Joebie: some of us will be psyching these Spaniards etc oh and making our beloved SE players tremble, typing all this on Nairaland lol
Anyways my bro. Let me ask everyone, when was the last time we saw SE display such masterclass as a team? when? when o? I have a few off the top of my head. A 4-1 mauling of the Malians who later defeated Ghana. 3-0 against Mozambique at the....2010? Afcon, they held us to a draw a few months before. The 3-1 humbling of Argentina. Oh and I can't forget the 2-1 defeat of Ivory Coast, the scores suggest a close game but the only shot/goal Ivory Coast had was from a Didier Drogba dive |

freshest4live: You just want to criticize my guy, it's your right though, criticism is good, you speak as though we haven't played the likes of Spain, Argentina or ltaly before. Before now, l remember the hype of Basagog and the belief that he would skin our full backs alive, lol. The fact is we are not there yet, but you sir revel in this unnecessary overhype of opponents which many plastic fans are prone to. I never, never hyped the camoorians. Of course I said Bassagog would eat Echejile, he did but Balogun came to our rescue but I never hyped them. We have played Spain and Argentina recently, both ended in defeats |

TheGoodJoe: Where was Busquets when Mikel performed well against Spain? He forgot to reduce Mikel's effect in that game. Busquets was Looking so much I thought he was Lucozade. that was why we scored 4 goals in that game, oh wait, we didn't. How many shots on target? Oh wait, none. I must mention one great chance that one northerner like that missed, apart from that the highlight of Mikel's match in that game was a driving run through the middle. Since Mikel didn't create any good chance doesn't that mean the DMF did his work? |

TheGoodJoe: I wonder how you keep going on about no team work. Balogun and Victor Moses teamed up to support Echiejile on the left side of the attack. Is that not a perfect example of team work in the match? In the midfield, Ndidi and Mikel combined through out the game to give Onazi room to make darting runs.
It was a nice team performance with a well-planned strategy. you see the points you made have one thing in common, all these aren't what I am saying. Moses started out on the right, he switched to the left to help Echejile I know all that, ok maybe the point isn't teamwork exactly that I should call it.....ehm what do you call a situation where all your attacks are emanating from one side or one person? One dimensional? Then that's my point. Every single attacking move had one thing in common, Mikeloses. Moses Simon generated ZERO attack and apart from one nice play in the first half Ndidi was dormant too, Onazi generated one attack that led to a goal as well and our fullbacks generated NONE. That's the point I am making, shut down Mikeloses and our attack is buried. In defence, overload Echejile's wing and Balogun may not survive it, we will never know if Ekong can cover for Balogun because the cameroonians never utilised the oppurtunity. So maybe it isn't teamwork so to say, kinda one dimensional, too one-dimensional for a great team |

tbaba1234: How exactly?
1. Goal number 2: rehearsed set piece..
2. Goal number 3: Classic counter
3. Goal number 4: Excellent team goal
That win had a lot to do win team work first of all, you think winning a game is only about the goals? Glad you counted out the first goal though. Ok....goal number three was created and finished by Moses, that was literally a one-man counter attack, no team play there at all. Simon almost spoilt the groove. Goal number 4 came because they were already down, if you know your psychology you would know that the goal was more about them than us, that doesn't take anything away from the sweet play though. The second goal is the only serious claim you have. But tell me again how that corner came about. Who created the chance for Moses Simon? |

Joebie: Individual brilliance and minimal team work? Hmm... Lets both watch the Uyo match again. i just did and I think that what I said was an understatement. If we play like that against Spain they'd have us for breakfast everyday of the week and twice on sundays, not to mention Germany and Brazil. The defeciencies in that game were quite open, and I will be using instances too. From defence: if Isco drifts into Echejile's wing(even if Echejile is there he will still beat him silly, no brainer really) and has enough space to operate that will draw Balogun out of his wings like he did a lot of times(this should actually be Onazi's role but Balogun was doing it, nice against Cameroon but deadly against top teams) that creates a Spanish over-load in the middle and we all know Isco's decision making is top-notch, a quick pass into the middle(if he doesn't fancy his chances against Balogun one-on-one anyways, just ask the Italians) and they will surely create a chance, Enyeama can only do so much. This is the defence first of all. Midfield: the spaces left by Onazi continously was an eyesore. Against Spain, we can count that as two assists for Iniesta wrapped in a gift bag and delivered promptly. Just drift in, receive a pass and do the damage, the worse part is that Onazi when he sees that he is out of position will come driving in, at the end there will be two players marking one player(Iniesta) and what does that mean? Another guy is free, creating more space and you can believe that Iniesta will pick that pass with perfection. This is how the midfield battle is won. With Mikel as our Amf and Busquets(probably the best DMF in the world or top 2 at least) holding him off trust me Mikel's impact will be reduced markedly, of course Mikel's brilliance may shine through once in a while but Busq gets the upper hand 90% of the time, now what happens when Mikel actually gets the upper hand? Read on do you fancy Ideye's chances against Spain? I do not. Iheanacho stands a better chance. But then you are talking about two of the best CBs in the game against a young lad who is yet to cut it at club level, now that is not a great sight to behold. Now all they need to do is isolate Iheanacho from Moses and Moses will start trying to beat all the four defenders plus GK, result? No shot close to goal and when Moses is having a bad day our attack is too. The defeciencies in our game like I said were clear, claiming that we stand a chance against Spain(Spain are vastly inferior to Germany or Brazil) is pure fantasy. Trust me the performance that Siaone's team gave against Argentina was actually better than this performance by far, that too against vastly superior opponent. Our best bet is to pray we follow Ghana's path, I fancy our chances against Uruguay and other mid-level teams but top teams? We don't have the players, the technical ability, the coach or even the facilities to attempt it |

Joebie: Should your dreams come true, It would only make us stronger. Any better performance than that Cameroon show in Uyo can trouble any team in the world. That performance should be our standard from now on with that performance against Cameroon, we would be 2 goals down against Brazil, atleast a goal down against Spain and 4 goals down against Germany after 20minutes. Make no mistake about it, that game was won by individual brilliance, a repeat of that performance(exactly that performance) against Belgium will be a white-wash no offence |

TheSuperNerd: Excellently said... that is it. A ball holder under pressure.... Honestly.... I think Iwobi being young can still grow into that kind of player... he got the potentials but right now he is not there.
Joel can come close.... he is kinder similar to Mikel and even struck up a bright partnership with him when they played a few times together... it was very short.
Ajagun well.... he is a good ball holder too.
None of them have got the Super experience and Class Mikel possesses in his role but at least we can have them as solid backups... while we groom a player of Nwakali's quality for the long term future... I see the same swag, class and confidence of Mikel's plays in Nwakali but he needs to step up first a bit more and prove himself worthy in the dutch topflight. what about his elder brother sef, I mean chidiebere and Yahaya. they used to be CMFs am I right? that's the problem with developing these players outside Nigeria, these clubs can just.change their position when they want. I heard Kelechi now plays as a winger, Yahaya as a fullback, just ruining our potentials all around |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 12:06pm On Sep 05, 2017 |
TheSuperNerd: Iwobi is another who can step into Mikel's role... he is a good ball holder and orchestrator too. Defensively, he is still improving. Kelechi Nwakali is for the future.... he needs this first full season in the dutch eredivisie to build more on his game and potentials but he remains a long term quality solution but not one to be considered outrightly right now.
Ajagun, Joel Obi (if his injury wahala is over), And even Raheem Lawal (played some games under Keshi) should be looked into also.... this Mikel void is very important to fill. Even John Ogu is not a long term solution to the Mikel Void as he isn't one to orchestrate plays much despite his ability to keep possession but I would have preferred he came in for Mikel than a destroyer-like DMF with limited passing range like Agu... I doubt any of these players can do what mikel does. It's not just about being creative, you can see sometimes that Mikel just slows the ball down to a halt so that everybody can cool down and the opposing team will lose steam, Iwobi for sure cannot do this he doesn't have the stamina to do that. it's not about who can pass the ball quicker but who can hold the ball when there is too much pressure, that's what we are missing without Mikel |

Kog45: True talk but kudos to d boys for d draw.Honestly u have a valid point,Mikel out midfield collapsed, but d big question why always Agu and not Ogu,we need another young midfielder in d class of Mikel or even better who can carry d responsibility in case Mikel is sub or not available, how i wish Alex Iwobi can fit in
On Ndidi and Onazi, pls what do u suggest coz it seems u are not comfortable with d two, meaning one should sit out. It's left for Rohr to decide but i believe before world cup things w take shape.
How do u see our keeper today, honestly in d absence of Ikeme we need Enyeama back ASAP, Akpeyi and Ezenwa belong to d same class and Rohr should stop toy with goalkeeping dept coz bad goalkeeping can destroy any teams.Akpeyi and Ezenwa are not world cup material.
Pls what can u say about Echiejele, honestly w should call a spade a spade, there is need to replace Echiejele and find good replacement, d guy is not getting it and some time i keep on wondering what is really wrong with him.I remember Keshi was forced to drop him during 2015 Acon qualifier,he was one of d player that failed Keshi woefully, apart from Algeria match d guy have been woeful.
I got your point d team need good chemistry to tame a very good opposition which must be source of worry for those who knows d game but i hope after sailing through w get our act together in a perfect way.
The selection or invitation should be broaden coz i don't see why player like Ogu would be invited but sat on d bench or not even making d squad and player like Agu w make it.Our bench need to be strong with player that can come in and show d difference just like US 94 squad.Watching Balogun, something tells can Awaziem do d same?this is world cup no need for sentiments, d best should be on d bench for d best.
Pls what can u say on Nwakaeme and Aron Samuel invitation and player like Kayode was left out, though Rohr said he doubt Kayode fitness due to pre season but it is glaring Kayode deserve to be in this squad. I think we are starting to agree on a lot of things. First I think we can manage Onazi-Ndidi only when Mikel is playing. But when Mikel is subbed we need to look for a lasting solution, maybe Iwobi but I don't see Iwobi as a bench piece and Iwobi too cannot last for more than 70minutes so we can't say that he will come into the middle when Mikel leaves, Ogu is the only person on our bench who I THINK can hold his own. Agu is not the main deal at all. The less said about Echejile the better. If Shehu can play with his left leg then I would say goodbye to him. Azpi is right footed but he used to be a leftback, so that wouldn't be new. Our keeper, I thought he was ok, until I watched that match again. That ball they almost scored was a very cheap shot which he should be saving all day long but somehow the ball rolled under him, we were just like that his body atleast deflected it away from the goal. And he did drop one or two crosses, and with Enyeama coming back into the fold and Nwokolo getting a look-in, I think he is too old to be the third choice at the world cup and he isn't exactly a good gk so I will take Alampasu. Our next game is next month though, I doubt Enyeama will be back so he will stay for now. Honestly I don't know why Samuel and Nwakeme were invited if the coach doesn't think they were good enough to play any part in two games. That is pure sentiments when you consider that Onyekuru and Kayode were the ones left out. Moses Simon gassed, both of them could have replaced him and it would have been an upgrade but the coach didn't invite, the senseless invitations need to stop, invite only those that will participate. Until this point Nigerians don't know what Ogu can bring to the team, if the coach doesn't think he is good enough to challenge the starters then invite other people there to come and challenge, we have Joel Obi, Azubuike, Ajagun and even Lawal all waiting for their chance. |

Oasis007: We were really poor in the Midfield to be candid. I can't blame Mikel though, he's unfit but still have his Best.
The best Players on the Field are Shehu, Ekong, Balogun and Ezenwa. Ezenwa dealt well with Set-pieces and aerial Challenges. Ekong and Balogun Combo was solid. Shehu was able to neutralize the Thread on his Part.
I was expecting Rohr to sub in Ogu, he's physical and couldn't have helped. But all is all.... we should celebrate the Point. wait, in ten minutes you will see some people that watch the back of their tv showing up to condemn Shehu. For me the boy was the best player, I don't think he put a foot wrong. But whenever we bring up our RB, people tend to forget that the guy exists, if Aina and Shehu are in the same club, Shehu will give him a run for his money and I would start Shehu personally, he is more balanced defensively, I am not sure he got beaten once |

I love Victor Moses but he needs to understand that soccer is a team sport. I don't think he made more then 5 passes today. If you are going to be the engine room/heart of the team, then your main job is to distribute the fucking ball, not win the game by yourself. We would have put this game to bed with like 3 goals before that inexperience hesitation play by the keeper that caused us the penalty, lastly after Moses Simon's goal, where the hell did he and Ndidi go to ? We should be happy we get a Point out of the Match. It worth celebrating! Ezenwa is ready, he has proven it and if the Coaches trust him, he earned it. me i wonder what their perfect performance is. I think we have a serious serious problem going forward. It is dangerous for a team to fall apart whenever a particular star player gets subbed out or injured. This same thing is the reason why we lost at the 1994 world cup, the same reason we lost out to France for me. This Mikel-dependencia is a serious serious problem, Onazi-Ndidi does not work without Mikel, Ogu for me should have subbed in earlier, just like Mikel he isn't quick but he is calm in possession, these are the things we need. Forget Mikel Agu for now, he should not be coming in for Mikel at any time at all |

goldfish80: Thanks for the reply. I had to ask because I followed the case of Stylian Petrov. He never returned to football after his diagnosis. I am guessing his own severely affected his platelets, you can't play football like that, atleast the doctors will advice you not to. Take this for instance, if you fall down you will see a red dot on your skin, that is actually minor internal injury, if your platelets are defaultive that means the complex combo of fibrinogen and thromboplast won't occur and that means incessant blood loss and that means death, death from a minor red dot on your skin, is that worth the risk? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 9:22pm On Sep 03, 2017 |
TheSuperNerd: Okay First of all... Leukemia is a kind of cancer. A cancer of the blood where the white blood cells are mainly affected including the bone marrow. The anormaly is that the white blood cells are produced in large quantities and most if not all fail to mature and this disrupts the balanced ratio of red blood cells (responsible for Oxygen carriage) to White blood cells (responsible for fighting infections).
When this happens and infections and pathogens do invade the body, these immature WBCs cannot fight back. And when these leukemic WBCs accumulate beyond the normal, it interferes with Vitally precious organ amd system functions/physiology.
It affects red blood cells production meaning oxygen carriage will be threatened big time. And also platelets formation will start reducing and without platelets there will be no clotting of wounds and bruises.
So a leukemic person becomes vulnerable on the outside to any bodily harm such as bruises, internal or external harms such as bleeding and even more infections.
So that is a start... yes it is terrible but medical science has made it possible for Leukemia to be beaten.
And additionally like I told Mujtahida... it is acute Leukemia... not chronic. What I am not yet sure of is whether it is Acute Myeloid or Acute Lymphoblastic... but whatever the case his chances are quite good. He should only remian positive and so far he is doing a good job of it. I would assume you are just giving him a background knowledge so I won't take up anything from here. However the main casualty here are the platelets, this is so because he is a sport man and they go get minor bruises. I have seen patients with red blood cell deficieny but they still survive well because blood can still dissolve oxygen, so that's apart. Lack of white blood cells is quite similar to what HIV does, and people survive with HIV, so that one is not the main problem. Stimulating his blood and marrows to produce platelets yet again is going to take more than 9months at least so all these talk about world cup seems highly unlikely, let's pray he manages to make it out of the hospital for now |

Because when first I heard about Ikeme's situation, I felt his career was finished. they said it's acute leukamia, well it depends primarily on his blood group and how strong he is(his heart specifically), no need going deep, the report has it that Ikeme is a strong guy(I am guessing the strong guy means his heart and blood group makes sense) so he may play again, after more than a year of theraphy, I think he might even need a serious dose of psychotheraphy after that 1 year, making it to the world cup? 40% likely |

I am not comparing them to doctors and nobody told us never to drink oooh, abeg some do but when you have a function you don't. even Pep used to task his barca players not to have anything to do with women two days to every game and all through pre-season sometimes and we all know how professional his teams can be, I think that's the target. Wetin concern me though, till tomorrow |
