metronaija: A shocking video about Ghana’s ‘trokosi system’ released last week by Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua’s YouTube channel ‘Emmanuel TV’ has gone viral. The clip, titled ‘The Most SHOCKING Confession You May Ever Hear’, chronicles the heart-breaking ordeal of Mary Nenyo from Ghana’s Volta region and has raked up over 130,000 views in just a few days.
Emmanuel TV describes the 66-minute clip as “a bone-chillingly brutal tale of physical, mental, spiritual and sexual slavery that will move even the stoniest of hearts to tears.”
Speaking at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria, Mary narrated how her family gave her as a “virgin sacrifice” to Korle Shrine in order to “atone for the sin” of her great-great-grandfather which was said to be behind the curse of premature deaths occurring in the family.
“They took me to the riverside and initiated me on a journey of no return… I was then introduced to an old priest as my husband,” she recounted, explaining that all this happened in her tender infancy.
The elderly fetish priest would sexually satisfy himself with Mary at whim along with the other 500 maidens forcefully ‘imprisoned’ in the shrine.
“The priest would just point at you. He could call us chicken, goat or cow – because we were cows to him – then, he would sleep with us just like that,” she tearfully described.
Her duties included preparing ‘charms’ for people seeking protection at the shrine and beseeching the gods that more sin be committed so more innocent virgins could be entrapped into the vicious cycle.
As Mary grew older, she broke protocol by taking ventures outside the shrine’s confines, one day being spotted naked by a group of foreign tourists who took her picture.
Six months later, her ‘freedom’ was procured by the foreigners in conjunction with an NGO called ‘International Needs’, leading to the release of the 500 young girls who were in ritual servitude at the shrine.
However, physical liberation did not stop Mary from a living a life of spiritual slavery. Unable to trace her real family, Mary moved to 11 different locations but continued to experience “a series of rejection, maltreatment and abuse”.
Men had an unnerving sexual attraction for her and exploited her innocence at will. “The demons would enter the men and make them sleep with me,” she stated, adding that each promiscuous encounter was followed by dismissal and hatred from the men involved.
Plagued by terrible nightmares of snakes and increasing mental instability, Mary eventually found herself begging on the streets for survival at Madina Market in Accra. There, she finally met a ‘Good Samaritan’ and narrated her sordid story to her.
“She said that the only person would could deliver me from all those demons was Prophet T.B. Joshua,” Mary explained, adding that the lady fully paid for her journey from Ghana to The SCOAN in Lagos, Nigeria.
After Mary was ‘delivered’ from the “demons that held her in bondage”, she stayed in the church for several weeks. “Before, I never knew I was a normal human being,” she testified, stating that she could sleep peacefully for the first time in her life after prayer.
T.B. Joshua used his influence and resources to locate Mary’s long-lost mother, who was residing in Ivory Coast, and brought her to Nigeria to meet with her daughter in an emotional reconciliation.
The SCOAN additionally gave $1,500 to Mary to start her life afresh. “I have seen powers upon powers but there is a power beyond powers – the God who used Prophet T.B. Joshua to liberate me from darkness,” the former slave concluded.
The video evoked a storm of reactions, with several of Joshua’s foreign supporters calling on the Ghanaian government to take urgent steps to address the “inhumane treatment” still being experienced by victims of the Trokosi system.
MORNDEW: PLANNED NATIONWIDE PROTEST, WHO ARE THE CONVENERS?
I saw a message of a nationwide protest against the federal government and the current economic downturn in the country. I tried to read through the reasons for the protest and I got confused the more. I am one person who has always advocated for a total overhaul of our political system, institutions of goverment and agencies. I 've even advocated for us to vote people with credible antecedents and integrity into political office.
But in life we must question whatever we do as a people. The planned protest on the 5th of February 2017, who are the conveners of it? What is the modus operandi? What has prompted it? Who are the sponsors and what exactly are we protesting for or against? This must be spelt out to avoid it been hijacked by politicians, hoodlums and even the current secessionist criers. What are the things that should be demanded by the would be protesters? Regime change? Slashing of National Assembly members allowances and salaries? Slashing of all Government officials salaries? Speedy expedition of court cases? Putting a stop to unecessary politicking, halt of the current self sustenance policies? Or what exactly? I read from the article of the said protest that why has kerosene gone from #50 to #400. And one would ask, when was kerosene #50 per litre in Nigeria? What is the level of grasp of economic political and socio-economic situation by those behind the protest or is this another case of some group of people deceived by politicians to further heat up the already flaming polity and further frustrate Nigerians. Or another case of some youths who sat down in their room to formulate anything and broadcast it without any meaningful reasons behind it. Like the bathe with salt to cure Ebola years ago.
I learnt legendary musicians like 2face, has indicated interest in the protest but further comments from him reveals that he is not the convener but just retweeted the message. Those behind the protest must be bold to come out and brief the people about the upcoming protest and give it credibility. If not Nigerians should be weary of those who are only thinking of their pocket and need to fulfil their pledge to their sponsors. Nigerians mind what you Protest against or for.

This protest is a waste of time. FG can do only so much. What about your State Governments. All state governments have a budget what do they do with it, are they funding police army navy or air force, are they the ones building railways? Why can't they release funds for development. No their mandate is to use the fund and develop your states
Development starts with the communities so what has you governor done do far? Everyone attending this protest is a big hypocrite. If you can not question your governors for squandering you funds provided by FG, then all of you protesting have failed this country

On Saturday been the 28 of January pastor David Ibiyomie of salvation ministry came to my school Niger Delta University in Bayelsa state for a one day visit, now the church coordinators told us to put money in an envelope for papa's visit, imagine this is a state that most of the student here are starved on daily basis because their parents have not been paid salaries for more than 8 months now and are just managing, wr u expect them to get money to give the pastor, instead of the pastors to buy bags of rice full trailer come share for student, dey are busy lukn for more ways to extort more from them. Harbdulrasaq: His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR the Executive Governor of Kano State today visited the Watari Water Treatment Plant at Bagwai Local Government area of the state.
The governor toured the plant and inspected its facilities which has the capacity of treating 75 million litres of water per day but currently treating only 50 million due to lack of power as well as lack of some other machineries and is currently supplying 5 local governments in the State which is also the most recent treatment plant in the State.
The governor directed the ministry of works to fence the treatment plant, and also directed that proposal for the channeling of pipe to the main town of Bichi in order to join it to the plant to end decades of lack of access to clean water. He further said that his administration will connect the plant to the closest power grid to ensure steady power supply, as it is currently getting it’s power from Kankia in Katsina state.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has revealed that he officially wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari asking that the two armoured helicopters bought by the immediate past administration in the state .be handed over to the Nigerian Air Force.
He explained that he wrote the letter following the high custom duty charged for the helicopters and the refusal of the present administration to grant the Rivers State Government the waiver to clear the two armoured helicopters.
A statement issued by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media informed that the governor spoke during an interview with editors of Sun Newspapers Titles on Saturday in Port Harcourt.
The governor said that it was unfortunate that Security Agencies would resort to political propaganda and outright lies, when the facts of the two armoured helicopters are public knowledge.
He said: "These helicopters were imported by the immediate past administration. When I assumed office,we wrote to the Federal government that it was strictly for security use. What am I going to use armoured helicopters for?
"In any case, where will the Rivers State Government get money at this time to import armoured helicopters. The previous administration imported it because they had the money.
"I went to to the Federal Government to give me a waiver for us to clear the helicopters, but the Federal Government refused.
"I wrote a letter to the President and to assure him that the helicopters are meant for security purposes, it should be handed over to the Nigerian Air Force ".
The governor added: "I am surprised that they have started propaganda and political falsehood on the said armoured helicopters. What kind of country are they turning Nigeria into ?
"We stated that we cannot pay the custom duties because the helicopters are not for commercial use. They are to be used to monitor the creeks and track criminals.
"I wrote to the President to give the helicopters to the Airforce. It is shocking that the custom would turn around to claim that they inpounded the helicopters. The Chief of Staff to the President admitted that I have done well when I wrote the letter to the President ".
It will be recalled that the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi in December 2012 announced the payment of two helicopters for security surveillance.

Dotng: Bailout funds scandal: Governor loses $10m to mistress
A governor is under probe after the sum of $10 million he diverted from the bailout funds allocated to his state was hijacked by his mistress.
The governor was said to have commissioned his mistress to help him launder the said sum only for the latter to refuse to remit it in the slush accounts the governor provided.
Already, the money in question has been traced to a bank in the United States.
The Nation investigation revealed that the governor resorted to using his US-based mistress to stash the funds abroad in order to avoid monitoring by security agencies.
The cash was allegedly either wired or hauled in tranches in order to beat the nation’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
In spite of the governor’s tricks, however, security agencies were able to intercept the deal between him and his mistress.
It was gathered that the diversion of the looted $10 million by the mistress created an uproar that triggered the ongoing investigation of the deal between the love birds.
One of the sources involved in the probe said: “A governor from an oil-producing state is in soup and under probe by some security agencies.
“The governor seems to have been duped by his mistress who stays in Texas in the United States.
“The governor is worried after discovering that his girlfriend has defrauded him of $10 million.
“What started as a love affair and promises of good faith has turned sour.
“Yet the governor would not want his wife or the people of the state, who will be disappointed, to know about this ugly transaction.”
The security chief added: “Investigation so far indicated that the governor allegedly diverted part of the bailout funds meant for his state to the mistress.
“All relevant security agencies are already tracking how the cash was wired to the mistress as well as the whereabouts of the funds.
“Very soon, the details of the transaction will be revealed to Nigerians.
“This is why the government has decided to monitor how bailout funds and London-Paris loan refunds were spent.”
The Presidency in 2016 released the sum of N1. 266.44 trillion to 36 states within nine months.
The breakdown includes N713.70 billion special intervention funds to states and London Paris Club loan refunds of N522.74 billion.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had said 16 states were yet to disburse about N57, 663, 185, 735 of the bailout funds approved for them by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The agency also indicted some of the states for diverting the bailout funds which were meant for workers’ salaries.

The paymaster claimed he was asked to withdraw N15million in cash from the bank. The money stacked inside a ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag was meant to be delivered in Akindele’s home, according to him.
But the paymaster brought the bag to the Assembly Complex, where he was found out by other members of the assembly.
Questioned on the ownership of the money, he reportedly said it was meant for Akindele.
This prompted an instant rebellion with 20 out of the 26 members of the assembly moving to impeach the speaker at a short session.
According to Vanguard Online, 15 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and five member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) combined to carry out the rebellion.

“Huffington” was registered on November 19, 2016, and “Metro” on October 25, 2016.
