Travel / Did Bad Weather Cause Diversion Of United Nigeria Airlines Flight To Asaba? by Merteenz(m): 11:01pm On Nov 27, 2023
On Sunday 26th of November, 2023 a United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN504 destined for Abuja landed in Asaba to the dismay of passengers.

Passengers on the flight said the cabin crew announced “Welcome to Abuja” as the plane landed in Asaba.

Salihu Yakasai, the Kano governorship candidate of Peoples’ Redemption Party in the 2023 election, who was in the aircraft said the plane departed the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport only for passengers to find themselves at the Asaba Airport.

He wrote, “We departed Lagos about an hour ago on Fly United to Abuja and upon arrival, the cabin crew confidently announced that we have arrived in Abuja only for us to realise that we landed in Asaba,”

According to him, the pilot announced that the “honest mistake” was caused by a mix-up in the flight plan given to him.

However, the airline refuted claims that the arrival was an honest mistake describing it as a diversion due to bad weather.

A statement issued by the spokesman for the airline, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, said the pilots of the aircraft temporarily diverted the flight to the Asaba airport due to “poor destination weather”.

The airline said the confusion was caused after the cabin crew erroneously announced that the aircraft has landed in Abuja.

To verify the claims that the flight was diverted, THE WHISTLER used planespotting platform, Flightradar24 to track the flight and similar flights around the departure and arrival time.

THE WHISTLER played back https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/un504#32f986b0 the flight path showing that the aircraft took off from the MMIA Airport, Lagos at 3:25pm Nigerian time and headed straight for the Asaba International Airport, Delta State.

[img][/img]
United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN504 Flight Path to Asaba (26/11/2023)

The flight which arrived Asaba at 4:07pm was not diverted from the Abuja path as claimed by the airline.

A previous trip https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/un504#32ed0e41 embarked on by the same United Nigeria Airline aircraft on 22nd November 2023 showed that the flight path to Lagos bore no similarity to that of Asaba.

[img][/img]

United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN504 Flight Path to Abuja (22/11/2023)

Furthermore, another flight, APK7130 https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/p47130 operated by Air Peace which took off from Lagos around the same time (3:21pm) as UN504 landed safely in Abuja at 4:25 pm and was not diverted.

Airpeace Flight APK7130 Safely Lands At Abuja As United Nigeria Airline Flight UN504 Lands In Asaba (26/11/2023)
Also, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja’s arrival log showed that several aircraft landed between 3pm – 5pm without issue, they include three Air Peace flights which arrived from Lagos (Flights APK7130, APK7226, 7124).

Other aircraft which landed at the Abuja airport at that time include a Hawker 800 jet (5N-KAL), an unregistered Embraer Legacy 650 jet, Air Peace Flight APK7155.

Similarly, Nigerian Airforce’s Dassault Falcon 7X jet (5N-FGU), Ibom Air Flight IAN553, Rano Air Flight RAN2008, Skyjet Flight UBS4270 and Air Peace Flight APK7212 took off from the Abuja airport around the time of the alleged diversion.

More checks revealed that the weather in Abuja was mostly cloudy around the United Nigeria Airline Flight time with windspeeds up to 7 mph.

According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (EUR Doc 013), an aircraft can land in cloudy weather, even when there is no visibility at all provided the airport is equipped with Instrument Landing System category IIIC (CAT IIIc)

The Abuja airport installed the Cat III ILS in August 2018 meaning the aircraft could have landed at the airport on the said date.

VERDICT
United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN504 made a direct flight to Asaba from Lagos, the flight was not diverted from the Abuja path. Also, the weather conditions were favourable for a safe landing in Abuja especially with the installation of CAT III ILS at the airport. Furthermore, 11 flights landed and took off from the Abuja airport during United Nigeria Airlines aircraft flight time.

Therefore, claims by the company that the flight was diverted due to bad weather is FALSE

Politics / Nigerians Call On NBC To Sanction NTA Over Broadcast Of Binani’s Speech by Merteenz(m): 5:01pm On Apr 18, 2023
Some Nigerians have called on the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC to sanction Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) over the broadcast of Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani’s ‘illegal’ acceptance speech as Adamawa state Governor.

This comes barely 72 hours after Binani was declared as Adamawa State governor in the just concluded governorship supplementary polls, on April 15.

Following her declaration by Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, Binani was seen reading an acceptance speech on Nigeria Television Authority, NTA.

It was reported that when the REC announced Binani as the poll winner, the results of the supplementary election from 10 LGAs were yet to be collated.

However, the dramatic Adamawa State governorship election generated reactions from Nigerians demanding the NBC sanction NTA for broadcasting

Meanwhile, Yunusa-Ari’s declaration has been nullified by INEC and issued the electoral umpire a 72-hour ultimatum to announce the results

Below are some of the reactions gathered;

Taking to Twitter, @drpenking said, “Suspending the Adamawa REC is not enough. He and Binani should be arrested. NTA should be sanctioned for airing that illicit acceptance speech. We can’t keep tolerating lawlessness.”

Also reacting Ikechukwu, @ikecoolblood said, “INEC has suspended Adamawa Elections and Binani is reading the acceptance speech on NTA. This is the desperation that Tinubu is teaching his disciples. She felt she has the INEC in her pocket. Act of shame”

Another tweep from Shehu Gazali Sadiq (@Shehusky) questioned if NBS has fined NTA.
“Has NBC fined NTA for broadcasting Binani’s acceptance speech? Imagine it was Peter Obi that committed this treason, just imagine what would have happened by now,” he said.

On his part, Chike of Lagos, @HikeSeal wrote, “Adamawa election has been declared null and void by Inec but Madam Binani dy read the acceptance speech on NTA. APC no be party for better people … we all want a female governor but not Binani’s type. The woman is as corrupt as the worst.”

Emma Nonso with the Twitter handle @EmmaEmerenini said, “Aisha Binani has given her acceptance speech, congratulating President Buhari and Mahmood Yakubu for making her the first female governor in Nigeria. NTA televised it live. What a shame!”

@Hyellah however said, “In a civilised society, both Binani, the Commissioner of Police, the DSS Boss in Adamawa, the Civil defense boss, and Hudu should be jailed. NTA too needs to be suspended.”

Science/Technology / Sanwo-olu Hails Nsia's Prize For Innovation Programme by Merteenz(m): 1:04pm On Dec 22, 2022
…Innovation Prize Will Fast-Track Technological Growth For Nigeria – NSIA MD, Aminu Umar-Sadiq

The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority on Saturday launched the maiden edition of its Prize for Innovation Programme, targeted at stimulating development in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital ecosystem.

The launch was held at an event in Lagos which was attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Managing Director of NSIA, Mr Aminu Umar -Sadiq; Chair of the NSIA Board Investment Committee, Mr. Ikemefuna Isiekwena; and members of the Executive Management Team, Mrs. Olubisi Makoju, and Mr. Kola Owodunni.

Other dignitaries that attended the launch are Ms. Odunayo Eweniyi of PiggyVest; Mr. Ralph Oluwole of Helium Health; Mrs. Amal Hassan of Outsource Global; Mr. Kola Aina of Ventures Platform.

The event also featured panellists such as Mrs. Abimbola Olufore of UNIDO; Mr. Obi Emetarom of Zone; Dr. Chibuzo Opara of Drugstoc; Mrs. Serah Makka Ugbabge of One.org; Mr. Abayomi Awobokun of Orbit54; Mrs. Temi Awogboro of New Lion Capital & Magic Innovators among other technopreneurs, and providers of capital.

The NSIA Prize for Invocation Programme is structured as a business enhancement programme to support early-stage, growth-driven ideas through education, mentorship, and financing.

The Programme is a strategy-based initiative of the NSIA Board which will run for at least three years.

Through the NPIP initiative, the NSIA is poised to identify, build, and channel the country’s latent potential in innovation and technology to catalyse economic growth, enhance the nation’s productive capacity, create jobs, and optimize resource sustainability.

In addition, the NPIP is designed to encourage and support creativity and ingenuity within the technology space and to fund new ideas that could result in cost-effective, scalable, and transformative positive impact.

The NPIP priority sectors are technology-enabled businesses in key seven priority sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The key sectors are Financial Services, Agriculture, Health, Education, Manufacturing, Renewables and Power.

Speaking at the event, the NSIA MD stated that the strategic intent of the Programme is to assist the Authority to establish direct access to the Nigerian technology sector.

He recalled that for centuries, prizes in various fields of human endeavour have served both as a reward and tool of encouragement for ideas that solve critical challenges for the human race.

In modern times, he said such Innovation Programme has helped to nurture novel ideas and ingenious innovation in science, technology, and many other fields.

He said the NPIP is the NSIA’s rationale for choosing to leverage innovation as a tool to stimulate developments in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital ecosystem.

He said, “Some may ask, ‘why an Innovation Prize?’ Our answer is simple. ‘Why not?’ We have over the past decade explored various strategies to deliver our vision which has seen us play an ever-increasing role in promoting investments for Nigeria’s economic development.

“We see the innovation prize as another vertical under our strategy. We have explored the route of sponsor, co-developer, and financial investor on a number of projects.

“The prize approach is a different but equally potent path. With this, we aim to serve as not just a catalyst for the fast-growing domestic technology and innovation industry but also as a deliberate enabler across the various tiers of the ecosystem.

“Our Board is convinced that this approach, will mobilize participants and capital, spread the burden of risk, set a problem-solving agenda, and serve as an effective accelerator for viable projects.”

Umar -Sadiq explained further that the Prize for Innovation programme is designed for national coverage, adding that the NSIA is committed to working assiduously as it has always done to deliver a programme that is inclusive, transparent and outcome-driven, covering the entirety of Nigeria’s digital hubs.

Through this, he told the gathering that the Authority would identify and elevate early-stage projects with transformative economic potential.

The NSIA MD said, “We will commence the programme by opening the innovation prize application portal in short order. Once opened, we expect to receive a flurry of high-quality entries reflective of Nigerian ingenuity.

“From these, eligible participants who qualify for the accelerator will gain access to knowledge and insights that will enable their ideas to scale.

“Beyond the selection of a winning entry, the programme is designed to inspire and challenge participating technopreneurs to build well-designed strategies that connect new ideas and concepts to the market.

“We see a future where Nigerian tech companies ascend to global relevance and dominance within the next decade. Nigerian film and music industry are already tracking in this direction. It is time for our technology and innovation sector to deliver a similar trajectory.

“So today, we welcome you all to the beginning of a distinct approach for stimulating change in the domestic digital ecosystem.

“As we launch the NSIA Prize for Innovation, we eagerly look forward to seeing entries from disruptors, creators, and trailblazers driving a new vision for innovation in Nigeria.”

In his remarks at the event, the Lagos Governor described the NSIA as representing the value of a catalytic system.

Sanwo-Olu who was represented by His Special Adviser on Technology, Mr. Tunbosun Alake hailed the NSIA for coming up with the initiative as it aligns with the global philosophy where innovation and technology are being used to change the global community.

He said, “I’m glad that the launch of the NSIA Prize for Innovation is an indicator of the NSIA’s subscription to this philosophy and its commitment to driving value creation through innovation.

“This philosophy is something we in Lagos State share with the NSIA. Not just because the governor signed into law the Lagos State Sovereign Wealth Fund, but it has to do with our realization that the Central call of the nation’s economic security is tied to innovation and scientific research.

“I congratulate the NSIA once again on the launch of this whole initiative. An initiative whose time has come and one that will move the innovation pendulum forward.

“However the need that we achieve this nation’s potential, we must do away with shallow implementations across the myriads of government institutions. We must collaborate. We invite you to collaborate with us as we build a Nigeria that we truly will be proud of.”

Also speaking, Isiekwena told the gathering that like all great ideas, the Innovation prize itself is not the end the Authority hopes to attain but a means to an end.

He said, “The outcome we seek is an ‘idea’ economy for Nigeria. In this age, success in any discerning economy is defined by the ability to turn ideas into value faster than competition.

“We’re hopeful that this programme will inspire ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness amongst our teeming youths which will result in ideas that become scalable businesses and in so doing, cause positive economic shifts in our country as we diversify away from traditional.”

Other dignitaries in the technology and innovation ecosystem that spoke at the event commended the NSIA Board and management for coming up with the Programme.

They said through this Programme, the Authority will be able to unlock the potential of innovators and attracts talents into the target sectors of the initiative.

Science/Technology / Monetise Your Innovation In Nigeria’s Technology Space With NSIA by Merteenz(m): 5:56pm On Dec 09, 2022
Breaking into the technology space as an innovator comes with many challenges. First, you must sell your ideas, then successfully prove it to carve a niche for yourself in its competitive industry.

The right platform, however, gives you the opportunity to bring to fruition these ideas, drive your innovation and optimise your success in the technological industry.

This is why The Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) on the 10th of December will launch the maiden edition of its Prize for Innovation Programme (NPI), to encourage and support creativity and ingenuity in the technology space.

The NPI programme which is to be launched at an event in Lagos is structured as a business enhancement programme to support early-stage, growth-driven ideas through education, mentorship, and financing.

The event will be attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as special guest of honour alongside other notable and respected digital ecosystem pundits as guest speakers and panelists.

They include Co-Founder and COO, Piggy Vest, Odunayo Eweniyi; Co-Founder, Helium Health, Ralph Oluwole; Head, Investment and Technology Promotion Office, (UNIDO) Abimbola Wycliffe, MD/CEO, Outsource Global, Amal Hassan and Founding Partner, Ventures Platform, Kola Aina.

Other guest speakers include MD/CEO, Appzone Group, Obi Emetarom; MD/CEO, Drugstoc, Chibuzo Opara, Executive Director, One.org, Serah Makka-Ugbabge; Co- Founder/ Partner - Orbit54, Abayomi Awobokun and the Co-Founder/Partner, New Lion Capital / Magic Fund, Temi Awogboro, and many more.

The Board and Management of the Authority will share their strategy for the technology sector in Nigeria and also provide context to the vision behind the NSIA Prize for Innovation.

Key speakers from the NSIA team will include NSIA Non-Executive Director, Ikemefuna Isiekwena, NSIA Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Aminu Umar-Sadiq; NSIA Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer, Kola Owodunni and NSIA Executive Director, Operations and Corporate Service, Olubisi Makoju.

The NSIA Price for Innovation Programme is a strategy-based initiative, designed to run for at least three years to fund new ideas; propel a cost-effective, scalable, and transformative positive impact on the nation’s economic growth.

The programme will identify, build, channel the country’s latent potential in innovation and technology, enhance the nation’s productive capacity, create jobs and optimize resource sustainability.

The NPI’s priority sectors are technology-enabled businesses in key seven priority sectors of the Nigerian economy namely: Financial Services, Agriculture, Health, Education, Manufacturing, Renewables and Power. The priority sectors were selected given the appreciable impact innovations in these sectors can have on the Nigerian economy.

With this Programme, the NSIA Board expects to catalyze the growth and development of the Nigerian technology ecosystem by identifying budding Nigerian innovators, enhancing their capabilities, and providing a platform to showcase and scale these technological solutions globally over multiple cycles of the programme.

The strategic intent of the Programme will also assist the Authority to establish direct access to the Nigerian technology sector, through the creation of a strong pipeline for future investments by its Innovation Fund.

In essence, the Programme will provide a platform to understand industry modalities and gain first-hand knowledge of rising stars within the technology ecosystem.

Hence, the Programme will adopt a three-staged competition, where ten finalists will emerge and win various prizes.

The NPI is expected to run for sixteen (16) weeks covering the three stages namely the pre-selection stage, the accelerator stage, and the demo day stage.

It starts with applications from eligible candidates who meet the entrance criteria.

In total, 25 innovators (one product/service for each) will be shortlisted and advanced into the competition. These innovators will scale through a bootcamp known as the accelerator phase.

Of the 25, the top 10 innovators will be selected by a 5-man expert evaluation committee to partake in a pitch-session on demo day from which a winner will emerge.

The equity portion of the prize will be disbursed and monitored by one or more of the Authority’s venture capital partners over the specified period.

The disbursement period will be restricted to a maximum of six months post-competition.

Nairaland / General / PHOTOS: ‘obidient’ Rallies Eclipse Nigeria’s Independence Day Celebrations by Merteenz(m): 6:56pm On Oct 01, 2022
Supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday, trooped out in their numbers in various parts of the country and the United Kingdom for their ‘Obidient’ rally, eclipsing Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day celebrations.

Across London and several cities in Nigeria, Obidients, as supporters of Obi call themselves, ignored Nigeria’s flag for the LP-themed flags and outfits chanting Obi’s name in delight.

In Lagos, Obi’s supporters converged at Festac Town, Surulere, Ikeja and Lekki and marched through the major streets of the city.

They also defied the threats of the Lagos State Police Command by marching through the Lekki toll gate in spite of police directive against rallies at the toll gate.

The rally which caused heavy gridlock in the affected locations was largely peaceful as participants coordinated themselves in an orderly manner.

In Asaba, Delta state, Obi’s supporters marched from the Inter-bus roundabout along Nnbisi Road shutting down commercial activities in the city and leaving only a handful of residents to attend Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s independence day address. A similar scene was witnessed in Warri as Obi’s supporters marched from Effurum roundabout to the Warri City stadium.

Calabar’s rally turned into some sort of carnival, as supporters of the LP candidate marched through the city adorned with colourful native attires and dancing to traditional music and drums.

In Bauchi, Northwest Nigeria, supporters of the LP candidate embarked on a 10-kilometre march from the Wunti roundabouts through the main Ahmadu Bello Way through Yelwa and ended at Rafin Zurfi, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.

Similarly, Obi’s supporters ignored Labour Party’s directive to suspend the rally, matching through major streets of the city clad in branded T-Shirts, face caps, and mufflers.

About 4,000 miles away, Obi’s supporters gathered at Trafalgar Square, Central London waving Nigeria and Labour Party flags.

With Obi solidarity rallies held in no fewer than 25 locations across Nigeria, Obi’s supporters made a statement that the movement is beyond social media chatter.

Obi’s supporters believe that with their support, he will squarely match the candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, despite contesting on the platform of the relatively unpopular Labour Party.

Education / 112 Students Withdraw From FUT Minna Due To Financial Struggles – Dep VC by Merteenz(m): 1:10pm On Nov 30, 2021
…Institution Launches Benevolence Fund To Support Poor Students

Amid the deteriorating state of Nigeria’s economy, a total of 112 students have voluntarily withdrawn from the Federal University of Technology, Minna on financial grounds in 2021 alone, the institution’s management has said.

The University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor and chairman, Students Support Committee, Professor Emeka Udensi, disclosed this on Monday during the launch of a students’ benevolence fund as part of efforts to cushion the worsening economic situation of students from low income families.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abdullahi Bala, who formally launched the fund during the 2nd and 3rd Annual Institutional Performance Review Retreat of the university at its main campus in Gidan Kwano, said the provision of the fund became necessary to ameliorate the plight of students whose "lofty aspirations are threatened daily by their financial constraints.

"Let it not be said that the future of a promising student is killed while we all could do something little and little together to help," he said.

"We have seen a very worrying trend of a large number of students having to defer their sessions, having to drop out as a result of financial difficulties,

"And we feel that as parents we also have to stand up and be counted in making sure that dreams, aspirations and potentials of our youths are not killed as a result of financial difficulties," he added.

"We believe that as a university, whatever we can do to stop this kind of withdrawal we should be able to do it, and that's why we are creating the benevolence fund,” said Bala.

Reacting, the president of the institution's student union, Shuaib Isiaka Yahaya, described the initiative as unprecedented while appreciating the management for prioritizing the welfare of students.

He assured of the continued support of the students' union in the policy direction of the university.

Politics / I Am A Senator For Life – Akpabio Declares by Merteenz(m): 11:45am On Sep 16, 2020
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has stated that, as a former Minority Leader of the Senate and former senator representing Akwa-Ibom North-West constituency, he believes he is a senator for life.

Akpabio made the statement while responding to questions from newsmen when he visited the National Assembly for what could be described as a ‘fence-mending’ move amid the ongoing probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the lawmakers.

He had – in the heat of the probe – accused senators and House Representatives members of being the biggest beneficiaries of NDDC contracts, he also reportedly sent a list of the said beneficiaries to the National Assembly.

The minister was asked if he submitted more names of the NDDC contractors or clarified the earlier list he sent to the House when he met the acting clerk of the National Assembly, Amos Olatunde-Ojo.

In his response, Akpabio said: “No no no, you are wrong. That was not what the Speaker demanded. The Speaker wanted to know whether there was undue influence from any section of the National Assembly in respect of contracts in the NDDC.

”He did not say whether they were contractors so I’m hearing it from you.”

The minister explained that his visit was in furtherance of President Muhammadu Buhari’s call for a cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislature and to congratulate Olatunde-Ojo on his ‘elevation’.

He said: “I am here(National Assembly) to congratulate the acting CNA for his elevation and of course to solicit the continuous cooperation of the National Assembly towards the development of the Niger Delta region

”In any case, I am a senator, so seeing me in the National Assembly should not be a surprise; as a former Minority Leader of the Senate and a senator, I believe I am a senator for life.

”Nobody will refer to me as Governor Akpabio, they will always refer to me as Senator Akpabio so this is homecoming for me. The National Assembly is supposed to resume today(yesterday) but it had been postponed. I had intended that as soon as the resumption takes place, I will be here as part of my effort to support the President’s decision that there must be a much more cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislature.

”So far, I believe that whatever disagreement that could have occurred between my own ministry and the National Assembly must have been as a result of mischief and that mischief must be put to rest so that we can work in one accord for the sake of the nation.

”It is important as a minister to make efforts to work towards ensuring that cooperation come on board for the benefit of the region.

”The National Assembly is one, we must ensure that there is harmony between the Legislature and the Executive. Today, we have a better National Assembly in terms of Legislative-Executive harmony and cordiality.”

If I talk my mind now they will say I am a hater.

1. The writer said pyrolysis of plastics will provide an alternative source of fuel. This is very contradictory since plastics and the conventional diesel/gasoline share the same source.

2. Pyrolysis of plastic is not an invention. It has been in existence and well documented in literature.

3. Like many pyrolytic processes, what would be produced is fuel oil and likely not diesel/gasoline. Fuel oil would still need to undergo blending, catalytic cracking and/or reforming to meet diesel or gasoline specification.

4. I wonder how the guy handled the olefinic gases and carcinogenic aromatics that will likely be produced.

5. There will be coke deposits. How will he remove them? How did he even size the reactor?

5. Is the process sustainable and economic? The problem with things like this is the high cost of pre-treating the plastics, downstream processing, octane/centane improvement and treatment of emissions like Noxs.

6. A distinction between the type of plastics used should be made. Were thermosets or thermoplasts used?

- It is embarrassing that the supervisor in his school adopted this project. It is only a reflection of the backwardness and decadence of our educational institutions. The only impressive engineering project I have seen so far is the guy that made a small flying aeroplane.

- It is not the guy's fault though. He is only as good as his lectures.

- No sane governement will adopt this. Trust me when I say this.
Fellow reactor, you saved me an epistle, the sytem is not viable. I'm currently working on something similar the difference is that it uses biomass and produces Syngas. I've filed a patent form for it but the issue of sustainability is a constant headache.

It is no longer news that after 59 years of independence, Nigeria has carved a niche for herself in the comity of nations as one whose remarkable feats in areas of corruption, poverty, mismanagement of resources, political instability, insecurity and banditry stands out

Brutalities and fatalities remain a recurring feature on the nation’s political scene with several unresolved crimes littering the landscape.

With a Human Development Index of 0.5 Nigeria prides herself as one of the most unlivable countries in the world, a feat it achieved courtesy of its government doggedness in maintaining the high rate of banditry, kidnapping and other vices hoisting the Nation’s flag in the misery index.

Nigeria’s strides in the aspect of corruption is also worthy of emphasis, the giant of Africa is a giant indeed as one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

In Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Nigeria proudly occupies the 144th position among 180 evaluated countries.
Another feather was added to Nigeria’s cap when she overtook India as the poverty capital of the world in the World Data Lab’s Global Poverty Ranking.

Global poverty projections released by The Brookings Institution in 2018, based on data from the World Poverty Clock, showed that Nigeria is now home to the largest population of people living in extreme poverty, with 87 million citizens living on less than $2 a day

This is a position it seeks to retain till the year 2030 as Nigeria will be home to no fewer than 110 million people living in extreme poverty if she is able to sustain the current trajectory

In 2016, when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) era started, Nigeria accounted for just over 60 percent of global poverty. Today, it is over 70 percent. By 2030, it could be close to 90 percent. Isn’t it an honour that Nigeria remains at the frontier of leading the world to extreme poverty by 2030?

Based on the aforementioned, the signs of Nigeria’s leadership successes are now even more glaring as nearly one hundred million Nigerians are in danger of falling into extreme poverty by 2022. This startling revelation implies that despite being the largest oil producer in Africa, Nigeria is unable to translate its oil wealth into rising living standards for its growing population.

The recent cases of xenophobic attack in South Africa and Nigeria’s commendable discreet responses are pointers to the fact that the country is highly revered in the international community, needless to mention the respect accorded her passport in embassies and high commissions across the world.

In education, Nigeria has become the perfect example for other countries of the world to emulate for qualitative dissemination of knowledge, suffice is it to say, that graduates of Nigeria’s institution are leading their contemporaries in innovations, inventions and discovery, Nigeria’s robust network of cyber-criminals gives credence to this claim.

Nigeria deserves some accolades for a nation with a life expectancy of less than 55 years to have survived 59 years of peaceful turbulence, this would not have been possible but for the dexterity of her political gladiators, worthy of mention is the military junta whose incursion made a remarkable positive impact on Nigeria’s economic fortunes.

The citizen’s contribution to national under-development is also noteworthy. Nigerians are reputable for their high level of tax compliance, patriotism and civil obedience. Although Nigeria’s national anthem and pledge have become a sort of ceremonial poetry, it is obvious that Nigeria is poised for greatness.

While one is tempted to conclude that better days are now behind, the possibility of rapid positive change cannot be denied. With the right orientation and attitude, the Nigeria of everyone’s desire is possible. However, to achieve this, a sense of nationalism and patriotism needs to be birthed.

Nigeria needs to rejig her current system of governance and assess the workability of her constitution. There is need for national re-orientation to restore citizen’s trust in the conundrum called ‘Nigeria’.

A renewed industrialization drive is also necessary to cater for the teeming unemployed youths the country currently boasts of as well as to put Nigeria on the global roadmap for development.

Finally, Nigeria cannot afford to keep celebrating the production of pencils and toothpicks in a world of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.

Why do people jump into conclusion after reading one sided story. Where is the evidence of having affairs with the wife. According to the story the wife was not seen near there. My judgement : Dirty politics
God bless you. Seems like a set up to me

Please, I want to know if the final results will be a cumulative grading of both tests or test 1 will be just a qualifier. I remember there was an issue regarding this last year. cc Odunharry richiez

Lemme just quote a portion of Nwaeze's Corruption in Nigeria exposed.

A leader is a politician who puts his/herself at the service of his people, while a politician is leader who puts his people at his service

Had a similar issue, tried accessing my mail this morning and I was told that my password was changed about 23 hours ago.
Although I have changed it. The mods needs to look into this in subsequent editions, I mentioned earlier the possibility of anyone with 2 accounts to manipulate the integrity of the test.
Anyway, thumbs up to the mods for this breathtaking task

Thanks for reducing the cut-off mark, at least we have a better chance of making things right. I wrote test 1 sitting on a fence, never expected maths questions, but had to do the guess work since I couldn't leave to get writing materials and a calculator. The mods should also look at the possibility of someone using 2 accounts to cheat on stage 1.
Just saying sha o
