Dedebanky85: The best news I've heard today is the sacking of Shakespear. I need a coach that would deploy Mahrez as their 10 cos he seems to be the only person that can pass. Play Okazaki (Musa), Vardy and Iheanacho upfront. There would be flair in this team. Enough of all this Albrighton, and English boys that cannot be technical to save their lives. Demaray Gray should also see a lot of game time with the new coach. I just pray Iheanacho answers the new coach with a brace on his debut. Vardy, Okazaki and Nacho upfront? Which formation is that? |

kennysville: Different strokes for different folks. Its how you see it and I will have to respect that. Time will tell. As far as I know, with the way things are, Leicester needs a new coach as well as a playmaker. If that is not there, then they beta be ready to have 20 drawn games and the rest lost. On deBruyne, that dude is the reason city is thriving because of his final balls. Someone that gave all the assists for city to put 7 past Stoke is the threat. Neutralize the threat and we see if they can score as high as they did. Thats why I said half the problem is solved this talk about sacking Shake-something won't happen. The board understands that they are not a small team anymore so they can't counterattack all 19teams they face, they need another plan for smaller teams which is why Iborra was bought along with Nacho so this is a long term project for them and unfortunately I think it will take Nacho atleast 4 seasons to perfect this strategy with complete preseasons. But that is Leicester's business. My business is this World Cup coming up in less than 8months, |

Joebie: TURKEY: Super Lig - Round 8
Bursaspor 3-1 Osmanlispor Super Eagles defensive midfielder, Mikel Agu shown like stars after scoring his first Super Lig goal and also helping Bursaspor with an assist in their home win. Agu's assist came in the 30th minute, when he planted a header off a corner kick for Romanian striker, Bodgan Stancu to finish. He scored a goal of his own 8 minutes later, after he placed a left footer past Osmanlispor defense and goalie. Agu's all round performance operating as CMF/AM in the homers 5-3-2 formation earned him a joint best top dribbler (3), best tackler (6), and a whoscored MOTM recognition. +Stats Rating : 9.25 (in the running to make Super Lig Best XI of the Week) Super Eagles defense trojan, William Troost-Ekong, also had a hand in their home win, clocking 90 minutes in the heart of their 5-man defense. +Stats Rating : 6.59
Dream Team VI and forgotten Super Eagles forward, Aminu Umar, started and lasted the entire encounter for the opposing side at the left-wing in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Aminu was the 5th best passer of the encounter, with a 90 percent success rate. It was all-tie in Top 5 for Aerial Duels won (2), with Aminu also making the cut. The 22 year old also got statistical recognition as the 3rd joint best in successful tackles (4). +Stats Rating : 6.56 Osmanlispor DMF, Raheem Lawal, made the top 5 for percentage possession (6.2;5th), tackles (4; joint 3rd), and dispossession (2; joint 4th). +Stats Rating : 6.84
Kasimpasa 2-3 Sivasspor Super Eagles standby defender, Kenneth Omeruo, started and completed the encounter as a Kasimpasa Center-Back. The 24 year old was the best of the match in terms of Aerial Duels won (5). However, his aerial prowess was not good enough as he could not help prevent the homers from conceding thrice. +Stats Rating : 6.81
Elderson Echiejile (Sivasspor) was not listed for the encounter due to the injury he picked up during the international break. +Stats Rating : N/A
Trabzonspor 1-6 Akhisar With Eddy Onazi out, Trabz lost heavily at home to Akhisar +Stats Rating : N/A
Fenerbahce 3-1 Yeni Sincere Seth made his Super Lig debut for Yeni, in their away loss to Fenerbahce. Seth, playing at Right-Back, didnt have a debut to remember as he had the lowest rating of the encounter. However, he was not subbed off from start to finish. +Stats Rating : 5.8 Teammate Azubuike Okechukwu was not listed on matchday, due to an undisclosed injury. +Stats Rating : N/A so Omeruo actually got a higher rating than Ekong? So much for a finished player. Oh and Bursaspor's formation was more like a 3-4-3 with Agu as the CMF. They attacked very well |

kennysville: Iheanacho is not exactly gonna take the ball from the goal keeper and still find time to pass to himself to score. Its one thing or the other. It cant be both. At the start of the second half he did drop deep. But leicester team is not a team well drilled in the art of progressive attack. They lack a play maker. And that is where ManCity is thriving now. Take out DeBruyne and you will see that half your problem of facing city is solved. I cant ever recall a time in the game when Ndidi made a through pass with the aim of pickin out Iheanacho. His passes were all sideways. So are you trying to change his role from an SS to a 10?
That is where objectivity comes in. All i saw Iheanacho do yesterday was make runs with no one in particular picking him out. Leicester didnt look like a team that had a 10. And if they think they had and are referring to Mahrez as the 10, then they are deluded. I would av expected a solid bond between vardy, mahrez and iheanacho. But it was almost like each one playin for himself. Thats why I said Vardy, all pace , no brain. He has the energy and the grit but not channelling it wis If you check my posts, I am not one of those that sing Iheanacho's praises. I analyse and I say what i saw just the way it is. Let us understand that the dude just had his second start and is just coming back from injury. What I see working for shakespeare is his blatant kick and follow soccer which at best earns him a draw. You will agree with me that this is not the same Leicester team under Ranieri. Running down Iheanacho just so as to prove ur earlier assertions or assessments of him in your previous discourses with other people is a bit With the way leicester is set up, Iheanacho needs our prayers! read carefully the bold parts and tell me if you are not saying what I said, the only problem is you are not saying it entirely. First we have to understand the Leicester system. Under Ranieri they played kick and follow soccer, sit deep, absorb pressure then attack, Ranieri bought players that could make that system work, players that can strike the ball over a long distance and still find their target and such a system requires a point man and not a playmaker. The Leicester system has never had a true playmaker, under Ranieri Mahrez was a pseudo-10, operating almost exclusively from the wings and rarely behind the striker. Ranieri understood the strength of his players and bought players that suit his style(Musa is a speedster for counter attacks, Slimani is an old-fashed 9, a true focal point) and Leicester thrived, nobody noticed the lack of a true playmaker and they didn't have to. In comes Shake-something and he decides he wants to play attractive football, 25million is splashed and in comes Nacho, a support striker turned 9 with good playmaking skills and excellent build-up participation, the coach wants to turn Mahrez into a playmaker overnight? No. Then does the coach expect Iheanacho to collect from the Gk and score? No. The idea is for Iheanacho to be the focal point, drop into midfield, exchange passes with midfielders, set off Vardy or collect the ball, play one-two with Vardy and create something, it was blatantly clear yesterday that they all wanted to bring Iheanacho into the game what choice do they have? Okazaki who is considerably shorter has more aerial presence than Nacho so do you lob passes towards him against a 6'4 defender? Or do you send him a ball over the top to chase? He doesn't have pace. So whenever Iheanacho is in the game, the players have to start playing short ground passes, no Leicester player is known for defence splitting passes(yes not even Ndidi) so you expect them to do something they don't know how to? No, all they can do is make safe passes and wait for Iheanacho to come and collect the ball since he is the SS that is his job and Iheanacho failed in that aspect yesterday. When Slimani came in everything changed, they could have subbed in Slimani alone and they'd still score because all the Leicester players can find a target man using aerial balls and that was why the game got better for them. The problem here is that Nacho cannot be that point man and the other players cannot turn into Barcelona players overnight, theyare counter-attackers not possession-oriented players. Take out DeBruyne and you don't know your problem. Your real problem is David Silva, maybe because he doesnt score golazos but he is the real playmaker there. But that is City's system and except you purchase 3 playmakers Leicester can never play like this. Nacho made the wrong choice, but the time for blaming the Leicester system is over, he needs to adapt and he has spent 4months there and stop giving me that injury crap. I did not run down Nacho, I merely pointed out that he had a bad game but then you said Vardy is not an intelligent player, so who needs that advice more? |

EmmGee: when nacho was in. The whole team were terrible in possession. It was like they didn't know what to do. Then the coach made a tactical change by introducing a crosser and a header.
The team then had a plan in mind. And it was the substitutes that did exactly what they were brought on for.
Lester a too conservative and if nacho should thrive, he must alter his game pattern and learn to drop deep to collect the ball and burst forward. there were about two situations where he did that. |

Did they place a gun on his head? He watched the team, he saw their pattern, he studied their system and decided that he could handle the business for them, 25million was splashed and he was brought him, now he is making the team look worse whenever he plays(admittedly they look bad naturally) and yet after four months(?) we are still blaming the Leicester system instead of pointing out his inability to adapt, I just concentrated on the guy today to know where the problem was coming from and here I have to allude to theGoodJoe's school of thought, the boy learnt nothing from Pep at Mancity, he should have remained there. His build-up play, which should have been perfected by Pep, is actually getting worse |

Kog45: The man said it all, our developmental plans have been d issue, truly talents abound in Nigeria but who to discover them.
The secondary schools game is dead,Principal cup gone,YSFON collapsed, NIPOGA game no more attention, NUGA game d same thing, these are d games that produced players for our various national teams.
How can we revive all these is left for various sporting federation to put their house in order and put a great mechanism in place to salvage d situations coz it has reached a stage we just have to do something about it.
Apart from football or may be basketball that are still trying to put smiles on d faces of sports fans, other games brings nothing,d worst of it all is d athletics.
This is a game that has produced great athletes like Dele Udoh,Ahmed Adio,Chidi Imoh,Innocent Egbunike,Mary Onyali,Falilat Ogunkoya,Olapade Adenikan,Ezenwa brothers,Chioma Ajunwa but can we say now, mediocre running for Nigeria.
Football still a force to reckon with coz d talents are abound not that we get it right through fundamentals plans and we should thanks d individuals football academies that spring up to fill d gap created by non functional football federation grassroots plans.
Onigbinde said do we need to beg any foreign born players to play for us?definitely NO but in d absence of good foundation what do we do?we just need to beg.I know d man was referring to Tammy Abraham situation.
The man said just few minutes he was able to discover Enyeama.I remember i had a lengthy discussion with my former university coach in person of Amusa Adisa who happened to be goalkeeper trainer to 2002 WC.
I asked him what gave u that confidence to pick Enyeama ahead of Shorunmu against England, he said when u see a talent irrespective of experience u don't care,he said prior to WC Enyeama had only one cap in a grade b friendly.
I asked why can't we discovered more Enyeama and he said most of our grassroots games are no longer functioning and it w take a miracle to see a special players for national team and our coaches are not helping d situation.
Honestly there are a lot of talents wasting away coz nobody to see them, those saddle with d responsibilities are not doing enough. Thanks for football academies that came to d rescued.
i remember i how i try to convince Ex polish international Emma Olisadebe after our VC cup in d university,I went to him and told him point blank that did u know u are better than KANU Nwankwo,he looked at me and said u are not serious, again during Governor Cup that my school participated, during this match we beat a very solid team 6-1 and he scored 5 goals. The fans in d stadium were surprised to see such talent in d university. The two local league club try to sign him but refused.
Luckily for him he made world university game team and put shooting star Edith Agoye permanently on d bench. It was Fanny Amu that later told him point blank that u are wasting your talent. The rest is history d same Olisadebe later represent Poland in d WC after Nigeria refused to call him.He single handedly took Poland to 2002 WC,had a goal against USA.
To buttress Onigbinde points, talents abound in sec sch, polytechnics, universities and there is need we revive our youth games like Principal cup,YSFON,focus on NIPOGA,NUGA,these are d only way we can save our sports.
I remember my secondary school represented Nigeria in Sweden in handball game and same thing we represent Nigeria in Canada, this was in 80s,so why are we finding it difficult to do d same thing now. precisely correct, all those secondary school football tourneys are dead and buried. It is only in Nigeria that such happens, in 2008 I think, we were preparing for the NNPC games, the coach said that they check weight, 60kg maximum(so a kid who is muscular is already out of the games), I was 65 at first but after running up to 5km every morning for two weeks, even Mark Henry would slim down. Then the actual football came, private school, we were all very tall with long limbs, as at then I was 1.85 but was it my fault that my gene is a tall one? But they came and told us that the height limit was 1.67(?) or something even more ridiculous than that. Back then football was still not a big thing and the only means of development was through such secondary school football tourneys, but in a situation where you remove a kid just because he/she is too tall or too muscular does not make sense and academies in Nigeria aint helping out, they only develop the football skills of the kids but education wise they do nothing and they don't even give you enough time to read your books or attend classes elsewhere. Grassroot football is dead, it died a long time ago. Our academies are not well equiped to train future stars, some of them are hardly educated, how will they understand coaches and highly technical terms? |

Mujtahida: Thank you. Load your Canon, Aim, Fire! On a more serious note, I say it's still early days to start making such comparisons between Rohr and Siasia and I can see that you have deftly avoided lauding Rohr whether in his 'now famed' man management style or tactical ability but you are focusing on Siasia because the track record is there. Rohr needs a run of time too before we can settle this issue.
I know something about words:you repeat them often and then it sticks and sometimes passes as reality until it is examined. That's what they are doing now: he's not tactical, he's not tactical, he's not tactical and before long that notion becomes fixed. I repeat even with seven wins (five for the WCQ qualifiers, two friendlies) two draws and one defeat over a period of one year is in my estimation still too early to start making comparisons. I will drop this argument until we play our next game without Mikel and/or Moses then we will start it again. If not for our FIFA ranking, I would start praying for Moses and Mikel to sit out that match against Algeria just so that we will watch the game together |

goldfish80: First of all, you have to appreciate the fact that the last Olympics was of a very low standard, no thanks to club's refusal to release players. I honestly think football should be scrapped from the Olympics if what was witnessed at the last tournament was anything to go by.
Honduras getting to the Semi final was a reflection of how shiit the tournament was really....
In a tournament of top quality, you cannot go straight from the plane to the match venue and escape unpunished.
Now coming to tactics, Siasia was totally exposed when he came up against a decent Colombia and German team. We lost those two games! Stay with me, against Germany. It was very obvious he had little or no background check on the German team. The balance of play reflected this. The German boys ran rings around us and tore us to pieces. We lost that game the way we did because the team was badly set up. It was one of the most one sided semi final game I have ever witnessed.
To top it all, he even made a caricature of the team selection by taking a dwarf to the tournament. Lol ok so all the other teams from the Afcon olympic qualifiers were all bad except Germany and Colombia because we lost to both, isn't that a biased judgement? Actually I guess you have not been following North American football but Honduras just qualified for the world cup playoffs ahead of USA with largely the same set of players at the Olympics, some shiity team right? Now you are trying to run down the quality of the last Olympics, I expected that anyways but you can only defeat what you have infront of you right? And Siasia did that, is he to be blamed for the 'supposed' lack of quality? Bias how that semifinal against Germany was so one-sided sure beats me when we got atleast 5 very good chances to score, maybe you need to watch the game again no? Atleast we can agree now that Siasia took us to the Rio Olympics without preparing or Kalika and still came back with a bronze medal, we are making progress |

Certitude: Na wetin I still dey yarn...To you, playing beautifully is being tactical...That match against Guinea was bullcrap...Keshi played well against Spain, Argentina and France but lost...Y'all came out to confirm how tactically inept he was and how he has been lucky all this while...What were the matches Siasia won in Olympic again self..He never won any good side. I am not sure anyone has ever questioned Keshi's tactical prowess, his team selection yes, but not his tactical ability. A tactically sound manager is one that can devise a feasible and effective formation no matter the players he has. The only game that has truly tested Rohr's tactical ability was the game against SA and he failed. Hopefully Mikel and VicMo won't play against Algeria then we will see how far we have gone. Siasia on the contrary has excelled in similar conditions. Rohr is the better manager all round but better tactician? Not even close |
