BY DIAMONDZ BLOG A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has sentenced a former Taraba State governor, Jolly Nyame, to 14 years in prison without an option of fine. . . The Taraba state governor Mr Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba State. . . He was charged by EFCC for allegedly diverting N1.64 billion while he served as governor between 1999 to 2007. . . The judge sentenced the defendant to four different terms in prison, after finding him guilty of receiving gratification, obtaining public funds without due consideration, criminal breach of trust and gratification. . . The various sentences include a time of prison for two, five, seven and 14 years respectively. . . The judge Adebukola Banjoko however noted that the terms are expected to run concurrently, meaning he would serve 14 years in jail unless the conviction is upturned by a higher court. . . In the lengthy judgement that lasted over four hours, the judge narrated how several witnesses brought to court by both parties corroborated the allegation of fraud against the defendant. . . The EFCC presented various witnesses who alluded to the fact that Mr Nyame approved the diversion of various funds amounting to over N345 million to a company, Saman global, within five weeks in 2005, among other allegations. . . The court held that Nyame is guilty of over half of the charges. According to the judge, Adebukola Bankole, the actions of the perpetrators under the watch of the ex-governor can be likened to the story of Alibaba and the 40 thieves. BY DIAMONDZ BLOG Germany players have been banned from sex during the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Joachim Low, Germany coach has banned his players from having sex, or using social media networks during this year's World Cup. Joachim Low does not want the players’ partners ruining his preparations in Russia. Players will be forced to ask for special permission to see their other halves and even their children. Social media will also be prohibited for the likes of Leroy Sane, Mesut Ozil, Marco Reus and Thomas Muller, who social media platforms are very active. However, Low will allow the players to drink, to help boost team spirits, with the boss insisting: “The team is more important than the ego.” Germany have started training in South Tyrol in preparation for the world cup, in north-east Italy this week. In other reports, Super Eagles Head coach, Gernot Rohr, has cut down his provisional squad for this summer’s World Cup from 30 to 25 players. Those removed from the previous 30-man squad are: Dele Ajiboye,Moses Simon Uche Agbo, Stephen Eze and Junior Lokosa. These particular players will not travel with the rest of the Super Eagles team to London, where Nigeria will take on the Three Lions of England on Saturday. The actor-cum-politician and lawyer, who is currently working on a sequel of the 1992 blockbuster, Living in Bondage, speaks with ADENIYI ADEWOYIN on his political ambition and other issues. What projects are you working on now? I am trying to be the governor of Enugu State. That is the project I am working on now. I am trying to contest for the governorship of Enugu State under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC). Then of course, I am a movie guy, so there must always be a movie on ground and we are also trying to remake Living In Bondage so that I will finally break free. What inspired your political ambition? That is because we are in democracy and democracy should be for everybody. Everybody might not be in power at the same time but everybody should be in politics because you should decide what should influence your life. The leadership of any nation influences the life of everybody and so everybody should be in politics. However, I have been politically active throughout my life. From my university days, I was the Secretary General for the Society for the Advancement of Business Management. When I was at the University of Lagos doing my masters, I was the president of the Society of International Law and Diplomacy. So I have always been in politics and like I said earlier, I do the things that I am passionate about and that’s why I come out with determination. What came to your mind when you were contacted for the remake of Living in Bondage? What came to my mind was that they want to repackage what started Nollywood and fit it in to the modern environment of movie world and I thought it was fantastic because a lot of people were not born 26 years ago. Do you think movie lovers will get what they got from this movie 26 years ago? Well, if you get what you got 26years ago, then we have done nothing. We are saying that you will get at least five times better than what you got then and I have told you that I have gotten at least five times better than I was then. So, you are going to get a better story. A lot of things we did then we were in shadows but now a lot of them are going to be in substance. You will get something fantastic, something explosive, something beautiful, something that is going to be the 21st century Nollywood because we did the first one in the 20th century What are the things you consider before accepting a movie role? I consider first and foremost the story. There has to be a strong message. I rate my story into three; one, it is beyond redemption (the plot is bad, the dialogue is bad.) I won’t even look at it. Two, the plot is fantastic, the dialogue is not good, I can look at that; if they are going to give me the freedom to remold it, it is redeemable. When we started Living in Bondage, it was in a plot form, so we have become used to being able to remold a good plot, even if it doesn’t have good dialogue but I’m going to take that one conditionally. This was contained in a letter dated May 16 and which was addressed to the state governor, Mohammed A. Abubakar. In the resignation letter, which was made available by text on Wednesday, Nuhu Gadado the deputy governor said he had earlier reiterated his commitment to serve for a single term, and was the reason he resigned. BY DIAMONDZ BLOG Report Coming in from the University town of Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa state says two persons have been allegedly shot by security operatives following protest by women and some youths against the forceful reopening of the NDU school gate today. It was gathered that the NDU school gate was reopened last night with the aide of security operatives after some protesting women shut it down and welded it last week. The women were protesting their shock sacking by the school authorities. We gathered that the women and some youths stormed the University gate this morning after discovering that the gate has been opened but they were chased out forcefully by security operatives. It was further gathered that the resistance of some youths to reopen the NDU school gate led to the shooting by security operatives. A source told our correspondent that the two persons allegedly shot have been rushed to the hospital in Amassoma. He also spoke about his love for his mother and dream woman. Here are excerpts from the chat; What motivated your skit, Accolade ? Nothing actually; it was just something I came up with randomly. When I look at some people who have worked really hard and nobody ever acknowledged them, it makes me feel bad. So, I just did the video to let everyone know that hard-working people should be appreciated and acknowledged. I was surprised that it went viral but I am happy that I came up with something that a lot of people are inspired by and can also relate to. On his type of woman i like a humble woman who fears God. I love women who are real and don’t wear a lot of make-up. I love it when a woman appreciates her beauty. Before I can take any woman seriously, I have to see traits of godliness in her. Will you marry your son’s mother ? When the time comes, everyone will know. But for now, let’s just not talk about that. What are your aspirations? I want to get closer to God and someday, I may end up becoming a pastor. It would be a delight winning souls for the kingdom of God and worshipping His holy name. On his mother I love my mother so much and I can do anything for her. I was just appreciating her because she did her best for me. She has paid her dues and there is no accolade that will be enough for her. I was also trying to make other people appreciate their mothers because there are people who will give anything for their mothers to be alive. If your mother is still alive, always appreciate her and make her happy. My mum trained me and stood by me to this point. Whatever I do is to make her happy and put a smile on her face. My mother is my priority before any woman comes in and I will keep making her proud. I don’t joke with her. They insisted that the Old Must Give Way For The Younger Generation. They believe and Stand With Gov Dickson On Reforms. They want the Civil Service to be reformed for optimal productivity During the protest, one of the NDU graduate got people confused with the writings on his placard. Obviously, he can’t communicate properly. By DIAMONDZ BLOG Manager of Dangote Cement plant in Ethiopia has been shot dead, ahead of his visit to the country on Thursday, May 17, 2018. The country manager and managing director of Dangote Industries Plc, Ethiopia, Deep Kamra, has been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen, in Inchini, a local area near the company’s cement factory in the Oromia region, Ethiopia. Local newspapers quoted company sources saying Aliko Dangote, the owner of Dangote Cement and the richest man in Africa is expected to arrive in Addis Ababa on Thursday, May 17, 2018. Kamra and two more Ethiopians, a driver and a secretary, were shot dead in the restive city of Oromia on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, local sources told Addis Standard. “Our community is devastated; Oboo Gallatta (a local name given to Kamra) was like a father to many of us,” a source who preferred to remain anonymous told Ethiopia newspaper. Security forces are reportedly currently pursuing the assailants.
