HealthCharles Oben: GSK Drug Turned A Healthy Banker Into A Monster by metronaija(op): 10:42am On Sep 11, 2015
https://insidemainland.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/GSK-640x480.jpg
With the help of Joseph Edgar – a popular blogger and investment banker , www.metronaija.com was able to get this very surreal tale of a banker, Charles Oben, whose life took a dramatically destructive turn in the course of seeking a healthy life.
https://insidemainland.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/charles.png
A healthy Charles Oben
It started when Charles who worked with the UBA was posted to Burkina Faso and in his usual meticulous self visited a Cardiologist for a routine check. They found out that his urea level was high and the drug Zyloric (manufactured by Glaxo Smithkline (GSK) Pharmaceuticals) was prescribed. He bought the drug for about N1,300 and dutifully took administered dosage. However in less than 36 hours his life was turned into a living hell.
https://insidemainland.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/GSK-4-300x225.jpg
Blisters, skin peeling, eyes destroyed, bleeding from everywhere, bed sores and everything imaginable became his plight. His wife Joan flew in, saw her husband and melted. His children came in and ran away. Mirrors where kept away from him.
https://insidemainland.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/GSK-2-300x225.jpg
Charles condition is known as the Stephen Johnson Syndrome (SJS) typically caused by a severe allergic reaction to a medication. SJS usually begins with a Stevens Johnson Syndrome rash that can lead to blistering, severe peeling and open sores. The condition is a serious and potentially life-threatening disease .
Charles was eventually evacuated to the UK with the private efforts of Joan and his family and there he received succor but with lasting side effects. He has had two cornea replacement surgeries and much more devastating is the fact that he cannot shed a tear for the rest of his natural life. He has been confined to the use of artificial tear inducing drugs which he buys from America at the cost of $200 monthly.
He has dragged Glaxo Smithkline the manufacturer of the drug to court for the irreparable damages to his life.
Joan, Charles’ dedicated wife wants the Nigerian government to push the pharmaceutical companies in the country to take proactive steps in warning consumers not only about the side effect of their drugs, but also about the severity that such side effects may escalate.
https://insidemainland.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Joan-Oben-300x300.jpg
She said, “drug companies will stop taking advantage of the populace. That legislation should force them to write the warnings in the right language and in the right context in the leaflet. If Zyloric, or any of its other commercial names can possibly lead to SJS, which can lead to blindness and death, it should say so on the drug and it should say so in the local language. English for Nigeria.”

Phones250 Million Fake Phones Sold In Nigeria Yearly - NCC by metronaija(op): 10:11am On Sep 11, 2015
The Nigerian Telecommunications Commission yesterday disclosed that about 250 million substandard phones were sold annually in the country.

The acting Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta, who gave the figure during a stake holders meeting on ‘ Combating Counterfeit and Substandard ICT Devices Programme in Abuja, noted that the damaging impact of the substandard products on the economy cannot be quantified in socio-economic terms.

Specifically, he lamented the damaging effects of the products on a broad spectrum of the national life, saying that the ugly development poses grave danger to the health, safety and privacy of buyers and the nation’s environment.

He said” counterfeiting is a growing economic problem affecting a wide range of products in the ICT sector, mobile phones are especially targeted with some 250 million counterfeits sold annually. This number constitutes about 15% to 20% of the global mobile phone market.

“Apart from the obvious negative economic impact of this ugly trend on the manufacturers of genuine products, government, authorized dealers which include brand evaluation, loss of revenue, copyright and trademark infringement, unfair competition, loss of tax, cost of compliance with applicable national legislation, national security and loss of employment opportunities.

“This menace also poses danger to the health and safety of consumers equally breaching the privacy of consumers. Collective efforts is urgently needed to curtail counterfeiting in ICT,” Danbatta added.

Also speaking, director EMEA Mobile Manufacturers Forum, Thomas Barmuller, stressed the need to address counterfeit phones due to the hazardous substances which he said were not only a risk to safety, health and economic development,, but was a tool used for transmission of deadly viruses.

According to him, investigations has shown that the incidence of malware, spyware and SMS Trojans has increased dramatically especially with the usage of fake smart phones.

He however called for increased consumer education through communication strategy both at the national and regional levels, to create awareness on the negative effects of counterfeit phones so as to enable consumers, manufacturers and operators link to a trustworthy source.

He added that, “it is necessary to work with stake holders to address the situation by developing communication campaigns, build awareness and support reforms in key markets.”

Timipre Sylva, former Governor of Bayelsa state and All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan was President of Bayelsa state, not President of Nigeria;

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on his chances of wining the forthcoming gubernatorial election, Sylva said, “I am not worried. I always say that the former president was the president of Bayelsa State and he has proven me right. He has always been the president of Bayelsa State; He was never the President of Nigeria''.

''I feel that I have a good standing with the people. As you can see, if you look behind me, you will see the array of Bayelsans who are here with me. Who else is left in Bayelsa? So, I think that because of the people who are with me, I feel I stand a very good chance.”

Read the press statement from EFCC

A Nigerian fugitive, Abdul Adewale Kekere-Ekun, who was arrested on February 12, 2015 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, for identity theft-related offences, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the United Kingdom. He was jailed for the murder of 18-year-old Marcus Hall in 2001, following a brawl outside Luton’s Atmosphere Nightclub, where the popular music group, So Solid Crew, had performed.

Though 39-year old Mr. Kekere-Ekun, who goes by several aliases like Adebayo Dalvin James Ekun, Adeba Yo Kekere-Ekun, Adeba Yo Muta Lito Kekere-Ekun, James Dalvin, James Adebayo, had initially pleaded guilty to the murder charge before the Luton Crown Court, he later fled to Nigeria.
He was, however, arrested in Nigeria in February by the EFCC.

During investigation, it was revealed that Mr. Kekere-Ekun, who was arrested for fraud, was on the wanted list of the United Kingdom Police. Consequently, an extradition notice signed by the then Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, was served on him by the EFCC. He was finally extradited to the United Kingdom, where he reportedly admitted to the killing.

Before his conviction Monday, seven of the gang members had been convicted in 2002 and 2003 for their part in Mr. Hall’s murder, but two convictions were later quashed.

Revealing how he was traced, the Bedfordshire Police said he was identified in CCTV footage of the attack, where he was wearing a distinctive checked coat.

Upon discovery of a flyer for the shop found by the Bedfordshire Police during a raid on his home, detectives went to a designer clothes store in London, where it was discovered that the jacket was one of only nine sold in the United Kingdom and the convict was listed as one of the buyers.

After the sentencing, Mr. Hall’s mother, Icelyn Wilson, in a statement issued through the Bedfordshire Police, was quoted to have said, ‘‘My son’s death still hurts as if it had happened yesterday and I will never get over it. You did not just ruin one life, you left a ‘ripple effect’ which has impacted on everyone involved in my son, Marcus’ life.”

PoliticsBuhari's Top Achievements In His First 100 Days In Office by metronaija(op): 7:52am On Sep 06, 2015
September 5, 2015 is an unusually momentous day in Nigeria. Its build-up lasted for several weeks, while its anticipation stretches back as far as May. It’s neither a national holiday (it’s a Saturday) nor a day of religious importance. Rather, it’s a day when several state governors in the country mark their 100thday in office. More importantly though, it’s also the day that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, clocks 100 days in office.

All over the world, the anniversary of the first 100 days of any administration is treated with much importance. It’s a day of stocktaking; a day that affords the leaders and the led an opportunity to measure the performance of their government.

The First 100 Days in Office
was coined by former US president Franklin D. Roosevelt in a July 24, 1933 radio address to his countrymen and it has since gained global currency. Over here in Nigeria, it’s been consistently marked since the country’s return to civilian leadership in 1999. The administrations of presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan were all assessed during this milestone. Today, it’s time for President Buhari’s administration to be assessed.

The verdict, it seems, had already been passed several days before the actual 100thday in office. Throughout last week, hashtags by disappointed Nigerians, such as #100WastedDays and #100FailedPromises, trended on microblogging site Twitter and they are likely to reappear today. Predictably, diehard supporters of President Buhari will not take it lying down, they are expected to counterattack with their own panegyric hashtags.

I’m neither a diehard supporter of the president nor a sworn enemy; I like to be objective. My dispassionate personal assessment of PMB’s first 100 days in office shows that he has not performed as badly as we’ve been made to believe. Bearing in mind the country we are in, he’s not expected to perform wonders within 100 days. Not even a Harry Potter, a Merlin or a Gandalf can turn around in 100 days a country that has been enmeshed in a deep mess since the 1960s.

However, in spite of these difficulties, President Muhammadu Buhari has been able to record some successes in his first hundred days in office. Below are 8 of the key achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari in his maiden 100 days in office:

Renewed Vigour in the War against Boko Haram
One of the key achievements of the Muhammadu Buhari administration thus far is the overhaul of the dysfunctional topmost hierarchy of the Nigerian military. Since May 29, new service chiefs have been brought in, the military command centre has been moved to the heart of the war in Maiduguri and the troops’ morale and confidence are on an upswing. Furthermore, the United States government has finally agreed to commit their resources to the fight against the insurgents after previously backing out of negotiations with the previous Nigerian government, citing alleged human rights abuses by the Nigerian military. The Israeli government has also indicated their interest in helping Nigeria win the war,if the words of Speaker Yakubu Dogara are anything to go by.

Waging a “Non-Negotiable” War against Corruption
On August 30, President Muhammadu Buhari, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described the war his administration is currently waging on corruption in the country as “non-negotiable.” In his words: “It is sine qua non to the overall reconstruction of the economy and social system which have suffered destruction and severe denigration under the last administration.” Be that as it may, the present government must learn to go about its probe of the immediate-past Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration with more hush and decorum, so that it looks less like a persecution and more like an actual prosecution.

Appreciable Improvement in Power Supply in Various Parts of the Country
Though some parts of the country are yet to witness it, there’s been a marked upswing in power supply in many parts of the federation since May 29. According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), power generation in the country reached an all-time high of 4,810.7MW on August 25, 2015. This represents a major departure from what was obtainable in the past, when it usually hovered around 2,000MW and sometimes dipped below that. However, it should be noted that the power supply is still far from stable and hardly is 4.8 thousand megawatts enough for a country of over 175 million people.

Cleanup of the Messy NNPC
As the “juiciest” fragment of the national economy, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has, for decades, been the nexus of unchecked, gargantuan corruption. Administration after administration either abated the wild corruption going on in this organization or simply failed to properly keep it in check. This, it seems, will no longer be the case as concerted efforts are now being made to declutter the cesspit.

Mending of Nigeria’s Fractured Relationship with the World Powers
Nigeria’s relationship with the global powers, especially the West, sank to its post-1990s nadir prior to the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari as the country’s president. The assent of ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to the anti-gay marriage bill that was passed by the National Assembly, the confusion surrounding the abduction of the Chibok Schoolgirls and the government’s slow response to it, alleged human rights abuses perpetuated by the Nigerian military, mounting allegations of unbridled widespread corruption as well as some economic and political disagreements with the West behind the scenes all conspired to make Nigeria very unpopular in the international community. At some point, Nigerians were being treated with disdain and subjected to inhuman treatments in foreign lands as a consequence. But, so far under President Buhari, things are discernibly beginning to look up.

Prioritizing Regional Cooperation
Following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, President Muhammadu Buhari has made regional integration within the West African subregion one of the priorities of his administration. This policy direction is not only economically vital, but it will also be critical if the war against insurgency is to be won.

Returning Discipline to the Polity
Due to the president’s no-nonsense personality as against his predecessor’s more laissez-faire disposition, some level of discipline has been restored to various sectors of the country, especially the public sector. A laissez-faire approach may work in more civilized countries, but in an unruly country such as ours, an uncompromising approach is the only thing that can bring us back to sanity.

Reducing the Size and Cost of Governance
When – and if – implemented, President Muhammadu Buhari’s vow to significantly cut down the number of ministries, agencies and departments (MDAs) in the country by merging the duplicates and jettisoning the non-performers will inadvertently save Nigeria monies to the tune of hundreds of billions of naira that are needlessly spilled from the national treasury into their maintenance. The successful blockage of these leakages does not only make economic sense, but it will also be a giant leap in the fight against corruption.

PoliticsMy Govt Will Focus On Vanishing Hunger Than Social Infrastructures- Fayose by metronaija(op): 7:00pm On Sep 03, 2015

Despite people’s opinions about the governor’s popular stomach infrastructure practice, the Governor who recently distributed items such as rice, milk, groundnut oil, beverages and maggi to the people of the State said he will do more rather than repair roads or focus on education for now.

The Governor according to a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said only healthy people could contribute to the development of their societies.

“We are all witnessing what is going on across the world. People are moving to places they think has greener pasture even at the risk of their lives. People from Eastern Europe are struggling to get to the West. Here in Ekiti, our concern is the welfare of the citizens. When we banish hunger, assist in the provision of good health care services, then we can talk of roads and other social infrastructure. A hungry man may not value a road that is tarred because his major concern first will be to have food to eat. We are not allowing paucity of funds to deter us. When we started last year, mockers felt the programme would fizzle out or die, but it has not and will not. We have held it thrice in Ado-Ekiti and now Ikere-Ekiti and it will go round the state,” he said.

Do you agree that a government should feed its people first before building good roads or focusing on education? Your thoughts!

CelebritiesAfricans Had No Reason To Ban Marijuana – Seun Kuti by metronaija(op): 6:58pm On Sep 01, 2015
https://www.theheraldng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/s2_seun_kuti-623x336.jpg
Afro beat musician, Seun Kuti in a recent interview said that the Nigerian government was ill advised to ban the use of marijuana, believing that the decision is a carryover of colonial law.

Seun who is also Afrobeat founder Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s son said: “There are doctors and scientists who believe that marijuana should be legalised. There are also lawyers, judges, and politicians who believe that the war on drugs is a false war. That is actually a war on the poor people all over the world, because poor people and rich people use drugs to be sane. But you will find that here, people are in jail more for drug use.”

Going further, he explained: “We as Africans had no reason to ban marijuana. It was done out of the U.S. lobby, forcing our governments to ban the drug. I don’t think that the Nigerian government has ever carried out any independent research on marijuana. One of the biggest markets in the world for marijuana in the world is Israel (which is a more religious country than Nigeria). But they understand the benefits… especially the economic benefits. So much wealth can be generated from it, but that is another issue entirely.”

Seun, a father of one, also said that he does not believe in marriage for the simple reason that it is a power game. “It is a thing of ego, of domination and submission. I think humanity is gradually moving away from it from the number of marriages that don’t even work. In the ones that work, someone has to submit, someone has to give up who they are for the other person for it to work; especially the women, if no one agrees to do that, the marriage won’t work. Women are more independent.”

SportsSegun Odegbami Runs For FIFA Presidency by metronaija(op): 6:44pm On Sep 01, 2015
https://footballlive.ng/footballnews/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/odegbamm.jpg
African ace football legend and one of the greatest Nigerian players of all time, Segun Odegbami, has thrown his hat into the ring to contest for the post of President of FIFA – the international governing body of association football across the world, with election scheduled to take place on the 26th of February, 2016in Zurich, Switzerland.

The position of the President of FIFA is now vacant since the current president – Sepp Blatter – resigned his appointment in June 2015. According to Segun Odegbami, also known as ‘Mathematical Odegbami’ – a label he was given because of his masterful exhibition of engineered dribbles, technical control of the ball and goal-scoring skills during his footballing era – said, “The current scandal at FIFA is the organisation’s worst crisis in its 111 years of existence. Moving forward, FIFA thus require a new era of leadership that can restore the dignity of the noble sport and that of this esteemed international institution with global followership”

Odegbami believes that to address this will demand that FIFA purges itself, launders its image, restores its reputation and reinstates integrity into its activities and operations and that this would require a new form of leadership with a renewed vision. He said: “Times like this call for all concerned members of the global football family to contribute to the actualization of renewed objectives for FIFA by electing a deserving and qualified person, with the right character that can achieve the desired goals and restore confidence and integrity to the organization and its activities. The world is very interested in who becomes the next President of FIFA, considering the present image and state of this institution and I see myself fitting into this role”

A look at Segun Odegbami’s background reveals a wholesome and rich antecedent that reflects that this legendary son of African does qualify for this post and has what it takes to effectively represent the Nigerian nation and African continent at FIFA. Odegbami’s relationship with football, started when he was 5 years old With his pedigree, passion, vision, experience, knowledge and character – most of which are evidenced in his broad and global experiences and exposures – this epitome of humility and visionary leadership has demonstrated astute discipline and integrity in all his activities and endeavours, within and outside football. The former captain of the Green Eagles, with 46 caps and 23 goals for the national team and one of those that made the number 7 jersey popular, had also served as an administrator, an educator, a writer, international media personality and as Sports Ambassador of Nigeria.

The choice of an African, specifically a Nigerian, may look far-fetched in this pursuit, noting the international coverage of FIFA and the historical trend in its leadership representation. However, a closer scrutiny of the international footballing environment reveals the real possibility of such a change. Throughout the history of FIFA, the organisation had been led by 7 Europeans and one South American, never an African! This despite Africa’s tremendous contributions to the game. Therefore, Odegbami’s aspiration for the leadership of FIFA and noting that he is representing the African continent creates an opportunity to make it the time for Africa.

The bid, from this internationally acclaimed and highly decorated sports man, who has bagged many honours and awards, among which are the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger, the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Management, FIFA/Mastercard African Players of the 20th Century award, an Honorary Doctorate Degree [Sports] from Bradley University, Illinois, USA, and an Ambassador of the 1-Goal Education-for-All World Cup 2010 Campaign, will be positioned on core messages that this is an African bid, that it is Africa’s turn to lead FIFA, that the spirit and essence of football can reach and permeate far beyond a game of sport, and that football administration can be renewed and viewed from the unique lens of Africa. In his words, “football is what my entire life has revolved around. My life’s ambition has always been to use football to make a difference in my local space and across the world, to go back to the original mission of promoting peace and cementing the bonds of friendships amongst the citizens of the world, and maximizing the global followership of the game to transform the lives of people and communities and advance social causes around the world”

Hence, Odegbami’s approach will pay a lot of attention to issues beyond the current power struggles in football, by exploiting and exploring the sport in a holistic way and focusing on the positive products and by-products of the game that can positively influence and impact on the youths and broader communities of the world. Odegbami promises to steer the activities of the office of the President of FIFA with the highest sense of responsibility, integrity, transparency, probity and accountability, as reflected by the current spirit of value-based leadership now in Nigeria, thereby creating a new and optimistic future for football that further focuses on human, infrastructural, social and community development across the world.

The process for the attainment of the position of President of FIFA is a long and tedious journey, which Segun Odegbami is prepared to travel. He has already conveyed his intention to the Nigeria Football Federation, as required by the electoral guidelines and FIFA Statutes, as well as to the federal government seeking their support.

The deadline for candidates to formally present their nominations through their home football federations, with other supporting documents, is 26th October 2015. Candidates will also undergo an integrity test, through FIFA’s ad-hoc election committee. Segun Odegbami now seeks the support and prayers of all Nigerians, the African continent and, indeed, the whole world, in taking up this challenge to recreate a new image for the game of football and reposition its developmental influence and possibilities across the globe.

PoliticsBorno Govt Gave Kidnapped Chibok Parents 100,000 Naira Each by metronaija(op): 8:39pm On Aug 29, 2015
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State on Saturday presented N100,000 cash assistance and clothing materials to each of the parents of the 219 girls abducted at the Government Secondary School, Chibok.

He presented the items while interacting with the parents in Maiduguri, noting that the gesture was a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I met with the president last Thursday in Abuja and he directed that I should meet you and console you over the missing girls.

“The president urged me to extend his heart-felt greetings to you on the issue,’’ he said.

Shettima added that Buhari assured him that the missing girls would soon be rescued going by the renewed military offensive on the insurgents.

“The president assured me that the missing girls would soon be re-united with their families as efforts are being intensified to rescue them,’’ he said.

Shettima said that it was based on that grounds that he invited the parents for the interaction at the Government House, Maiduguri, to deliver the message.

He said that the abduction of the girls had affected the livelihood of the parents as some of them had not been able to engage in any economic activities since the incident occurred.

“The money is not a ransom or a kind of compensation for the missing girls; it is to provide a kind of relief to the parents, who have been devastated by the loss of their children,’’ he said.

He said that government would unfold a plan for rehabilitating the girls once they were rescued by the military.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Boko Haram insurgents abducted the girls on the night of April 14, 2014.(NAN)

CelebritiesTop 10 Nigerian Artistes With The Biggest Endorsements by metronaija(op): 8:23pm On Aug 29, 2015
Nigerian is known as the capital of music in Africa. With many talented and creative singers and upcoming music artistes seeking desperately for recognition in this industry, the country can boast of a handful of talented singers from different genre representing Nigeria just like our sporting prowess.

For a secular artiste, endorsement from corporate bodies is a big advantage. The cash involved is a symbol of stability and having arrived.

So, when the telecom companies courted artistes branding them as ambassadors, it was a welcomed development sought by both big and small artistes.

MTN, Globacom, Etisalat and Airtel have all unveiled artistes as their ambassadors while existing ones have been renewed this year.

Airtel endorsed five artistes so far in 2015 and they are 2face Idibia, Phyno, Patoranking as well as fast rising comedian Akpororo and Big Brother Africa (BBA) host, IK Osakioduwa. MTN also renewed its contracts with its brand ambassadors, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy and Iyanya.

Olamide’s deal was also renewed with Etisalat with the likes of Seyi Shay coming on board. Burna Boy, Omawumi, MI, Bez, Flavour also had their endorsements renewed with Globacom.

Most times, the sums of money involved are hidden and shrouded in secrecy as no one really knows who got what. Other corporate firms have lined up to reach out to the younger generation via this endorsement strategy. The following is an estimate of who’s got the biggest endorsement among our musicians.

P SQUARE – N180M
The pop duo have been in the frontline of entertainment in Africa. The star singers, Peter and Paul Okoya known as P Square have been dominant Globacom ambassadors and their deals have been a subject of envy among colleagues. The Alingo crooners are a hardworking set of dancers and singers. P Square’s deal with the same outfit goes for N140 million. One of them, Peter Okoye is the face of Olympic Milk deals swelling their endorsement status. The singers definitely have other deals but these are what is known so far.

D’BANJ- N160M
D’Banj’s Globacom deal is close to N100 million according to findings.
In October 2014, D’banj signed a lucrative endorsement deal with Apple/Beats By Dre. The amount of his deal is undisclosed but should be nothing less than N50 million. The Kokomaster also got his own customised headphones which will be launched in December. He also became ambassador for Cîroc drink in Nigeria along with Banky W. ‘The Feeling the Nigga’ crooner posted a bottle of Ciroc and Banky W posting a picture with his best friend, Tunde Demuren and captioned it ‘Showtime’.

WIZKID- N128.6M
With his N45 million MTN deal almost doubled by rival telecom giant, Globacom, Wizkid is a man that knows his onions. According to a source, Globacom doubled the amount MTN paid Wizkid last year to land him on their side. Wizkid shared several photos of him and Glo Bounce logo with “200% and $$$” as tags. The superstar is a major coup for the Mike Adenuga-led company which doesn’t have many A-List artistes on its brand ambassador list. Wizkid reportedly got N120 million from Glo on a two-year deal which means he will be paid N60 million every year. His 25th birthday last June was marked with a renewal of his contract with Soda giants ‘Pepsi.’ He shared the good news via his Instagram page. He captioned the post – “3years with one of the biggest brands in the world, Pepsi! Looking forward to another 2 years! Done deal! $$ Proud Pepsi ambassador!! ”
For the last three years, Wizzy was worth about $350,000 in the Pepsi deal and now a renewal of the contract. No wonder the Jaiye Jaiye crooner could afford to replace his crashed N25 million Porsche Panamera last year with a brand new one just two weeks after the bash.

IYANYA – N125M
Iyanya has a N60 million MTN deal. Since he dropped Kukere, the Ibibio hiphop singer who won the maiden MTN Project Fame Contest in 2008, has made a lot of money from his jaw-dropping endorsement deals with top brands. His endorsement deal with MTN is worth N60 million and also has a $350,000 endorsement deal with Zinox Computers and a N35 million deal with a phone manufacturing company, Solo Mobile, where he also received a 2014 Prado SUV.

DON JAZZY- N100M
Don Jazzy has become the face of hiphop music in Nigeria, even making Forbes’ List as one of the richest artistes in Nigeria. The CEO of Mavin Records isn’t only making money from his star-studded record label, he also has very lucrative endorsement deals including one with Loya Milk where he got nothing less than N50 million. His N25 million deal with MTN has been renewed upwardly. Not much is known whether his endorsement with Samsung Africa has been renewed. So, his endorsement deal is in the region of N100 million.

BANKY W – N100M
R & B Singer Banky Wellington popularly known as Banky W is smiling to the banks with his whopping N100 million endorsement deal with Samsung Mobile as well as his endorsement with MTN.

TIWA SAVAGE – N90M
The singing bird and mother of one has an MTN deal worth N30 million and must have gotten it reviewed upwards.
Apart from her very successful music career, the first lady of Mavin Records also has a number of juicy endorsement deals worth several millions of naira. Her MTN deal is reportedly worth N30 million. Other endorsement deals include contracts with Pepsi, Forte Oil and Maggi which has made Tiwa the richest female singer in Nigeria.

OMAWUMI – N75M
The Bottom Belle crooner has a Glo deal worth more than N25 million. Omawumi shot into limelight after becoming the first runner up at the 2007 West African Idols. She is now one of the highest paid female artistes charging up to N5 million per show. She is also one of the singers with the highest number of endorsement deals. Glo deal is said to worth N25 million. Others include including Konga worth between N5–10 million, Mortein and Malta Guinness.

DAVIDO – N50M
HKN artiste, Davido has a N30 million MTN Pulse deal. The Gobe and Aye crooner has deals with MTN Pulse and Guinness Nigeria. While the Guinness deal’s amount is not known, his MTN contract is reported to have made the Omo Baba Olowo N30 million plus richer.
Considering that Davido has a billionaire father, he may not rely on endorsement deals except for a status symbol. The artiste however has done much good for himself by working hard to become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

OLAMIDE – N50M
The rapper has his contract with Etisalat renewed. He got a mouth-watering deal two years ago. Other deals are on line for the indigenous rapper who has created the niche and become a success story in Nigeria’s hiphop music industry.
The incredible rapper and now CEO of Chocolate City, MI and his VP, Ice Prince are also in the class of the biggest Nigerian artistes with great endorsements. MI is a Globacom ambassador while Ice Prince pitched his tent with Etisalat.

PoliticsNobody Has A Right To Pocket Public Money - VP Osinbajo by metronaija(op): 7:25pm On Aug 29, 2015
Press statement from the presidency

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN has declared that nobody has a right to pocket public money stating that corruption by its very nature is antithetical and inimical to the development of any nation. Prof. Osinbajo noted that everyone needs to uphold the virtues of truth and justice if the country must make progress in the anti-corruption campaign emphasizing that people should not give the anti-corruption fight any ethnic coloration in order to escape punishment.

He explained that ‘’when there is a fight against corruption, it is not an ethnic fight; it is not an ethnic battle. People can come up with all sorts of things and say it is selective. People say the reason why a man is being tried for corruption is because he is a Yoruba man, or he is from the North or from the South. We should not encourage this kind of ideas.’’ The Vice President disclosed this on Thursday, 27th August 2015 evening when he received in his office the delegation of the Yoruba Traditional Council in the Northern States and Abuja led by the Chairman, His Royal Highness, Ambassador Mohammed Arigbabuwo. Prof. Osinbajo observed that there is no country in the world that has become great through corruption noting that as a matter of fact ‘’the history of the world shows that corruption has ruined many empires.’’

‘’When those empires attain greatness and they begin to allow corruption, then they collapse’’, the Vice President noted. Stating the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to the fight corruption, Prof. Osinbajo said ‘’ President Muhammadu Buhari has committed this current government to a pathway of integrity. ‘’For the first time, I think in a very long time, the President is saying that this country can only move forward if we show ourselves as men and women of integrity’’, he noted.

The Vice President therefore sought the support of the traditional rulers in the crusade against corruption emphasizing that Nigerian cultures abhor corruption. While commending the representatives of the Yoruba communities from the Northern states for living peacefully with their hosts in their various communities, he implored them to imbibe the attributes of ‘‘Omoluabi’’ which he explains represents the positive virtues of forthrightness and integrity. [Omoluabi means a forthright, loyal and respectful person] He declared that ‘’ I think you have demonstrated clearly by living in the north, living in Abuja and making your home and businesses here, that you believe in this country.

That shows you believe in the unity of this country and I think that is very commendable.’’ In his own address at the occasion, the Chairman of the Yoruba Traditional Council in the Northern States and Abuja, who led the delegation commended the vision and philosophy behind the Change Agenda of the Buhari administration. While declaring the total support of his Council to the anti-corruption crusade, Ambassador Arigbabuwo acknowledged that the much desired change is already being felt.

‘’In the last three months, you will agree that many things have started taking positive shape for the people of this country such as constant electricity which has helped greatly to stabilize small scale and medium scale industries.’’

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appealed to Nigerians to come and join their party. The acting chairman of the opposition party, Prince Uche Secondus, made the appeal during the inauguration of the PDP E-Membership Registration Committee in Abuja yesterday

“This occasion is significant to us as a party because it is a dream come true. You will recall that the idea of having an electronic membership registration for our party has been in the works for so many years.
In furtherance to this desire, we had refuted a constitutional amendment as reflected in section 8(11) of the PDP constitution and in August 2010, the National Executive Committee approved the policy. I’m appealing to all Nigerians to come and join us. There is room for everybody. Journalists here are also free to join us and become our members.”he said

PoliticsI'm Not After EFCC Or It's Chairman - Saraki by metronaija(op): 7:18pm On Aug 26, 2015
Read statement issued by Saraki media office below:

The attention of the media office of the President of the Senate, Sen. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has been drawn to a publication alleging that the Senate President hired one Uboh to smear the integrity of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.

It is pertinent and with all sense of responsibility and commitment to state unequivocally that the story is far from the truth. A fabricated story that can not sell to dent the image of Senator Saraki.

The general public is fully aware that the said online platform which published the false story has been an agent of media attack on the person of the Senate President and that all allegations made by the online platform against the have fallen flat on their face as bare lies, concocted with malicious intention.

To set the record straight, no body can rightfully claim that Senator Saraki engaged the services of the petitioner or any other person for that matter. There are about four different petitions from individuals, groups and corporate organisations written against the EFCC and submitted to the Senate.

Most of these petitions are dated 27/07/2015 and 31/07/2015 while some bothers on issues between 2013, 2014 and 2015. There are petitions that are directly written and received by the Senate while in some, the petition was written to the President and the Senate were copied.

Further to the above, EFCC is not the only government agency that has petition against it pending before the before the Senate. There are pending petitions against the CG Custom, FIRS and NPA, amongst others. Is it also Senator Saraki that hired or engaged people to do this? What evidence does Sahara reporter have that links Senator Saraki to all these petitions before the Senate ?

The Senate President has no relationship whatsoever with Mr Uboh in any capacity or in the course of his emergence as Senate President. If anybody has any proof of a relationship between Senator Saraki and the said Mr. Uboh, let him or her say it now.

Our Investigation showed that Uboh's petition has been in public domain since 2013 and that the details has been reported in national newspapers as well as cited in court proceedings. The Senate President could not have said to have hired any one to write a petition for him as he has no issue to sort out with any individual, group of people or an organisation.

Therefore, any insinuation that Senator Saraki is attempting to prevent EFCC from carrying out its constitutional responsibility is a hoax and an imagination of the writer.

Let it be known that the idea of people using the media to intimidate or blackmail the Senate to prevent it from performing its constitutional and legislative duties will be resisted and as such, meet stiff opposition expressed through lawful means. Senator Saraki is not the same as the Senate or National Assembly as an institution. Imputing sentiment into the legitimate working of any government institution will not urgur well for our development and democratic process.
