Canice Atsu, (in green vest) the Executive Secretary of the Obudu Urban Development Authority (BUDA) has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. According to sources, the gunmen reportedly trailed Atsu all the way from Ogoja where he went for a function on Saturday, October 8th, and abducted him about 5 minutes after he arrived his home located along Ranch road in Obudu.

There are also reports of an upsurge in crime in Obudu, ranging from robberies and cult clashes. "Every day there is no morning you wake and not hear of a robbery incident in one or two parts of Obudu, especially the urban areas" said Ikwen Atuaka from Obudu.

The invigorated Intelligence Response Team (IRT) under the auspices of the office of the Inspector General of Police launched a massive onslaught on the kidnappers of some residents of an estate in Isheri area of Lagos state. This yielded prompt result as the hoodlums were eventually arrested.

This feat was achieved as a result of due diligence and intelligence led policing exhibited by members of the Force and the zeal shown by public spirited citizens to rid our society of crime.
It will be recalled that some residents of an Estate in Isheri area of Lagos state were kidnapped on 27/09/2016 and were subsequently released by their abductors. The following suspects were arrested by the team:
i. Natei Okunna ‘M’ (gang leader)

ii. James Kegbe ‘M’ a.k.a JJ

iii. ThankGod Segede ‘M’

iv. Trust Bourdilon ‘M’.

The suspects were arrested at different locations where they had gone to spend their share of the ransom. They, in the course of investigation, volunteered confessional statements admitting their involvement in the kidnap incident.
The Inspector General of Police wishes to restate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to fight crime, especially the prevalent scourge of kidnapping to a bearable and tolerable state. He urges Nigerians to always be law abiding and to see themselves as stakeholders in this noble cause.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has reacted to the arrest and detention of two Supreme Court Justices and judges on Saturday by men of the Department.



The DSS has claimed N93 million was recovered from the residences of the judicial officers but the NBA has declared a judicial state of emergency until their release.



The NBA President Abubakar Mahmoud, Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, Olisa Agbakoba SAN, JB Daudu SAN and others were at a press conference as they promised: “grave consequences if the judges are not released immediately.”

For the umpteenth time, hundreds of members of the Ijaw Youth Council staged a protest in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

According to report from our correspondent, the aggrieved Ijaw youths complained about the alleged persecution of former President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his family.

It was gathered that human and vehicular movements along Sani Abacha Road and Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa was disrupted due to the protest that began about 8am.

The protesters, who carried out their agitation under heavy security presence, also alleged that the Muhammdu Buhari administration had not been funding the interventionist agencies and projects in the Niger Delta.

As a result of the protest, business and commercial activities were disrupted for some hours in the metropolis.

Also, there was congestion in some parts of the metropolis which forced motorists and commercial drivers to make a detour to escape the heavy traffic jam.

Passengers and commuters were stranded as many were seen trekking to get to their workplaces and business centres.

Riot policemen were seen blocking some parts of the roads to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Many of the protesters, during the protest, were seen chanting protest songs with placards bearing inscriptions such as, ‘Stop harassing Jonathan’s family’, ‘Leave Patience Jonathan alone’, ‘If you must probe Dame Patience Jonathan, all the former first ladies must be probed’, and ‘We need projects in Niger Delta, not soldiers.’

President of IYC, Mr. Udengs Eradiri, while addressing co-protesters in front of the headquarters of IYC, said that the protest was to send a message to Federal Government about the attitude of the EFCC towards the family of Jonathan.

He said the country had produced a lot of first ladies but the only one from the Niger Delta was constantly harassed by the EFCC.

After his favourite candidate, Godwin Obaseki, won the Edo State Election earlier in the week, it was double celebration for Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole on Independence day.

The outgoing governor and his pretty wife Lara celebrated 56th Independence Day of Nigeria with kids in the state.

ASUUNigeria’s university teachers’ union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has denied reports that its members have issued a strike notice to the Federal over unpaid dues as reported by some newspapers.



Dr Ben Ugheoke, Chairman, University of Abuja chapter of ASUU said in a statement on Tuesday that the union has not issued strike notice to the Federal Government contrary to media reports.



He also denied granting any interview or issuing a statement on a pending strike as it was reported.



“My attention has been drawn to a publication online and on social media captioned UniAbuja ASUU to begin strike on Oct. 2.

“The public and ASUU National Executive Council should know and note that no one came, either as journalist or any press team, to interview me.



“I hereby denounce such a publication as the work of mischief makers, targeted at misleading the unsuspecting public about the trajectory of the struggles of ASUU.



“ASUU is committed to revitalising the University of Abuja and indeed, the education system of Nigeria,’’ he said in the statement,” the University of Abuja ASUU Chairman said in the statement.



Dr. Ugheoke therefore urged the public and other stakeholders in the education sector to disregard the report as it did not originate from him.
