PoliticsRe: President’s Wife Off To Dubai by Meddler(f): 10:12pm On May 20, 2010
Haba!! Husband has not been made president for less than a month and she's already jetting to Dubai. For what?? Diplomatic mission, humanitarian workhuh Na wa ooo.
P.S. I just realized it's 2010 and we're still having to deal with same problem we were dealing with in the 90s. No steady light or Water. In this year when cellpones are not just for mere calling or in the era of Ipods, Ipads, Iwhateveryoucomeupwithnext we're still dealing with the problems of basic infrastructures.

But hey Madam First Lady if na Dubai you want go to safe journey
TravelRe: Nigerians Abroad: What Advise Will You Give Anyone Relocating Abroad? by Meddler(f): 11:16pm On May 19, 2010

It is interesting to see that one word which keeps coming up in many of the posts is "focus" . Apparently most Nigerians who had no focus at home and were drifting from one disappointment to another eventually escape abroad (wherever) and suddenly find focus and things begin to be better for them. The reason is not difficult to see. the system abroad forces you to find focus. In fact if you don't get focus quickly YOU WILL PERISH.

The same Nigerians back at home require everything to be done for them by government - education, food , job, marriage, intimacy , etc;  and even if they get headache OBJ, Yaradua and all the politicians stealing all the money are to blame. My driver refuses to pay tax because "they will steal the money" , yet complains about the bad roads. In fact many "Christians" will joyfully pay their tithe but will not pay their tax. Go and pay your tax first or you are as much a  thief as the others , and then you can be justified and be able to complain that your tax has been stolen.

Interestingly we see that when Nigerians who have gone abroad to find focus return home , their attitude to life and work is extremely different and they tend to see opportunities where others around them see failure . Sense has been knocked into them abroad and they have come to the realisation that life owes you NOTHING and whatever you will achieve it must be by having FOCUS. Now you can stop wondering why most progressive Nigerian companies prefer to employ employees who trained abroad. it is not about the education, it is about the killer instinct that they have acquired through getting FOCUS.
I recommend that government should compulsorily send every Nigerian abroad to find FOCUS , so that they can come back home and be useful to the country instead of complaining everyday about how the country is not as good as Yankee and Jand or even common Ghana mehn (emphasis not mine).
I couldn't have said it better myself.
BusinessRe: Nigeria Ebay Or Craiglist by Meddler(op): 1:42am On May 19, 2010
Yeah that's the problem. Setting up online payments b'cos that's what makes shopping online easy. So a site similar to Ebay will be a huge venture. But what about a site similar to Craigslist. In the sense, that you have a site where ppl can post stuff that they are looking to sell minus any online transaction going on.

there is nothing bad about weed,,,

it is a good thing top legalize weed, but in a country like Nigeria, it shouldn't be legalize.

We still have a lot of problem to tackle and weed shouldn't be one. Weed has never laid a good example in Nigeria. So, there is no reason to talk about it
wichita, KS hmmmm, Do I know you lolol. It's not every time I come across people from Wichita, KS on forums grin

BusinessNigeria Ebay Or Craiglist by Meddler(op): 4:52pm On May 15, 2010
I'm thinking of starting something like a craigslist or ebay where ppl can buy and sell stuff online (it won't be called craigslist or Ebay off course) I was thinking how viable a business like this would be in Nigeria amidst all the fraudsters and 419er's. I was reading a post here that got me thinking- people have actually conducted deals through this forum that actually worked out. Is it safe to assume that in spite of all these yeye 419er's there are still some good honest nigerians.

Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

@strangleyo
3)Should we just forget it and resign our faith to being a poor country?
No. We have all we need to be superpower, apart from the actual human resource expertise. Our civil servants need real training. We need to emulate the Japanese and Taiwanese models (not western, they aren't as compatible).
can u please elaborate a little about Japanese and Taiwanese model. I'm a lil bit familiar but not sure of all the details. Hmmm,  interesting
I almost wish there was a way we could have a round table discussion outside the FG and look for ways to implement these ideas. Great discussion.

PoliticsRe: Bbc, Olusosun And Nigerian Middle Class Hypocrisy by Meddler(f): 7:17pm On May 01, 2010
You need to acquire some humility if you are serious about contributing to development in Nigeria. The truth is from your unguarded utterances you know next to nothing about Nigeria.
I'm glad I read u're previous post before I posted my reply. Humilty? I'm not sure i understand where u're coming from? How does being humble play into my previous posthuh?
PoliticsRe: Bbc, Olusosun And Nigerian Middle Class Hypocrisy by Meddler(f): 7:05pm On May 01, 2010
What makes you believe that MOST of our problem stems from lack of competent leaders in our country?
I hope you're been sarcastic. if not then I'm not sure i know of an appropriate way to dignify your answer but I will give it a go.

Scenario
Let's just say you're handed N1 million absolutely no strings attached. U're given all the necessary tools to build the house of your dreams. And I mean everything. The only thing u have to do is pick out construction workers, brick layers etc. U start interviewing for these various open positions and come across great talents - people with 10-15 years experience doing this kind of work and they come highly recommended and then a couple that claim they have comparable skills and qualifications but have no way of verifying their so called qualifications and experiences. After the interview, u offer the job to the latter group. Couple years later your house is complete and to ur utter dismay u're house comes out looking like crap. Hmmm, I wonder why.

Now apply that analogy to Nigeria's situation and try and figure this out for yourself. And let me know if you need a more straight forward answer to your question.
PoliticsRe: Bushmen In America Give Jonathan Ultimatum by Meddler(f): 6:29pm On May 01, 2010
Yes ooh I won't go home because of lack of the basic necessities waw, waw, waw cry cry. Let me just stay in another man's land and keep complaining about what's happening some thousand miles away boo ho.
No one is willing to put in the work or help out. Just like dat Nigeria's problem will be resolved through mouth service. How do u think US was built? Through mouth service? Opinions like that just irks me. Like America, Britain or any other developed and developing country would be where it is if they all talked and did nothing.
And just another thing why is it only Africans that are diasporahuhhuh I've never heard about other nations in diaspora or does the term apply to Africans only?

PoliticsRe: Going Back To Nigeria - If He Can So can we, Nids. by Meddler(f): 6:49pm On Apr 27, 2010
A very good point was made here earlier: national growth can come from people participating in their countries out of the prospects of personal gains rather than altruism. The fact that there is personal gain for the acting individual does not negate their action's impact on their society or their heroism. If you think it is not not heroic to return - even if one has not been 'successful'- try doing so when in the same situation. You should understand that there is no guarantee for success upon return and that most people in Nigeria want to emigrate even if the gains are marginal. To return takes guts and any one willing to do so should be commended and not criminalised as an opportunist.

The prospect of material gain makes the return of the diaspora sustainable. Consequently, it makes their impact at home also sustainable. This is the only way the country can reverse the ongoing brain drain and get the badly needed skills it needs to develop.
Well put. And we understand that ppl move for different reasons but that could be a very hard decision for ppl to make and non one makes it lightly. It takes a bit of planning to make that move.
PoliticsRe: Bbc, Olusosun And Nigerian Middle Class Hypocrisy by Meddler(f): 5:02pm On Apr 25, 2010
Sad, but true, right now, most of the people who ask that justice in Nigeria should be perfect probably have minimal stakes in the country.
So true. People are just too scared to go back home including me. It's really hard for someone who has lived majority of their adult life in a first world country to make that transition. You go back with the expectation that the basic necessities will be there at your finger tips and the organization you're so used to. the sad thing is that there's no patrotism in our country. Every man/woman for themselves.
PoliticsRe: Bbc, Olusosun And Nigerian Middle Class Hypocrisy by Meddler(f): 3:32pm On Apr 25, 2010
Off course not. But most of our problem stems from lack or competent leaders in our country. If we have a competent, pragmatic and intellectual leader we might actually see some progress in our country.
PoliticsRe: Bbc, Olusosun And Nigerian Middle Class Hypocrisy by Meddler(f): 9:19pm On Apr 24, 2010
The 1st few pages of this discussion are pretty enlightening. I didn't know we had a middle class in Nigeria. When did that happen? I just see a clear and cut line. You are either rich or poor no in betweens. Having said that, Nigeria is the RICHEST POOR COUNTRY I know. It's not that we don't have the resources or means to progress - because we do. The only fact it that everyone by that I mean the people at the top are only thinking about themselves and their families. Corruption and greed rules Nigeria

Now you might say "hey that's not true or there's corrupton every where even in the so called US" and you're right! the only problem is that as they are feeding their bank accounts they currently letting some trickle down to the masses. It's just a way of camouflaging their crimes.
There are so many ways to build our country up again but we need infrastructures and security in place. We need a pragmatic leader not an idealist -someone who understands the very fabric of our Nation.

I really want to go back to my birth land to contribute in any way possible but dang the move just scares the ish out of me. And that is just not right at all.

Wow is it really that bad? I'm kinda scared now lol.

And Morpheous thanks for the advise.

Jeez that's just down right sad. Are there no young working class people in Nigeria anymore. I guess once you leave Naija never plan on returning. That's a real downer.

I'm thinking about relocating back to Nigeria after studying and working in the US. My parents reside in Abuja.
What is the job market like. Where can I find affordable flats/apartments. Not looking for anything flashy. Just looking for a nice, safe place to rent.

What's a decent place to live at? I guess my main concern is NEPA and water which is why i'm still a little hesistant about making the move.

I keep hearing that you need a plan in place before you make the move. Is it possible to get a job offer even without being present in the country. Any advice/help will be appreciated.

What can you tell me about Abuja because I haven't been back in ages. When I stayed in abuja (H.S days). It was very nice but I heard that it is a lot different now and very congested.
My post is not very coherent but please bear with me. Thanks again.
