Yeah, absolutely which is why it pisses it me off when they say "learn this and that" to get jobs when the demand is almost non-existent.

Make una try target international markets too and do projects alongside.

As a beginner analyst, the skills needed are Excel/Google Sheets + PowerBI/Tableau + SQL, adding python to it even should only be an option.

To become an expert at something the advise is learn then practice, then you will know.

I have completed some series in excel, I have being learning for months now. But the issue is the rarely used shortcuts, function and skills don't stick.

Which excel project will you recommend to embark on, that will enable me get more Familirised with the functions. I have learnt.

Is education expensive?? Yes
Is medical education more expensive?? Yes
Is education subsidised in Nigeria?? Yes

Does Nigeria Leader have the moral right to remove subsidy from education?? No.

Is the expensive education worth it in Nigeria?? No
Nigeria society places too much value on the certificate obtained from formal education, not even the knowledge acquired. Nigeria system of education is not knowledge driven but certificate.

As a medical graduate myself, if your aim is not to travel out and make advantage of less expensive medical education acquired in Nigerian to earn in developed country or you have a father with sure connection for Job. Pls don't waste your time striving, struggling mentally , financially to acquire a medical degree.

I see daily thousand of underpaid doctors, nurses e.t.c. Education is a form of investment, why should you invest millions in medical education and you're offered #50000 as monthly salary. Yes we have Medical Dr being paid such a meagre amount of money. Other health professional are even paid far worse than that, I have seen MLscientst being paid 25000 per month.

Schools like AFE babalola, Nile university, babcock where the medical students pays more than 4 million a session to acquire the degree, spends close to 30 million before the end of the program.
This literally means that it will take them good 15 years before they can earn the invested money. And these schools are not attended by wards of medical practitioner but politician and businessmen. In conclusion attending this schools and practicing the profession equate to not being able to send your own ward to school you attended( which I translate to failing).

My advice to aspiring medics, endeavor to attend cheap medical schools and leave the expensive ones to wards of politician and rich bizness ppl. Striving by all means ( loans, sacrifice) to attend this expensive medical school is not worth it in Nigeria. ( This is coming a private University medical graduate)

Healthcare bioinformatics is a large sector that recently has attracted the attention of entrepreneurs in industrialized countries, and the business is growing at an alarming rate. AI can be used in bioinformatics to aid clinical research and analysis, which can lead to the development of novel medications and vaccinations, disease diagnostics, and even pandemic forecasting. Wearable technology is a good illustration of how AI may be used with bioinformatics. Many types of wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smart jewelry such as watches and rings, are already familiar to consumers, and they make personal use of the data collected.

Given your academic background and knowledge of Python, I believe this topic is a suitable fit for you. Take a look at some background material on the subject first.

There are a few basic requirements for each Machine Learning/AI project:

--- Data: You will need lots of medical data from at least 8000 diabetic patients. The more the data the better! The source of the data is important and you must also know what type of features are needed to build such a model.

----- Data Processing (cleaning and tunning): Learn how to clean the data

--- Training the data: Learn how to train the data

---Test and validate: the trained model will need to be exposed to unseen data to test and validate its performance.

--- Evaluate optimized model: You need to optimize the trained model with unseen data.

---Deploy the model: You will need to deploy your model mostly a user interface either web-based on a mobile app.

---Update deployed model: As new data comes in, it's advisable to keep updating the model.

This project is conceptualized as shown in this image below, I extracted it from this site:

https://blog.global.fujitsu.com/fgb/2019-09-27/how-can-ai-help-develop-personalized-treatment-for-diabetes/

Thanks for this sir.

Diabetes which is a carbohydrate disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due insulin defficiency and resistance leads to many complications. Early diagnosis and proper sequencial therapeutic interventions reduce incidence of complications and increase life expectancy.

Though the treatment plan after diagnosis depends on severity and age, the first line of treatment is change in lifestyle and use of biguanide. After the initial intervention, the response level is checked, if there is a positive response, status quo is maintained but a HBA1c level <7 leads to inclusion of basal insulin, and other hypoglycemic agents to the interventions.

AI now comes in here, it will allow us to know the appropriate therapeutic interventions for each person ( personlised treatment) after diagnosis using a known pattern, instead of more of a trial and error treatment type. We have particular treatment regimen that works for each patient.

The project is a long term cross sectional study. Getting 8000 data set means working with all tertiary healthcare in a geopolitical zone( the average diabetic patient attending endocrinology clinic of a tertiary clinic a years is less than a 1000).
Thanks so much for this sir, i will be involving my colleagues in this, and update you as it progress.

Possible Thesis Research Ideas For Science-based Programs

Based on the resources available, students, supervisors, and project assessors can propose the following thesis research proposals. Every practical advancement is built on research solutions, and modern civilization is reliant on them.

-----AI-driven smart solar-integrated hydroponic system for cultivation of vegetables and herbs

-----Development of a green hydroponic bio-nutrient solution for vegetable and herbs cultivation

---Study, extraction and characterization of insects as a promising source of biomaterials for textile industries

---Insect-based biorefinery for converting waste biomass into marketable protein and energy

---Characterization of nutrients recovered from dairy effluents for production of high-performance biofertilizer products

---Low-cost hybrid optical-electrochemical sensor for detection of pathogens and toxins in water and food samples

--- Development of biogel-based nanosensors for the rapid screening of food mycotoxins

---AI-based fake product detection for retailers and consumer brands

---Machine learning approaches toward personalized treatment of diabetes

Kudos prof, for the good work you're doing here sir.

I am a graduate of Biomedical Science ( clinical biochemistry). I would love to work on the last topic "Machine learning approaches toward personalized treatment of diabetes". I have worked on diabetes mellitus during my undergraduate days, but it's just on the biochemical parameters.

I am a bit versed in python programming, but just randomly into Machine Learning and AI.

I have reviewed some literature in regards to ML/AI in diabetes, but I would love if you can conceptualize the project sir.

Healthcare informatic/bioinformatics is a field i would love to specialise in the future and having publications here should seem right.

Thanks for consideration sir.

I believe I am in the position to point you in the right direction being a medical laboratory science student in his finals who has a side gig in IT.

The big question is what do you want to do with Medical Laboratory science??
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years??

Answers to the above questions will go a long way in allowing you make good decision.

Medical laboratory science is becoming saturated day by day. The well paying Jobs are federal government Jobs. Private practice is an obstacle that takes some level of tenacity to overcome. I will not sugarcoat things for you, the profession is a shadow of itself.

Interns payment is being debated, privatisation of federal hospital laboratory is being considered. The financial proceeds from the profession is getting dim day by day.

If you don't have a solid plan on what to do with the profession, and you depend on government for Job ( you don't have connections) , you are on a long thing. Professional courses which majority view as a sure banker to employment is no longer sure again oo.

IT is the new oil, but reward from this takes some level of skills and time, web is saturated ( from my perspective). Search out for other areas of IT.

As some has said, you can learn programming simultaneously with schooling, which I am in support of. But medical laboratory is hectic to be combined with a thorough programming endeavor.

Final take home, as a lab technician, you should have worked under few scientists. Which of them do you want to become??

There is a regular saying by my dad "Omo araye buru ju esu lo"( humans are more wicked than the devil himself).
I am not well versed in issues like this, so i dont have anything to say. But the lesson I learnt a here is Golden.
1.) Always have a will regardless of age
2.) Marry a competent woman, who can manage my property even in my absence.
3.) My extended family should never be sure of what I possess, and my properties.
4.) For the love of my wards, marry a woman and ensure you are both loyal to each other. No room for adultery.

Female mosquitoes of all species exist in tropical regions.Since only female mosquitoes need blood for reproduction,Plasmodia are ingested during a blood meal from an infected Host thereby increasing the transmission of malaria parasite which is endemic in these regions.

Hypothesis:All female mosquitoes are potential carriers of malaria parasite!
Yes the alternate hypothesis : All female mosquitoes are potential carriers of malaria parasite!
But the acceptable Null hypothesis which any form of experimental/observational research has not rejected is that only female anopheles Mosquito transmit plasmodium spp and causes plasmodiasis

Why should other subfamily of cullicinae transmit plasmodium when there morphology doesn't support it??
What is the human infective stage of plasmodium
A vector is an organism that does not cause disease itself but which spreads infection by conveying pathogens from one host to another.
A host is an organism that harbours another organism , which through the course of there relationship, the parasite get it shelter and from from it host. The relationship could be parasitic, a mutualistic, or a commensalist guest (symbiont).
We have different types of host, Definite host ( adult stage &where a parasite reproduce sexually), intermediate ( reproduction here is asexually) , abberant host(conditions are not adequate for survival, further development, or sexual maturity and reproduction. But they can still be pathogenic in the case Toxocariasis, which is Dog roundworm in man), reservoir host, paratenic host e.t.c.

Plasmodium spp life cycle is an
indirect life cycle wherein a parasite is transmitted from one host to another by using a vector or by an intermediate host of another species. Man is the intermediate host, while female anopheles mosquitoes is the definitive host.

The sporogonic cycle which occur in mosquitoes begins during feeding of the female mosquitoe on man. Gametocytes, which occur in male and female forms are ingested during blood meal, [ b] they mate in the gut of the mosquito [/b ]and begins a cycle of growth and multiplication.
After some days, the matured sporozoite migrates to the mosquito’s salivary glands. When the female Anopheles mosquito takes another blood meal on another human, with the aid of its proboscis it, injects the sporozoites, which migrate to the liver, thereby beginning a new cycle.
What makes the anopheline difference from the cullicine sub-family
[ b] The ingested gametocytes will mate in the gut of the anopheline mosquitoes, and develop into sporozoites, but this is different in the cullicine, because instead of mating and developing, there will be an immune response against the ingested gametocytes causing it destruction and not growth into sporozoites.[ b/]
As I asked earlier ,What is the human infective stage of plasmodium in mosquitoe
If the human-infective stage are sporozoites from the salivary gland of a mosquito, then how do gametocytes mate and develop into sporozoites when ingested gametocytes are destroyed the cullicine body immune system??

For your hypothesis to be true, it is either the human infective stage of plasmodium is gametocytes or there body has now adjusted and favorable for sporozoites development.

A man that can fly to any corner of the world without a jet or an aeroplane. he can even fly to other planets. Homelander has got to be the most powerful super hero in Tv history. The only human that can defeat homelander is called Delilah in the series called the originals. Aunt Delilah to me is the most powerful witch in TV history. Only those that have seen The originals, knows what i am talking about.

Okay, Op How can we identify a male mosquito from female mosquito, so we don't kill innocent soul
Male mosquitoes don't bite humans, they are not vectors for any disease. And they feed majorly on nectars.

The reason female mosquitoes bite humans is for there ovarian development.( Blood is required for there ensuing gondatrophic cycle. ) Human also serve as intermediate host for plasmodium,( where they undergo asexual reproduction).

So bros male mosquitoes no go come your side.

You are wrong!

All female mosquitoes have the *Plasmodium* parasites in them
and they transmit same too!
Your assertion that all female mosquitoes have plasmodium in them is not so true.

In the family cullicidae, we have two subfamily Anophinile and cullcinae.
The family cullicinae has aedes egypti, culex pipens ,mansonia
The family Anophinile has the genus Anopheles , species Gambiae(common here in West Africa), stephensi ( India).

Only the female of the sub-family Anophinile are known to serve as intermediate host and vectors for plasmodium spp.
Though other females are also vectors, e.g aedes egypti ( zika virus, dengue, yellow fever e) mansonia( Filarias) , culex ( encephalitis). 1

After spending 3 years in a crisis ridden state owned university I transferred to a private university and I know so many of our colleagues that were admitted to a federal university ( Funaab to be precise).
The fact is that no one can categorically tell you the perquisite , except the institution you are transferring to.
But here are some things to consider
You are moving from a place which is less competitive ( private university) to a highly competitive university. So therefore the odds are small. This is because, most public university even overfill there quota during admission of students to 100 level, this therefore make it impossible to admit extra students.
Professional regulated courses especially the medical ones are the toughest. Here regular students are being weeded every session, so the department wouldn't want an extra baggage. Other courses regulated only by NUC are just easy cake. ( Your course of study really matters). Transfer from Gregory university Mbbs to UI Mbbs has a rare chance of occurring if not impossible but you will have high chance of transferring from Landmark university agriculture Department to Eksu agriculture Department.

It's hard not impossible, this is Nigeria in which anything can happen. But before you embark on this journey let me ask this question, which influencial staff do you know and really ready to russle it out for you??

To round it up, 3 things really matters, who you know( Buhari fit order Idowu olayinka Ui vc to admit you into any department), your course of study(e.g education courses are rarely filled up, they won't mind), and the institution you're going to.

All professions have both the successful and wretched.

We have some notable Nigerians that studied so called unprofessional courses and are making waves in the profession.
Ngozi iweala, soludo, sanusi and a few to mention are economists.
Adesina Akinwumi is an agric graduate.

You might argue that, they have connections or things are easy during there time.
Quick question, Will ngozi be minister for finance if she studied Yoruba?? Or Akinwumi be afdb president if he studied mbbs??

There is this popular first class economics graduate here by the name J.arus, who works in a big organization. Even though you're nt mate, he his still your contemporary.

Harness the reality of which profession you're studying and the sky will be your starting point.

You can empty your pocket by being involved in numerous projects.

I don't know about your earnings, but you can lay your hands on some things.
if you're a bit buoyant, get a loan or land on credit, or an investment( can be anything, but should take a cut on your earnings). You will be repaying every month or week. Doing this will make you broke always to the extend that feeding might be an issue.

And if you don't have the financial capability to be involved in hefty project, you can buy plasma Tv, fridge and other home accessories on credit ( there are many firms that can help out).

The main goal is that, get your self something meaningful to default on and get you on your toes.

Dont save, you can't because the urge to patronise will come and you won't meet up.
