Ok I've had my Starcomms Izap internet for about 2 months and I still can't watch or download videos. Watching a 3 minute clip from youtube takes about an hr. This is just plain ridiculous. I was told that this was the fastest connection here in naija but i can hardly do anything with it. Please anyone with solutions I'm all ears. Thanks

as if this would solve the problem. bet you enough innocent lives will be caught in the crossfire. only in nigeria would we resort to using the army in such fashion without fully utilising the police first. wetin i de talk? we get police?  Anyway, my prayers go to the children and their families
Ok peeps read and understand before posting. He was being sarcastic as in he really did not mean it. Please see the parts in bold. I mean c'mon ppl. I guess if he put an lol or smiley face u would understand that he wasn't actually considering using our imaginary police.
CultureRe: What Has Been Your Experience With Juju? by Meddler(f): 8:22pm On Sep 28, 2010
Half of the stuff I've read here can be easily explained. Unable to move or having the feeling that u're been suffocated in ur sleep no be Juju. I've had this constantly and still experience it till today. It's called sleep paralysis and unfortunately there's no known cause for it.
Flame eaters or whatever they are called do not equal Juju. There's the saying that humans only use 10% of there brain power. Maybe they have learned to tap up to 15% of that brain power smiley.

There's a technique called biofeedback (google it) we discussed this during one of my psychology courses. Essentially it's a technique where u learn to control specific body functions example: controlling pain, regulating heart rates, etc. The fact is that this is something that is taught, learnt and practiced over a long period to master it.

the point is that all this stuff that been cited as evidence as Juju is quite explainable but we have a problem of not wanting to understand anything in this country and instantly labeling it.

As a Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu puts it "Man's enemies are not demons, but human beings like himself". In essence. I'm more worried about the armed robbers, kidnappers, naija police, ill wishers than any Juju.
CultureRe: What Has Been Your Experience With Juju? by Meddler(f): 1:59pm On Sep 28, 2010
that's exactly what I said. We've found superman in Nigeria lolol. And we thought that stuff like this only happened in comics hahahaha.

One of the main reasons why we Africans have remained in darkness is that people are willing to believe anything they are told without bothering to check if its possible. we are to scared to check anything out just in case something may happen

I bet you if this jazz truly existed ,"Oyibo" would have found a way to market it. It is this same jazz that "oyibo" used left leg to scatter in Benin. Some people will tell you that Jazz does not affect oyibo. How silly.

Sometimes I wonder, if everybody is afraid of his neighbour jazzing him, who is actually doing the jazz? like people have stated here all the information is second-hand and all the people turning to snake and goat is usually young women.

If someone can take me to a proper jazzman that can prove that jazz works, I will hammer big time. If they say jazz makes money, what is the use of us exporting oil in Naija? if you sentence someone to death for armed robbery, instead of firing squad let us carry him to jazzman so that they can use his head to make money for the state abi? that one is even good source of foreign exchange as Nigeria will be helping other countries to execute people

like posters earlier, their is evil and there are evil people. You can mix poisons and concoctions for someone to eat/drink/rub and the person will come to harm. but if you say that if you bring human head and dollars will start reigning, that is mumbo jumbo
Amen brother!. Jazz ko, hip hop ni. Nigerians can be so irrational and every body will be swearing to u up and down that juju/jazz is very real.
I was reading one of the newspaper, I think it's Punch, and they were reporting about how armed robbers attacked a pastor in the church. According to their "eye witness" account, the armed robbers fired numerous shots and none hit the pastor. When that failed they went after the pastor with a machete but none of the robbers were able to cut the pastor with their knife.

At this point I had to check and make sure i was reading an actual newspaper and not some fictional article lololol.

DonOvero:
LOL exactly,  If JUJU existed it is typical for Africans to mismanage it. The 'Oyibo' would have marketed it and sold it back to us for twice the price!

Hang on, Maybe Bill Gates did that and look at him now,  if that was an African, instead of aiming big he uses it to make his enemy end up in a tree LOL
HAHAHAHAHAHA  smiley smiley smiley

Blah, blah, blah. Abeg sharrapp there!!!!!!
Complaining about westerners and behaving exactly like them too. Do u know that Westerners don't like taking responsibilities for their actions.
Is it time we started taking responsibility for our actions instead of blaming the West for everything. They didn't do anything to us that we did not allow them to do to us. Or are u blaming the western for the corruption in this country along with all it's ills.

And please lay off the pipe dude!

Hmmm sounds like a good idea and I always wondered why we couldn't utilize this forum for that purpose. But after being on here for a while it's obvious that this is not the right platform. This is a forum where we can voice our opinions and have an open discussion.

But it we really need a way of having open discussion like this in the outside world. We all share the same feelings about the degradation of this country and i'm sure everyone is just fed up but we don't have the right means of organizing anything. First and foremost we will need a way to get the word out there and with that we need a mode of communication that will reach everyone.
TravelRe: Is There Yoga In Nigeria by Meddler(f): 7:20pm On Sep 05, 2010
Sounds like an excellent idea. I did yoga and graduated to power yoga. Nigerian has gotten into the whole working out stuff. u could probably start off by offering yoga classes in a gym and then branch out if it does well.
The person who suggested Silverbird galleria is on track too. It will probably be the best place to start a biz like dat.

Currently vacationing in Morocco. Have to say it's quite a lovely and interesting country. So far everyone I've come in contact with are very pleasant. People here seem genuinely honest and helpful. I'm currently in Casablanca and had the pleasure of visiting Marrakech too. It's called the Red City because every single building is red.

I'm in love with the general culture. The families are so close knit and the food is amazing. I luv it here. The weather is so cool and u hardly see houses with ACs. And the houses are so majestic and grand. It amazes me how they tend to have more than one sitting area. So far what I've noticed is that there are no formal dining rooms. Just various rooms with an in built couch which are so ornately designed.

They have so many eateries it's ridiculous and the restaurants are outta of this world. They are so exquisitely planned. Oh and bread- well just say that Morocco will be a low carb dieter's nightmare. Every meal is accompanied with bread and I mean every meal even if u're having pizza lolol. They value their bread and they have a huge variety to choose from.

If you love to cook and love spices well welcome to spice heaven. There is so much variety it's ridiculous. And they are so affordable. For example, Saffron is so expensive in the US that I never bothered buying it. I just purchased around a pound of Saffron for $8!!! if that's not a steal I don't know what is. I just purchased 1 pound of cinnamon sticks for less than a $1.

The city is still up and coming. There's a lot of real estate construction going on and they are not affordable. Especially the beach side homes. Residences are already bought up even before construction is completed. They go really fast.

All in all it is a lovely city but the traffic is scary. They drive like crazy ppl here hahaha. Thank God I don't have drive here because I'll be dead. You technicaly have to learn how to drive all over again here.

Nigerians are one, funny kettle of fish. Some of you say Soyinka's too old. Well, what the heck are you "younger people" doing? Did anyone bind y'all with chains and prevent you from forming the political party? If you feel you're young enough and have a good agenda, go and join a political party and make a difference. Or form one. Just stop casting aspersions at someone who has put himself on the line more than several times because of your ungrateful selves.
Well said. Nigerians have way too much issue. see everyone bad mouthing Soyinka. What's stopping y'all from forming ur parties?

Good news but for who? undecided
PoliticsRe: Two Nigerias, Separate And Unequal by Meddler(f): 10:11pm On Jul 15, 2010
Jakumo:
Some deep thought went into this insightful write up, Kobojunkie, and it rings true on several levels.

If I may play Nostradamus for a moment, I predict a class war in Nigeria, in which the deprived majority express their loathing of the idle rich minority by killing them with extreme prejudice at every opportunity, in a generalized extrapolation of the treatment already meted out to the owners of flashy cars by the car-jacking gangs who kidnap them, and stuff them into the trunks of their own cars to suffocate slowly in the stifling heat.
Ok I just had to laugh at this. It's not funny but u're forgetting we're talking about Nigeria. C'mon now really a class war? Puhleaase, we are a complacent bunch by nature. If nothing has changed in 2010 what makes you think they will change in the coming future. Abi them just dey begin see rich ppl now?
PoliticsRe: The Brain And Scorching Sun by Meddler(f): 7:47pm On Jul 02, 2010
Great topic. I think it's time we openly discuss this problem/disease what ever you want to call it. I've been wondering the same myself. Why is it we rely on the Whites/oyibos so much. I have no problems with white folks. I can't seem to understand why we put the oyibos on a pedestal. We literally have everything handed to us to make Nigeria a great nation but yet we find every means to squander our resources.

Again I might be wrong in assuming this but most black nations that are indeed moving forward tend to have a decent amount of white/foreigners propelling their country. I can only speak of where I've lived before so I'm using Tanzania as a case point. They were more organized when compared to Nigeria or at least what I perceived. But one difference is that half of their population consisted of Arabs/Tanzania's. Another country will be South Africa. But off course we can also point to Ghana, never been there, but apparently from what I heard they are doing quite well.

But then again redsun if you're theory holds up, why is it that most African are more successful outside the country? Even more successful than their black counterparts in that country case in point- America?

But again it's just something I've also pondered. Just like you said redsun if we can get to the root cause our problem then we can start providing good solutions to them. Until then we might as well be rumaging in the dark.
PoliticsRe: I Hate This Country by Meddler(f): 11:30pm On Jul 01, 2010
OP please don't take this the wrong way but do u reside in nigeria or outside the country? The reason I ask is to know if the average Nigerian feel the same way we (ppl who post on NL) do? And if they do why aren't we more proactive. I'm beginning to think that maybe it's impossible to bring about change in Nigeria. Or has everyone just found a way to manage? Just curious.

Another thing I hate about this country is the marriage of religion and the state. Pray, why do we go to churches and mosques to do thanksgiving for Nigeria’s first coup in the guise of Armed Forces Remembrance Day? Why must we go through this same self-congratulation on October 1st when we have nothing to celebrate except poverty and corruption?
Well put.
