TWoods:Not just Nigerian illegals in the US but also Nigerian families flying to New York and crossing over to Canada. One of the reports I read then, specifically mentioned that about 70% of the people had newly issued visas which was one of the reasons the Canadian Immigration Minister had to visit in May of 2018 |
I had my baby in the US in 2013. I posted my journey some years ago. Not sure. I believe this discount thing is not peculiar to VOs in Nigeria. I live in Vancouver and when I went to renew my visa in 2016. The VO pointed out the discount as well and asked why I was given such a huge discount. I simply answered I didn't know why but paid what I was asked to pay. She also saw the zero balance letter. She immediately switched to why US and not Canada as Canada has better healthcare. I said I wasn't living in Canada then. I think this whole thing is as a result of the current immigration policy(publicly known and unknown) in the US and the number of Nigerians crossing over to Canada seeking asylum. The truth is that Nigeria has been flagged(my opinion). These embassy have their internal policies that are not made public. They can use anything as a reason to deny a visa and will not always voice out the main reason they are denying it.(My opinion) The guy that posted about his already approved US visa denied after a rejection from Canada, its correlated. A family friend and his family had valid US visas and have been to the US on a yearly basis for God knows what. The family applied for a Canadian visa some months ago. They had to withdraw it when they felt it was taking time and already made travel plans to the US.. A week after the withdrawal, they were asked to come to the embassy. The US visas were revoked. It was shocking. They were asked why they withdrew their Canadian visa application. They share information.(FACT) |
Hi All, Am new on this section of the thread but not new on Nairaland. Been on the Canada student and visitor visa thread for a while. I have worked for one year in Canada as at January 30th and am ready to put in for my PR through CEC. I am reading through page 1 to catch up. Will be asking questions in the near future. I had my Ielts test last Saturday and have my WES evaluation completed already. Giving back to the house- I can help 1 to 2 people every month that wants to send a copy of their Certificate to WES at NO COST. I just spoke with a friends cousin that paid 14,000naira to DHL . People living here can also help out. It cost me $1.80 to send from Vancouver which is nothing. I will choose who to help at my discretion. If I don't respond to you, please know I have chosen someone. |
Ijesco:Once the fathers name is not on the birth certificate, you don't need a consent letter from the father to get a passport because nobody was named as her father on her birth certificate. Likewise if you have full custody of your child, you don't need consent from him. Got my daughters Nigerian passport without the fathers consent cos I have full custody of her. |
jnyuwa02:Seriously, it is. Mine was something else. The bus comes every 1 hour unlike Vancouver where it comes every 5 minutes. the truth is that you have no distraction and just focus on school. Those of us that didn't go out of the town to look for fun aced our courses. |
oseodile:If you do online application then you don't need to submit your passport and you can submit your passport in the UK if your visa is approved. |
Meggito:Send an email to Accra and ask if you can submit your passport in the US. Attach your US visa, exit and entry stamp to the email. I did that for my mum and they replied that I could. She printed and attached the email from them, her passport and the request for passport letter and submitted in the UK. You will pay some fee in the US office cos you didn't do your bio-metrics there. |
Devaughn:You don't need to come back. You can submit there. Get an email from Accra authorizing you to submit in the UK and attach it to your passport. |
jnyuwa02:Please advise her and us as well on a university or college that will give her admissions into a masters program with low HND. It will be very helpful. |
OmoBendel24:Advise him to say that he has been refused before and state the reasons. That's the best you can do. |
Jawa:I guess we all give advise based on cases that we are familiar with. I know friends that had the same issue and were not sent a letter of explanation and got their visas. I believe that every other thing being equal, a visa officer will not refuse him just because of this. |
Hello to all the gurus in da house. You really have nothing to worry about. So far you said yes and gave reasons. I know people that don't remember the reasons. They ticked and wrote they couldn't remember. They still got their visas. SO far you didn't say NO. That would have been bad. |
You don't need to do anything. Just relax and wait for their response. You have a current US Visa already. The decision lies on the VO Officer. Your daughter for sure should get hers but then for you, they will look at your family ties back home, proof of funds, sufficient travel reason (i.e why are you following your daughter all the way to Canada just to help her start school) but like I said it depends on the Visa officer. Wishing you best of luck. What she did is referred to as misrepresentation by CIC. its not something to relax on. People get banned for 5 years for this. I suggest she sends an email to CIC and inform them before they do. Its either she waits till she gets a letter from them asking her to explain within a given time frame as people with similar situation got or she can send an email and know if she can tackle it before they do. A nice VO might be handling her file and might decide not to push further if her reasons are convincing. |
So @Mr Smith has been forming busy(though I understand, the school system here is crazy). He has not told the house how he came and ate well cooked rice and stew the day he got into Vancouver. Even last Sunday I invited him to come and eat lasagna and coconut jellof rice. Its amazing how nairaland connects you to people. I couldn't pick him up from the airport cos I don't have a car yet. Will get a car next year and will be willing to pick up people as they come. For now, I can offer well cooked naija food of your choice when you arrive in Vancouver. Just PM me. Good luck to all TRV hopefuls. |
Oluwatisegun:Your age should not be a problem. |
Oluwatisegun:If $1000 is exclusive of hotel reservation, I think its ok. You said interview, do you mean US? This is Canada thread. |
Hello, Please i need an urgent response to the question below or your take on what i have been thinking of. I applied for my Canada visa 10th August to accompanying my daughter to her University in Canada for her MBA degree.shes an adult 20years of age but i want to help her settle down.she applied for her permit visa same time with me so we are both awaiting a response from CIC.I booked an hotel reservation along side(An hotel close to the school at British Columbia) I have a good travel history (SA,UK,SPAIN,US). However i didn't disclose i was once denied a US visa because i have a current US Visa to expire 2018 so i felt since i still have a current visa there was no need to disclose. i have submitted my application Via online route and i just got to know about this trend please is there a way i can update the Canadaian embassy stating that i was refused before but still have a current US Visa using the email: accra.immigration@international.gc.ca or i should hold on and say nothing. And for my daughter does my USA refusal affects her because when she was 13 years old i applied for a USA Visa and was rejected; she was included in my application then. But since she was a8 years she has been applying for herself and has been issued a USA visa. Please does it affect her so she will disclose it? I will appreciate any contribution what soever. Please let me know your view.[/quot Lets pray your file hasn't been looked into. I will advise you email CIC ASAP with a letter stating that you forgot to mention that you were denied a US visa. Your daughter should do same. You can receive a 5 year ban for this. So send an email ASAP. There was a similar case on the student thread. The boy received a letter of misrepresentation because he didn't state he had been refused a visa to the US. He was under 18 at that time and was included in his parents application. He was later on refused but don't know the reason. |
Good day, I just got SA visiting Visa 31th of Aug and it'll expire 29th of Nov and that was my first Visa, no travel history and I want to apply for Canada visiting visa, planning to submit the application upper Monday with N1.5m in acct. Please what hope do I have in canada visa. Advice me please [/quote} Do you have a job? What's your financial status at the moment and what home ties do you have? Having an SA visa would not improve your chances of getting a Canadian visa especially when you have not used it. Mind you, people get visa on a virgin passport. 1.5m is a bit small if that is your entire savings. VO will also wonder why you would want to spend your entire savings on a trip. I think you should list the documents you want to submit and tell us a little more about your situation before we can answer. |
Dandeedadrunk:I will advise you don't apply from the US. Most people have been denied based on" immigration status in country of residence". You are not a legal resident if you are on a visitors visa. |
Martomoh:Its really not necessary paying 5% of the fare(although its not possible to). You are advised by CIC not to make any financial commitment before getting your visa. I usually use air France, klm or Ethiopia. They all allow you to make a reservation and pay in their offices. Usually give 48hours. It doesn't really matter if it expires. CIC just want to see your itinerary. |
DebsMed:I travelled with knorr both to the US and Canada and I didn't have any problem. I ground my egusi, ogbono, crayfish, ogili and all. I think it all depends on who is inspecting you. My cousin had her crayfish seized because she ground it and my friend had her seized because she didn't grind it. Just do what you want. It differs. |
Long post alert........... Have been on naira land student and visitor thread. Just found this thread and am loving it. A bit slow at work today. I just decided to share my experience here. A bit old (2013) but can still help or encourage someone especially the single ones. That’s my story. Life has been wonderful. God has been good. |
Isn't it going to be returned unprocessed if i eventually do? Please advise.[/qu It depends, I know someone people that got approval or denial when they asked to withdraw. IF your review of eligibility had already started, they might process it if everything is ok and issue your visa. In some cases they return your passport and tell you to reapply whenever you are ready. |
Louis329:I think your application has been refused and he is trying to reapply for you cos obviously your bank statement is more than 3 months and you would need to do another bio-metrics if you are reapplying. Its better you get your documents from him and a copy of the forms he submitted. You can work on a 2nd application with the help of the people here. Get your documents so you can apply for your gmcs notes. |
Berylstanz:Please declare it. My friends name was keyed into the system( she didn't have money to pay the fine) because she didn't declare and she didn't know her friends mum put kilishi in the things she gave her for the daughter. |
aronkyshire:Never heard of this. |
######################################## Pls @mesh2003.would like to send you a pm if its okay with you. [/qu Have not seen your PM |
Igeoluwatobi:You cant work with your visitors visa. I am not an immigration officer. However I did some research and found out the following information. You should apply for a study permit before coming to Canada. If you are visiting Canada and you want to apply for a student visa, you must apply for a study permit online or at a Canadian visa office abroad( your home country). http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=484&top=15 |
aronkyshire:There is no circumstance that allows you to work temporarily or permanently under a visitors visa. Its a violation of the visas rule. You can only take a short course that is less than 6 months with a visitors visa. |
Next01:It wont have any effect on your application. |
Long post alert…… PGD is for folks like me who wish to further their education but have a low GPA and can’t get into a Master’s program immediately but can eventually do after the completion of the PGD or people that are changing career. If you have a Master’s program in mind, please go for a PGD related to it. It will help later. After completing my PGD, the schools I contacted for MBA all waive some courses so far you make 75% and above. This shortens the program duration for you and saves you some money. I got my TRV in October 2014. Although I know that things have changed but am writing this for those going for PGD. I am an advocate of PGD especially if you want a career change or have a low GPA. I couldn’t get into an MBA program because of my GPA. I also had a constraint of time and didn’t want to waste time looking for schools that would take me. I was given an option of a PGD in business Administration (Global business management) which is in line with my proposed dream program; MBA with a specialization in management. I can’t remember the timeline of my application. Documents submitted. All CIC forms Sponsor (dad)- Dads Bank statement, fixed deposit statement. Shares certificates, pension statement, Dads confirmation of employment and introduction letter from the 3 universities he lectures in (visiting retired professor), affidavit of support saying that he would bear all expenses for my program and my other siblings were no longer dependent on him. My docs Conditional admission letter from school (I had a C in math and the school needed me to write a math test upon arrival before enrolling into the program) School fees receipt, (Paid full tuition of $27,000) Passport page with valid and expired visas to UK, US, Germany, France, Netherland, India etc. Letter of Introduction from employer saying that they were aware on my intended study (didn’t say anything on me having my position when I get back) and detailing my specific role and responsibilities in the company. Letter of employment (I was working as a Business Development manager for 3 years as of the time I was applying) 6 months’ pay stub Pictures of Business trips, meeting and trade show attended in Dubai and Paris Transcript, WAEC and NECO Project management training certificates (PMP) Primavera training certificates Proof of daycare enrollment for my 8 months old daughter (to show that she will be in school when I travel) Well detailed Resume 1 page SOP saying why I was going for the program. I mentioned how it will progress my career but I didn’t mention anything on coming back to Nigeria Funny enough I wrote on how my daughter would be visiting during my school holidays.Home Tie Submitted parents passport page and all my siblings birth certificates Daughter’s Birth certificate, A lot of fasting and prayers and novenas. I have a BSc in Pure and Industrial chemistry. Since I graduated in 2006, I worked for an NGO for a year and then went into the business world. Working as a business development manager, I attended trainings, meetings, trade shows which were all business related. This and my job responsibilities were what I used while writing my SOP to try and convince the VO the reason for my career change. The VO that handled my application would have noticed that I had never done anything chemistry or science related based on my resume. It was easy to deduce that I was already in a business career field. I specifically wrote on my SOP that I had the practical knowledge of business and needed to get the theoretical knowledge of it; hence my interest in going for a PGD in business administration (global business management) since I couldn’t get into an MBA cos of a low GPA. My advice to people going for a PGD is that you try to show some relation to your current job or your first degree if it’s still within a 2 year period. If its related to your first degree, then please let the VO know of the attempts you have made to get into a master’s program and couldn’t because of your low GPA. (If you have proof of emails, please attach it). The VOs know that Canadian universities are very competitive especially for folks with low GPA). If it’s related to your current job, please try and attach certificates, trainings, introduction letter from HR detailing your job responsibilities. Anything to show that your proposed study is related to your current job. You just can’t change career out of the blues. You must have tried something before developing interest in it. Good luck to everyone waiting for his or her visa. It will end in praise. |
Funny enough I wrote on how my daughter would be visiting during my school holidays.
