Payunsin:Kudos to you. Wish you more success in the business. Don't forget your guys this Xmas oo! ![]() |
Agbalowomeri: ![]() Lol Wetin we go do? To invest in NGX means we ''must'' have some dose of trust for our CEO, anyhow, anyhow. |
KarlTom:I saw it shortly before the last AG but I could not attend. He has virtually dribbled the investors. Probably partly why the AGM was held online The original clause was something like to distribute the shares and/or their monetary value to shareholders. I guess he is now interpreting the monetary value as ''some of''. My fear is that they may decide to allow the new, incoming investors (after the capital raise) to take part in the share redistribution, thereby diluting the ration of the pre-existing shareholders. |
KarlTom:Lol ![]() KarlTom!, KarlTom!!, KarlTom!!!, How many times did I call you? ![]() You are looking for trouble ooooo |
Ovamboland:I did not campaign to become president! I did not say ''Emi L'okan'' but these are some common sense approach to adopt: 1. could have avoided making such reckless statement like ''subsidy is gone whether you like it or not'' at the inauguration ground when there was no cabinet, no ministers, no policy, no nothing. this comment dislocated economic activity in the nation 2. set up cabinet first and committee to consult with industry players, stakeholders and Nigerians on how to implement the policy and address its effects. 3. could have waited few months and possibly assisted Dangote to complete the refinery faster. Negotiate, sell crude to him in exchange for refined products at agreed naira prices., subject to periodic adjustments. 4. approach the NASS for possible supplementary budget to address possible temporary shortfalls in the budget. (to avoid the nation being thrown into confusion with fuel queues, hunger, demonstrations, riots etc. and for companies to prepare and plan ahead) 5. gradual, piecemeal devaluation of the currency, especially after we might have stopped importing refined products, with Dangote supplying and meeting our local needs. 6. adopt a managed exchange rate system, instead of complete floatation (it never favours an import-dependent, developing country) 7. sell gas to electricity generating companies in Naira, (instead of selling in USD) because Nigerian citizens pay for electricity consumed in naira. Selling gas to the Gencos in USD is a sure way to kill them especially when you devalue your currency from about N500 to N1,500 to the USD. 8. adopt prudent measures in govt., cut down wasteful expenditures. show leadership by example. Nigerian president can travel by commercial flight if the people are suffering. Avoid traveling to international conferences with 400 delegates etc. 9. Prioritize and complete existing viable projects (e.g. roads) instead of rushing to award questionable, inflated projects to cronies with little or no transparency. 10. do not share excess crude account in raw cash to state govts (it causes inflation). ask each state to indicate a key infrastructure project in their state and draw up plans to finance these projects using proceeds in the account (or part thereof) under the supervision of supra -national bodies e.g. world bank, AfDB etc. ..............etc etc etc |
KarlTom:I think Alhaji is more Nigeria-centric. His focus is to enrich and develop his businesses focusing on Nigeria, and to some extent, Africa. Again, Alhaji is already exporting the refined products to earn dollars. Hence, the dollar outstripping Naira will be to his benefit. When converted to naira, it yields more revenue and potential profits to be shared amongst shareholders when listed on NGX. If he lists on LSE, he would have to pay dividends etc. in GBP or EUR, which does not give the same advantage because those currencies are equally strong or relatively stronger than the USD. |
emmanuelewumi:I am getting scared by the way you make definite statements about people's businesses and investments. I need to be careful, I may be discussing with a clairvoyant being! You fit be God ooo, walahi |
pluto09:SLS has always said the subsidy was not sustainable, But he also recently described the govt (CBN and Finance Ministry) as being at a loss and confused on what to do to fix the economy. That to me, is cluelessness. His recent remarks was more of a diplomatic stunt to mellow tension in order not to appear as being too critical of the govt and soften grounds because of the current crisis and battle for the Emir of Kano with Ado Bayero. |
KarlTom:I think Atedo is too experienced and too informed to convert his forex to Naira The bolded above means Atedo is not converting his forex to Naira. He would not sell his forex because he knows the dollar will outstrip the naira once again in the near future |
KarlTom:Lol Gold? Japaul Gold or real Gold? ![]() CGT is my/NGX problem from now. Na ''alakowe'' people dey follow Gold ooo |
emmanuelewumi:That is to say that people who may criticize the govt can be doing very WELL in business and investments but they want the govt to address the larger problems of society. I think Atedo is too experienced and too informed to convert his forex to Naira. Such a person would have well diversified investments such that the naira denominated components (e.g. dividends from Stanbic IBTC) alone would be more than enough to cater for his needs |
emmanuelewumi:Lol. ![]() How do you know that? How many people do you know refused/failed to go far in business and investment because they blame govt? Some people who criticize govt. (not necessarily this current govt.) have businesses and investments worth hundreds of millions and billions of naira. Yesterday, I watched Peterside Atedo on Channels criticizing some govt. policies. You mean he would not go far in business and investment? What about Gani Fawehinmi before he died? What about Sanusi Lamido.? I fear you ooo. |
emmanuelewumi:Lol ![]() You are right. But do you know the deliberate policies that the Chines govt implements to support its citizens even in foreign countries? Are you aware these Chinese entrepreneurs get credit and loans at ridiculously cheap interest rates from their banks in China? Nigerians can also do better if we get support from govt. But I agree that we need to put in more efforts generally speaking. |
emmanuelewumi:Says who? My brother, people are trying. Remember, life and opportunity are in stages and no one knows it all. The limit of someone's ''opportunities'' may be the beginning of another one's opportunities. The mango seller, groundnut seller, bus conductor, the pure water hawker etc. are all taking advantage of ''opportunities'' in the economy. Let us remember that fingers are not equal! The NGX is just an opportunity for a few learned, informed, fortunate ones |
emmanuelewumi:Perfect! But it would be delusional for me to just ascribe such credit to just a govt. whose policies have made me and others ''poorer'' in real terms. |
emmanuelewumi:The Bottom line is: he made huge gain in the NGX. Anybody can be fortunate to make big money in the capital market irrespective of which govt is in power, even without any serious govt. policies or reforms. Then answer this: what is the number and percentage of people who have made huge gains in the NGX compared to people who are now suffering and pushed into poverty since this govt came to power?. I can only praise a govt based on the bigger picture, not the micro picture. |
Payunsin:Refer to my earlier post: We all ''appreciate'' the NGX ''performance'' that is why we are here. It is not this govt's doing per se.. When there is massive inflation in the economy, the prices of goods and services rise, including prices of stocks in the exchanges. Those who sell their shares at the time may think they have made ''huge profits'' in nominal terms but in reality, less gains when such profits are indexed against inflation, purchasing power parity etc. For instance a N200m gain in early 2023 is worth less than N120m gain in 2025, in real terms; that is my point. |
perfectgen:Okay, I don't want to use the dollar any longer. Now I want to use the purchasing power parity in naira terms. Prices of goods and services have tripled between May 2023 and now. You can use the cost of cars, building materials, land, houses etc. as a guide. The N250m naira today would not be to buy what N150m would buy pre 2023! What about that? |
Payunsin:The macro economic performance of this govt is poor and bad. The performance of the NGX pales into insignificance when compared to the larger economy. There are less than 4million people in the NGX, compared to 220million population i.e. 1.6% |
guyzgirl:Yes of course. I just hope the market does not collapse eventually because of the greed of this govt. |
motymop:What are the loopholes? We want to know. Have you been paying capital gain tax of 30% on your gains in the capital market anywhere in the world before? Nobody is attacking Taiwo Oyedele. He volunteered to do a dirty job for the govt and there will be backlashes naturally |
Payunsin:My brother, congrats for what you have achieved. And I wish you more success and more gains in the NGX. But let's stop being myopic in how we analyze public economic matters. The fact that you have made money under this govt does not mean majority of people or the masses are doing well under this govt. There are people who have made more than you have made, yet they are objective to acknowledge that majority are suffering under the policies of this govt. Many people who had money have witnessed the value of their money eroded badly because of policies of this govt. The N250m is worth about $175k today; but it was worth about $500,000 before the govt took over in 2023!. Your analogy is just like someone saying that Abacha's govt was generally very good because he made money or got contracts under the regime |
Most of the so-called ''reforms'' (sic) that this govt has implemented are about getting more revenue, even though the additional revenue is being (or would be) looted and squandered on meaningless ventures: i. getting more naira revenue to share from floating the naira ii. when Banks reported forex gain, they forcefully took 70% of the gain for no work done by govt. iv. removing fuel subsidy v. NNPC imposing some dubious ''markup'' on ex-factory price of petrol sold by Dangote refinery, before public outcry made them to leave DR alone vi. increasing the price/removing subsidy on electricity tariff vii. introducing and increasing tuition fee in universities and tertiary institutions viii. increasing CGT in NGX to 30% (from initial 10%). ix. attempt to increase VAT to 15% before it was blocked by NASS etc. x. shamelessly, they said they would tax ''Oloshos'' (prostitutes) if they had their way! Incredible! xi. FIRS introduced e-invoicing, mandating companies to integrate their ERP with FIRS platform so they can monitor revenues for VAT/tax collection; the cost will be borne solely by the companies while the govt that will benefit is not paying anything. |

Mirasteel:Funny lies. Lands don't exist in the air, they exist in towns. Mention the names of the towns in which land were stolen. Is that too difficult for you? |
cantiride2:The person that laboured to turn Oando into a major upstream company to leave now that his effort is about to yield results and his uncle is president with more prospects in the horizon!? Fear God ooo. Who would talk to convince his uncle if the company needs some help from govt? |
Fore811002:History of the land did not start in 1947. Is that difficult for you to understand? When you are ready to understand that basic fact, then you can make some good progress in the matter. |
Fore811002:What you have written clearly shows the Jews and Israelites (modern spelling Israelis) are the original owners of the land. The issue here is who owns the LAND of Israel which was there thousands of years ago along with other lands of Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria which all became nation State. That same land of Israel is the nation of Israel, just as the other lands became countries. The Israelis and Jews are laying claim to their ancestral land which was there long before the Romans and British empires came, not the fraudulent partitioning of their land to appease some Arabs who have migrated to live on some part of the land .In any case, only Egypt, Lebanono, Jordan and Syria are the other sovereign neighbours of Israel who can lay claim to any land in that region. Not a fictitious "Palestine" The Israelis (formerly spelt Israelites) are claiming their ancestral land and not a name or map drawn by foreigners. The same way Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria maintained their ancestral land. Do you expect them to relinquish their ancestry and heritage because some Roman enemies renamed the place "Palestine"? |
Raider76:The govt attempted to sell NNPC stakes in some oil blocs to Oando and other local companies but industry players like PENGASSAN etc. kicked against it. That was a bad move as it would have created huge problems for Oando's reputation. The this govt may still find a way to give them new oil blocs which would be less controversial. But Oando can do well if they are able to cut costs considerably and convert significant amount of loans into equity, as planned. |
Her smooth lips is the deal! But what is wrong with ladies always fixing these long artificial nails? Can be disgusting and a turn off! |
PMForce:Which Jews were shipped from where? Do you know or remember how the Jews got to Europe? The Jews had lived in the land for more than2000 years before they were displaced by the Roman Empire which made them run to exile in Europe and returned back after they were persecuted and killed in the holocaust. Or do you think there was no single Jews in the land of Israel when some of their citizens went on exile to Europe and different parts of the world? There were Jews on the land but they became the minority in population because many Arabs from neigbhouring countries have migrated to take their lands and even converted their Temples and Synagogues to Mosques. What would you say if many of the people from Plateau and Benue who ran away from their towns because of the Fulani attacks and killings decided to come back in the future? Would you say they have no right to comeback to the land of their forefathers just because some of them travelled outside the country? All Jews have their ancestral roots in Israel, their ancestral home and historical heritage. The land belongs to the Jews, right from history and the names of the towns and cities are all in Hebrew, a very clear evidence. But the Arabs/Palestinians are now trying to change the names to Arabic names in order to distort history and deceive the world. How can Jerusalem become ''Al Quds''? Does it make sense to you? |
