Question- Why would NGX need to use a scanner?, a softcopy should have been sent, as it is known to all parties that the document is to be uploaded, the hard copy should only be complimentary, not even the main document. I put this entirely on the company.
There is also one other company that uses “camscannner”; then I ask myself, with a valuation of ‘x’ billion and revenue in millions/ billions, you can’t ensure to use a proper scanner. That to me is enough indication of the quality of management, and they certainly do not deserve my money.
I am not trying to exonerate the company or NGX. My point is that the issue can be fixed easily without much damage

I hate how Nigerians roll over so easily, always managing. No it should never have made it to the public. This is not some ministry (which doesnt make it better) this is a multibillion company we own , so i have every right to be pissed
I agree with you.
Yes, you have the right to be pissed about blurred images on a pdf document, no doubt.
But what if the error is from the NGX scanning machine?
As for Nigeria, if you hate how we always manage, E get why; no be today.

Can you read the nonsense? Ngx should start giving fines to companies who post results you cant read . 1 million naira per day the rubbish stays up LOL. Absolute disgrace, and we want oyibos to come
This should not be a big issue.
The fault might be from the scanning machine that was used to scan/upload the result, either at the company or NGX and can be rectified/reloaded easily.

the main thing is the dividends for shareholders......I don't really trust wale at all,he has all the odds in his favor under this administration and his company can't pay dividends. It seems I will just stick to bank stocks and few companies with good dividend history.
Which company in Oando's situation would pay dividends if the CEO and management are truly sincere and working to put the company on sound footing and not just trying to window-dress and deceive the shareholders? Do you expect dividends when equity and shareholders fund are in the negative?
The share redistribution is also a form of ''dividend'' and it is even (in a way) better than the normal dividend because you can sell the shares for cash and you would not need to pay 10% WHT on it.

This is how it's worded in the NTA 2025:

"Provided that gains accruing to a person on disposal of shares in any Nigerian company shall not be chargeable gains where the

(i) disposal proceeds, in aggregate, is less than 150,000,000 and the chargeable gain does not exceed 10,000,000 in any 12 consecutive months,"

It means the ONLY way to escape tax is that the Sales Proceeds must be less than #150M AND the Net Gain must be #10M or less.

BOTH of these conditions must be present if you want to AVOID the CGT.

If you meet ONLY one of the 2, then you'll be TAXED.

Another way to illustrate this is:

Above #150M sales proceeds but below #10M gain = TAX.

Below #150M SP but above #10M gain = TAX.

Above #150M SP and above #10M gain = TAX.

Below #150M SP AND below #10M gain = NO TAX.

Hope it's clearer now.
They just want to destroy the capital market.
This happens when someone is just desperate to dip hands into investors' portfolios and extort money from them by all means because he is looking for more revenue even though there is no accountability for other previous revenue-generating measures and policies implemented.

Investors would leave the capital market for the bond and money markets, and invariably lead to a fall in interest rates.

This is HORRIBLY wrong!

First of all, there is NO 10% CGT rate. Capital Gains will now be taxed using the Personal Income Tax rates for individuals and CIT rates for companies.

Secondly, the tax is applicable on ALL of chargeable gains.

If you sold for a Net Gain of #11M and withdraw it, the WHOLE #11M (not just the additional#1M) will be taxed at the PIT rates NOT 10%.

The exemption threshold in the NTA 2025 is NOT an allowance or a deduction.

It's just to answer ONE question:

Has this individual made enough transactions to TRIGGER a taxable event?

If the answer is YES, everything will be TAXED!

In fact, if you made a transaction that resulted in a Net Gain of #11M and you only withdraw about #2M to your bank account, the part you withdrew will be TAXED.

Oyedele and Tinubu are NOT playing.
They have really gone nuts

Makanjuola89:
Many of you don't understand this CGT thing. For individuals like you, your CGT will only be 10% on your gain over a period of 12 month. In addition, you will only pay CGT if you make more than 10 million Naira profit in that 12 month period. Let's say you make 10 million profit, you won't pay any CGT. If you make a profit of say 11 million, your CGT will now be 10% of 1 million (i.e. 11 million minus 10 million).
Are you sure the CGT is 10% for individuals? I understand it is going to be based on the new tax rates/table for PAYE, which should be about 23%
In any case, I want to cash out for some major project so mere 10% is even too much for me to give the govt, not to talk about 20% or 30%

Real abrakadabra.
The cooking is very very visible.
Oando has not been generating profits from her core operations for a very very long time. The operating cash flow.
SO trying to deceive people with a padded income statement won't fly.
Companies like Oando, you need to discard the EPS or financial statement and focus more on their cashflow statement to uncover their motives.
Some people are always analyzing Oando in reverse gear!
Oando took huge loans so they are paying huge finance costs. Some people seem okay to see that. Oando has deployed the loans to earn some finance income but same people are raising issues about that.
We all know Oando has announced plans to raise capital. What objective, forward-looking analysts should analyze is what would happen if they successfully raise the required capital and then eliminate or significantly reduce the huge finance costs. But they can still continue earning good finance income after the capital raise.
For me, profit is profit oo. I don't mind if Oando magically turns into a "trading company", "finance house" or "bank" and consistently pays me sustainable good returns or dividend.
People invest because of returns and rewards, not necessarily because they have special love for the class of business or sector the company falls in.

Okay. That is clear. Thanks.

Now,
I now understand that if I sell before Jan 2026, I will not pay any CGT. Pls confirm.

This will help decide what to do. I can choose to liquidate my portfolio 100% before 01/01/2026 and then re-enter at the current price or in Jan 2026 so that we can start at the same level from 2026.

I hope I am not doing anything wrong with this approach?
Yes, if you sell before 01-Jan-2026, you would not pay any CGT.
You can also re-enter in Jan2026 and then use that as your starting point to minimize the CGT (this is a clever strategy but may involve paying significant commission for those with huge portfolios).

However, some people are saying that the CGT law will not be implemented. I hope so too, because there was a similar 10% CGT in Finance Act 2021 which was never implemented. But that was under Buhari who did not remove subsidies on petrol, currency, electricity, school fees, etc. You know what obtains today so your guess is as good as mine; let me stop here grin

PMForce:
Israeli Forces Used Elderly Palestinians as Human Shields Before Executing Them in Gaza

Two elderly Palestinians, Haj Nadi Marouf and Haj Ali Marouf, were found executed in northern Gaza after being used as human shields by Israeli soldiers. According to local reports, troops from the 92nd Battalion of the Kfir Brigade detained the two men in Beit Lahia, forcing them to walk ahead of the soldiers as they cleared buildings. Both men were unarmed and frail, posing no threat. Witnesses say they were last seen under Israeli custody before their bodies were discovered days later, each killed with bullets to the head.

The case has drawn widespread outrage, symbolising the escalating brutality that civilians face in Gaza. Using civilians as human shields is a clear violation of international law, yet such reports have become disturbingly common amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign. The deaths of Nadi and Ali Marouf, elderly men who should have been protected, have come to represent the deep moral decay of Israeli society, where even the most vulnerable are stripped of their humanity.
Lies. Lies. Lies.
How did ''slitting throats'' turn into ''killed with bullets''
The picture of Israeli soldiers holding long knives is a big lie! Soldiers with machine guns would not waste time using knives to slit someone's throat because the blood stains and finger prints can easily expose them.

Thanks.

Quick question. If it is starting in 2026, do you know which price will be used as benchmark?

E.g. If my OandO shares were bought in 2021 and they are on 700% appreciation to date, will they calculate the CGT on the 700% appreciation? Will the calculation starts with the price on 01/01/2026 as benchmark?
I will like to know.

If they won't, then it is better for one to sell everything to zerorise the gains of many years back.

This is very important, I will appreciate if all the professors in the house can assist in clarifying this.
According to what the tax man (Taiwo Oyedele) said, they would use the price at which you bought the shares in the past as the ''cost price''.
So even if you bought Oando in year 2000 at N1, they will deduct the N1 from the selling price (e.g. N50 in 2026)and then calculate 30% on the gain of N49. Hence, they have ignored inflation, currency purchasing parity. devaluation etc
He said even though it sounds punitive and unfair, that is what the law says, and if the law is to be implemented, that is how it would be done.

Which one fit do 100%?
That would depend on your preferred investment horizon or time span.
For me, the ones struggling right now can easily do 100% in the long term (Q2 2026) if one is able to endure and wait i.e. Access and Oando.
But the risks are higher.

Others can also do 50% in the short term.
