Reuters July 12, 2016 LAGOS (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp said on Tuesday no attacks had taken place at its facilities after Nigerian militant group Niger Delta Avengers said it had blown up the Qua Iboe 48" crude oil export pipeline operated by the company. "There were no attacks on our facilities," said Exxon Mobil spokesman Todd Spitler. Late on Monday Nigerian militant group Niger Delta Avengers said on its website that it had blown up an Exxon Mobil Corp facility. The group has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks in Nigeria's southern oil hub. The militants, whose attacks briefly pushed Nigeria's crude production to 30-year lows in spring, have said they want a greater share of the OPEC member's energy wealth to go to the impoverished southern Niger Delta, the source of most of the country's oil. Qua Iboe is Nigeria's largest crude oil stream and exports usually amount to more than 300,000 barrels per day. Nigeria is typically Africa's biggest oil producer, although attacks in the last few months have pushed it behind Angola. The West African country relies on crude oil sales for around 70 percent of government revenues. (This version of the story was refiled to correct company name in headline to Mobil instead of Mobile) (Reporting by Bhanu Pratap in Bengaluru and Alexis Akwagyiram in Lagos; Editing by Richard Chang, Toni Reinhold) https://www.yahoo.com/news/exxon-mobile-says-no-attacks-facilities-despite-nigerian-001352774--finance.html?nhp=1 If true, Niger delta avengers will slowly lose their integrity or possibly infiltrated. |
Fake news. Didn't happen. Exxon denied it https://www.yahoo.com/news/exxon-mobile-says-no-attacks-facilities-despite-nigerian-001352774--finance.html?nhp=1 |
A lot of lessons can be picked from Joe Igbokwe. However, he's lost touch with his people. Nobody is grieving Jonathan. We are grieving subjugation. Incessant killings by fulani herdsmen without pragmatic action from the presidency. Poor economic situation that has enveloped the nation Lopsided appointments. I think Nigeria should let Igbos go if they are tired of them. They can have all the oil in South South. |
Pissful religion , trustworthy region continue their exploit |
Renegotiate Nigeria, that's not too hard to ask. |
Rabid bat. It might have rabies, hence flying in the day. Any person bitten should see a doctor ASAP for anti rabies vaccine. Hmmn, the nose. Looks familiar, hope it's not |
Very disheartening. Sometimes I find it very hard to differentiate between Boko haram, ISIS, and these "normal" Muslims that keep maiming Christians. My Muslim brothers, please answer me, how do I differentiate you from Boko haram when you kill my sisters and brothers daily at little or no provocation And some will say Islam is a religion of peace. How?? It's mind boggling to associate Islam with peace. Practically, based on what I see everyday, Islam is synonymous with Intolerance, Repression, Violence, Death, Terrorism, Evil, Devil. There is no peace in Islam. |
There's a thin line between radical Islam and normal Muslims. The so called normal Muslims turn militants in the face of slightest religious provocation. I dare say 99% of all Muslims (of northern extraction) are either overtly or suppressed terrorists. Wonder why yoruba Muslims are different. Is there something to be learnt from them? |
Middle belt is fragmented. That's why they are slaughtered daily. Igbos are still grieving Enugu massacre. Any attack in one Igbo state is attack in all Igbo States. Core North has left benue to their peril |
Wisdomkosi:Thanks bro. We will get there by God's grace, don't lose hope. |
Good move |
Wisdomkosi, sorry to hear about this. It's quite unfortunate. I'm South East and don't see ebonyi as worthless. I know most hawkers even here in ph are from that axis. Ebonyi is blessed with vast agricultural land, especially for rice. You're also blessed with granite extrusions, limestone etc. You also have some nice River triangulation of your state good for Inland seaport through cross river. When I see ebonyi, I see a serene land of opportunities free from oil madness. Ndibe beach, Uwana beach, historical landscapes for tourism. Our people die because of lack of vision. I have plans unfortunately no funds. I wish I could create agricultural parks in places like ebonyi and Enugu hinterland. It's unfortunate |
Saudi military are one of the most lazy in the world, very afraid of Iran. They couldn't venture into Syria, instead sent mercenaries. |
Where are they getting funds for this fruitless exercise? Hope it's not what l'm thinking? No foreign investor will explore Nigeria side of Chad basin with clear eyes |
Not surprised. Buhari is setting a precedent |
Grand plan. Nigeria is in for a long thing. It's not about amnesty or pipeline security contracts. Buhari doesn't know what he's up against. He might know but unfortunately he's helpless. Sacking southern officers won't help. Only the wise can discern and solve this problem. |
Only referendum can decide your people's fate. Cameron thought his people wouldn't leave EU, he was wrong. That said, even if Issoko /Urhobo decide to stay in Nigeria, good for them! Ijaws want ND republic , Igbos want their nation as well. It's a free world bro! |
You are married with a family that is going hungry . Somebody stole some of your family wealth. What would you do? Go after people with your family wealth (will take years of litigation, fighting etc) or look for ways to provide for your family's immediate need while plan on how to recover stolen family wealth. I have seen people wretched while going to court for family land, wealth, property etc. It's time consuming, distracting etc. I've seen people let go, struggle harder and make the best out hardship. I believe buhari and his government may end up wretched if they continue the way they are currently carrying along. |
Even if you settle them now, another group will come up tomorrow. Why not treat the root cause Regionalism, self rule is the only solution. We contribute together for military, etc but individually manage our economy, health, education etc. |
USA has a lot of oil deposit. However they don't depend on it and actually regulates it's exploitation. Here we are lazy. I've not seen our oyel mentality in USA (though the oil is owned by individuals whose lands are explored, stark difference to Nigeria model). |
These guys are serious. The only solution is a sincere talk with agitated groups . Buhari must change his stance on Nigeria unity is not negotiable . Only solution is negotiated existence. He must change his position as he changed in Monetary policy, fuel subsidy, etc. He's not seen anything yet, this is not military. He must learn to listen. SS and SE want self rule. Can we at least try UK model as a start. ND can be like Scotland. Let them have their government, police, economic model etc. After a few years, we can decide if we want to pull out fully or remain. We will have our national football team . Nigeria name will disappear from FIFA On a serious note, we need to frankly talk about our relationship with each other and way forward. |
Their Twitter and now Facebook accounts have been taken down. How do we authenticate and differentiate in between attacks? |
Ohaneze youth group is a failure. Why engross yourself into too much politics. You guys speak for your stomachs not Igbo youths |
So what's the aim of your post? I attended a missionary school and we never observed a Islamic holiday. It's not a public school, it's a private school. |
fiizznation:I thought you said you won't be commenting on Niger Delta Avengers issues again? Why are you so obsessed with them? |
A Facebook user uploaded this asking for justice in the murder of NYSC corp member in Akwa Ibom. Screen grab below
|
ibotjaycob:That's how some of my brethren term me Yoruba each time I make an objective observation that will help them. I must not insult other tribes to prove that I'm Igbo. I must not be a stereotype. Don't mind them |
Dividends of several months of trial and error. Can you recount economic blunders of Buharinomics? We are always quick to forget : 1. Banning forex payment into dorm accounts 2.Fixing naira way below it's worth 3. Regulating tightly what people can or cannot buy abroad 4. Attempting to run economy as a one man business I know they will blame past administration, Buhari we are tired of your failure. The earlier you exit the better for Nigerians. |
Government is definitely not serious. Buhari is also not showing any seriousness. His body language by sacking southern officers and installing northern muslim officers is disheartening to any southerner. The only way to stem these bombing is by granting regions partial autonomy. Scotland in the UK have their own parliament with a first minister. Let's try a decentralized government. Any region that decides to destroy their economy will then suffer consequences |
JohnNgene, I like your writeup, you're a good story teller. This storyline will fetch you wealth in future when compiled as a "personal memoir". It gives insight to actual struggles of an Igbo youth as against popular opinions about Igbos. As you struggle to success, your landlord child tests his hands on poultry etc. These are real stories and experiences. Kudos |
