wayodude:I know of that, but back then none of the critics could say his team's performance was bad, that match against Algeria happens, that was in 91, I said 93 which is the period I vaguely know of, in that 94 Afcon I remember asking my dad why it was only Nigeria that was passing the ball, I can't remember against which team exactly, such was the dominance and it started from late 92/early 93. Back then the media was against Westerhof not exactly 'every nigerian' like you put it, I know atleast all my elder siblings respect him totally, the media started that war against Westerhof probably because of some personal interest which I do not know, but that isn't even my point. Westerhof took a bunch of guys and had them playing so well that people started saying that any coach could perform wonders with those players, same thing people said about Pep in Barca until Tito and then Tata took over. But in Rohr's case, he has taken a young, talented team backwards, if we are at least performing well but the results aren't coming I may say ok, but bar the match away to Zambia and against Cameroon we haven't seen any extraordinary performance. Bottomline? Westerhof's team was so dominant that people thought anybody could do same with the set of players he had, Rohr's team is so bad that people are wondering if we wouldn't be better off with another person despite the results. Please and please, Rohr's case and that of Westerhof isn't related. |
Icon4s:Boss, learning curve after three years? At the World Cup your excuse was 'he is still building', now we are getting even worse and you have reversed to 'he is getting results', so after building for the past 3 years all he can manage to do is to 'get results'? By 1993 Westerhof's team was playing brilliant football, I remember asking Sia1 something about that and he told me that by 92 everybody already knew what to do, when you come to camp the coach will just perfect what you had already learnt, if after three years(with a proper tournament in between which affords coaches enough time to train their players) we are still playing without any identity then we haven't built anything. You do know that if Rohr gets sacked that a new coach will have to start from the scratch, because no good coach will adopt this playing method, what then have we built? Klinsman left Germany and Leow came in and continued the same pattern, in that case you can say Klinsman built something, this coach that took Argentina to the final of the 2014 WC left, Martino came in and continued his philosophy and Argentina almost won a Copa, sadly these have been three wasted years, yes we have made it to the WC and the AFCON but what will be the benefit in the long run? |
fabyom:I wanted to drop this but not anymore. Musa scored a perfectly legal goal against Iran which was cancelled, how come you didn't mention that he was unlucky against Iran? We totally outplayed Bosnia. In fact in 90 full minutes Bosnia created only three chances of note, Ameobi after coming on and even Babatunde and Uzoenyi had decent chances in that game, we were the better team on the day and if Bosnia had scored trust me we would have still scored again, you all are making it sound as if it was a Chelsea vs Barcelona match, we played good football and deserved our luck totally. Against Argentina we lost, Argentina eventually got to the final. Bosnia were the first team to qualify for the WC in Europe then with the highest goalscorer during the qualifiers, yet we didn't just beat them, we outplayed them, forget results for now, I would recommend you watch that match again or maybe the highlights before talking again. Now in 2018, the worst possible Argentine side that were sent to the cleaners by Croatia and yet we couldn't get a point off them. Aren't you also forgetting that Iceland missed a penalty? Isn't that also lucky? Croatia only won three games in regular time at the world cup, they were not better than Bosnia of 2014 yet we never even bothered them for 90 full minutes. See I don't like discrediting people, Rohr's team defeated Iceland and lost against the remaining teams. Keshi defeated Bosnia, drew against Iran and played well against Argentina, in fact I remember vividly that Mikel missed an easy header that would have dragged us level in that game, is that not bad luck? But at least we lost fighting. Then did you watch the match against France? Brilliant football. |

Icon4s:Chief, I am sure people still complained after that match against Libya, unlike some people here I pointed it out a long time ago. Let me ask you something, apart from that 4-0 win against Cameroon, which other game(under Rohr) have we been comprehensively better than the opposition? Most people have been looking for an opportunity like this( a game we failed to win) to come out and voice their disapproval but I already did that long ago. The goals we score are not even in anyway as a result of good tactical play or anything, I mean Kalu just raced to the byline and pulled a cross back and bam. Me sha no want talk too much, but even if Musa had scored, it wouldn't turn that match into anything special. |
A ref should not be this bad |
Catalyst4real:take am easy brother, he may still come up with the goods. Besides he stressed himself too much at the start of the game, pressing even the gk and at such a high altitude, you will gas out and that starts affecting your brain too. That said he is a WF playing AMF for us, I believe the coach will take him aside and tell him to forget the pressing, I mean we have two strikers for that. Something tells me we won't lose this game considering the arsenal we have on our bench, if and only if Rohr does not repeat that Croatia madness again |
KevinDein:Do you see how we pushed back into our box after scoring? Trust me if that first goal had been allowed, we wouldn't have scored again |
soetanoreoluwa:not the defence, our problem is the midfield. They are not keeping their shape and/or doing what they should |
Let me make my position clear. First of all, I am not sure I know what Iheanacho is doing in this game if Iwobi has to come and press the backline for him. Iwobi is not a controller, I already said it before. He seems to think he is a wing forward pressing the backline. Sit in the middle and slow the game down, we are winning. Our defence has not been properly screened at all. The discipline of the two DMFs are just awful, why was Ogu jogging back for that goal? Run man, run! Still on still, I hope Rohr's luck pays off again, because if not for an own goal we should be behind |
Nobody is talking again |
AIG07:I was called a hater for pointing this out. Our midfield already lacked pace and now it has even reduced further. So we have to first analyse how these guys will play, I don't know if you watched the game between Real Betis and Barcelona, Busquets was reduced to a ballbl boy, Betis moved through the side of the pitch that is what I think the South Africans will do, and if they do can Agu be the guy that will run around the entire midfield to win balls? We know Iwobi cannot control the game so this will be a fast paced game all through. Can Agu and Ogu cope with all that? It remains to be seen though, but for me I doubt we will win this game with this midfield we have now |
krattoss:You do understand that we have not defeated South Africa in our last 4 games not to mention that we are going into this particular match with practically no midfield and players most likely won't play to their full potentials escpeically those who are trying to stake a claim in their respective club sides. The sooner we understand that anything can happen in SA the better for us all |
Icon4s:I thought you meant they should focus on the Olympics. My bad then. |
andrew444:do you actually read posts before you comment. Now incase it was difficult for you to understand, I said if Oshimen and Chukwueze were invited then Odey deserves it because his club is on par or even better than Villareal B and Oshimen's club. Who is now talking about the players that played in the Europa league last season? |
andrew444:No offence, but I would advise you actually try to watch these matches before you start replying me next time. Vinicius has not scored for the main madrid team Sir. If you watched their match against Valladolid then you wouldn't have said what you just said. If you watched their match against Plzen then you would notice that he kept on spoiling attack after attack. You don't need 20hours to know a player that is struggling, you just need to watch him for a minute. Vinicius and Benzema do not even play the same role so there goes your knowledge about the player. |
Icon4s:So who and who will now be in the main team? When we come for to the Olympics team I think Orji Okonkwo(the one in Bologna) deserves a look in as well |
TheGoodJoe:Can you recall any dangerous free kick we for in the two matches against Libya? I don't know if the players do not fall there or the referees do not award the freekicks but we usually get at most one decent free kick opportunity in two games, that isn't enough to start a player because of his free kick ability. That is not to say that Nacho brings nothing other than that |
tbaba1234:Odey didn't have the luxury of learning in a proper football environment. I mean he developed here in Nigeria, was always going to struggle in his first season over there, but after just a season, just one he has taken the league by storm. Even Vinicius is finding it difficult in Madrid so an average first season is perfectly okay. However if you say Oshimen, Chukwueze and Odey are all not ready, who else do we have then that is performing? |
kellycute:I remember a player called Delap, he wasn't outstanding but he was always sure of a starting place for Stoke City because he was outstanding when it comes to throw-ins so no I disagree with that one, set pieces or anything for that matter that gives your team an added advantage is definitely vital in football. However, if we want to look at it this way, Stoke City then had a lot of tall players so they depended on those long throws and you could see them scoring goals from them. Do we as a team depend on pur set piece ability to score goals? When was the last time we scored from a set piece? In that case I don't think in our present setting it makes sense to play a particular player just because he is good in that aspect when we don't even utilise it at all. So you see? You are right by saying that set pieces are vital and anybody that can take care of them well enough should always have an added advantage over others. Then he too may not exactly be wrong considering we haven't exactly been scoring from them. Even if Iheanacho is playing, for some reason he is not usually the one who even takes the freekick |
kellycute:Oga, no vex eh. But what is up with you and Iheanacho? Like seriously I want to know |
BascoVanVeli:That's the same argument many here use against starting Omeruo who I believe should have even made the team of the league this past weekend, he was that good. |
Humility017:Oga! Oga! Oshimen is in which club again? Odey is starting for his team now in the Europa League against Bayern Leverkusen, do you think that is beans? Chukwueze just played his first match for Villarreal B, since he has been playing for the team B. Odey deserves it, his claim is reinforced by the fact that he has actually been performing for years now, he cannot force buyers to come, but he has scored everywhere he has played. I am not saying he must be invited but saying that he is playing at a low club when we invited Oshimen and Chukwueze is hypocritical |
Exactly why I believe the older Nwakali made the right choice moving to Poland. He will gain promotion with them and stake his claim in the team tbaba1234: |
Curtisaxel7:But she mentioned her name and theSuperNerd and we all know they are both serious fanboys so expect Iheanacho to win everything if both are in the committee. So she was just pointing out two names who will hardly include Iheanacho and two names who will definitely include Iheanacho to point out that a 3-man committee isn't going to be perfect. She could have mentioned any Goldfish or mickael2 or edi247(the supposed leaders of the hate club) but she mentioned the more frequent contributors which is psychologically explained as recency bias, I tire for your attacks oh. Me I would have voted for Mujtahida, but in his absence, definitely Joebie |
BascoVanVeli:No offence to Idowu but if he was born in Nigeria he would be warming serious bench for Kastina United. Idowu was in no way our best defender against Argentina, what was Omeruo doing then? Handing out gift cards?? I am telling you that Ikwuowem would at least give Idowu and Collins a good run for their money, will Adeleye give....Awaziem a good run for his money? That is our fourth choice CB by the way |
Kog45:Simple and short. If Ikwuowem goes to Europe and trains for a year, Collins won't be able to hold a candle to him. As at now the difference there isn't much difference |
BascoVanVeli:So all of a sudden you believe Idowu is a fantastic player now? Let me make this a little bit easier to understand. Ekong is a good player, Balogun is a fantastic player on his day, waiting for their opportunities are Omeruo(who I personally believe is a better defender them), Awaziem(who despite the hype I do not really think he is better than the first three but he has talent nonetheless) and Ajayi(one of the revelations of the Rotherham season). Now come over to the right side of the defence and we have Shehu, Ebuehi and Aina, all are solid players on their day. But on the left who do we have? Only one naturally left footed player in Collins who hasn't exactly shown what he is made of against decent opposition, or should we continue to make do with Idowu who has been poor for God knows how long? Like I said, Ikwuowem should have been invited as a legitimate contestant for that LB spot, who says he cannot improve defensively? |
BascoVanVeli:OK tell me why we have invited another CB when we have pressing issues at LB and we have home based lads who can at least audition for that role against Uganda. How many games did FCIU play in the AITEO cup? Rohr likes the defender? I guess that is why he invited him to come and collect his own match bonus. Do not get me wrong he is free to invite whoever he wants to invite, but Awaziem is going back to Nantes in January, that is almost certain and by then will Adeleye still be making the team? If Enyimba's Ikwuowem comes in and plays a good game is there anyone coming back anytime soon to drop him to the bench? He will be the much needed backup, for me that was a wasted slot |
Earthquake1:That is the entire problem. Why invite a player that cannot compete with what we have? We have other players that can come in and keep the present players on their toes but he invites someone we already know isn't going to make the match day squad or even the Uganda friendly |
BascoVanVeli:Take away that final. Kano Pillars had a good defence against Kastina United, yes they conceded at some point IIRC but they were good. So why not pick a player from Enyimba? OK you already have four other CBs and only two will play, why invite another CB when the whole nation had been clamouring for Ikwuowem? So that tomorrow you can come and back and tell us that this is the reason why local lads shouldn't be invited. Forget the talk, when you realize that Ikechukwu Ezenwa is from FCIU you will understand the entire story By the way Kunle Odunlami was our best defender in that same CHAN once upon a time or was it WAFU cup. My point is judge players on how consistent they are, not just a run of five matches and based on consistency, he shouldn't be there |
Earthquake1:So of all the players playing for Rangers, Kano Pillars, Enyimba even Kastina united na second best CB for FCIU he come see? |
