A Boeing 737-400 plane operated by Electra Airways, a small Bulgarian charter airline, made a successful emergency landing at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport on Monday after one of its tyres was blown out during takeoff in Cologne, Germany.

Staff at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport were put on highest alert as the plane with 152 on board prepared to land. More than 100 ambulances were scrambled to the scene and all other flights were canceled or diverted.

Prior to landing, the plane had been escorted into Israeli airspace by two F-16 fighter jets. The military pilots assessed the damage and reported one of the aircraft’s back left tyres had been blown out.

After circling in a holding pattern to shed fuel, the Boeing 737-400 plane touched down at 4.25 PM local time, using engine braking to keep pressure off the tyres.

No injuries were reported as passengers began disembarking on the tarmac.

Politics › Re: BREAKING: Labour Plans Nationwide Strike Over Minimum Wage by merits(m): 12:36pm On Jul 02, 2019
agwom:
The organised labour have alerted Nigerians that plans were underway to embark on industrial action if the current state of affairs on the issue of consequential adjustment arising from the new national Minimum wage of N30,000 per month remains the same. It is operating under the aegis of the Trade Union Side (TUS) of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC); the eight Unions in the Public Services of the Federal and 36 State Governments. In a press statement in Abuja on Monday, the TUS Acting Chairman, Mr Anchaver Simon, and the Secretary, Mr Alade Lawal, expressed disappointment by government’s effort to derail the implementation of a new National Minimum Wage.

“As things are right now, the government side is only prepared to pay peanuts to workers as adjustment under the pretext that it will soon be undertaking general salary review in the Public Service.” The committee on Consequential Adjustment of Salary agreed to set up a technical body to work out different scenarios in respect of salaries that would be paid to workers who are in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that draw their emoluments from the government treasury. The technical committee met severally and series of computations that were to be presented for the plenary for consideration were developed.

The labour leaders stated that the TUS had initially proposed that since the minimum wage was increased by 66.66 per cent; from N18,000.000 to N30,000.00, salaries for officers on Grade Levels 01-17 should be adjusted accordingly to maintain the relativity that exists in the salary structure in the Public Service. “But when the Government side argued that such increase across board would raise the total wage bill too high, the TUS side reviewed its demand downward and eventually settled for 30 per cent for officers on Grade Levels 07-14 and 25 per cent for those on Grade Levels 15-17. “The Government side on its part was insisting on 9.5 per cent salary raise for employees on Grade Levels 07-14 and 5 per cent for those on Grade Levels 15-17.

“The two sides then agreed to capture the two positions in the technical committee’s report which will now be presented for discussion at the plenary.” According to the TUS, it received a rude shock at the last meeting of the Technical Committee when the government side began to hold on to a non-existent position that the Technical Committee’s term of reference was to base its assignment in respect of salary adjustment on what was provided for it in the 2019 budget.

It regretted that the implication of Government’s position was that the Technical Committee cannot go beyond what the Government was pushing for which is 9.5 per cent salary increase for officers on GL 07-14 and 5 per cent for those on GL 15-17. “With this turn of event, it is quite clear now that some fifth columnists in this administration are hell bent on pushing President Muhammadu Buhari to enter into a collision course with millions of Nigerian workers in the Public Service. This is very sad,” the Union stated.

The TUS recalled that after the Ama Pepple committee recommended N30,000 monthly new National Minimum Wage, the Government Side went to the press to announce that the negotiation was inconclusive. “This is why the eight Trade Unions in the Public Service have resolved that enough is enough and that if the Federal Government fails to call its officials to order and direct them to negotiate openly the issue of Consequential Adjustment arising from the new National Minimum Wage, millions of workers at the Federal and 36 States Public Services will have no other alternative than to take some necessary Trade Union actions to seek redress.

“The time for President Buhari to act is now,” the Union emphasised. Meanwhile, a meeting of officials of the TUS of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council across the Federation is being arranged with the sole aim of setting the records straight. At the same time TUS is preparing for appropriate Trade Union measures to be deployed to get justice for public service employees. (NAN)

TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija: Meet The 2019 Big Brother Naija Housemates by merits(m): 10:40pm On Jun 30, 2019
Nazarethnaza:
The 2019 Big Brother Naija Reality show is already on, and we've gotten profiles of some of the housemates who have been unveiled on the reality show.

Here are profiles of the 2019 Big Brother Naija housemates below;

Avala

Single mom and budding singer Avala is not here to play. Being part of Big Brother Naija is part of pursuing her dreams and she also wants to inspire other young women.  The budding singer studied music and business at York College in Queens, New York. It’s no wonder then that her top artists include one of the city’s most famous exports, Mary J Blidge. Just like the Queen of Hip Hop, the Ogun State native has ambitions to spread her music all over the world.

Frodd

Who is Frodd? He is Fresh and Odd (Frodd). He accompanied his friend to the Big Brother Naija audition and today he finds himself a member of the Pepper Dem Gang. Get to know him here.

Ike

Ike confesses to being heartbroken when he came home to find another man ‘trapped in the closet’. He likes to play the role of the bad boy but he is a softie at heart who keeps it real.

Omashola

The weirdest lie the energetic Omashola has ever told is that he is a prince and his father is a Nigerian king to could earn him favour with the ladies. His latest heartbreak was when his girlfriend refused his marriage proposal.

Ella

If Ella’s life had a soundtrack, it would be ‘Ain’t nobody go time for that.’ The singer, television presenter, voice-over artist, actress and model describes falling in love with herself as one of the best decisions she’s ever made. Victoria “Ella” Nnabuchi is no stranger to the limelight. She was a runner up in a popular music talent search show and she’s a television presenter, voice-over artist, actress and model.  She also enjoys dancing, singing, reading, writing, travelling and poetry. The industry preaches that one should fake it until they make it. Not Ella,  she says it’s better to “faith it, until you make It.”

Khafi

Police officer Khafi Kareem believes that you can have it all if you believe in yourself. She is not only hoping to win the prize money but she wants the exposure that being in Big Brother Naija House brings so that she can do societal good. What people don’t know about her is that she is secretly talented in spoken word, singing and dancing. She is an Ekiti native who resides in London.

Isilomo

Lagos resident, Isilomo Braimoh is single and ready to mingle. An HR manager at 27, Isilomo has an MA in Human Resource Management with professional certification. She winds down from her hectic job by engaging in sports, outdoor activities, food, music and travel. A lover of all things music, her favourite songs are currently ‘Middle Child’ by J.Cole and ‘Daz How Star Do’ by Skiibii Dazz.

Jackye

Just like her spirit animal the lioness, Jackye is a fierce hunter who led her software engineering team to winning a contract to build a Fintech app for one of the biggest companies in Africa. The 23-year-old has only had one boyfriend her entire life and she relaxes by watching football, playing games and eating spaghetti, her favourite meal. Her life mantra is, “I never lose, either I win or I learn.”

KimOprah

Bubbly television presenter Kim-Oprah, believes that nothing is impossible to achieve. The African beauty achieved the impossible when she represented Nigeria at the Miss Intercontinental World Beauty Pageant. Kim-Oprah is not just a pretty face she owns a business and her favourite book is ‘Smart Money Woman’ by Arese Ugwu. There is nothing that would make her quit the Big Brother House because she is not a quitter.

franchasng:
The topic is; some reasons majority of single or married ladies ended up with the wrong guys as boyfriends and husbands

So its not about the single ladies alone but married ladies are also included because most married ladies you see today are not happily married, some are suffering and smiling, some are enduring because of their kids and because of what people will say, some are still married for the goodies they are getting from their supposed husband, but deep down their hearts, they are not happy; they wished they married someone better and I tell you, at one point in their life they met wonderful guy(s) who would have made them so proud and happy but some of the reasons I am about to share made them lose those great guys.

I am not writing this to abuse ladies but to help guide the younger ones who still have the opportunity to make amendment, remember, I have nothing to lose now because I am a guy, guyman and by the grace of God I am doing well for myself and will marry any day I make up my mind that its time, so I am not searching and I am not bashing, just correcting based on my little versed experiences with different class of ladies in the course of my little years on earth wink

So gather here and learn and also feel free to air your view.

I repeat, I have nothing to gain or lose from here, I am forever thankful to maker of life for being kind to me despite my shortcomings, so reserve your insults oh abeg before I lose my temper and break bottle on somebody's head angry
You that not even married yet,you claimed you have experienced about women, your experienced is a complete fallacy.abeg sit down joor, let happy married men like me gather here and advice upcoming ladies to be.
Islam › Re: Through Thick And Thin: The Lesson From Prophet Ayoob by merits(m): 6:08pm On Jun 28, 2019
Lukgaf:
The incident of Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam) is well known to one and all. Initially, Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam) was enjoying great prosperity. He had abundant animals and crops, many children and numerous homes. Allah Ta‘ala then decided to test Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam). Hence, he lost all his wealth and even his children. Allah Ta‘ala even tested Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam) with an illness that afflicted his entire body. The only two limbs of his body that were spared from this illness were his tongue and his heart. Nevertheless, even in this condition, he would keep his heart and tongue engaged in the remembrance of Allah Ta‘ala.

As for the respected wife of Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam), there are two views regarding her name. According to some ‘Ulama, her name was Layyaa, while other ‘Ulama have mentioned that her name was Rahmah.

While Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam) was patiently enduring this test, most of the people abandoned him, until he was left alone in a corner of the town. However, his loyal wife never left him or abandoned him. She remembered his favour upon her when conditions were favourable, and hence she remained at his side through thick and thin, ever loyal and faithful.

She would patiently tend to him and see to all his needs. In some narrations, it has even been mentioned that when her wealth was eventually depleted, she began to carry out domestic work in peoples’ homes in order to earn a living and see to her ailing husband’s needs. Together with this, she had lost her children and her husband was extremely sick. Through all these tests, she remained patient and did not complain, even though she went from a life of comfort and happiness to one of difficulty and sadness.

(Al-Bidaayah wan Nihaayah vol. 1 pg. 262)

Lessons:

1. The proverb “a friend in need is a friend indeed” is often quoted, highlighting the fact that a true friend is one who will remain with you in difficult times as well as good times. We can well imagine that if such loyalty is expected of a good friend, then what must be the high level of loyalty that is expected of a true spouse? After all, the relationship between the husband and wife far surpasses any friendship! Hence, a true, loyal wife is not one who will abscond to her father’s house when “the goings get tough”. Rather, she will patiently remain with her husband and assist him, to the best of her ability, as she would expect of him had she been in difficulty.

2. Undergoing tests is an unavoidable occurrence in life. We cannot choose the nature or time of our tests – but we can choose to pass the tests. To do so, we will have to hold firmly to sabr (patience) and remain pleased with the decision of Allah Ta‘ala.

I'm begining to suspect that people who strip criminals na.ked are perverts. Only a sex-starved and sexually depraved person would want to have the priviledge of free sex entertainment. Why strip them of their dignity? Why not hand them over to the Police as being done in civilized countries? Must we always display our backwardness to the whole world?

This inhumane act of stripping offenders bare is so archaic, uncivilized and uncalled for. Criminals have rights too. Afterall, they're still humans like us and they deserve a little bit of respect.
