This is pointless. I believe there are more than 2 states in Nigeria? What about the other places? They don't deserve light?

Wilife:
Ok,

This thread is indeed truly funny not with the hilarious posts by Nairalanders,

Anyway, let me share with you my personal experience.

Left for the States and came back about 4 years later.

Spent 3 months so far and I must say it's been a world of intrigues!

Headhunted and relocated to Naija by 1 of the oil and gas multi-nationals,

My thoughts,

1) If you have money, u will really enjoy this country,

2) Lower your expectations to the barest minimum and make up your mind to succeed. Look at it this way…if you didn't travel out in the first place, u would have remained in this country and succeeded no doubt!

3) Drop every toga of 'I just came back from abroad' and behave like a Nigerian that you are,
No disrespect, if foreigners can live and do business here, nothing stops u from living and thriving in your fatherland.

4) Respect everyone u meet and greet them dutifully. That gateman may become your saviour tomorrow,
5) Make sure have a solid offer before heading this way…A lot of nairalanders can actually set u up well with the right contacts in the education field.

Above all, ask God for guidance and be sure u are moving back for the right motive
You have offered the best piece of advice here. Thanks alot this will surely assist me in my move. Are u in abuja or Lagos if you don't mind me asking.

PoliticsRe: When Are Nigerians Going To Stop Complaining And Start Doing? by Meddler(f): 9:38pm On May 23, 2010
Good evening, Nigeria. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine — the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition and complacency. I enjoy them as much as anybody. But in the spirit of commemoration, whereby those important events of the past, usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, are celebrated with a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this October the 1st, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into GSMs, and men with cutlasses will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now Government . They promised you order, they promised you progress, infrastructures and all they demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would suggest that you allow the first of October to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight (let’s just make it 5 months from now, our people get easily distracted), outside the gates of Government, and together we shall give them a first of October that shall never, ever be forgot.

So in essence go home with some seriously lowered expectation and just do things the opposite way. Gotcha wink
I think I can handle this

@meddler
I really don't know your preps but I will advise you prep yourself mentally before you return to Nigeria. I retuned to Nigeria in February after opening a coy in UK and in Nigeria and have been in Abuja ever since, I find it extremely difficult living in Nigeria having lived in UK for over 6years. So many things about Nigeria is wrong and I will advise you put up a structure on ground before you retun, and please do not fail to have a contingency plan in case if things do not go on well in Nigeria.
I will like to hear your experience when you are back. best of luck
I hear ya. I'm gng to rely on my savings till by the grace of God something pans out and also be registering for NYSC . So one year is gng to be dedicated to NYSC. But I am preparing myself mentally. Is it really that bad?? I mean I understand the lack of basic stuff i take for granted here but is it really that bad. I guess a part of me is just hoping that everyone's stance on Nigeria is being blown out of proportion. But oh well I'll be having first hand experience pretty soon.

Thanks for replying rebranded. i'll be in Abuja, that's where my parents reside. Well i'm keeping an open mind and hope for the best. I'm just hoping it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It will definitely be an interesting journey. I've been in the US for almost 10 yrs so this is definitely gng to be one heck of an adjustment cheesy
TravelTravel Agents Or Agency In The Us by Meddler(op): 7:54pm On May 22, 2010
Please has anyone used a travel agent in the US and can you give me their name. I'm trying to compare rates to see if booking online or thru an agent will be cheaper. Thanks
CareerRe: The Prostitution In The Nigerian Banking Sector by Meddler(f): 7:42pm On May 22, 2010
I'm confused, why are ladies forced into doing this. My mom told me about this and I still don't understand. Can't these banks just place adverts in newspaper or on the tele or billboard. How about providing incentive, running specials to attract customers huh

One thing you should know about returning to Nigeria, you need a well paying job so as to at least buy the comfort you are used to over there in the UK or else you might not entirely enjoy it. You know best the reasons why you are returning, so comfort might not entirely be a big deal to you

I returned to Nigeria for 2years, after living 6yrs in the US and concluded i will rather live in the US than live in Nigeria and i have returned back to the US. You might hear that Nigeria is developing, but my opinion still has a lonnng way to go.

What i would say you should expect is, you cant change much in Nigeria because there are more people that have accepted the way things are done.
Pitfalls - negotiate for a good position before going to Nigeria.

Goodluck hope i was of some help

I do aplologize. Don't mean to hijack your thread. Rebranded what part of naija were you leaving in? I'm returning home too. what was your experience like?

PoliticsRe: When Are Nigerians Going To Stop Complaining And Start Doing? by Meddler(f): 7:14pm On May 21, 2010
I actually agree with you OP. It's time we stepped up and started holding our govt accountable. If you're ready to start a protest march i will be right behind you grin.
I have read so many interesting topics on NL and really great ideas. Only wish there was a way we can make all our ideas and voices heard on the streets.

NL will be a force to be reckoned with if we could pull something of that nature off grin
PoliticsRe: President’s Wife Off To Dubai by Meddler(f): 6:05pm On May 21, 2010
I think a couple ppl here are missing the point. Yes Madam first lady has the right to travel to any where she wishes too. But c'mon guys we've seen and heard all this before. A year later we will start investigating her on money laundry. This is Nigeria. We gotta start questioning these ppl and holding them accountable. All asssets needs to be declared. She's absolutely not allowed to leave the country and spend our money as she sees fit. Especially if u're a leader in Nigeria
Unless i'm wrong, what's her other source of income we don't know about. so this is news b'cos

A) Nigerian leaders are known for corruption
B) we know politicians who leave the country are always there stashing money
c) We know that's what they do. so why the denial peepshuh

How in the hell is that Socialist are u even listening to yourself!!!! Dude wants to build a bloody freaking floating city what sense does that makehuh? Initiative means starting from the basics and building up. You don't go from point A to Z. It makes absolutely no sense at all. Floating city is not gng to help anything in the Niger Delta. Have you stabilized the environment, have you gotten to the root cause of the problem? NO

I really don't understand the way some ppl think. WAKE UP LEADERS OF NIGERIA. THE DEFINITION OF MADNESS IS DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND ALWAYS EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT.

floating city ko, floating city ni. Dang morons!
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Plans Floating Cities In Niger Delta by Meddler(f): 10:26pm On May 20, 2010
Errr I think I like the idea of the floating cities better. Your input just sounds too realistic and easily applicable and achievable grin.
