One such social invention is the informal prescription of the etiquettes and social requirements of Hosting! It has become internalized into social prescriptions that a good host out of politeness and social correctness offers its guest the comfort, services and amenities of his home, a perfunctory obligation prescribed out of the need to regulate interaction such that the guest feels welcomed, respected, dignified and worthy of the reception! OP’s act of offering his rapacious friend the privilege of sharing a meal was no more than a perfunctory action or to be cliche ‘a fulfillment of righteousness’ . Now this same informal Canon of hosting that I have quoted expects reciprocity from the guest depending on the context of his visit! It is glaring that the friend is a regular visitor and as such is not qualified for any formality in his host’s reception as repetitive visits have trivialized such visits to casual social calls! Now altruism demands that in the event of severe deprivation, the guest in a casual encounter might avail himself of the offer to dine only on such conditions that such acceptance does not become repetitive, calculative, opportunistic, and habitual! Where such is the case, such guests are not to be allowed such privileges and it behoves on the host to restore the balance in the social cycle he engages with the guest! Poverty and Deprivation is not an excuse for a lack of discernment and sensitivity! It is ignoble and socially embarrassing to always answer the call of your belly at a whim! The infamous friend is nothing but an Oliver too twisted to keep his greed and debauchery at bay! Sentiments don’t make better humans!

Nigeria's democracy hasn't grown to the point of impeaching the president. It will take a while for us to get there.

It was only recently that an opposition party defeated an incumbent president, so our democracy is gradually growing.

Wrong again. In a system so flawed as in the case of Nigeria, where leaders do not really represent the aspirations of the people, you cannot claim these leaders have legitimacy. Yes they have power, but is the power legitimate? Do the people believe in these so called leaders. Recall the elections that throw up these so called leaders are seen as questionable. If the people will rather obey MNK than their governors, then you should know the leaders are not seen as true representatives of the people.

Buhari has carried out several unconstitutional practices, from removing a sitting CJN without powers to do so, to disobeying court orders, travelling abroad and staying months without handing over to vice; spending outside government’s budget. Why does it now seem setting in motion process for a referendum is the only unconstitutional thing he will do?

So disobeying court orders is not unconstitutional, but referendum without recourse to National Assembly is? Talk about hypocrisy.

Wrong. Power belongs to the people, not politicians. You want them to go through politicians who benefit from the skewed structure. No it’s wrong. If you feel breaking away is not a popular call by Igbos and I dare say many Southerners, Nigerian government should yield calls for referendum. When there’s true federalism with a weakened central government, states will begin to think as sovereign States. Tell your principal to support true federalism.

I like the way Southern Nigeria is waking up to demanding for a better federating system.

We have an army of unemployed youths, an army of uneducated children and young adults; and even those educated, what is the quality of education they get. If security forces are reformed, don't you think we still we have major challenge in our hands if these others are left unattended.

Besides with the current harsh economic situation, there's little an American trained officer can do to arrest crime in Nigeria.
