Ex-Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola performed poorly in office, according to a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Olabode George. George said Fashola has not made any impact in his role as Minister of Power, Works and Housing. He told Punch: “Who asked him (Ambode) to do that? Now, people are putting him on the wire that whatever Fashola’s legacy is — I don’t know what legacy that one left behind anyway. “Okay, he did Surulere; where else? He was planting flowers. Where is the Bus Rapid Transit (by Fashola’s government) now? “Now, look at it from there: you are governor; what are you doing to impact? Something that will alleviate the poverty — or the ‘suffer, suffer’ like Fela would said — of the people.” Furthermore, he said: “Now, he (Fashola) can’t go back and start saying, ‘I want to go and correct this.’ It’s over. “And if you compare him with (Ambode) and I am not saying he (Ambode) is a saint or that he hasn’t made certain mistakes, but as a Lagosian, I can see (his performance) if you go from location A to location B.” https://newsdey.com/2018/10/fashola-only-planted-flowers-as-lagos-governor-bode-george/

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce (PDP-Bayelsa East) has urged Nigerians to support Peter Obi as the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because he possesses the three Cs of politics. In a post on his Twitter page on Saturday, the media mogul stated that the former Anambra deputy governor is a man with ‘Character, competence and Connections’ He noted that the three aforementioned qualities should determine the kind of vice president Obi will be. Bruce wrote: “It is time for Nigeria to bury identity politics. “Where you come from should not define where you end up. Character, competence and connections, are the 3 Cs that should matter in politics. “That Peter Obi comes from Anambra is not the issue. That he has the 3 Cs is the issue. ”https://newsdey.com/2018/10/peter-obi-three-cs-politics-murray-bruce/

Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has dismissed reports that South-East governors and leaders in the region are against his candidature. The former governor of Anambra State was reacting to alleged opposition to his emergence as a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Speaking during a visit to the site of last Friday’s pipeline fire that killed scores of residents of Umuimo and Umuadoro communities in Osisioma Ngwa LGA, he stated that he has spoken to leaders in the Senate including Ike Ekweremmadu, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Theodore Orji, Sam Egwu and others. Obi said: “For us, what is important is to rebuild the South-East, to rebuild Nigeria. What we need is to talk about how to create jobs, how to make Nigeria better for the citizens. “Let me thank Gov. Ikpeazu for what he is doing. Governance is about the people feeling you. It is about moving around, seeing it for yourself. “When we came this morning, he could have said “well, listen I am busy” and stayed back in his office but he came around with us. He has been to those places. “He has listened to the people and I assure you that whatever he said today he will do will be practicalized. It is not a question of wishing. So we are all working as a team. “You know in politics, we need to ask for more. That consultation will be asking for more. ”https://newsdey.com/2018/10/peter-obi-southeast-govs-working-him/

The federal government has said the farmers-herders clashes in Nigeria have no religious or ethnic colouration. This was the submission of the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, during a presentation at The Chatham House in London on Wednesday, October 17. Alhaji Mohammed said the clashes have become more persistent, because of a mixture of many factors, including population explosion, effects of climate change, keener contest for dwindling natural resources and sheer criminality. “Religion and ethnicity are not the reasons for these clashes,” he added. READ ALSO: Governor Lalong lied with Plateau killings – PDP governorship candidate alleges He blamed the escalation of the clashes on the dual challenge fake news and hate speech. “Pictures of gun-totting herdsmen from other lands are routinely used to depict the herdsmen in Nigeria. Age-long clashes between farmers and herders have suddenly been dressed in the garb of religion and ethnicity,” he lamented. He, however, informed his audience that the federal government has launched a national campaign against fake news and hate speech. His words: “The aim is to sensitize Nigerians to the dangers posed by fake news, how to spot fake news and what to do “We are under no illusion that the campaign can immediately stop fake news and hate speech. But we want to bring the issues to the front burner of national discourse. And I can say that we are succeeding in that respect. TRENDING NOW Okada riders bloody clash throws Lagos communityin disarray “Today, fake news has become a topical issue in Nigeria. To Nigerians, we say: If you can’t vouch for the veracity of any news item, don’t share it!” Meanwhile, political economist and management expert, Professor Patrick Utomi, on Monday, October 15,expressed concern that Nigerian politics if left unchecked would be in danger of being infiltrated by criminals. Professor Utomi made the comment in Abuja at the High Level Public-Private Sector Forum, with the theme: “Democracy that Delivers.” Professor Utomi said: “One of the most frustrating things about Nigeria today is that most of those in public offices don’t have the capacity for where they are. There is no talent profile to determine who should be where. Most of them don’t have the foggiest clue what it takes to provide the environment to make the country prosperous.” https://newsdey.com/2018/10/1198702-religion-ethnicity-responsible-farmers-herders-clashes-lai-mohammed-html/ |
