Viral load test, Cd4 count are performed on patients undergoing ART treatment. This is done to ascertain the no of virus presents or being eliminated, to know how responsive a patient is to the treatment.

For your Eliza test, kindly visit a teaching hospital or Federal medical Centre and explain what you want to do.

Health / Re: Lackadaisical Practice In Lagos Hospital: My Personal Experience by Meel: 9:49am On Aug 22, 2019
Most health workers aren't happy with there job because of the financial gratification they are getting ( which is different from what they perceive to get). These attitude lead to transfer of aggression to patients.

In a saner climes, Dr don't treat without ascertaining what's really wrong with the patient, but over there patients pain are being soothed with analgesic, NSAIDS.

But not all medical practitioners are wicked or lackadaisical.

I felt like sharing so others will learn, this might also create awareness as I feel a lot isn’t done to educate people about the insidious HIV.

I will try to be as brief as possible. Sometime this year I had a fling with a girl, I have always been careful as to use protection when I ever I have sex, unluckily for me my condom broke, I realized this immediately and pulled out, got a new condom and continued, wasn’t up to three weeks or so I fell ill, malaria like symptoms and all, during that same time I started having some hiv symptoms like.

Had to go for a test it came out negative, this was around week 4 or so. Despite this test I knew I was positive, I just had the feeling I was, the doctors and lab attendants were just playing it down, no disrespect but most lab scientists here have really poor knowledge on HIV test kits and all.

The hospital you went to, are to be blamed.

whenever someone is asked to do Hiv test, and he/ she test negative the logical thing is to ask to repeat the test again after 3 month.

Please check your result very well, the comment will be "Not reactive for Hiv 1 and 2 antigen". Hiv results don't come out as positive or negative.

Rapid diagnostic test kit are used for screening, ELISA method is for confirmatory. ( ELISA test results can be ready within 12 hrs if you can pay for it) .

Wishing you all the best.

You will do mathematics at your 100L for both... Then some engineering courses at 300L for MLS...

Its not a core engineering course, it is biomedical engineering.
It teaches students how to do little repair of laboratory equipment and machine.

Not a core engineering course

Pharmacy duration can be 6 or 5 years (B.pharm and pharmD )depending on the institution while MLS is 5 year ( Doc MLS is still in progress).

Pharmacy is a professional course that deals with drugs dispense ,
medications, counsel patients on the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications, and advise physicians about medication therapy.
After being licensed by PCN, you can be a
Community Pharmacy, Clinical pharmacy,
Industrial Pharmacy, research scientists.

Medical Laboratory Science is a profession that uses chemical, hematological, immunologic, histopathological, cytopathological, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens, to aid physicians in making decisions.

They work as Clinical Scientists in hospitals, private laboratories, research scientists, Biotechnologist, quality Control officer .

In terms of government employment, MLS are employed more than pharm. But in terms of private practice, a business oriented individual can get more in pharmacy compared to MLS.

Career / Re: Nigerian Doctor Doctor Narrates Trouble They Face To Get Their N40K Salary by Meel: 7:01am On May 06, 2019
its law of demand and supply coming in play. I laugh out a lot when I attend inductions of medical graduate, that those (clownish) council members will saying we don't have sufficient health care workers.

Base on facilities on ground , I will say we partially have sufficient health workers. All states have just a FMC/teaching hospital. And there is a limit to number of staff they can accommodate. The government should build more facilities to accommodate new health graduate, allow health services available to every one, and lessen the burdens of existing ones. ( All these i know is impossible). And with the inception of medical schools by private university, come next 10 years , medics will be as undervalued as teachers.

Crime / Re: Imo Police Kill Martins Nwoke, Dismissed Sergeant In Gun Battle Over Kidnapping by Meel: 11:12am On Apr 29, 2019
Mobsync:
Is the police trying to say the kidnappers engaged them in a gunfight with a locally-made pistol?

The police should seriously work on apprehending suspects instead of killing them.

Some of you might support instant judgment, but you should always remember that an innocent person could also be killed after being mistaken for a victim.

Mass killings also encourages these officers to go after civilians and label them criminals after they are killed.

Then there are the innocent people who could be shot during the shootings.
I am not supporting the police playing the jury, judge and executioner, but when they arrest some of these misfit , they will later be released (power from above ) back into the society.

Everything boils down to lack of trust in the judiciary. If citizens trust there judgement and it is fast ( not like Evans case still in court for the past 3 years). Jungle justice and police babaric acts will be condemned.

That it is unclassified does not mean a CGPA is not being computed for you.

Your final degree is unclassified but you get graded from 100 to 600 level.

That's how their school runs, it been for decades and best students have been awarded accordingly.

It applies to all courses in the Bermuda triangle...pharmacy , vet and human medicine

it is not graded bro.

The best student is chosen, by number of distinction a student has.

e.g distinction in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology, e.t.c.

The students with highest number of distinctions is the best student.

I have read a lot on this thread and I feel so ungrateful for the things I have presently.

It's not easy out there. I am in my finals and I still don't know why many of my colleague don't see past the current sch thing. In few months we will graduate.. Go for NYSC and get hit by the real life.

I am always worried about life after school. I try not to think it but still I need to plan . what if I am unable to cope with the life after?. I am currently doing fine financial as I freelance and have a steady income but still that's does not define my happiness. I have no one to share my worries with. I am considering going into a relationship but I wonder be able to handle any girl for now cause am always working. In my lonely time I go out to drink just to pass time but I can't continue like this forever. I wanted a good life, I have half of it and now it all looks like happiness doesn't exist because of this loneliness and overthinking of the future.

My case is kinda of similar to yours.

I transferred from a public uni to a private uni due to incessant strike. In the University we pay millions per session , my parent are kinda of middle class. We can afford the bills , but sometimes i feel we are wasting money.
Worrying and overthinking has being my forte nowadays. Worrying about job to do after grad , how to make money , hope am not wasting my time studying.

I worry too much, to the extent that it is affecting me psychologically. Anytime i come to nairaland and see people lament of there joblessness, i will have a sleepness night that day.

Even though i now read books , listen to messages, that fear , and worrying is still there.

I kinda of suspend all relationships for now.

Health / Re: Immune System Is Potential Culprit In Causing Cavities, Damaging Fillings by Meel: 2:38pm On Apr 20, 2019
i believe most white blood cells like neutrophils uses Reactive Oxygen species ( hydroperoxy, hydrogen peroxide) , lysosome as medium in destroying bacteria's and other pathogenic microbes in the body.

This ROS they use are free radicals , and free radicals are known for causing oxidative damage. So stimulation of immunocompetent cells to produce polymorphonuclear Neutrophils will lead to production of free radicals then decay of cavity, if its not properly regulated by cytokines and other growth factor

I was feeling hotness of the body and weakness so I went to a private hospital my bad.

After seeing the doctor and test, I was taken and given an injection, Duramol by a nurse Eliza. The nurse chooked the injection without getting the veins in my hands. Removed it with blood mixed with the injection, another doctor maybe doing housemanship collected it and finished the job but the damage was already done. I felt dizzy, weak like I was dying. I had to lie down. I asked them the name of the drug before this incident as if I had a premonition of what would happen.

I am feeling better though but the hand is still swollen. Thank God for life...

Pls i have a passion for hematology and would like to study about it as well as doctoring in a hospital preferably sickle cell hospitals .I am currently studying biochemistry in uniben but am planning to transfer to med lab sci .I discovered that a masters for hematology is available after completion of the course.I would like to know if i can work as a medical doctor specialized in hematology after completion of the masters.Or do i need to study medicine and then specialize in hematology before i can doctor in sickle cell hospitals and centers. Also will d pay be same for both paths .And lastly if i can use the B.mls and msc hepatology degree to wprk as a medical doctor will i be employed as a resident doctor or consultant. Pls guys i need ur answers and suggestions

Msc haematology only makes you an academician not a clinician.

If your dream is to be a medic, I would advise you to either cross to MBBs or get another Jamb form.

If you even get your BMLs , you will never consult, your work start and ends in the Lab. Post grad can only make you eligible to be a lecturer in MLS.

He has been a long time friend of the saraki's, I even heard a rumor that he his the chauffer of Saraki father whenever he his in London.

No matter the profession, your personality comes first. We have scenarios in which a father defile his daughter, uncle raping 2 year old niece. All these trait are inborn, so no matter there profession they will be a pervert.

In Medicine, we have code of conduct and ethics, for a Dr to do anything with a woman, a nurse or orderly that is a woman must be present. So if a Dr want to check on you, you can ask for a lady to be present if you're not comfortable with him alone. (KNow your right pls).

So labeling a set of professional by the actions of a few bad eggs is out of place.

Politics / Re: Has Bukola Saraki Served Kwara State? by Meel: 3:22pm On Jan 05, 2019
hmm
In life everyone cant and would never succumb to the same school of thought. Be it in politics, religion, economy e.t.c. Everything is about perception, I.e how I see things and how you see things.
Now back to the matter , which is about Kwara state and leadership. We all know the system of government being practiced in Nigeria is democracy ( which is government of the poeople by the people and for the people) thereby making democracy a game of numbers. He who have the highest numbers has the vote. Nigeria politics is not Democracy but Oligarchy ( government run by the few especially the wealthy). So in nigeria politics, so far the set of people ( oligarchs) are enjoying things then all is good irrespective of the well being of the masses( who are those that really matters).

Now refuting your points, you said .
As turbulent as the political atmosphere may seem today in Kwara State, if you ask around, even today, the name Saraki is synonymous with politics and governance in Kwara State, because there is virtually no family who has not benefitted from the positive impact of Dr. Saraki and his family.
Saying no family has not benefited is a complete fallacy, Fallacy of hasty generalisation / ambiguity . How do you arrive at this conclusion please. Ivan ( one of the greatest tyrant to ever rule) government benefit Anastasia Romanov and his conhorts. so I believe people in his inner circle will always benefit from him.
So you said Oloje , oko olowo, oja iya people benefited from him. With all due respect sir, do you envision the life they are living there for yourself. Those people live in abject poverty, I mean abject one, the standard of living there can be compared to IDP camps. The only thing they enjoyed from him is ; , 5kg semo, igara cloth, and 500#. And during Ramadan period they get Akara and pap.

And when you spoke of empowerment , as I said earlier it is only for the people in his saraki family.

I have no personal qualms against Dr Bukola Saraki, he his a man of excellence, strategist. But what he his doing in Kwara State is in no way different from other Nigerian politicians be it PDP, Labor party, APC and co. They are there to serve themselves and there cronies alone and enrich there pocket. But the difference between Saraki and other politicians is that Saraki , he holds grips unto Kwara like a crab grips a man manhood. Other state politicians are on there toes, they don't do things and get away with e.g Akala of Oyo, mimiko aregebeshola(even though Fg still had it way). and co.

In science when we compare things, we have a standard in which we use in comparison.

which is Kwara state being compared with??

I am not partisan, neither do I vote or support base on ethics or religion. i stand for good governance irrespective of the individual. But we say no to godfathers like Tinubu Saraki in Nigeria. Let the masses decide, so they will always know whatever the outcome, it is due to there decision, not imposed fellows
