Barely 24 hours after President Buhari disclosed that his government is in talks with the Niger Delta militants to stem the tide of attacks on oil installations in the region, notable militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, released a statement on their website saying they are not aware of such talks.

"Our attention has been drawn to media report that the President is in touch with Niger Delta agitators including the Niger Delta Avengers but the truth is that we are not aware of any peace talk. If there is any such peace talk, it means the President is talking to their mercenaries set to disturb the genuine struggle of the agitators.

President Buhari led government is not sincere tothe Nigeria people and their foreign allies. If we are to engage in any peace talk we made it clear that the international community must be part of it. The President know our demands. So they should stop deceiving the international oil companies, the general public and the international community.

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined President Obama and other world leaders in vehemently condemning the abortive coup attempt in Turkey by a group of rebel army officers and men, which resulted in the reported death of more than 100 people.


Reacting to the tragic events in Ankara, Istanbul and other centres, President Buhari says he is “deeply saddened by reports of a violent attempt to dismantle constitutional authority and disrupt the democratically elected government of Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey.”

“The removal of a democratic government by force is no longer acceptable. Violence can never solve any problem but only complicates them and sets back the progress of democratic societies.”

The President also notes that President Erdogan is one of Nigeria’s close international partners and sincere supporters in its current war against terrorism, adding that all should resist the “destabilization of democratic countries through coups d’état in the 21st century.”

According to the President, “democracy provides peaceful options of changing governments through the ballot box. The ballot box doesn’t require violence to remove any government perceived to have lost its popularity and public support. Despite its limitations, democracy is still better and more durable than a violent change of government.”

The President praises the courage and immediate response of ordinary citizens who in face of guns and tanks defied the rebel soldiers and forced them to abandon their mad quest for power.

President Buhari calls on the President of Turkey to pursue reconciliation and offers Nigeria’s support to the government and people of Turkey in their hour of trial.

A project tagged ' The Viceroys of Mathematics ' was carried out by The Viceroys group of seven youth corps members. These corps members are but a few of the many corps members trained by FifthGear Plus through the MarketPlaceReadiness programme (MPR) under the distinguished leadership of Mr Niyi Adesanya.


MPR programme is part of the NYSC LAGOS SAED (skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programme) scheme. The project was a mathematics competition between four Junior Secondary Schools in Agege LGA,they include; District Junior School, YEWA Junior School, Sango Junior School and Unity Junior College,.


The competition was held on Wednesday the 29th of June, 2016 at Sango Senior Secondary School premises in Agege. According to the group leader, Miss. Jemikalajah Mercy Onome, the project sought to educate, enlighten and encourage the students on the usefulness of mathematics. Some of the guest speakers who graced the event such as Mrs A.A Bamisile ( principal unity college) represented by Mrs Omole ( Hod English dept), Mr Emmanuel kadiri, CEO Emostel Academy, Mr Onye Ubanatu and Miss Alaboh Atonia shared their experiences on the subject of mathematics and how they overcame it.


In attendance were the school officials of the four schools, over 70 students and some dignitaries. Two students represented each school and in first position we had Abdulahi Mohammed and Ikowche Mary (District Junior School), in second place we had Mohammed Lamine and Ojeamren Dorathy (Unity College), in third place we had Odediran Shukurat and Olamilekan Olamide(Yewa School) and in fourth place , Blessing Malik and Ahmod Mohammed both represented (Sango School).


Representatives from the participating schools appreciated the corps members for embarking on the project and they equally encouraged the pupils to work harder as to attain greatness in life.



In her vote of thanks, the leader of the group, Mercy Onome Jemikalajah thanked all the participants, the facilitators, the speakers and all those that contributed to the success of the project. She also thanked Etisalat for sponsoring the project with various gift items, Bimbyz Joy Creations and Emostel Academy for their contributions.


Conclusively, she thanked Mr Niyi Adesanya for the MarketPlace Readiness Programme that availed the corpers the opportunity and ability to carry out the project. The Peoples' Democratic Party in Abia State has frowned at the reports making round the State that a certain desperate politician in the State, whose illegal efforts to cease power from the back door has been frustrated by decent application of the rule of law, is now directing his evil machination towards kidnapping Judicial officers in the State with the hope of intimidating them in order to have access to power he did not canvass for.

The Party has equally taken cognizance of the inordinately- ambitious politician's plot to kidnap some top functionaries of the Party in the State.

According to intelligence available to the Party, the political desperado is embittered with the State Executive of the Party for not coming out to support his acts of illegality.

The Party, therefore, cautions the politician that is involved in this sacrilegious and bloody shenanigan to quickly retrace his nefarious steps as the likely consequences of his devious desires and mischievous plots would compound his imagination and would only leave him with regrets that may not be redressed or even corrected in his life's time. Two elderly women died on Saturday in a violent struggle for Ramadan gifts distributed on behalf of a former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at Onikan Stadium in the state.

It has been learnt that a middle-aged man fainted in the commotion, while several others were injured during the distribution by the Iyaloja General of Nigeria and Tinubu’s daughter, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.

The Lagos State Police Command, however, said no deaths were recorded from the stampede.

Each gift pack was said to have included a package of rice, salt, noodles and sugar, as well as a sum of N1,500 contained in an envelope, which were given to each person.

It was learnt that the injured were rushed to the Marina General Hospital, while corpses of the deceased women, who were said to be in their sixties, were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

An eyewitness, Fatai Fatokun, said a crowd had besieged the stadium around 8am to collect the gifts, with males and females maintaining separate queues.

He said the exercise was smooth until around 11.30am when it was disrupted by some impatient persons.

Fatokun also said, “We started entering the stadium with a pass as early as 8am. The distribution started at 10am and each person was collecting a bag containing rice, semovita, noodles, sugar and salt and a sum of N1,500. It was Iyaloja General that represented Asiwaju.

“Around 11.30am, people became impatient for the fear that the gifts might not get to them. There was a stampede and two persons died in the process. Their bodies were laid under a tent, while an ambulance that would carry them was being awaited. It was when the clothes that were used to cover their faces were removed that I discovered they were elderly women.

“Their bodies were eventually taken to the mortuary by an ambulance of the Lagos State Ambulance Services. Several people were also injured. I left the place after the women died.”

Metronaija even as at now, the place is still under heavy traffic as cars coming from both sides have to share a small passage available on one side of the road. The driver and assistant were reduced to ashes and their corpse have been taken to the mortuary. Some pictures are attached to it.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, have arrived in court ahead of the commencement of their trial over alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order.

Popularly known as the Senate Rules, the Senate Standing Order said to have been forged by Saraki, Ekweremadu and others in the bid to inaugurate the 8th Assembly last year.

This was also used for the election that produced the Principal Officers of the Assembly.

Also in court is the former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, who is also standing trial alongside Saraki and Ekweremadu.

They will be arraigned any moment from now at Court 32 of the Federal High Court, Jabi in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, presided over by Justice Halilu Yusuf.

Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar has charged all Sons and Daughters of Bauchi State who are holding various positions at the Federal Level to collaborate with the state government so as to achieve the desired socioeconomic development in the state.

The Governor stated this to the participants of a fast breaking dinner organised by the Bauchi State government held at the Bauchi State Governor's Lodge Abuja.

He said their support and useful advice would assist positively towards taking the state to greater heights. Governor Abubakar also used the forum to brief the participants about some of the achievements of his Government so far recorded within the period one year which include the construction of access roads in some parts of the state, the ongoing construction of Primary Health Care Centres across the 20 local government areas of the state, construction of boreholes in all the 20 LGAs and the improvement of Education in both primary and tertiary institutions in the state. The Governor further stated that his administration is ready to receive useful advice that would promote the image and the development of Bauchi state.

He therefore assured them that despite the dwindling resources, his Government will soon embark on total renovation of primary schools aimed at providing good and qualitative education to children of Bauchi state. During the dinner, Governor Muhammed Abubakar, inaugurated a six man lobby committee to see the actualization of the North East Development Commission Headquarters to be established in Bauchi. The Committee is to be chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu. Other members of the committee include Air vice Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, Hajiya Ladi Katagum, Barrister Kefas Magaji, Alhaji Yahaya Yusuf, and Nigeria Customs boss Colonel Hamid Ali (rtd).

The Governor also used the forum to congratulate them over their appointments into various offices at the Federal government. In their separate remarks the participants assured their commitment to support and collaborate with the state government in order to achieve its set objectives.
