I completely disagreement with this argument. Firstly, I am sure most Nigerians will be happy to pay for electricity of they have quality electricity with affordable tariffs. The current electrical infrastructure is inefficient and inadequate which means high operational cost... Nigerians needs to generate large scale electricity via either solar or nuclear and watch the cost come down. |
Why do we need foreigners to install and design 15MVA transformers. Are we that primitive? I'll understand 132kV - 400kV but 33kV? This is even more embarrassing considering Nigeria transmission/distribution network has very basic protection system and there's no strict regulation on customer minute loss. |
This guy is being nuked by Efcc. Anyways, considering how sloppy EFCC have managed previous case I.e Yahaya hello I am not sure they'll make thr charges stick |
I am worried about diabetes for whoever ate that food. The sugar to garri ratio looks unbalanced |
Goodnewsforlife:Okay this conversation is going no where, but I am not surprised. @seun I remember myself and few others warning you about the degrading quality of discussions as far back as 2007, yet nothing have changed. You need to revamp the forum to appeal to more intellectuals. |
Goodnewsforlife:Makes no difference to me as he is not the president. Tinubu is the president and should deal swiftly with IPOB should they prove to be a nuisance. IPOB will be at the bottom of my priority if I was the president (due to limited respurces) as they are no where as deadly as boko haram and fulani herdsmen. |
Goodnewsforlife:https://dailypost.ng/2022/10/24/peter-obi-opens-up-on-awkuzu-sars-killings/ See what he said about the killings. You clearly have a vendetta against him and that's fair, but let's us all direct our anger at the federal government. What happened in Plateau shouldn't be happening at all. |
Goodnewsforlife:Any killing perpetrated by either IPOB or boko haram should all be condemn. However, my concern is your fixation on Igbos/ipob more than the crime going on all over the country. Obi is not the president so your critism should be directed more towards Tinubu who has so far been disappointing. |
Goodnewsforlife:I don't understand this reasoning at all. Shouldn't he condemn the killing even if his critism is selective? I hate the false equivalence you lot parade on this forum. Do you guys think before you talk at all? |
This is just a political stunt as he has shown to be a weak leader - easily influenced by religious fanatics. He wrote that statement because SW is key to his ambition. |
For that price it needs to be oil painted |
Actually word fail me, so I'll pass on this one. |
Any chinese company shut down should never be allowed to reopen again. No Nigerian will get away with this in China |
I think it's better Nigeria get used to this virus and reopen the economy as there are no proper testing facilities, contact tracing and health care to manage this crisis. Nigeria has a young demographic as the majority anyways so the impact will be less than European countries |
The last pic looks like a hatch tz. |
This looks tacky with the funky lights |
A lot of Nigerian politician are so incompetent |
commodore007:Very aptly put, but I fear the window of change is becoming too narrow - Partly down to brain drain couple with the never ending assualt on intellectualism in Africa. I fear for the next generation in African and even more so for Blacks all over the world, as we'll keep being looked down on as long as Africa remains backward. Link and effect and all that. |
This theory does not hold up and it'll be even more damning if it's true. |
NaMeAboki:Giving the contract to Siemens to manage both network will be a critical mistake in the long term. The best solution is for Nigerian government to deregulate the power sector and encourage private independent connection providers. US is slightly different but i know UK practices one of the most diversified network systems in the world. In UK, National grid owns and manages the transmission lines while DNOs like UKPN, WPD, SSE, NPG etc. manages the distribution lines. Below them you have IDNO for downstream of distribution network and then BNO for internal building works. The main advantage of this is a security of supplies as there are more competition and diversified network. In other words, if one network of one company fails other networks are able to provide alternative supplies. |
TheEffective:I think you'll find most of the old members are doing well for themselves and are in some cases richer than Seun. Say no more. |
bigstan11787:How is this a rhetorical question? |
free2ryhme:The withstand pressure of a typical submarine is a lot higher than what is required to cause what you just said. Even more so for the said location. |
Not wishing to be the eternal pessimist, I feel that in the terms of the original post, nothing concrete can be or will be achieved. The history of the human race shows that we have always, not just in the 21st Century, been better at destroying our world about us than sustaining it. Yes the human mind and heart is capable of wonderful things, beauty, emotion, art, music, literature, architecture, technological innovation. But the dark side of human nature always seems to prevail in the long run. A beautiful artifact that took decades to complete can be destroyed in a microsecond - and as we are seeing, often is. Other things of beauty are ephemeral with no lasting effect. Humans are avaricious, they consume and store more than they need. In terms of feeding themselves, they slaughter 3,000 animals every second: sentient beings that share this planet with us. We waste and pollute the earth, and deplete its water reserves in order to spend 40 kilos of protein to create 1 kilo of beef. And do we care, deep down? Yes we wail and gnash our teeth about this, and all the other issues that we perhaps genuinely hold dear: the environment, population growth, poverty, refugees, ethnic and racial hatred. What do we REALLY do about it? The Nations that promised money to the United Nations to care for refugees, did not deliver on their pledges. So we see all the evils of conflict, poverty and mass migration arriving on our comfortable Western doorsteps, and once again we wail and gnash our teeth. But pretty soon we return to such much more vital concerns such as how big a TV screen we want to buy with borrowed money, or the latest mobile phone or other gadget. I was born and raised a capitalist, and I suppose I still am. But the search for eternal economic growth: growth that MUST exceed population growth, otherwise we are going backwards, whatever that means, growth that must fuel financial and commodity exchanges, so that a few of the world's population can retire gracefully on index-linked pensions while deprived people in other parts of the world work as slaves to make that happen - this I now realise is not the capitalism I signed up for. It is a capitalism that is ripping humanity apart. And then there is the fatal flaw in the human gene: greed, envy, hostility. Instead of sharing resources, we go to war in one form or another to grab more than we need, leaving the other guy with nothing. We entrust our futures to professional politicians out of apathy: they limit our democratic choices to the point when we no longer see the point in voting. If, of course we live in a country that has a meaningful voting system. And the politicians rule us, they govern us, they steal the money from our pockets, they take us to war, our sons die for them or for some jingoistic call to patriotism broadcast by venal and corrupt leaders. The world of humans is stifling in corruption: petty corruption to the corruption that goes to the very top. And it is not only in the brutal world of African or Middle Eastern dictators. Recent months and years have shown that we in the Western world are just as bad. Some have said that it only takes one good person to change the world. I say the opposite: it only takes 1 evil person to dominate and subdue 1,000 - no, millions - of good people. In the "civilised" world this is achieved through the narcotic of apathy and the stimulation of consumerist greed. Elsewhere it is achieved with bombs and bullets and gas and torture chamber. In which we are complicit, wittingly or unwittingly. It is telling that right now, we are talking of colonising other planets. Perhaps because we know deep down that this one is fVcked? |
This has Carlos slim saga written all over it |
It does look like a colossal mess. A referendum organised under dubious pretences, that will be boycotted by masses of the people, and held under an already hostile environment could never be regarded as democratically legitimate. The whole thing would have been pointless, and the Spanish government could go on ignoring it, which probably isn't sustainable in the long run, but they could have done that anyway. Going in with massively heavy handed police tactics to stop a pointless vote is a moronic tactic, and isn't going to help anything. |
That is a decent ride. 911 is a better value still. |
claremont:That picture of Jeremy is really misleading, at least the intention was. |
Rick9:Who ever was advising him surely didn't have his best interest at heart. Really stupid move beyond believe. Seems his ego was his biggest enemy. If you are going to campaign for secession it has to be within the law or at the very least according to international law. |
My biggest worry above all for Nigerians is that the executive branch seems pretty weak to stand up to the President. Presidents generally are power hungry and they will always overreach their executive power, which is why you need other branch of power to be able to stand up to president. Second and most important worry has to be Nigerians (nairaland) attitudes to this abuse of power. Those who sacrifice freedom for security deserves neither and it would always backfire in the long run. Where will it end? |
chivic:This b.s sounds like a comment from a defeated soul. Shouldn't this be the normal response? |
Can we please populate this thread with pictures and updates? This thread is too quiet for my liking. |
