Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson says the huge investment by his administration in the education and Sports sectors is yielding positive results, in view of the laudable achievements of the state’s indigenes in national and international competitions.

Governor Dickson who stated this when he received five-time winners of the Milo National Schools Female Basketball Championship, St. Judes Girls Model Secondary School, Amarata, in Government House, Yenagoa said the achievements were enough encouragement for the government to invest more in the critical sectors of sports and education, to ensure a bright future for the youths.

He congratulated the victorious basketball team and the principal of the school for emerging champions for an unprecedented fifth time and winning the right to represent Nigeria at the Schools World Basketball Championship in Greece, assuring that, the State Government would sponsor them to the championship.

He directed the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite and his Sports Development counterpart, Hon. Perekiye Buruboyefe, to work out modalities to ensure that, sporting facilities at the St. Judes Girls Model Secondary School are updated to enable the team prepare adequately for the global event in Greece.

Governor Dickson, who expressed the hope that, the team put up a respectable performance in Greece, announced cash gifts of 5 million naira to the players, 1 million naira each to the coach and officials, with the principal of the school and her team to receive 1 million naira.

Earlier in a remark, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite expressed appreciation to the governor for investing in the girls, who are all boarding students and have been winning trophies since he assumed office in 2012.
He explained that, the girls achieved the feat after emerging winners in the state, zonal and national levels, adding that, with the support.

Interview;

We learnt that you are coming out with a new film soon, can you give your fans an idea of what to expect?

Work is still in progress. It will amount to giving my fans what we refer to in local parlance as half chop. I will rather appeal to them to exercise more patience, so that they can enjoy the meal once we are ready. I can only assure them that, it is a brilliant movie with a loaded cast and by the grace of God it’s gonna be a bomb.


Loaded cast! So who and who make up this loaded cast?

We have Odunlade Adekola, Mercy Aigbe, Nedu of Wazobia, Ike Ogbonna, Hadizah Gabon and so. I can’t remember all the big names now but truly, it is loaded. Trust me.


Interestingly, we also hear you are going into politics, how true is this?

Well, I can only say that politics is knocking on my door. By this I mean that I have been approached several times by top political, personalities requesting that I join the groove but in my usual style, I like taking things one after another. I have a lot that I’m doing at the moment in the movie industry but surely with time, one can look at other areas of life.


Are you saying, you will give politics a deep and positive consideration soonest, remember 2019 is just around the corner?

May be you are speaking for me or do I say you are speaking my mind? But truth is the pressure is high and huge enough to make anyone want to step into the ring sooner than expected. But let’s see how things pan out. In life you never can say no or never to some things. But I doubt if it will be in 2019.
Already your colleagues like Yul Edochie and Desmond Elliott among others are into politics.

Aren’t they going to motivate you to delve into politics sooner than you think?

The personalities you have just mentioned incidentally are my very close pals both within and outside Nollywood. I respect them so much but we must understand that no man works with the time of another. They prepared for it before getting in. I have to take my time. Of course you know we are not from the same state of origin, therefore, some things have to vary and must be put in clear perspective. I mean that what worked for them may not work for me. So I need to step in when I think I’m fully prepared for it.

Critics say some of your colleagues in Nollywood are not very comfortable hence they try out other things like music and politics among others to make ends meet.

Could this be the reason you are looking at politics?


Let me quickly say that I am being asked to join politics by top personalities and politicians who feel I have the image, character and ability. Again, I think we have to clear the air here, I have not made up my mind yet to venture into politics because there are a lot to be considered. Don’t forget that I have a growing career, which is in the movie industry. I am not in a hurry to do things. In fact, all my life, I have never been in a hurry to do anything. I take my time, look at the variables, pros and cons before taking a decision.

Concerning those who you think take to music or politics, I must remind you that even the country is diversifying the economy and trying to look into agriculture and technology instead of relying hundred percent on oil which has failed us.

So, if any of my colleagues ventures into music or politics, it does not suggest that he or she is broke or bankrupt or he or she is not comfortable. Again, we must appreciate that man, by nature, is gregarious. He keeps trying new things and trying to acquire. If you have talent in music or you are a gifted politician that doesn’t stop you from following your passion in other areas of life.

Take for instance, my big brother and colleague, Richard Mofe Damijo. He is an actor, a lawyer and an administrator. You can even call him a politician. He has excelled in these various fields. He is a shinning example of a man of many parts. So, it is not fair to say that my colleagues who go into music or politics do so because they are not conformable. Far from it.


How comfortable is Mike Ezuronye?


It may interest you to know that I am from a very comfortable family. In all modesty, I am from a decent family. I thank God for the family I come from. Before going into the movie industry, I was looking at other areas like law, banking and so. In other words, I had a solid background. I have never been uncomfortable all my life. I must thank God for this. I am still comfortable and happy with myself, family and career. Comfort for me is not just about wealth or affluence anyway. You can have all the cash in this world yet, very unhappy.

A female hawker in Elele Ahoada axis got crushed to death by a petroleum tanker.

She was said to have ran into the petroleum tanker mistakenly in the course of duty.

The story was shared by a certain Facebook user.
The Facebook user shared this on his page.

Tears of sorrows loomed the hawkers family along the popular east west road within the Elele Ahoada axis yesterday as one of their colleague was being crushed and killed by a moving petroleum tanker truck.

According to our correspondence who witnessed the sad incident, he said the victim was selling corns and in their usual way of chasing after vehicles, she accidentally ran into the moving petroleum tanker and was crushed to death.


May her soul rest in peace.

The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico after their joint bid beat Morocco’s proposal to host it.

Morocco has lost out to the “United” North American bid to host the football World Cup in 2026.

The result was announced live from Moscow, where Fifa members have been voting.
It is the fifth time the North African country has bid for the competition.

The ‘United 2026’ bid was selected by Fifa member nations, winning 134 votes compared to 65 for Morocco.

The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held – with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.
Both Mexico (1970 and 1986) and the United States (1994) have previously hosted World Cups.

The Bayelsa state Governor, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, on Tuesday approved the sum of N500m, as a take-off grant for the Young Bayelsa entrepreneur Network.
Governor Dickson announced the approval, during the formal inauguration of the forum at the Executive Chambers of Government House in Yenagoa.

He urged the youths to shun negative acts and channel their energies to more productive ventures for their overall good and that of the society at large.

The Governor, in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Francis Ottah Agbo, explained that, the approved grant is a revolving loan, aimed at empowering the young entrepreneurs, stressing that, this is in addition to ongoing plans by the government to employ over 1,000 graduates into the state civil service.

He described the Ijaw people as hardworking, but lamented the attitude of some of the present generation of youths who have developed the negative mindset cutting corners to make free money!

Governor Dickson used the occasion to announce the creation of a business incubation centre, with a shopping mall by the fly-over in the State capital, disclosing that, a number of the shops are expected to be ready and allocated soon.

According to him, the young entrepreneurs will be among the first set of beneficiaries, who will be given the shops free for a period of two years, after which they would be made to pay a token amount to use it for their businesses.

In his remarks on behalf of the young entrepreneur Network, Mr. Biboye Emein, appreciated the Governor for his gesture towards the youths, stating that, they are ready to bring their wealth of experience outside the country to make Bayelsa a better place.



His words, “I am happy that we have a crop of young men and women, who want to change the narrative. The Ijaw people are hardworking and prudent people, but some young men of this generation want free money and that mindset has destroyed a lot of young people.

We want to be creator of wealth, we want to employ others but it is sad that most people are not seeing this opportunity that we are opening up, but in your faces I am seeing the future Dangote and all the big names in business, and the restoration government is ready to give that support for you to achieve that goal.

“Any Bayelsan that has an idea can get a grant to start up their small scale business, even the civil servant that wants to retire voluntarily, government is ready to support your business. We want to move to a state of wealth and we have set up for this purpose the School for Entrepreneur training. We have also set up a Micro bank in the state for our people to access.

“We have created a business incubation centre, the shopping mall by the fly over, a number of it will be ready and the first people it will be given to will be the young entrepreneur members, it will be given to you for free for a period of two years, thereafter, you start paying a token”.



Highpoint of the interaction was the presentation of Made-In-Bayelsa shoes and other articles to the Governor.

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has ordered the arrest of an official of a local government for collecting the salaries of 300 persons every month, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, has revealed.

Iworiso-Markson made the revelation on Monday during the commencement of a town hall meeting on civil service reforms in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner, who did not give the name of the errant official, hinted that the suspect is an Account Officer in a council in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District of the state.

Iworiso-Markson, who said the suspect was unmasked during staff verification in the LGA, noted that cumulatively the fraudulent officer was illicitly earning hundreds of millions of naira per annum.

He stated:

“Recently, Governor Seriake Dickson had to order the arrest of an official of a council. He (the official) was collecting salaries of 300 people. Yearly, the officer fraudulently receives hundreds of millions of naira.

“At the Bayelsa State Transport Company, you find a situation whereby you have about 180 drivers, but there are only five or six vehicles for them to drive. You can see the level of rot in the system. So, if we must be sincere to ourselves, we must all agree to join hands with the government to clean the mess in the system.”

Iworiso-Markson reiterated that the reform had come to stay, insisting that the people of Bayelsa must collectively redeem the state from collapse.

The Gunners have announced a new partnership which Goal understands to be worth around £1 million a year
Arsenal have announced a new partnership with music streaming service Tidal, the company founded by self-confessed Gunners fan and rapper Jay-Z.

The undisclosed deal, which Goal
understands to be worth around £1 million a year, will see Arsenal partner with the global music and entertainment platform which is available in 52 countries and is part-owned by artists including Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna and Usher.

The Gunners’ new partnership with their official music streaming partner Tidal will see content created between up-and-coming artists and has been launched with a playlist devised by Arsenal stars Hector Bellerin, Danny Welbeck and Reiss Nelson .

Additionally, all Arsenal paid members enjoy access to Tidal’s extensive library of music including a free six-month trial.
Jay-Z has previously been pictured at Emirates Stadium alongside fellow Tidal owner and Coldplay star Chris Martin, while Rihanna is another fan who was given a tour of the ground and met the first-team squad following Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Everton in February.

“Football and music are great passions of so many of our global supporters,” said Arsenal’s chief commercial officer Vinai Venkatesham.

“This partnership combines these two passions in a unique way and will give our members access to some fantastic benefits. It is also a celebration of our shared belief in young talent, and will create opportunities to bring together our players with Tidal’s rising artists.”

Recent commercial deals at Arsenal have included a £30m deal with Visit Rwanda.

It is also understood that talks are ongoing with kit manufacturers including Adidas who are favourites to take over from Puma when their deal expires at the end of the 2018-19 season.

The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide , an umbrella body of Ijaw youths , has condemned the killings of four persons during a military invasion of Oluasiri community in the Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

During a security operation on Thursday , a mother and her six -month -old baby and two other persons were reportedly killed by soldiers.

Southern City News learnt that the military operation was launched to dislodge suspected militants and sea pirates, allegedly hiding in Oluasiri community in Bayelsa State.

While some security personnel claimed the soldiers opened fire on the community following gunshot attacks from the suspected militants, the indigenes of Oluasiri community denied the claim , insisting that the military attack was unprovoked.

Reacting to the killings , the Chairman of the IYC, Central Zone, Mr Tare Porri , said the invasion was a provocative action by the military, alleging the development confirmed the suspicion that the military was sectional and biased.

He said, “ The military has insulted us to provoke war in our land. We call on the Federal Government to apologise without delay for this infantile act of deliberate provocation .

“ This wanton act is an action against the laws of human rights and a threat to democracy. We kick against the logic of civility in a supposed free society to deploy overwhelming weapons and personnel of warfare against a peaceful community within the ambit of non -violence.

“ President Muhammadu Buhari , as the Commander -in-Chief of the Armed Forces, must be held accountable for the military’ s actions. There could be no justifiable excuses why soldiers would invade and murder an innocent baby and others .”

The Nigerian government has reacted to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s claim that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was plotting his arrest on false charges.

In a statement released on Friday in Lagos, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said the Buhari Administration will not be distracted by “frivolous allegations from any quarter, especially those cleverly choreographed to divert attention from a widely-acclaimed presidential proclamation and to shore up support for a waning and egotistical cause”.
According to him, the administration was “too busy trying to clear the mess of 16 years and build on its unprecedented achievements over the past three years to waste its energy and time on framing up anyone or dwelling on issues that are not grounded in fact”.


The statement also read in part “those who have skeletons in their wardrobes should be afraid, even of their own shadows, innocent persons need not worry about any investigation, whether real or imagined.
”This administration will never engage in a frame-up of innocent citizens. That is neither in the character of President Muhammadu Buhari nor in that of his administration. Only the guilty should be worried. To paraphrase an African proverb, a man who has no wife cannot lose an inlaw to the cold hands of death.

”The administration is also strongly committed to the tenets of democracy, including freedom of speech and the right to dissent. But we understand that those who, in their time, were untethered to those principles would find it hard to believe.
“We are curious that the frame-up and witch-hunt allegations came a day after a major presidential proclamation reversing some past acts of injustice was made, to the relief and acclamation of a long-expectant nation.

”Apparently, the impact of this proclamation was too much to bear by those who, through acts of omission or commission, helped to deepen the wounds inflicted by the blow of injustice that followed an election that was widely acclaimed to be free, fair and credible, hence they felt the need for a red herring that will distract the nation.

”Added to that is the frustration brought about by the fact that the contraption they have so much hyped as a freeway to power has failed to gain traction. Faced with this double tragedy, even the strongest of men may begin to succumb to a figment of their imagination. They may start crying wolf where there is none.



“Unprecedented achievements of the Buhari Administration are also enough to cause sleepless nights, with the attendant symptoms that include phantasm, for those who had better opportunities to make the country great but floundered on the altar of narcissism”.

They say ‘Life opens up many unexpected changes, beautiful possibilities and even some disastrous heartbreak. That’s how life is – it’s spontaneous, amazing, painful and yet, undeniably fulfilling’. People usually compare their life to that of a roller coaster. Spinning them round and round with unexpected twists and turns. I realised my life has been somewhat different. I would say my life has been rather one heck of an Amusement park that harbours many rollercoasters.

For many years I had been jumping from one ride to the other in search of fulfilment to a void I felt Was empty. No matter the next ride I got in, it would take me to the same destination. A disappointing end to an exhilarating journey. This was the repetitive manner in which I lived my life. Little did I know that a higher being had higher plans for me. Little did I know that the Angels where looking down in heavy anticipation. Waiting for instructions from the Father to intercept my case.

You see life is like an unending school. Those who refuse to learn will never progress to a higher level. As I clock another year in the university of life I can confidently say that I am progressing to the next level. I have learnt so much in the class of Giving, Love, understanding and spirituality.
I want to thank God for the gift of life. There is nothing more precious.

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh suffered a backlash few hours ago for typing in tongues in the comment section of Ghanaian actor turned preacher, Majid Michel.

She has however taken to her IG page to defend herself that she is radical for Jesus and if people can type “Skrrr pp” for man’s not hot song then why can’t she type in tongues for her God.

Late last year Tonto Dikeh granted an interview with premium times where she talked about being so close to becoming an evangelist before backsliding.

Excerpts of the interview;

Why do you regret not having a mentor early on in your career?

Entertainment is not an easy path for anyone to tow because it can kill you, make you or destroy you. It has the power to do and undo, so as a mother I will tell everyone to be careful with the industry. But as an entertainer, I will say welcome to any fresh talent because there is no limit to what he or she can do with a talent. It’s even written in the bible that, ‘I will bless you through the works of your hands.


What is the secret behind your new glow?

Well, firstly I am born again and when you have God, you just radiate. So all the glow is from within; you don’t fake God’s glow. You also can’t fake God’s glory because it overwhelms you. I don’t know how to say what I want to say but when God steps into a situation or your life he elevates you and makes you see things in a different light. So, the glow you see is all God. I am a radical for Christ.

Do you plan to set up a church or become an evangelist?

Yes I will, before I became an entertainer I was close to becoming an evangelist but I backslid. But not to say anything, I am back with God. I don’t know where God is taking me to. But if it is the pulpit, I am ready.

So, are some of the backlashes you have received on social media lately a result of your being born again?

Well, even if I wasn’t born again, they will still come for me. You see, the devil cannot steal from an empty barrel; you have to be fully charged. I will go through a lot of things, whatever is happening now this is nothing compared to what is yet to come. What I have seen is not even half of what will come in the future. I am ready for more; there will be worse to come and I’m ready for it. When God prepares you in a different kind of way, I can fight my battles on my own strength.

WOMEN DON’T HAVE TO WEAR GOWNS EITHER AS CHAIRWOMAN GRETCHEN CARLSON PROMISES CONTESTANTS IN THE BEAUTY PAGEANT WON’T BE JUDGED ON THEIR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Gretchen Carlson, the new head of the Miss America board of directors has revealed that orgnisation will no longer judge women based on their physical appearance.
Speaking to Good Morning America, she said, “We are no longer a pageant. We are a competition.”

The decision comes close at the heels of email leaks that revealed former CEO Sam Haskell and board members frequently demeaned the physical appearance, intellect, and personal lives of former pageant winners, including Carlson.

Carlson, 51, was named chairwoman of the Miss America Organization just days after Haskell resigned in January.
Carlson hopes to usher in a new era for the organisation, revealing the evening gown portion will also be cut as well.

Instead contestants will be asked to wear any attire that makes them feel confident, expresses their personal style, and shows how they will advance the role of Miss America.
The swimsuit competition will now be replaced with an interactive session with the judges, in which the women will be asked to demonstrate their ‘passion, intelligence, and overall understanding of their job as a beauty queen’.

BAYELSA STATE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PROJECT ALONG AMASSOMA/TOMBIA ROAD IN SOUTHERN IJAW LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.

The Project which started in 2012 by HE Henry Seriake Dickson with a 3.5 kilometers runway which is said to be amongst the best in the country.

Once completed, the airport will provide connections between the rapidly-growing state and the rest of Nigeria, and neighbouring regions.

Dickson said the airport project which was the brainchild of his administration has now been scheduled for completion by the second quarter of this year as the earlier date for completion (2019) is too late.

According to a new report, Rihanna is no longer in a relationship with Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel.

MediaTakeOut News claims that Rihanna called off her rumoured relationship with the billionaire, because she “gets tired of men.”

The source also alleges that “the singer and him were together for a while,” but that it was the Rihanna that ended the relationship. MediaTakeOut News reads:

A Bayelsa state upcoming rapper and fresh graduate of NDU (Niger Delta University) Mathew Chris Enimiyefe aka 1daboy, was butchered to death yesterday by suspected cultists at the street of Tombia in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

The rapper 1daboy, according to some of his friends just released his music album.



His friends wrote;

Kim Kardashian West met with President
Donald Trump at the White House yesterday to discuss about sentencing and prison reform prison reform and the pardon of a first-time drug offender who is a great-grandmother serving a life sentence in prison.
The branding mogul has been advocating for a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, a great-grandmother serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Johnson has spent more than two decades in prison. Vanity Fair first reported the Kardashian sister would be visiting Washington and meeting with White House officials.

A member of Johnson’s legal team told CBS News White House reporter Jacqueline Alemany the meeting between the president and Kardashian was very “positive,” but the president did not make a decision during the meeting about whether or not he will move forward with a pardon.

Kardashian West tweeted about the meeting, she wrote;
I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon. It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense.

Brittany Barnett, Johnson’s lawyer, told CBS News they are grateful the Kardashian sister is using her platform to help Johnson acquire her freedom. Kardashian West has been in touch with Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner for “several months now,” Barnett said. Barnett isn’t sure if the president will grant her a pardon. Barnett said;

“We don’t know — what we are hoping to find out today,”
“It’s unconscionable that she is serving a death sentence. We are grateful that Kim is using her platform to raise awareness and hope that everyone looks beyond Kim and sees that there is a woman about to die in prison.”

One of the leading Fuji star, Alhaji Taye Akande Adebisi aka Taiye Currency, on the 25th of May, 2018, cheated death in a ghastly motor accident along the Ife-Ilesha expressway.

The incident occurred around 12.25pm, when the musician was going to Ado Ekiti for an event. The Toyota Hilux van, he was traveling in, somersaulted multiple times before being halted by a tree.

Taye Currency, his two managers and his personal assistant sustained head injuries, but are all doing fine now.
