

The National Assembly’s failure to pass the 2018 Appropriation on Thursday as earlier planned was defended by the House of Representatives.

The House gave reasons that the N8.612tn budget had yet to be fine-tuned by the Joint Committee on Appropriations.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas said the budget was scheduled for passage last week but had to be shifted to this week.

The budget was expected to be presented by the House of Representatives and the Joint committees on Appropriations of the Senate on April 19 but the report has not been laid since then.

Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha, believes that attending a girls’ only secondary school affected her relationship with men.
Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the actress admitted that so many people think she has a problem with her attitude and she is snobbish.
She said,

“I am aware that people think I am a snob, but I am actually a shy person. My job demands that I should abandon who I am. It used to be even worse for me because I went to a single-sex school; so, relating to guys was difficult for me. However, I am adjusting now because it acting.”

“When you meet me newly, the first impression you get is that I am cold. But I am only trying to protect myself from people I don’t know.

“If I am in a room and I know everyone there, I will be very comfortable and playful. But if I don’t know anyone, I will be cold. I am not trying to blow my trumpet; I am just saying that I need to know you to be comfortable with.

She started acting at the age of 17, she claimed that she did not indulge in drinking or smoking.

“The way my mother raised us, especially as her first daughter, there was no way I would have lived a wayward life. My late mother would have been a solider if she didn’t have a job. In Igboland, they pay so much attention to the first daughter because she must be an example to the younger ones. Also, I am allergic to smoke and many other things. I act stupidly whenever I am high, which is not good for someone like me in public because I like to conduct myself well. I had friends who questioned why I did not smoke or drink but if you know who you are, you wouldn’t succumb to peer pressure. However, I am not saying the fact that I don’t smoke or drink makes me an extraordinary being.”

Four of the armed robbers who were involved in the offa bank robbery incidents last month have been declared wanted by the Nigerian police.
The Kwara State Government has promised N5 million to anyone who can provide meaningful information about the suspects connected to Offa bank robbery. Their photographs have been released.

Some days after the bank robbery, a video showing young men suspected to be yahoo plus boys jubilating surfaced online. Amazingly, there is a striking resemblance of these young men with the wanted criminals.

On Thursday, a lawyer, Udeme Odibi stabbed her husband, Otike Odibi, to death in their residence at Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos State.

The suspect cut off the private parts of her husband and stabbed herself.

Journalists gathered that Udeme threatened to stab her husband on Wednesday over a disagreement that ensued between them.

The 50-year-old man who was also a lawyer was said to have informed his relatives about the threat on the telephone before he went to bed.

In the early hours of Thursday, the woman made good her threat by ripping out her husband's private part with a knife.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the couple had endured three years of marriage filled with domestic violence.

The couple did not have any child together, although the husband had a daughter in his previous marriage.

Edgal Imohimi,the state Commissioner of Police, directed detectives from the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, as well as forensic experts to the scene of the crime for accurate investigation.

A distress call was made to the Divisional Police Officer, Ogombo division, around 7.30am as regards the murder case.

He said,

“Based on the information, the DPO mobilised a team of detectives to the scene where they found the man lying on the bed in a pool of blood with his stomach ripped open, exposing his intestines. As if that was not enough, the killer severed his genitals and placed them on his right hand.

“However, before the arrival of the police, Mrs. Udeme, who had unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide after allegedly killing her husband, was rushed to a hospital for treatment by neighbours''


He added;

“An eyewitness account revealed that the couple, both of whom are lawyers, married three years ago after the deceased divorced his first wife. The deceased’s first marriage produced a daughter currently schooling in the United Kingdom. However, his second marriage is said to be without a child,”

A man named Hussaina surajo has been accused of rape. He forcefully raped a 7 year old girl in Katsina state after luring her to a farm.
Abdu informed the police that the accused, Hussaini Surajo , allegedly lured the girl to a farm where he had sex with her.

The girl reportedly sustained injuries in her private part while traces of Hussiano Surajo’ s sperms were also found in her vagina .
The police arrested Surajo and charged him to court for rape contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.
At the Katsina Senior Magistrate ’ s court on Monday, the police first information report was revealed.

“ You, Hussaini Surajo , 19 years , alias Mallam , deceived and took the victim inside a farm of one of your friends of the same address and forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with her .
“ As a result , you released your sperm in her private part and also wounded her vagina , contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code. ”

Surajo has been remanded in prison custody till May 10, 2018 when his case would come up for mention before Senior Magistrate Hajiya Falile Dikko .

Also, we’ve had very serious problems with Christians who have been murdered, killed in Nigeria. We’re going to be working on that problem, and working on that problem very, very hard, because we can’t allow that to happen.

PRESIDENT BUHARI: Thank you, Mr. President, very much for inviting me. It’s a great honor. I’m very grateful for it.
Sadly, security is the main issue. We very grateful to the United States for agreeing to give us the aircraft we asked for — the spare parts. We are even more grateful for the physical presence of the United States military (inaudible) that are going to our institutions in Nigeria, and train them and go to the front, in the northeast, to see how they are performing, as an example of the training given to them.

So the commitment of the United States to get rid of terrorism across the world, we have firsthand experience of that, and we are very grateful for it.

The problem about the (inaudible) and jihadists in Nigeria is a very long, historical thing. But the state is most concerned — they know that the Nigerian jihadists never carry anything more than a stick, and occasionally a machete, to cut down foliage and give it to the (inaudible) and carrying AK-47s.

So I don’t think people should underrate what happened in Libya: Forty-three years of Qaddafi. People were recruited from the Sahel; they were caught — and nothing other than shoot and killed.

With the demise of Qaddafi, they moved to their countries, into their regions, and they carried away with them the only experience they have — trained using weapons. And that’s what is aggravating the situation.
We are doing our best to make sure we have stopped the cross-border and so on, and — to get the weapons from the (inaudible) and weapons in the region checked. But it’s going to take time, and the action by the United States in trying to see the end of ISIS has helped us a lot. Because Boko Haram in Nigeria at one time made a statement that they are loyal to ISIS.

Now that ISIS have virtually gone with the help of the United States, we are very grateful for that. And we are sure that we are still (inaudible) the situation and the security in Nigeria.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We have very much decimated ISIS. Much has taken place over the last 12 months. But Boko Haram has been terrible. And how did you do with the young women that were kidnapped? How is that going?

PRESIDENT BUHARI: The Chibok girls and the Dapchi one — the Chibok one was before we came — 2014. But only a number of them — we recovered about 80 of them. But the Dapchi one, there were 106 that were kidnapped. We got 100 back. Four died; one is still held in captivity. And we are very grateful to the United Nations organization that is acting as (inaudible) between us and the kidnappers. And we haven’t given up. We are trying to get everybody back to join their families and their schools.

A young man named Afolabi Kazeem has taken to his IG page to expose the
”fia” crooner, Davido. In his statement, he accuses the singer, his brother and friends for absconding with his 60 million naira in UK when they went for a jewellery business in 2011.

He alleges that all effort made towards getting his money from them as proved fruitless, and Davido has threatened to kill him and his family members if he continues his accusations, as a result of the threat upon his life, he decided to expose him on Instagram and also plead with Nigerians to tell him to pay back his money.

Imo State policemen have arrested two suspects for kidnapping a 17-month-old baby and committing robbery.

Ify Ezeudeogu, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer , presented the suspects to newsmen on Thursday in Owerri.

Ezeudeogu said that the suspects had invaded the house of one Vivian Iberi on April 21st and carted away her bank cards and the baby.


Vivian Iberi said the suspects demanded a ransom before they would release the baby and had succeeded in collecting N627,000 from her.

According to her, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday and the baby rescued the Special Anti Robbery Squad operatives.

The DPPRO further said that the mother has taken the baby, and they were still on the trail of the remaining gang members.

She said the Mr. Chris Ezike, Commissioner of Police had directed the Investigation Unit of the Police Command to apprehend the suspects who are still on the run.

“I was getting ready to turn 40, she’s in her late 30s,” Johnson says of his life before he met Williams. “Neither of us have been married, had children, and I think you just get to a place sometimes where you’re just so career-driven, so focused on what you’re doing at the moment, that it’s kind of a comfort zone. … Both of us were in very similar places on a personal level.”
He’s Based in Phoenix (for Now!)
Johnson was born in Colorado and grew up spending time there and in New Mexico. He moved to Phoenix for college, and Arizona has served as home base for years now, though he travels often working as a sports chaplain.
When he and the Believe By Michelle Williams designer first met, he was splitting time between Phoenix and Pittsburgh. But when they get married, Johnson will move to Los Angeles to live with Williams.

Williams and Johnson’s relationship grew for nearly three months before they officially began dating in July of 2017. And until that point, Williams had kept it private.

Mr and Mrs Joseph Mbonu, parents of a 9-month-old baby, Jidenna Mbonu, who died last Friday at FMC , Yenagoa, Bayelsa State have accused an unnamed female doctor of killing the baby.

They alleged that they lost their baby at the tertiary health institution after the doctor repeatedly injected him with an overdose of drug.

The baby’s mother alleged that when the doctor in question came in, she mixed the drug and shook it for close to 30 mins.

She claimed

‘’so, another doctor there asked her why she was shaking the drug for so long, but the female doctor said she had to shake it very well. I reminded her that they used to cut the drug into two and use 2ml syringe. I sought to know why she was using 5ml syringe for my son. But she asked me, ‘’do you want to teach me my job’’?

‘’I brought out my baby’s leg; she then used a 5ml syringe and injected my baby’s leg with speed. She injected him three times. Thereafter, my baby started vomiting on my body and started shrinking. My baby died in my hands.’’

The baby’s father appealed to the police and other relevant authorities to come to their aid.
